  • Java ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream local resource

    - by Dajgoro Labinac
    Before using lwjgl, i used the Graphic method, and there i displayed imageicons, and i had the picture file located in the resources. I used: ImageIcon tcard = new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("RCA.png")); to load the image. Now when i load textures in lwjgl, i have to use absolute paths to locate the file: tcard = TextureLoader.getTexture("PNG", ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream("C:/RCA.png")); I tried googling, but i didn't find anything helpful... How can i load the image from the local resources like in the first example?

  • ArrayList of Entites Random Movement

    - by opiop65
    I have an arraylist of entites that I want to move randomly. No matter what I do, they won't move. Here is my female class: import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Image; import java.awt.Rectangle; import java.util.Random; import javax.swing.ImageIcon; public class Female extends Entity { static int femaleX = 0; static int femaleY = 0; double walkSpeed = .1f; Random rand = new Random(); int random; int dir; Player player; public Female(int posX, int posY) { super(posX, posY); } public void update() { posX += femaleX; posY += femaleY; } public void draw(Graphics2D g2d) { g2d.drawImage(getFemaleImg(), posX, posY, null); if (Player.showBounds == true) { g2d.draw(getBounds()); } } public Image getFemaleImg() { ImageIcon ic = new ImageIcon("res/female.png"); return ic.getImage(); } public Rectangle getBounds() { return new Rectangle(posX, posY, getFemaleImg().getHeight(null), getFemaleImg().getWidth(null)); } public void moveFemale() { random = rand.nextInt(3); System.out.println(random); if (random == 0) { dir = 0; posX -= (int) walkSpeed; } } } And here is how I update the female class in the main class: public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { player.update(); for(int i = 0; i < females.size(); i++){ Female tempFemale = females.get(i); tempFemale.update(); } repaint(); } If I do something like this(in the female update method): public void update() { posX += femaleX; posY += femaleY; posX -= walkSpeed; } The characters move with no problem. Why is this?

  • Does anyone know how to layout a JToolBar that does't move or re-size any components placed in it?

    - by S1.Mac
    Can anyone help with this problem i'm trying to create a JToolBar and I want all its components to be fixed in size and position. I'v tried a few different layout managers but they all center and/or re-size the components when the frame its in is re-sized. here is an example using GridbagLayout, I have also used the default layout manager using the toolbar.add( component ) method but the result is the same : ' import java.awt.BorderLayout; import java.awt.Component; import java.awt.Dimension; import java.awt.GridBagConstraints; import java.awt.GridBagLayout; import javax.swing.*; public class ToolBarTest extends JFrame { private JToolBar toolbar; private JPanel mainPanel; private JPanel toolBarPanel; private JButton aButton; private JCheckBox aCheckBox; private JList aList; private Box toolbarBox; private GridBagConstraints toolbarConstraints; private GridBagLayout toolbarLayout; private JLabel shapeLabel; private JComboBox<ImageIcon> shapeChooser; private JLabel colorLabel; private JComboBox colorChooser; private String colorNames[] = { "Black" , "Blue", "Cyan", "Dark Gray", "Gray", "Green", "Light Gray", "Magenta", "Orange", "Pink", "Red", "White", "Yellow", "Custom" }; private String shapeNames[] = { "Line", "Oval", "Rectangle", "3D Rectangle","Paint Brush", "Rounded Rectangle" }; public ToolBarTest() { setLayout( new BorderLayout() ); setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE ); setSize( 500, 500 ); add( createToolBar(), BorderLayout.PAGE_START ); setVisible( true ); } public void addToToolbar( Component component, int row, int column ) { toolbarConstraints.gridx = column; toolbarConstraints.gridy = row; toolbarConstraints.anchor = GridBagConstraints.WEST; toolbarConstraints.fill = GridBagConstraints.NONE; toolbarConstraints.weightx = 0; toolbarConstraints.weighty = 0; toolbarConstraints.gridwidth = 1; toolbarConstraints.gridheight = 1; toolbarLayout.setConstraints( component, toolbarConstraints ); toolbar.add( component ); }// end addToToolbar public final JToolBar createToolBar() { toolbarLayout = new GridBagLayout(); toolbarConstraints = new GridBagConstraints(); // create the tool bar which holds the items to draw toolbar = new JToolBar(); toolbar.setBorderPainted(true); toolbar.setLayout( toolbarLayout ); toolbar.setFloatable( true ); shapeLabel = new JLabel( "Shapes: " ); addToToolbar( shapeLabel, 0, 1 ); String iconNames[] = { "PaintImages/Line.jpg", "PaintImages/Oval.jpg", "PaintImages/Rect.jpg", "PaintImages/3DRect.jpg","PaintImages/PaintBrush.jpg", "PaintImages/RoundRect.jpg"}; ImageIcon shapeIcons[] = new ImageIcon[ shapeNames.length ]; // create image icons for( int shapeButton = 0; shapeButton < shapeNames.length; shapeButton++ ) { shapeIcons[ shapeButton ] = new ImageIcon( iconNames[ shapeButton ] ); }// end for shapeChooser = new JComboBox< ImageIcon >( shapeIcons ); shapeChooser.setSize( new Dimension( 50, 20 )); shapeChooser.setPrototypeDisplayValue( shapeIcons[ 0 ] ); shapeChooser.setSelectedIndex( 0 ); addToToolbar( shapeChooser, 0, 2 ); colorLabel = new JLabel( "Colors: " ); addToToolbar( colorLabel, 0, 3 ); colorChooser = new JComboBox( colorNames ); addToToolbar( colorChooser, 0, 4 ); return toolbar; }// end createToolBar public static void main( String args[] ) { new ToolBarTest(); }// end main }// end class ToolBarTest'

  • How can I put an image in my form?

    - by Santeron
    Hey guys, I'm having a problem. I want to put an image inside a form in Java and I don't know if I'm using a proper technique (found it somewhere in a web page). private void iconSelect() { String iconString = ""; if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 0) { iconString = "LP_"; } else if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 1) { iconString = "HP_"; } else if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 2) { iconString = "BP_"; } else if (typeCombobox.getSelectedIndex() == 3) { iconString = "BS_"; } if (RB_Gain_Clean.isSelected()) { iconString = iconString + "Clean"; } else if (RB_Gain_dB.isSelected()) { iconString = iconString + "dB"; } ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon("images/" + iconString + ".jpg"); Image img = icon.getImage(); if (iconGraphLabel.getWidth() > 0 && iconGraphLabel.getHeight() > 0) { img = img.getScaledInstance(iconGraphLabel.getWidth(), iconGraphLabel.getHeight(), java.awt.Image.SCALE_SMOOTH); } icon = new ImageIcon(img); iconGraphLabel.setIcon(icon); } So it actually shows the image and it is resizing but when I resize my form and then make it smaller again, the label doesn't seem to follow the resizing so it stays bigger than the window. Also, since I'm not very familiar with java's graphics, can anyone tell me how can I control a window resizing event so I redraw the picture? Right now the method is triggered by the combobox and the radiobuttons shown in the code. Thanks in advance!

  • More than one JPanel in a Frame / having a brackground Image and another Layer with Components on the top

    - by user1905203
    I've got a JFrame with a JPanel in which there is a JLabel with an ImageIcon(). Everything's working perfectly, problem is i now want to add another JPanel with all the other stuff like buttons and so on to the JFrame. But it still shows the background Image on top and nothing with the second JPanel. Can someone help me? Here is an extract of my code: JFrame window = new JFrame("Http Download"); /* * Background Section */ JPanel panel1 = new JPanel(); JLabel lbl1 = new JLabel(); /* * Component Section */ JPanel panel2 = new JPanel(); JLabel lbl2 = new JLabel(); /* * Dimension Section */ Dimension windowSize = new Dimension(800, 600); Dimension screen = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize(); public HTTPDownloadGUI() { window.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); panel1.setLayout(null); panel1.setSize(windowSize); panel1.setOpaque(false); panel2.setLayout(null); panel2.setSize(windowSize); panel2.setOpaque(false); lbl1.setSize(windowSize); lbl1.setLocation(0, 0); lbl1.setIcon(new ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("bg1.png"))); panel1.add(lbl1); lbl2.setBounds(0, 0, 100, 100); //lbl2.setIcon(new ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("bg2.png"))); lbl2.setBackground(Color.GREEN); panel2.add(lbl2); panel1.add(panel2); window.add(panel1); int X = (screen.width / 2) - (windowSize.width / 2); int Y = (screen.height / 2) - (windowSize.height / 2); window.setBounds(X,Y , windowSize.width, windowSize.height); window.setVisible(true); }

  • How can I resize a set of sprite images?

    - by Tyler J Fisher
    Hey StackExchange GameDev community, I'm attempting to resize series of sprites upon instantiation of the class they're located in. I've attempted to use the following code to resize the images, however my attempts have been unsuccessful. I have been unable to write an implementation that is even compilable, so no error codes yet. wLeft.getScaledInstance(wLeft.getWidth()*2, wLeft.getHeight()*2, Image.SCALE_FAST); I've heard that Graphics2D is the best option. Any suggestions? I think I'm probably best off loading the images into a Java project, resizing the images then outputting them to a new directory so as not to have to resize each sprite upon class instantiation. What do you think? Photoshopping each individual sprite is out of the question, unless I used a macro. Code: package game; //Import import java.awt.Image; import javax.swing.ImageIcon; public class Mario extends Human { Image wLeft = new ImageIcon("sprites\\mario\\wLeft.PNG").getImage(); //Constructor public Mario(){ super("Mario", 50); wLeft = wLeft.getScaledInstance(wLeft.getWidth()*2, wLeft.getHeight()*2, Image.SCALE_FAST); }

    Now, I know that this has been asked, but I need to know how to do this NOT on html or anything. Heres my code, not including all of the other java files. package rtype; import java.awt.Image; import java.awt.event.KeyEvent; import java.util.ArrayList; import javax.swing.ImageIcon; public class aa { private int xd; private int yd; private int dx; private int dy; private int x; private int y; private Image image; private ArrayList missiles; private final int CRAFT_SIZE = 70; public aa() { ImageIcon ii = new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("/aa.png")); image = ii.getImage(); missiles = new ArrayList(); x = 10; y = 10; xd = -14; yd = 140; } public void move() { if(y >=xd) y += dx; else if(y < xd) y += 1; if(y <=yd) y += dy; else if(y > yd) y += -1; } public int getX() { return x; } public int getY() { return y; } public Image getImage() { return image; } public ArrayList getMissiles() { return missiles; } public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) { int key = e.getKeyCode(); if (key == KeyEvent.VK_SPACE) { fire(); } if (key == KeyEvent.VK_UP) { dy = -1; } if (key == KeyEvent.VK_DOWN) { dy = 1; } if (key == KeyEvent.VK_RIGHT) { yd++; } if (key == KeyEvent.VK_LEFT) { yd--; } if (key == KeyEvent.VK_W) { xd++; } if (key == KeyEvent.VK_S) { xd--; } } public void fire() { try{ missiles.add(new Missle(x + CRAFT_SIZE, y + CRAFT_SIZE)); }catch(Exception e){} } public void keyReleased(KeyEvent e) { int key = e.getKeyCode(); if (key == KeyEvent.VK_UP) { dy = 0; } if (key == KeyEvent.VK_DOWN) { dy = 0; } } } So, at the method, fire(), I want to make it delay between shots.   • NullPointerException when accessing image files in a .jar file

    - by user548240
    Hi, I have pretty much tried everything but still have this same problem. I have the following setup: I have a images.jar containing a folder called 'images' in which there are multiple image files. I add images.jar to the java build path of the project in eclipse, and i've been trying to use the following code to access the individual images in the jar: URL url = this.getClass().getResource("images/a.png"); ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon (url); Unfortunately, the URL object is always NULL. I don't think this has anything to do with where I put images.jar file as it is added to the classpath in eclipse. I have also tried using the path '/images/a.png', but still the same problem. Any suggestion would be extremely welcome! Thanks.

  • A "Trig" Calculating Class

    - by Clinton Scott
    I have been trying to create a gui that calculates trigonometric functions based off of the user's input. I have had success in the GUI part, but my class that I wrote to hold information using inheritance seems to be messed up, because when I run it gives an error saying: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Uncompilable source code - constructor ArcTrigCalcCon in class TrigCalc.ArcTrigCalcCon cannot be applied to given types; required: double,double,double,double,double,double found: java.lang.Double,java.lang.Double,java.lang.Double reason: actual and formal argument lists differ in length at TrigCalc.TrigCalcGUI.(TrigCalcGUI.java:31) at TrigCalc.TrigCalcGUI.main(TrigCalcGUI.java:87) Java Result: 1 and says it is the object causing the problem. Below Will be my code. First I will put up my inheritance class with cosecant secant and cotangent and then my original class with the original 3 trig functions: { public ArcTrigCalcCon(double s, double cs, double t, double csc, double sc, double ct) { // Inherit from the Trig Calc class super(s, cs, t); cosecant = 1/s; secant = 1/cs; cotangent = 1/t; } public void setCsc(double csc) { cosecant = csc; } public void setSec(double sc) { secant = sc; } public void setCot(double ct) { cotangent = ct; } } Here is the first Trigonometric class: public class TrigCalcCon { public double sine; public double cosine; public double tangent; public TrigCalcCon(double s, double cs, double t) { sine = s; cosine = cs; tangent = t; } public void setSin(double s) { sine = s; } public void setCos(double cs) { cosine = cs; } public void setTan(double t) { tangent = t; } public void set(double s, double cs, double t) { sine = s; cosine = cs; tangent = t; } public double getSin() { return Math.sin(sine); } public double getCos() { return Math.cos(cosine); } public double getTan() { return Math.tan(tangent); } } and here is the demo class to run the gui: public class TrigCalcGUI extends JFrame implements ActionListener { // Instance Variables private String input; private Double s, cs, t, csc, sc, ct; private JPanel mainPanel, sinPanel, cosPanel, tanPanel, cscPanel, secPanel, cotPanel, buttonPanel, inputPanel, displayPanel; // Panel Display private JLabel sinLabel, cosLabel, tanLabel, secLabel, cscLabel, cotLabel, inputLabel; public TrigCalcGUI() { // title bar text. super("Trig Calculator"); // Corner exit button action. setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); // Create main panel to add each panel to mainPanel = new JPanel(); mainPanel.setLayout(new GridLayout(3,2)); displayPanel = new JPanel(); displayPanel.setLayout(new GridLayout(3,2)); // Assign Panel to each variable inputPanel = new JPanel(); sinPanel = new JPanel(); cosPanel = new JPanel(); tanPanel = new JPanel(); cscPanel = new JPanel(); secPanel = new JPanel(); cotPanel = new JPanel(); buttonPanel = new JPanel(); // Call each constructor buildInputPanel(); buildSinCosTanPanels(); displayPanel.add(cotPanel); // Add three content panes to GUI mainPanel.add(inputPanel, BorderLayout.NORTH); mainPanel.add(displayPanel, BorderLayout.CENTER); mainPanel.add(buttonPanel, BorderLayout.SOUTH); //add mainPanel this.add(mainPanel); // size of window to content this.pack(); // display window setVisible(true); } public static void main(String[] args) { new TrigCalcGUI(); } private void buildInputPanel() { inputLabel = new JLabel("Enter a Value: "); this might be simple enough as just inserting the right method but i cant seem to get it right. i have a simple program with two buttons. each one changes the picture above them. but anytime i click the buttons i get some odd awt event queue error. i think its because im trying to add something to a frame after its already been made. package icnon; import javax.imageio.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class FrameIconExample extends JFrame implements ActionListener { JLabel j; JPanel p, l, k; JButton picOne, picTwo; Container cPane; public FrameIconExample() { JButton picOne = new JButton("picOne"); JButton picTwo = new JButton("picTwo"); picOne.setName("picOne"); picTwo.setName("picTwo"); picOne.addActionListener(this); picTwo.addActionListener(this); JPanel p = new JPanel(new GridLayout(2, 1)); JPanel l = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); JPanel k = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); cPane = getContentPane(); j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon("../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg")); l.add(j); k.add(picOne); k.add(picTwo); p.add(l); p.add(k); add(p); } public static void main(String[] args) { FrameIconExample frame = new FrameIconExample(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setSize(new Dimension(300, 800)); frame.setTitle("Frame Icon Example"); // Display the form frame.setVisible(true); } @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { JButton temp = (JButton) e.getSource(); String src = "../meet/src/images/Majken Kruse portrait - john.jpg"; //System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); if(temp.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("picOne")) { src = "../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg"; System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); Icon img; j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(src)); l.add(j); System.out.println("1"); } if(temp.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("picTwo")) { src = "../icontest/images/Majken Kruse portrait - john.jpg"; System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); Icon img; j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(src)); l.add(j); System.out.println("2"); } } } its all just the one program so if you copy paste it into an editor you can see the stack trace. but the source of the image files wont be there. does anyone know how id do it? or where im goin wrong? stack trace: ../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg picOne Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException at icnon.FrameIconExample.actionPerformed(FrameIconExample.java:68) at javax.swing.AbstractButton.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.AbstractButton$Handler.actionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.setPressed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicButtonListener.mouseReleased(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.JComponent.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.retargetMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Window.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpOneEventForFilters(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForFilter(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForHierarchy(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source)

  • Sorting ArrayList - IndexOutOfBoundsException -Java

    I'm trying to sort an ArrayList with strings(PlayersNames) and imageIcons(PlayersIcons) based on the values i store in an other arrayList with integers(results). As you can see i get an indexOutOfBoundsException but i cant understand why. Maybe the earling of the morning makes me not to see plain things. • How to add an image dynamically at runtime in java

    - by Brandon
    I've been trying to load up an image dynamically in runtime for the longest time and have taken a look at other posts on this site and have yet to find exactly the thing that will work. I am trying to load an image while my GUI is running (making it in runtime) and have tried various things. Right now, I have found the easiest way to create an image is to use a JLabel and add an ImageIcon to it. This has worked, but when I go to load it after the GUI is running, it fails saying there is a "NullPointerException". Here is the code I have so far: p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("python C:\\FaceVACS\\roc.py " + "C:/FaceVACS/OutputCMC_" + target + ".txt " + "C:/FaceVACS/ROC_" + target + ".png"); Icon graph = new ImageIcon("C:\\FaceVACS\\OutputCMC_" + target + ".png"); roc_image.setIcon(graph); panel.add(roc_image); panel.revalidate(); gui.frame.pack(); I tried panel.validate(), panel.revalidate(), and I've also tried gui.getRootPane(), but I can't seem to find anything that will work. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks

  • Problem painting JLabel class to another JPanel class

    - by jjpotter
    I have created a class that extends JLabel to use as my object moving around a JPanel for a game. import javax.swing.*; public class Head extends JLabel { int xpos; int ypos; int xvel; int yvel; ImageIcon chickie = new ImageIcon("C:\\Users\\jjpotter.MSDOM1\\Pictures\\clavalle.jpg"); JLabel myLabel = new JLabel(chickie); public Head(int xpos, int ypos, int xvel, int yvel){ this.xpos = xpos; this.ypos = ypos; this.xvel = xvel; this.yvel = yvel; } public void draw(){ myLabel.setLocation(xpos, ypos); } public double getXpos() { return xpos; } public double getYpos() { return ypos; } public int getXvel() { return xvel; } public int getYvel() { return yvel; } public void setPos(int x, int y){ xpos = x; ypos = y; } } I am then trying to add it onto my JPanel. From here I will randomly have it increment its x and y coordinates to float it around the screen. I can not get it to paint itself onto the JPanel. I know there is a key concept I am missing here that involves painting components on different panels. Here is what I have in my GamePanel class import java.awt.Dimension; import java.util.Random; import javax.swing.*; public class GamePanel extends JPanel { Random myRand = new Random(); Head head = new Head(20,20,0,0); public GamePanel(){ this.setSize(new Dimension(640, 480)); this.add(head); } } Any suggestions on how to get this to add to the JPanel? Also, is this a good way to go about having the picture float around the screen randomly for a game?

  • Have something loaded only when JList item is visibile

    - by elvencode
    Hello, i'm implementing a Jlist populated with a lot of elements. Each element corresponds to a image so i'd like to show a resized preview of them inside each row of the list. I've implemented a custom ImageCellRenderer extending the Jlabel and on getListCellRendererComponent i create the thumbnail if there'snt any for that element. Each row corresponds to a Page class where i store the path of the image and the icon applied to the JLabel. Each Page object is put inside a DefaultListModel to populate the JList. The render code is something like this: public Component getListCellRendererComponent( JList list, Object value, int index, boolean isSelected, boolean cellHasFocus) { Page page = (Page) value; if (page.getImgIcon() == null) { System.out.println(String.format("Creating thumbnail of %s", page.getImgFilename())); ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon(page.getImgFilename()); int thumb_width = icon.getIconWidth() > icon.getIconHeight() ? 128 : ((icon.getIconWidth() * 128) / icon.getIconHeight()); int thumb_height = icon.getIconHeight() > icon.getIconWidth() ? 128 : ((icon.getIconHeight() * 128) / icon.getIconWidth()); icon.setImage(getScaledImage(icon.getImage(), thumb_width, thumb_height)); page.setImgIcon(icon); } setIcon(page.getImgIcon()); } I was thinking that only a certain item is visibile in the List the cell renderer is called but i'm seeing that all the thumnails are created when i add the Page object to the list model. I've tried to load the items and after set the model in the JList or set the model first and after starting appending the items but the results are the same. Is there any way to load the data only when necessary or do i need to create a custom control like a JScrollPanel with stacked items inside where i check myself the visibility of each elements? Thanks

  • How do I detect the colillison of components?

    - by Coupon22
    How do I detect the collision of components, specifically JLabels (or ImageIcons?)?I have tried this: add(test1); test1.setLocation(x, y); add(test2); test1.setLocation(x1, y1); validate(); if(intersects(test1, test2)) { ehealth-=50; } public boolean intersects(JLabel testa, JLabel testb) { boolean b3 = false; if(testa.contains(testb.getX(), testb.getY())) { b3 = true; } return b3; } When I run this, it does nothing! I used to use rectangle, but it didn't go well with me. I was thinking about an image with a border (using paint.net) and moving an imageicon, but I don't know how to get the x of an imageicon or detect collision. I don't know how to detect collision of a label or increase the location either. I have searched for collision detection with components/ImageIcons, but nothing has came up. I have also searched for getting the x of ImageIcons.

    i have a small problem, i don't know how to sort my jlist by status which is retrieved from database. i want sort by "online" and "offline", i mean online computers go first and then offline computers, i have this code now, it just makes the icon+text for the jlist Can you tell me how can i filter/sortby status? public void acx_pc(String query) { try { Statement st = con.createStatement(); ResultSet rs = st.executeQuery(query); String comb; Map<Object, Icon> icons = new HashMap<>(); ArrayList<String> pc_list = new ArrayList<>(); int i = 0; while (rs.next()) { //Getting info from DB String pc_name = rs.getString("nombre_pc"); String pc_ip = rs.getString("IP"); String status = rs.getString("estado"); //Setting text for the jList comb = pc_name + " - " + pc_ip; //Comparing Status switch (status) { case "online": //This is just for rendering an image+text to Jlist icons.put(comb, new ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("/Imagenes/com_on_30x30.png"))); break; case "offline": //This is just for rendering an image to Jlist icons.put(comb, new ImageIcon(getClass().getResource("/Imagenes/com_off_30x30.png"))); break; } //Adding info to ArrayList pc_list.add(i, comb); i++; } con.close(); // Setting the list/text on Jlist Home.computer_jlist.setListData(pc_list.toArray()); // create a cell renderer to add the appropriate icon Home.computer_jlist.setCellRenderer(new pc_cell_render(icons)); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Error aqui: " + e); } } I want to do something like (should automatically order) http://imageshack.us/a/img27/9018/2mx1.png and not: http://imageshack.us/a/img407/346/e9r.png

  • trouble running smooth animation in thread only when using key listener

    - by heysuse renard
    first time using a forum for coding help so sorry if i post this all wrong. i have more than a few classes i don't think screenManger or core holds the problem but i included them just incase. i got most of this code working through a set of tutorials. but a certain point started trying to do more on my own. i want to play the animation only when i'm moving my sprite. in my KeyTest class i am using threads to run the animation it used to work (poorly) but now not at all pluss it really gunks up my computer. i think it's because of the thread. im new to threads so i'm not to sure if i should even be using one in this situation or if its dangerous for my computer. the animation worked smoothly when i had the sprite bouce around the screen forever. the animation loop played with out stopping. i think the main problem is between the animationThread, Sprite, and keyTest classes, but itcould be more indepth. if someone could point me in the right direction for making the animation run smoothly when i push down a key and stop runing when i let off it would be greatly apriciated. i already looked at this Java a moving animation (sprite) obviously we were doing the same tutorial. but i feel my problem is slightly different. p.s. sorry for the typos. import java.awt.*;
