  • Wordpress: how to call a plugin function with an ajax call?

    I'm writing a Wordpress MU plugin, it includes a link with each post and I want to use ajax to call one of the plugin functions when the user clicks on this link, and then dynamically update the link-text with output from that function. I'm stuck with the ajax query. I've got this complicated, clearly hack-ish, way to do it, but it is not quite working. What is the 'correct' or 'wordpress' way to include ajax functionality in a plugin? (My current hack code is below. When I click the generate link I don't get the same output I get in the wp page as when I go directly to sample-ajax.php in my browser.)   • Can I output/flush data to screen while processing ajax page?

    I need to display on my page a list of records pulled from a table. Ajax works fine (I query the database and put all the data inside a on the main page) but if I have lots of records (say 500+) it will hang until data is fully loaded, THEN it will be sent back to the page and correctly displayed. I would like to be able to display the records on the page while getting them, instead of being forced to wait until completion. I am trying with flush(); inside the remote (ajax) page but it still waits until full data is loaded. This is what I currently have inside the ajax page: At the very beginning: @apache_setenv('no-gzip', 1); @ini_set('zlib.output_compression', 0); @ini_set('implicit_flush', 1); for ($i = 0; $i < ob_get_level(); $i++) { ob_end_flush(); } ob_implicit_flush(1); Then whenever I have a echo call: ob_flush(); Now if I load the ajax page alone... it will list the records while reading them from the database. But if I call the same page via Ajax, it will hang and send all the data at once. Any idea? Is it possible to generate the route in the requirement form, by which I mean "/foos/:id" Given the route: resource :foo do resource :bar end generate_route_method [@foo,@bar] - "/foos/:id/bars/:id" I'm not talking about #foos_path or #polymorphic_path, rather, literally generating the string containing the wildcard components (i.e ":id"), the same as it would appear as if you did "rake routes".

  • Passing a variable to jsp when reloading an iframe using javascript

    In my javascript code I load a jsp page in an iframe and pass some variables like this: htmlData[i++]="<iframe id=\"mapframe\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"width:330px;height:300px\" src=\"" + "mapURL.jsp" +"&lat=" + AjxStringUtil.urlComponentEncode("33.65") +"&lng=" + AjxStringUtil.urlComponentEncode("-84.42") +"&accord=" + AjxStringUtil.urlComponentEncode(accord) +"\"></iframe>"; Then I have to reload that jsp page after an action, and I do this: accord = ui.newHeader.text(); document.getElementById('mapframe').contentWindow.location.reload(); The reload works except that the "accord" variable is not getting updated. When I call it from the jsp, it still has its original value. How do I pass the new value when reloading the iframe/jsp? It shouldn't make any difference, but I am working with jquery and this is for a Yahoo zimlet. Thanks.

  • Floating point precision and physics calculations

    The gravity Vector2 in my physics world is (0; 0.1). The number 0.1 is known to be problematic, since "it cannot be represented exactly, but is approximately 1.10011001100110011001101 × 2-4". Having this value for the gravity gives me problems with collisions and creates quite nasty bugs. Changing the value to 0.11 solves these problems. Is there a more elegant solution that doesn't require changing the value at all?

  • determine if a restaurant is open now (like yelp does) using database, php, js

    i was wondering if anyone knows how yelp determines what restaurants are "open now"? i'm developing a similar application using html/javascript/php. i was going to have a column in my database for each day, with comma separated hours written in "2243" format (10:43 pm). so for example if a restaurant is open for lunch and dinner it might be "1100,1400,1700,2200". then i'd check (using js) if the current time falls in one of the ranges for the current day. i'd also like to be able to determine if a restaurant is "open tonight", "open late", etc. for those i guess i'd check whether the open range overlaps with certain ranges. is there a better way to do this? particularly, how to store the hours in the database and then determine if they overlap with a given set of hours. thanks.

  • jquery $.post returned data from php is empty

    hi, i'm using this code to post to a php page: var qreq = ".....myurl.php"; $.post(qreq, function(data){alert(data);}); in my PHP file i have this: ...... $prevtopic = $row["topic_id"]; echo $prevtopic; the alert comes up, but is blank. for some reason data is empty even though i'm echoing from the PHP file. i also tried just echoing "hi" but that didn't work either. what am i doing wrong? thanks.

    I want to make all my settings forms across my site confirm that changes are saved, kinda like facebook does if you make changes in a form and then try to navigate away without saving. So I'm disabling the submit button on the forms only enabling if the values change. Is there some way to chain the validations together or something? Or some other way to avoid re-writing the validation code to repeat the "did you change anything in the form" business?

I tried doing this by passing $flag as a parameter to the sub which generates the report. However, the last defined FORMAT seems to always take precedence and the final write when it happens, applies the last format no matter what the condition is. Is it possible to also add/hide fields using the same process. e.g. If $flag2 is defined, then add an additional field Field4 to the list?

  • Why is my Mac beeping at me in a Sprint-Nextel-PTT kind of way?

    I'm really stumped about this one. Before on OSX 10.5 and now on OSX 10.6, my Mac occasionally beeps at me. It's a split-second "bee-bee-beep" that sounds vaguely similar to the push-to-talk beep you hear on Sprint/Nextel PTT commercials. I haven't been able to isolate what's running when it happens or what happens before it happens. Possible culprits are Quicksilver, Firefox, DropBox, Evernote helper, TrueCrypt, Wally. Any thoughts?     short version: How do I replace values within a data frame with a string found within another data frame? longer version: I'm a biologist working with many species of bees. I have a data set with many thousands of bees. Each row has a unique bee ID # along with all the relevant info about that specimen (data of capture, GPS location, etc). The species information for each bee has not been entered because it takes a long time to ID them. When IDing, I end up with boxes of hundred of bees, all of the same species. I enter these into a separate data frame. I am trying to write code that will update the original data file with species information (family, genus, species, sex, etc) as I ID the bees. Currently, in the original data file, the species info is blank and is interpreted as NA within R. I want to have R find all unique bee ID #'s and fill in the species info, but I am having trouble figuring out how to replace the NA values with a string (e.g. "Andrenidae") Here is a simple example of what I am trying to do: rawData<-data.frame(beeID=c(1:20),family=rep(NA,20)) speciesInfo<-data.frame(beeID=seq(1,20,3),family=rep("Andrenidae",7)) rawData[rawData$beeID == 4,"family"] <- speciesInfo[speciesInfo$beeID == 4,"family"] So, I am replacing things as I want, but with a number rather than the family name (a string). What I would eventually like to do is write a little loop to add in all the species info, e.g.: for (i in speciesInfo$beeID){ rawData[rawData$beeID == i,"family"] <- speciesInfo[speciesInfo$beeID == i,"family"] } Thanks in advance for any advice!
