  • Connect devices plugged into Raspberry Pi ethernet to WiFi network

    I'm just starting out on a mission to learn more about networking and I've followed a tutorial (http://raspberrypihq.com/how-to-turn-a-raspberry-pi-into-a-wifi-router/) to turn my Raspberry Pi into a wifi router. That worked really well so I modified it slightly so that I can use a tethered iphone for the internet connection - I just switched all "eth0" references to "eth1" (the iphone interface) and added a script to set everything up when the phone is plugged in. This setup has freed up the Pi's ethernet port so I'd like to try and take this a step further and allow devices plugged into it to connect to the network. If possible, I'd like to try adding a switch so I can connect multiple devices. I've tried fiddling around with nat & iptables with no luck so my question is, how can I connect devices on eth0 to my wlan network?

  • windows phone application repeatedly opens while phone is plugged in

    I plugged my windows phone 8 phone into my Windows 8.1 computer for the first time. It asked what to do when a WP8 phone is plugged in. I chose "Open Windows Phone". All worked fine for about an hour. Now when I connect my phone, the Windows Phone application repeatedly opens. I can't even type in another window, as it continues to steal focus to "switch to" the Windows Phone application. Anyone have any ideas to fix this?

  • Electricity in VAIO laptop ports while plugged in

    I have VAIO E series (SVE) laptop. While charger plugged in, touching VGA/HDMI/USB port metal casing gives me burning sensation. So, i checked it with voltmeter and i found that while plugged in there is presences of DC +1.0 V. Same case with my friend's VAIO E Series (VPCEH). Service center says this is normal. But i do not believe them as it is not the case with Dell Inspiron. Please let me know if you are facing same problem with VAIO and is it hazardous to devices which i connect to these ports (like HDD, LED, etc)?

  • toshiba a200 laptop hangs/freezes when plugged in

    The subject says it all. It is the exact same problem as described here. I had asked a similar question before here. My system specs etc, everything is here. My problem is just that I cannot afford to get it fixed right now. I just need for the laptop to be kind of usable for 2-3 more months. It worked perfectly for 3 months or so in ubuntu recovery mode. Now it hangs/freezes every hour. I spend 8 hours a day on an average on my laptop. So i just want it to last at least that long. If the laptop is not plugged in in recovery mode / regular ubuntu mode, it freezes in 5 mins and the screen becomes all weird. With my windows 7 OS, it works perfectly on battery but hangs instantly as soon as it is plugged in. Also now, a high cpu usage doesn't help anymore. Any strategy or suggestions i could employ to extend the duration for which it doesn't freeze ?

Between the VGA port location and my hand size, I knock the cable out often. I am working on getting a docking station, but not sure when it would be ordered (work-related).   • Will not POST with a USB mouse or keyboard plugged in

    I have an Abit KN9 motherboard, and a USB keyboard and mouse. The computer will not POST with the keyboard or mouse plugged in, but they can be used (and they are fully functional) if you plug them in later, after POST. On the POST side of things, it hangs when it shows the installed processor, and goes no further - pressing DEL to go to setup will not work. I've tried disabling legacy USB support as recommended, but can't find the option anywhere in the BIOS.

  • HP dv6000 laptop powers on only if plugged in

    My HP dv6000 laptop will not run on battery power. It will only run while plugged into the wall. I have already replaced the battery, but it still will not operate on battery power. The problem began slowly. The original battery's life got shorter and shorter, until eventually it would only last ~45 seconds before going into hibernation. Finally, the battery would not work at all, so I threw it out and just used it without a battery. I bought a replacement recently.... but the problem persists. When I connect the new battery to the system, the "charging" light turns on for about 30 seconds, then goes dark. I'm assuming there's something wrong with the internal charging circuitry? If this is the case, how would I go about fixing this, short of buying a new motherboard? If anyone could give me some assistance in confirming/rejecting my diagnosis I'd be very appreciative! :)

  • Acer Aspire One (mini) mfgd 9/03 locks up also when plugged in

    My problem is almost the same as the Toshiba user (Toshiba A205-5804 freezes when plugged in): Well I have a Toshiba A205-5804 and the problem is that the screen freezes anytime I plug the pc into the external power supply, not as most of the computers having the same issue, my computer DOES freeze in safe mode, and I really can't bear this problem for much longer... It's not an overheat problem, the computer is not getting hot or anything related, I've tried already to change the AC adapter, to boot only with AC and no battery, and also all of these suggestions: The only difference in my case is: I can be using the battery and when it runs down, I can just close the lid and the system goes into hibernation mode. I then plug it in and let it charge. When I think it's finally charged, I can UNPLUG it, open the lid and all is running fine on the battery again. Note: the system was NOT shut down and it still runs as long as I remove the power plug before opening the lid. I have ALL the same issues as the other Toshiba user, also. I was a tech for 9 yrs in my own business and this one has not only stumped me, but anyone I have asked has never heard of this problem. Every repair center wants to charge me for diagnosis, even is they cannot fix it. I would really like to run this system along side of my new Acer Aspire 17" laptop as I need it to finish my grad school work. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanx, Laurie Ann

  • No headphone or speakers plugged in - Windows 7 issue

    I am facing a wierd issue between my sound card driver and Windows7(any edition). I have a sony vaio notebook (VPCEB24EN). Two days ago, on start I got diabled wifi, charging and speakers. Then I restart the PC and everthing worked fine. Later on I again restarted my machine, and then I found the my speakers were not working. I thought, restart will work. I restarted many more times but it did'nt work. I searched google and found that , it might be due to : 1. Hardware is not switched on from bios. 2. No hardware. 3. overriding 64-bit drivers with 32-bit drivers. To make it working, I restored my laptop from scratched, but while restoring pc, the realtek HD drivers, it gave me an error 505. I then formatted the drive and installed Win7 Ultimate 32bit (With PC was, Win7 64-bit Home Basic). I got lots of yellow exclamation in device manager, thinking now this will resolve my issue. But Even after the installing all drivers on a fresh installation, I was still with the same position. A red cross on speaker- No Speakers or Headphone plugged in. Please Note: My Laptop is Vaio , E Series, VPCEB24EN. Audio : Intel® High Definition Audio compatible but accepts Realted Audio. While using BIOS Agent, I got Intel Chipset 5 Series Audio Adapter and ATI RV370 Audio adapter found on my board. Installed is Win7 32bit Ultimate. factory default was Win7 64-bit Home Basic Memory: RAM 3GB/ 320GB HDD Display : ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5145 Graphics

  • hp DL380 G4 won't boot with disk plugged into front USB

    We outgrew a few older external USB backup drives, and purchased WD My Passport 1 TB USB 3.0 drives to replace them. When they are plugged into the front of our G4, it will blink forever after the BIOS (which is current, BTW) and never boot, even though the USB disks are not "bootable" per se. Our old drives did not exhibit this behaviour (so I don't think it's this type of issue that I've read about other servers.) The old drives were USB 2.0, but this shouldn't make a difference, AFAICT--the specs say all of the G4's USB ports are the same, 2.0, anyway, so I'm not sure how one port would handle a USB 3.0 device better than another. If we plug the new drives in one of the back slots, it boots fine. What's the cause? My concern is that the front USB port, and possibly the motherboard, might be starting to die. (We are experiencing other strange issues with them, or were initially, like intermittent file permissions errors despite wide-open ACL on these local drives, but some serverfault users have me convinced they may be coincidental software/security related issues.)

    I just finished assembling a desktop for the first time. The specs are: Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H motherboard Core i3 530 CPU 4 GB DDR3 RAM 1 TB SATA hard drive 500 Watt PSU As soon as I plug in the computer, the "phase LED" starts blinking orange and the system fan LED blinks while the fan "twitches". This continues until about three seconds after I unplug the computer. This worries me a lot because I haven't even turned the computer on and it continues even after there is no power. I did make sure the PSU is on the proper power setting. What is causing this and how can I fix it? Is the motherboard dead?

After booting I can unplug without any consequences. I looked on the hard drive and there is a boot folder.     I have the following scenario: I want to automatically backup some data from my Laptop(Fedora Core 17) to a external encrypted(luks) hard disk. The disk can be opened by a key file, which lies on the also encrypted root partition of my laptop. The hard disk is attached to my docking station and therefore only "present" when I am at home (which is approximately 1/2 of the time the Laptop runs) I have everything set up the way I want it with one exception. I don't get a decent way to mount the hard disk automatically at boot if and only if it is present. If I add it to crypttab and fstab without noauto it tries to mount it at boot and takes a lot(!) of time and error messages when it is not present. If I add noauto, well it does not mount automatically ;) Is there a way to configure luks/crypttab to do the following: check whether the disk is present if yes: decrypt/mount if no: just don't

  • Wireless DHCP doesn't work until wired Ethernet plugged in

    A client of mine has an Asus R1F tablet running Windows XP Tablet SP3. It has an Intel 3945ABG wireless card; wired Ethernet is a Realtek something-or-other. In the past few days, it's developed an odd problem: WiFi authenticates, but can't get an address via DHCP. plug in wired Ethernet - both interfaces get good addresses unplug cable, WiFi continues to work until shutdown. Next morning, repeat process. I've tried: turning WiFi off/on (there's a slider switch) disabling/re-enabling via Device Mangler uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the 3945ABG... changing from Intel Pro/SET to Windows Wireless Zero Config (and back) restarting the router changing the static DHCP assignments at the router upgrading the router firmware, just on general principles The router/access point is pfSense 1.2.3RC1 (was 1.2.2); wireless card is Atheros-based. None of the 12 other users (5 with tablets) are having problems.

  • Output to TV only works if monitor is plugged in

    I am trying to use my TV as the sole output for a computer. The computer has a graphics card with 2 outputs - one RGB and one DVI. I have the RGB output going to the TV, and when the DVI output is connected to a monitor, display works fine on both the monitor and the TV. If I turn off the monitor, or even turn off power to the monitor, the TV continues to display the desktop. If I unplug the DVI cable from the monitor (remember that the monitor doesn't have any power at this point), the TV stops presenting the desktop and displays a "Not Accepted" message. When starting up the computer, the TV displays fine, but stops working at the "press ctrl-alt-delete" screen unless the monitor is connected. How can I make the TV show the display without the monitor? The TV is an LG RT-42PZ45V. The graphics card is an ATI Radeon series HD4350 512MB GDDR2. The computer is running Windows Server 2008 r2.

It's not an overheating problem, the computer is not getting hot or anything related, I've already tried changing the AC adapter, booting only with AC and no battery, and also all of these suggestions: Try changing the following setting in the bios setup, under the 'Advanced' tab Dynamic CPU Frequency: Mode = Always Low (NOT DYNAMIC) My laptop has been running on AC power without a problem for 24hours, including many restarts, and when I went back to the original bios setting, the problem returned almost straight away. EDIT Other suggestions I found on the web from here and here: Set the power plan to high performance Set the power plan to "Minimal Power Management" (1 and 2 do conflict) Start - Control Panel - Device Manager -- Processor - disable one of two processors - reboot normally 4.Do this: Only plug battery into laptop Turn on the laptop and start Windows normally Plug AC adapter into laptop, the screen will freeze Leave the laptop the way it is for 12-24 hours After 12-24 hours, turn it off the hard way Once it is turned off, turn it back on. The laptop is working now. I have no idea of what can it be...

  • PHP application failed to connect after a network plugged back in

    My data-center appears to have had some issues with their network and thus my server has suffered from on an off network connectivity for about an hour. After the connection has been completely re-established my code still kept reporting the same issue over and over until I have restarted the service. The code is a simple PHP code that loops forever checking the Apple feed-back server and then sleeps for a few minutes and then it begins all over again. Now I understand the error being generated if the network is down but once it got back up why did it continue until I have restarted the code? Does PHP have something that needs to be re-initialized or something??   • Auto backup a user folder to a usb when usb is plugged in

    I'm a computer technician and help customers everyday with their computers and smartphones and have a really basic (i think) request but dont know how to go about it. Customer always come in with broken phones, water damage, needing updates, or just want me to backup their information. I currently have a program that i use when i backup their computers it backups their iOS folder C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup but what i want is a quick easy way to do this in customers houses. What i require is a way when i plug in a USB drive it AUTOMATICALLY searches for the folder and starts transferring the folder to a predefined folder on the USB drive. This was I can just plug it in and begin work on their computer or phone without the risk of losing their information. I'm sure there is a .bat/.ini file i could use but wondering if someone has already done this or something similar as I would need it to search all the USER folders not just the one I'm logged into.   • Laptop display not working unless DVI cable is plugged in

    I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with an i5 processor and integrated graphics. I dropped the laptop and now the screen is not working. I replaced the screen and it is still not working. It shows the BIOS and then at Windows login the screen gets all static looking. But if I plug in a DVI-to-HDMI cable the laptop starts and works fine. Even the external display works and the laptop display works too. As soon as I unplug the cable the screen crashes and is all static. I cannot figure out the problem. The video works because the external screen still works. How can I fix this?

  • 100% CPU use when new usb device plugged in - services.exe / Windows Server 2003

    On my server I am trying to install a new usb drive but all that happens is that the system starts using huge amounts of processor cycles with services.exe. On closer inspection with process explorer there is a thread called umpnpmgr.dll using most of the services.exe processor time. I left it for a half hour and still nothing happened. Rebooted and tried again, same result. Tried a different usb drive, then a flash drive but still same issue. Tried updating driver but it said the update function was already in action. I have used process explorer to kill the thread now so the server can still perform its intended functions. Any device that was previously installed before this began happening will still work but any device new to the system will not. My question(s) is/are: Is there a way to manually install the device into the registry so Windows thinks it is a previously installed device? Or can this problem be repaired through anything other than a reinstall? To do a reinstall would mean backing up large amounts of data which is hard with a usb drive and insufficient space on all other network machines. Any help would be greatly appreciated. William
