• CentOS 5.4 NFS v4 client file permissions differ from original files & NFS Share file contents

  Having a strange problem with NFS share and file permissions on the 1 out of the 2 NFS clients, web1 has file permissions issues but web2 is fine. web1 and web2 are load balanced web servers. So questions are: how do I ensure NFS share file contents retain the same permissions for user/group as the original files on web1 server like they do on web2 server ? how do I reverse what I did on web1, i tried unmount command and said command not found ? Information: I'm using 3 dedicated server setup. All 3 servers CentOS 5.4 64bit based. servers are as follows: web1 - nfs client with file permissions issues web2 - nfs client file permissions are OKAY db1 - nfs share at /nfsroot web2 nfs client was setup by my web host, while web1 was setup by me. I did the following commands on web1 and it worked with updating db1 nfsroot share at /nfsroot/site_css with latest files on web1 but the file permissions don't stick even if i use tar with -p command to perserve file permissions ? cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zcp site_css/ > site_css.tar.gz mount -t nfs4 nfsshareipaddress:/site_css /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css/ -o rw,soft cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zxf site_css.tar.gz But checking on web1 file permissions no longer username user/group but owned by nobody ? but web2 file permissions correct ? This is only a problem for web1 while web2 is correct ? Looks like numeric ids aren't the same ? • updatedb & locate command problem - Files from external hard drive are no longer indexed after rebooting

  Files from my external hard drive are no longer indexed after rebooting. I have to remount and then run # updatedb after each reboot. The problem is updatedb takes a few minutes for my external hard drives. Is there any way I can retain indexing for my externals after I reboot so that the locate command can search through my externals? • Galaxy Note II MTP on Ubuntu 12.04

  I bought a branding new Galaxy Note II and I tried to mount its storage to my ubuntu laptop. As you know, Android 4.0+ uses MTP by default. Android 4.1 doesn't support USB Mass Storage anymore! So I have to use MTP to open my files via USB. I followed this article to get it work. • sudo in Debian squeeze inside linux-vserver always wants password

  Every since I upgraded all my linux-vserver Debian guests from Lenny to Squeeze I've the apparent problem that whenever I want to use sudo it asks me for my password. Every time. I've configured sudo to have a timeout of 30 minutes: Defaults timestamp_timeout=30 . This has been configured when it was still Lenny (note: as suggested by EightBitTony I've also tried without this setting - no change). I've a hard time figuring out what the problem here is, since I think my configuration is right. I thought about it being a problem with the file used to record the timestamp, maybe a permission issue, but was unlucky to find any hard evidence. I've compared the contents of /var/lib/sudo/ between a working and a non-working system but couldn't spot any difference. The version of sudo used in both environments is 1.7.4p4-2.squeeze.3. • Why is this file hidden when you run ls?

  For a few weeks now I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to delete this one particular file. As root I can, but my shell script runs as a different user. So I go run ls -la and it's not there. However, if I call it as a parameter, it shows up! Sure enough, the owner is root, hence I'm not able to delete. Notice, 6535 is missing ... • Browsing Your ADF Application Module Pooling Params with WLST

  In ADF 11g you can of course use Enterprise Manager (EM) to browse and configure the settings used by ADF Business Components  Application Modules, as shown here for one of my sample deployed applications. This screen you can access from the EM homepage by pulling down the Application Deployment menu, and then ADF > Configure ADF Business Components. Then select the profile that you are actually using (Hint: look in the DataBindings.cpx file to work this out - probably the "Local" version unless you've explicitly changed it. )So, from this screen you can change the pooling parameters and the world is good. But what if you don't have EM installed? In that case you can use the WebLogic scripting capabilities to view (and Update) the MBean Properties. Explanation The pooling parameters and many others are handled through Message Driven Beans that are created for the deployed application in the server. In the case of the ADF BC pooling parameters, this MBean will combine the configuration deployed as part of the application, along with any overrides defined as -D environement commands on the JVM startup for the application server instance. Using WLST to Browse the Bean ValuesFor our purposes here I'm doing this interactively, although you can also write a script or write Java to achieve the same thing.Step 0: Before You Start You will need the followingAccess to the console on the machine that is running the serverThe WebLogic Admin username and password (I'll use weblogic/password as my example here - yours will be different)The name of the deployed application (in this example FMWdh_application1)The package path to the bc4j.xcfg file (in this example oracle.demo.fmwdh.model.service.common.bc4j.xcfg) This is based on the default path for your model project so it shoudl be fairly easy to work out.The BC configuration your AM is actually running with (look in the DataBindings.cpx for that. In this example DealHelpServiceDeployed is the profile being used..)Step 1: Start the WLST consoleTo start at the beginning, you need to run the WLST command but that needs a little setup:Change to the wlserver_10.3/server/bin directory e.g. under your Fusion Middleware Home[oracle@mymachine] cd /home/oracle/FMW_R1/wlserver_10.3/server/binSet your environment using the setWLSEnv script. e.g. on Oracle Enterprise Linux:[oracle@mymachine bin] source setWLSEnv.shStart the WLST interactive console[oracle@mymachine bin] java weblogic.WLSTInitializing WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) ...Welcome to WebLogic Server Administration Scripting ShellType help() for help on available commandswls:/offline> Step 2:Enter the WLST commandsConnect to the server wls:> connect('weblogic','password')Change to the Custom root, this is where the AMPooling MBeans are registered wls:> custom()Change to the b4j MBean directorywls:> cd ('oracle.bc4j.mbean.config')Work out the correct directory for the AM configuration you need. This is the difficult bit, not because it's hard to do, but because the names are long. The structure here is such that every child MBean is displayed at the same level as the parent, so for each deployed application there will be many directories shown. In fact, do an ls() command here and you'll see what I mean. Each application will have one MBean for the app as a whole, and then for each deployed configuration in the .xcfg file you'll see: One for the config entry itself, and then one each for Security, DB Connection and AM Pooling. So if you deploy an app with just one configuration you'll see 5 directories, if it has two configurations in the .xcfg you'll see 9 and so on.The directory you are looking for will contain those bits of information you gathered in Step 0, specifically the Application Name, the configuration you are using and the xcfg name: First of all narrow your list to just those directories returned from the ls() command that begin oracle.bc4j.mbean.config:name=AMPool. These identify the AM pooling MBeans for all the deployed applications. • Mount problem on 12.10

  I've just done an online upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 - seemed to have gone well, but now I cannot access other drives (partitions) on my PC, also flash drives.   Hello, With the availability of compact USB memory sticks with much, MUCH higher storage capacities is there still any use-case for taking periodic, incremental backups on DVD/RWs? The DVD/RW has an additional annoyance that you cannot drag and drop files to it as easily as you can on a USB memory stick. So, if I have a 4.7GB DVD/RW, I must re-burn the whole image every time I backup new stuff... with possibly rearranged file/folder structure. Secondly, why in this day and age you cannot install a file-system (like ext3 or FAT32) on a DVD/RW... and likewise on CD/RW's as you can on a USB memory stick? Many thanks, /HS

  I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 from the alternate CD. It has an encrypted root and swap partition. The root partition is visible in Nautilus as 'File Syste' icon. There is another icon "216 GB Filesystem". If I click it says: Unable to mount 216 GB Filesystem. /dev/mapper/sda5_crypt is mounted. Then there is another icon "6.1 GB Swap Space". If I click it it says: Unable to mount 6.1 GB Swap Space. Not a mountable file system. How can I hide these last two icons? • Used mountmanager now Ubuntu hangs on boot

  I was using MountManager in Ubuntu 12.04 to set user permissions in mounting hard drives. I set each partititon to be mountable by everyone instead of admin only. Then I clicked Apply in the file menu and it gave me the message successfully updated. Upon restarting Ubuntu, just hangs on the splash screen and does not boot any further. Windows still boots fine.   Hello, I have nfs4 configured between a RHEL 5.3 server (charlie) and a RHEL 5.4 client (simcom1). The machines are configured to authenticate users via kerberos by a Windows Server 2008 active directory machine called "alpha." Alpha also serves as a dns and dhcp machine for the local network. I notice that when a user logs in to a RHEL machine for the first time they are issued a unique uid to that machine; The first user to log on gets 10001. So, what I see is that users between simcom1 and charlie have different UIDs. When a user does an 'ls -la' command from within an nfs4 mount I would have thought that the usernames in the owner column would indicate 'nobody' or at least the wrong user name - since UIDs are different between the machines for each user, and not all users have logged into each machine. However, the simcom1 is able to resolve usernames in an 'ls -la' executed on files residing on charlie via nfs4 correctly. Most troubling is that users are unable to write to files across the nfs mount. The server, charlie, has the root directory exported as rw. The client, simcom1, mounts the export as rw. My configurations are shown below. My question is, how do I configure the RHEL machines to allow users to write files across nfs4 that is already mounted as read/write? • Removing open session from dvd-rw

  As you can see from the above image, nero is showing some "session is open" in my DVD rewritable disc. The problem is whenever I erase the session it is not getting erased and I am unable to write the remaining part of the disc. So, the worst part is will I be able to use this dvd-rw again or now it's just a waste scrap? • Lost files after installing Ubuntu

  I installed Ubuntu on my laptop over windows, I had 2 partitions on one hard disk. It seems like my second partition is gone with all my files. How can I recover the old files? They weren't on the same partition as Windows.   Anyone have any experience with virtfs on cPanel servers?   I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and I'm having an issue with Cacti 0.8.8b not displaying any data in graphs. The graphs are being created and I see files in /var/lib/cacti/rra. The device in cacti shows that that it's able to query snmp and ping is alive. The graphs are still empty though. snmpwalk 127.0.0.1 -v2c -c public works as it should. It walks all MIBs. I'm quite perplexed as to why this isn't working any longer. It was graphing data but then it just stopped. And when it was graphing data it was graphing it intermittently. • Dell XPS 1530 DVD-RW firmware problem

  Hello everyone. I have this XPS laptop since a year and a half ago. About 2 months ago, with the waranty expired, i tried to run the optiarc slot load DVD-RW firmware update, and said everything was okay. Then I restarted it and the problem started: Now, every single time I turn on my computer, it get stuck at the BIOS POST until the drive sounds like "ready" and then the computer starts normally. And this happen EXACTLY the same when it's getting back from sleep. I'm pretty sure is not a software issue, because I tried with Vista Home Premiun 32 bits, Ubuntu (from 8.10+)32 & 64, and with W7 64. Already tried to run the firmware installer like a million time, in case it is a failing install with no luck. Also, google it to see if someone has the same problem, and again, no. The Drive performs pretty okay once the System is on, but waiting to the drive to be ready everytime is really annoying. The Firmware I updated was this, and the drive is: K937C Assembly, Dvd+/-rw, 8, SLOT, 1530 Sony Nec Optiarc Inc. I'll apreciate any help you can give me
