• Huawei 3G modem disconnects after successful connection

  I'm having a severe connection problem in Ubuntu 12.04 that renders the OS almost useless. I have a Huawei E352 3G modem. Ubuntu detects it as a mobile broadband connection without any problem. I created a new connection by providing APN. Now after connection it disconnects after a few seconds, and the modem disappears from mobile broadband list. I tried various workarounds but neither worked. I had no problem in Ubuntu 11.10.

  I have a system that I need to programmatically interface with that requires a set of numbers to be dialed after the phone line is picked up, like a standard automated phone answering system. For instance, dial the number 123-456-7890, wait for the line to be answered, wait 15 seconds for the voice prompt, dial 1234#, hang up. The question is, can I and how do I do that through a modem? I know how to dial a number through a modem, it's simply ATDT[phone number], but that will attempt to initiate a data connection which will not allow touch-tone number entry. Would a voice modem provide the necessary capability? If so, could anyone provide example commands to accomplish this?

• My pc freezes when I connect to the internet with my iburst usb modem

  I am quite new to it and I'm having some trouble with iBurst usb modem.I followed the instructions of Graham Inggs here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Iburst and now it seems I can connect to the internet, but when I try to connect my whole desktop freezes. When I boot into Ubuntu with my modem connected all is well until I try to open Firefox then my desktop freezes as well.I used Graham Inngs' ibdriver in DKMS fromat solution and it worked apart from the freezing. Graham Inggs made a patch for this problem for older linux versions but I can't seem to find anything compatible with 12.04. Can someone please help?

• Connecting a reliance zte AC2737 netconnect + modem

  I have a Reliance netconnect+ zte Ac2737. It has an allocated data of 5gb per month. The modem works fine only after the allocated data is over, for which i have to pay extra to the provider. I tried contacting the provider, but it was not of much help. The system detects the modem every time. I assume that it must be a possible problem with the provider, so is there any chance it is the problem of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit itself as i have no other reason to think otherwise an it works fine every time on windows.

  In Ubuntu 12.10 USB-modem Huawei 171 from MTS is not connected to the network. First on the message "Are you registered on the network", immediately after that, "You are disconnected from the network." This happened after there was an internal error notification Ubuntu. I did not pay attention, and closed by sending the report. After the reboot does not work. Settings are not changed. I am online with this modem in Windows 8. I'm a new Debian user, it looks like a very good choice 4 me, every thing is stable, free and easy to use. the problem is, I'm using my modem to establish a dial up connection to the internet (ppp) (a very old stupid way I'm forced to use for now), and using the KPPP application to do that, and nothing is working properly for me. it seems like it didn't recognize my modem or something. i already tried to make a few stuff, and now i know my modem is on /dev/tty0, so i made a link for that on /dev/modem, and query the modem using KPPP and it responded with something like: Ati : Ati0: Ati1: ... ... Ati7: with a textBox to fill up in front of each one of thees Atis, and now, when i press connect on kppp, it says modem ready, and that's it. BTW, my modem is MDC AC'97 any suggestions pleas ....

  I have a voice application that would be much-improved if there was the ability to use a "trigger word" to start recording audio. I don't need a full speech-text engine, just the ability to reliably/efficiently detect the trigger word. I am wondering if there are any specialized speech engines that support this specific use case, or any libraries/methods to developing such a single-purpose detection engine. Ideally I'd like it to work in noisy environments, but it can be trained for a single user's voice. Pointers to research papers / topics would also be appreciated so I know what to ask for.

• DSL Modem with Wireless Router

  I have a D-Link WBR-1310 wireless router and a TP-Link TD-8616 DSL modem. My old DSL modem died recently and I got the TP-Link as a replacement. With my old DSL modem, I plugged it into the WAN port on my D-Link and I could reach the internet through wireless and through the network. However, when I plugged the new TP-Link into the WAN port, I was not able to get any internet connectivity (either on the network ports or through wireless). So I plugged my labtop directly into the TP-Link DSL modem and I was able to get internet connectivity. I'm trying to figure out why my labtop can see the internet connection, but not the D-Link router. I think that the problem is due to the IP networking. My D-Link was originally set to have IP address 192.168.1.1. According to the documentation for the TP-Link DSL modem, it uses 192.168.1.1 as its IP address. I do not believe that my old DSL modem had an IP address. I logged into my D-Link router and changed its IP address to 192.168.1.2 and restarted it. Unfortunately, I still could not see the internet from my wireless devices. I've read a few forum postings which implied that I needed to setup a "bridge" between the two networks. Does that sound correct? Why didn't my old DSL modem require a bridge? I read pg. 12-13 of my D-Link's manual and they suggest that I need to disable UPnP, DHCP, and then plug the DSL modem into one of the LAN ports on my router. I'm concerned about doing this since I don't think that the firewall will work if I plug my DSL modem into one of the LAN ports. I also have a home NAS on my network and I wouldn't want that to be available over the internet. Does anyone have any advice about how I can get my TPLink DSL modem to work with my D-Link router?   I am facing difficulty in installing my USB modem in Ubuntu 13.10. Contrary to what many have suggested,it does not get detected automatically, nor does setting a new connection help. USB Device is listed in lsusb, but not under network manager or Devices, it is detected as a CD-ROM, what I understood from the web was that usb-modeswitch can be used to switch it to a USB device. Even 'Enable Mobile Broadband' option is not shown in network manager. What was interesting is when I start laptop with windows 7 and use the USB modem and after that restart with Ubuntu, both Enable Broadband and the mobile broadband connection can be seen. Sadly, internet connection could not be installed. I tried using USB-modeswitch command as suggested somewhere, but it does not seem to work. Following is the message. • Ubuntu hangs after replugging the modem

  I am facing this issue on Ubuntu 12.04, which is for my Wimax modem with beceem chipset. If I replug the device Ubuntu goes in hang state. Its happens very often. If I plug the USB and restart it works most of the time. But it is very annoying to restart every time it hangs. The modem works smoothly in Windows 7. And it used to work OK in Ubuntu 11.10.   I've already search for similar problems but they are so different from mine. these are the drivers http://db.tt/qFZlD5JD I'm having problem with this Additional Drivers once I click the Activate button it will start in downloading and installing but after that it will say Installation failed. Then the "Enable Wireless" will not be available. With the Software Modem issue is the same problem with the Broadcom. These drivers are working on Ubuntu 9 and 11 if I'm not mistaken. Only on 12.04 is not working. One more thing these drivers will enable the Huawei E165g E220. I've already tried other solution for the Huawei to activate but all didn't work. After a restart Enable wireless becomes okay, though. To all Ubuntu experts and masters please I'm begging for help. A million Thank You!.

  I have ADSL2 Modem which I got from my service provider, now I want to setup wireless(Wi-Fi) in my home. I went to shop, where I came to know that there are routers which come up with modem also but they are priced lil higher than the only wi-fi routers. Now it is obvious that I should go for only wi-fi one, as I already have modem. My question is, is there any difference between ADSL+router and only router? I think if I use ADSL+router, the speed will increase lilbit, as modem does modulate and demodulate signals, and router also generates wireless signal, that is time to take conversions is doubled, and if I use ADSL+modem, it will directly convert the signals to wireless, and time will be saved, so the overall speed will increase lilbit. This is what my concept is(Which might be wrong). What do you guys would suggest me? should I take my current modem away and buy an ADSL+router or I should keep my modem and buy only wi-fi one. Please tell me the difference and suggest me which one I should go with, and also suggest me which company router I should go for.

  I am planning to buy TP-LINK ADSL wifi router (model TD-W8151N) for my Internet connection which provides Internet through ADSL telephone line. I am also planning to take cable internet in a few months which provides internet through a LAN cable without the need of any modem. So I would like to have my modem work for both connections which I am using. When using cable internet I want this TP-Link modem to work just as a wireless router (so that I can have the freedom to use my laptop in different rooms instead of sitting at a place by plugging in that cable). Is it possible to use this modem in that way? I don't have much knowledge about these things except that I can configure things as instructed. Please suggest me whether I should go ahead and buy this one or if there is any other modem in your view which can serve both my purposes, let me know. Operating System I am using: Windows 7

• Modem doesn't seem to pass internet connection to router

  I was supplied a Cisco DPC3825 modem by my ISP and use a Cisco E4200 as my main router. Today the Internet just stopped working, just out of the blue, I can't think of anything that would have triggered it. It's been working pretty good for the past month except for a few random blips here and there. After some trouble shooting I realized that a direct wired connection to the modem would get me Internet access but if I was wired to the router as I was before I would have no connection. Assuming it was router I connected a TP-Link WR841N but it had the exact same problem. Also, connecting to the router via Wi-Fi from multiple devices will connect me to the router but I still can't get access to the Internet. From these test, it seems that the modem just won't send Internet through to the router but is clearly connecting and able to directly connect to my PC. What I've Tried A full reset and factory reset on the E4200 A full reset on the modem (but I believe my ISP has remote access to the modem because the passwords and so on are always set back). My ISP has remotely reconfigured the modem What I Should Try What else can I try? What should I do to try to narrow down the issue? Can you figure out what the problem might be based on this information?
