• Trouble printing to local printer when connected to VPN with split-tunneling enabled

  I'm a volunteer network admin for a multi-tenant non-profit office space. One of our new tenants uses a VPN to connect to remote resources using RRAS and Small Business Server 2008. They also have a local network printer for the workstations in our office. When connected to the VPN, they cannot print to the local printer. I informed their network admin that they need to enable split-tunneling to fix this. Their network admin enabled split-tunneling, but apparently printing still didn't work. He told me that I need to open port 1723 on our office firewall to allow it to work. I'm just a novice administrator and not familiar with RRAS, but this doesn't sound right to me and I haven't been able to find anything on the web to validate it. Additionally, my understanding of split-tunneling is that it is handled entirely by the VPN client and should work irrespective of firewall settings. Is my understanding of the situation incorrect? What steps should I take to resolve this problem?

• Open a buffer as a vertical split in VIM

  If you are editing a file in VIM and then you need to open an existing buffer (e.g. from your buffer list: :buffers) how can you open it in a vertical split? I know that you already can open it with a normal split like: :sbuffer N Wehere N is the buffer number you want, however, the above opens that N buffer horizontally, not vertically. I'm also aware that you can change the window placement after opening and have a Vertical Split like so: Ctrl-W H Ctrl-W L Which will vertically split the window to the right or the left. It seems to me that if there is a sbuffer there should be a vsbuffer but that doesn't exist (not that I am aware of) Also, please note that I am not looking for a plugin to solve this question. I know about a wealth of plugins that will allow you to do this. I am sure I might be missing something that is already there. EDIT: In the best spirit of collaboration, I have created a simple Function with a Mapping if someone else stumbles across this issue and do not want to install a plugin: Function: " Vertical Split Buffer Function function VerticalSplitBuffer(buffer) execute "vert belowright sb" a:buffer endfunction Mapping: " Vertical Split Buffer Mapping command -nargs=1 Vbuffer call VerticalSplitBuffer(<f-args>) This accomplishes the task of opening a buffer in a right split, so for buffer 1, you would call it like: :Vbuffer 1

• Firewalling a Cisco ASA Split tunnel

  I have a Cisco ASA 5510 at head office, and Cisco ASA 5505 in remote offices. The remote offices are connected over a split tunnelled VPN - the ASA 5505s use "Easy VPN" Client type VPN in Network Extension Mode (NEM). I'd like to set firewall rules for the non-tunnelled traffic only. Traffic over the VPN to head office should not have any firewall rules applied. I might want to apply different firewall rules to different remote offices. All the documentation I have been able to find assumes the Client VPN is a software endpoint, and all the configuration is done at the 5510. When using a Cisco 5505 as the VPN client, is it possible to configure any firewalling at the Client end, or does it all have to come from the 5510? Are there any other issues to look out for when split-tunnelling a VPN by this method?

  I'm curious if their is some python magic I may not know to accomplish a bit of frivolity given the line: csvData.append(','.join([line.split(":").strip() for x in L])) I'm attempting to split a line on :, trim whitespace around it, and join on , problem is, since the array is returned from line.split(":"), the for x in L #<== L doesn't exist! causes issues since I have no name for the array returned by line.split(":") So I'm curious if there is a sexy piece of syntax I could use to accomplish this in one shot? • Split Internet Explorer into Dual-Panes

  If you have a wide screen monitor then you may want to make better use of Internet Explorer’s browser window area. Now you can split the browser window into dual-panes as needed with the IE Split browser plugin. Note: Requires .NET Framework 2.0 or higher (link provided below). IE Split in Action If you are using an older version of this software here is something to keep in mind before upgrading to the 2.0 release. Once you have installed IE Split you will notice a new toolbar added to your browser. As seen here, you can condense it down tightly and access it using the drop-down bar. A closer look at the drop-down bar. Notice the address bar…this will be for the left pane when you split the browser window. Here is our browser split into dual-panes. There are two address bars and two tab/title bars each corresponding to their appropriate pane. It may look slightly backwards at first but is not hard to get used to. A better view of the left pane with the IE Split navigation & title bars showing. Note: The title bar can be hidden if desired. And the right pane. You can also have multiple “split” tabs open if needed. There is nothing quite like getting double the value for the same amount of space. When you no longer need dual-panes open just click on the “x” to close IE Split down. All back to normal again. Conclusion While might not be for everyone this can still be useful for those who need side-by-side access to websites without using multiple separate windows. The format of the split function I am using is also the same except, of course, for the delimiting character. What causes this variation?

• Force Juniper-network client to use split routing

  I'm using the Juniper client for OSX ('Network Connect') to access a client's VPN. It appears that the client is configured to not use split-routing. The client's VPN host is not willing to enable split-routing. Is there a way for me to over-ride this configuration or do sometime on my workstation to get the non-client network traffic to by-pass the VPN? This wouldn't be a big deal, but none of my streaming radio stations (e.g. XM) work will connected to their VPN. Apologies for any inaccuracies in the terminology. ** edit ** The Juniper client changes my system's resolve.conf file from: nameserver 192.168.0.1 to: search XXX.com [redacted] nameserver 10.30.16.140 nameserver 10.30.8.140 I've attempted to restore my preferred DNS entry to the file $ sudo echo "nameserver 192.168.0.1" >> /etc/resolv.conf but this results in the following error: -bash: /etc/resolv.conf: Permission denied How does the super-user account not have access to this file? Is there a way to prevent the Juniper client from making changes to this file?

  I just changed my Apache log behavior because it was making me having very BIG files... So I now use cronolog to split my logs to log/httpd/2012/11/access_2012.11.30.log for exemple, pattern : %Y/%m/access_%Y.%m.%d.log I now want to split my old 42GB file to the same structure but really don't know how to do that efficiently. I tried some simple commands with cat, egrep, awk... but really don't know how to handle all that in a more powerful script. Here is how the log looks like : x.x.237.134 - - [08/Apr/2011:14:43:09 +0200] "GET... x.x.50.15 - - [08/Apr/2011:14:43:09 +0200] "GET... [...] x.x.254.19 - - [28/Feb/2012:15:24:48 +0100] "GET... • Need help finding a program to split PDFs based on text in specific areas

  I reeeeally need help with this. I work for a University in the admissions office and we get large PDFs of every document that an applicant uploads to us. What I need to do is split these PDFs into separate documents. Each of the separate documents has a head at the top of what type of document it is (Statement of Purpose, Transcript, etc). I found a program a few weeks ago that at first seemed to work great (A-PDF Splitter). It would look for every type of document in a combined PDF (eg. Statement of Purpose), and if it saw that heading it would create a new PDF named "ORIGINALFILENAME-Statement of Purpose". I soon discovered though that the program breaks for no reason on certain PDFs, and I have to take the time to take that PDF out of the queue and start the splitting over again (and we get 250 a day). I contacted their support and they basically told me I was SOL. So please, if you can find me a program to split PDFs into smaller PDFs based on if it finds particular text in a region, then I would be forever in dept to you. If I don't find one soon then I'm going to be spending the entire day splitting PDFs by hand and my boss isn't going to be happy.

  If I have an image with a table containing several rows, say like the periodic table: Are there any tool I can use to split this into one smaller image with the H He row, another image for the Li Be ... Ne row, etc? The tool does not have to detect the row borders by itself, specifying a start offset + row height in pixels is ok. Manually selecting and cutting/copying in gimp is not an option, I have way to many rows to process.

  I need some clarification if I understood this correctly. I've been reading about Active Directory and naming my domain, and the reason Microsoft didn't suggest using external public domain was DNS Split. If I understood correctly (and please correct me if I did) in this case I have two Domain Name Servers, both doing the same job, but one of them is internal (in my company i.e.) and the other is a public one. Did I misunderstand this and if I did could somebody explain this to me? I hope this question is not too broad for this site! Cheers.

• Remote support via VPN without split tunnel

  my title might not be very clear, but I'll explain my setup in more detail now. We have several customers (companies) that need to be remotely supported. At these customers we have servers running with our software that needs to be serviced. These servers are (almost) never connected to the internet. For this we have multiple PC's running VPN clients. These PC's run a VNC server so our service engineers can login from their home laptop remotely to these PC's and connect from there to our customer via the VPN connection on the PC. The problem is however that several customers do not allow split tunneling. That means that when we connect via VPN to such a customer the VNC connection drops. Our current workaround is using a Citrix VM which we control via XenCenter console, but it's quite slow. Are there common solutions to handle this?

I see that there are a lot of freeware tools (various zip tools) for this task, but I need to move files off of a production server, thus would like to avoid tools I don't know if I can trust. I would much prefer some tool included in the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools or something along those lines. Does such a tool exist? Thank you.

  Hi, I have multiple CSV files which I need to parse in a loop to gather information. The problem is that while they are the same format, some are delimited by '\t' and others by ','. After this, I want to remove the double-quote from around the string. Can python split via multiple possible delimiters? At the minute, I can split the line with one by using: f = open(filename, "r") fields = f.readlines() for fs in fields: sf = fs.split('\t') tf = [fi.strip ('"') for fi in sf] Any suggestions are welcome.

  I've got a button that I use with jQueryUI somethink like this (simplified). <button id="mybutton">Play<button> <script> $("#mybutton").button().toggle( function(){ $(this).text('Stop'); }, function(){ $(this).text('Start'); }, ); </script> This code breaks the way the button looks because when making it into the button widget, there's a new span added inside the button. So I'm changing the button value like this now $(this).find('span').text('Stop'); This is hacky because I can't treat the button as a black box anymore and have to go inside. Is there a clean way to do this?

  yesterday I noticed the possibility to integrate Fragments in older API Levels through the Compatibility package, but thats not really essential for the question. :) I have a Button with an OnClickListener Button button = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button); button.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { doSomething(); button.setPressed(true); } }); Because of the actual clicking, it is shown as pressed and after releasing the click, the button state is not pressed and stays that way. Is there a simple way that keeps the button state pressed after releasing? First thing I can think of would be some sort of timer, but that seems unreasonable.

I seem to be able to find a few examples of splitting functions about the internet but they return a table containing the entire set of split parts. My SQL skills aren't that great so I need the answer to be ultra simple. I'm always working with nvarchar data and the function needs to be reusable.
