  • Modelsim (XE III/Starter 6.4b) not allowing me to define a macro function

    I'm working on a Xiling FPGA for a course project. Normally we use the lab computers, but I'm trying to install on my own computer. So, I'm trying to include a macro file using line: `include "Const.v" But the following macro function doesn't work.   • Fast partial sorting algorithm

    I'm looking for a fast way to do a partial sort of 81 numbers - Ideally I'm looking to extract the lowest 16 values (its not necessary for the 16 to be in the absolutely correct order). The target for this is dedicated hardware in an FPGA - so this slightly complicated matters as I want the area of the resultant implementation as small as possible. I looked at and implemented the odd-even merge sort algorithm, but I'm ideally looking for anything that might be more efficient for my needs (trade algorithm implementation size for a partial sort giving lowest 16, not necessarily in order as opposed to a full sort) Any suggestions would be very welcome Many thanks

  • How can I use foreach and fork together to do something in parallel?

    This question is not UVM specific but the example that I am working on is UVM related. I have an array of agents in my UVM environment and I would like to launch a sequence on all of them in parallel. If I do the below: foreach (env.agt[i]) begin seq.start(env.agt[i].sqr); end , the sequence seq first executes on env.agt[0].sqr. Once that gets over, it then executes on env.agt[1].sqr and so on. I want to implement a foreach-fork statement so that seq is executed in parallel on all agt[i] sequencers. No matter how I order the fork-join and foreach, I am not able to achieve that. Can you please help me get that parallel sequence launching behavior? Thanks.

  • binary number comparison

    If I have a 32 bit two's complement number and I want to know what is the easiest way to know of two numbers are equal... what would be the fastest bitwise operator to know this? I know xor'ing both numbers and check if the results are zero works well... any other one's? how about if a number is greater than 0?? I can check the 31'st bit to see if it's greater or equal to 0..but how about bgtz?

    I am thinking to take the next semester a course called "Digital systems architecture", and I know that we need to program micro-controllers with several programming languages such as C, C++, verilog, and VHDL. I want to be prepared to take that course, but I need to know if I need to study deeper these languages. At this moment, I have taken one course in basic Java dealing with basic methods, data types, loop structures, vectors, matrices, and GUI programing. Must I study deeper Java and then go with C, and C++? Besides, I know basic verilog and VHDL.

  • How can you learn to code faster? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: How to Code Faster (Without Sacrificing Quality) I think I code pretty well. I'd say I'm in the top 20% of the folks doing what I do (ASIC verification using System Verilog). But, out of the folks that I admire and aspire to be like, the difference isn't so much quality of code, but the fact that they can pump out reams of good quality code very quickly. Of course, they've been at it far longer than I have. Is it possible to learn to code faster without compromising quality? Or is that something that only comes with time and experience?
