• Broadcom bluetooth driver for Windows 7 on MacBook Pro

  I have installed Windows 7 on MacBook Pro using BootCamp. Usually when turning my Bluetooth headset on and trying to pair it with Mac for the first time, Windows would fail to install drivers and open solution in Action Center, which suggests to download the driver from the Broadcom webpage. This worked before and drivers would install and work. However now, when I start driver installer, it would get stuck at "Detecting Bluetooth Device" stage. Below the steps there is also a warning with text, which says "Please plug in or turn ob your Bluetooth device". This is how the installer looks like when it's stuck: I have tried turning my headset on/off, bringing it into pairing mode, installing/uninstalling device to/from the Bluetooth Devices. None of these worked. Any ideas?

• Eliminating "phantom" or "ghost" clicks on my Mac Pro

  Recently on my Mac Pro I have been experiencing phantom clicks and other strange behaviors. I have been rummaging through my system preferences to try and root out possible causes, and recently came across a strange finding in the Exposé panel (the keyboard modifiers are there from my taking the screenshot): I have had a Logitech 2-button mouse with a mouse wheel for years, and have never had a problem with it in the past. In addition I am running OS X 10.6.8 and have not had any issues like this up to this point. Is this a known issue? Is the extensive mouse listing a red herring? Are there any fixes for either issue?

• Create an image of a pure Ubuntu-Installation on Macbook Pro

  I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 on my Macbook Pro (Late 2009) as the only operating system, so theres's no Mac OS X oder Bootcamp installed. It runs fine and now i'd like to create an image of the current installation. Unfortunately my Acronis True Image cd doesn't boot on this device and my attempts to create an image with partimage or dd from a bootable ubuntu live cd to a external hd failed ("can't read from block 0"). Are there any others out there with such an installation and if yes: how did you succeed in imaging your partition/device?

• MacBook Pro screen goes dark

  I've had my MacBook Pro for two years now; no problems so far (it has had 3rd party RAM from the get go). Today, I'm copying a particularly large VM from an External disk drive to local MacBook disk. It has about 3GB to go and I take off to do some other things and when I come back my screen is "dark". The computer is still on but I can't see anything. I forced a reboot by holding down the power button, it starts up with the "chimes", but still no screen. I've done this several times. Any ideas? Do you think the hard disk activity caused it to get too hot?

• Time Machine does not recognize my MacBook Pro

  Due to a clicking and beeping problem on my Macbook Pro (MBP), I got a 1 to 1 replacement from Apple which arrived today. I was able to my original setting using Time Machine restore. That works great. But after the restore and software update, the click on Time Machine to back up. But it says it doesn't recognize the backups. Now I am doing a full backup again that will take me a better of an hour. So what's the problem? How come Time Machine does not recognise the backups it restore from?

  I am trying to connect my ASUS VH242H (1920x1020), with my Macbook Pro. The laptop has a 320m nvidia and it should be more than enough to support an external display. I had my old laptop connected, (with a 9600mgt) and it worked fine.I am not mirroring the display I just want an extension ( if possible only the external display diplaying). • MacBook Pro Trackpad freeze / holds click on its own

  My MacBook Pro's Trackpad shows an annoying behavior in the last few days. I think the only relevant thing that changed is the firmware for the Trackpad. An update has been distributed via Software Update a few days ago. Sometimes when i click somewhere the Trackpad won't recognize the mouseup, i.e. hold the click on its own. Clicking again seems to stop the holding and issue a new mousedown, but then again, no mouseup I.e. when i click on a file on the desktop the file will be dragged. But i can't stop dragging! Clicking in a browser or text document will select the text/images. Did anyone notice similar behavior? Any ideas or fixes?

• Can't access files on external drive after reformatting Macbook Pro

  I recently had to reformat my Macbook Pro, and imported my account and settings from Time Machine via the Migration Assistant. Everything on the Mac itself is fine, but now I don't have permission to access almost everything on my external drive. A number of folders have the little red 'no access' sign on them and I can't rename or move anything. Looking at the info for these files, it appears that access rights were attached only to my old user account. Is there some way to reassign these files and folders to my new user account? Thanks.

• No recent docs listed in Office 2007 on Windows XP Pro

  Hi, I have Office 2007 installed on a laptop running Windows XP Pro. When I go to open a file in Excel or Word, there is no list of recent documents. On the Options/Advanced page, the "show this number of recent documents" spinner displays 0 but is grayed out so I can't change it. The help page it directs me to describes how to disable the list, but not how to enable it. In Word, it says something about the list being disallowed by Group Policy, but I am not part of any workgroup and, as far as I know, the policies are all uninitialized, so it should be allowed by default. There are recent files listed in MRU keys in the registry. A similar question has been answered, but I believe that only applies to Windows Vista or 7 because the folder mentioned doesn't exist on my system. Instead, the folder "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\Recent" contains shortcuts to recent docs for both Excel and Word. Any other ideas? Thanks.

  I've got a Samsung Omnia Pro B7330, and am unable to run any program for .net compact framework on it. My last three Smartphones had been HTC brand, and all the programs I tried are just simple winform apps, which ran on all HTC phones. But not on the Omnia. • Raid recovery in gigabyte GA-8I945 Pro

  This was a working machine until a few days ago. And now it won't boot into the OS, during startup if makes clicking sounds (I think from one of the drives). Installed OS: Windows 2003 Web edition Hardware: Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro , 2*160G Sata in RAID1 configuration , 2 Volumes – 25G and the rest. When I installed windows on it, during setup, I pressed F6 and used ICH7DH drivers of RAID. The manual for the MOBO says: Step 1: After the POST memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins, look for a message which says "Press to enter Configuration utility" (Figure 4). Press CTRL+ I to enter the RAID BIOS setup utility. But the machine never shows this message. BIOS SATA RAID/AHCI Mode is set to RAID. Any ideas or pointers on what I can do to recover my data? • Trouble with external monitor under Windows 7 on MacBook Pro Boot Camp

  I'm running Windows 7 32-bit on a mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core i5 under Boot Camp. I've had trouble getting it to work with my second display and searching Google for an appropriate answer has failed me. I'm on the latest version of Boot Camp - 3.2 - and have updated the drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. The monitor is connected via a VGA cable, and is a Dell ST2410. The monitor is recognised by Windows, which knows it's a Dell and its resolution. The desktop should be extended onto the second monitor - however nothing is showing. It remains black, though it doesn't show a lack of signal coming through which I would have expected. Any ideas what's wrong?

  So I've got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13". Integrated GPU so not a games machine but fast enough for doing .Net development in VMs. I love the little thing and wanted to give it a Christmas present so thought I'd mod it up a bit and give it a boost. I'm thinking of swapping out the stock 5400rpm HD with a faster hybrid drive (has 4GB RAM and spins at 7200rpm) but was wondering if any of you had tried or knew of anything else I could change/upgrade/mod to squeeze more out of my laptop. • Moving tool bars in Acrobat X Pro

  I'm using Acrobat X pro for Windows. I found that two lines of tool bar takes too much space. So I would like to combine them into one line, or move them to left or right side. I do know that I can hide those tool bars by Ctrl+H. But I want to use them without hiding. Since most documents I use are letter size and portrait type, tool bars on the left or right side would be much more efficient way of using space. Does anybody know how I can do this? (I think I could do it in Acrobat 9..but I can't in X version)

  I'm setting up a new PC with the Windows 7 Pro. After some actions (software installing, config changes, applying updates ), my login screen looks like the PC is connected to the domain: I have checked the settings and everywhere the "workgroup" is checked. I have been googling for three hours trying some solutions (Control UserPasswords2, regedit and the ".DEFAULT" key) but nothing works. I cannot see the user icons - only the login screen as above. I cannot also change the account icon. Has anybody seen such an issue?

• Windows 7 Pro x64 suffering from insomnia

  My Win 7 Pro x64 is unable to enter sleep mode. Pressing the sleep button results in strange state where the computer starts entering the sleep mode, the display is turned off but then the whole process stops, it does not switch off the hdd, the keyboard still responds to numlock/capslock, but the display does not on anymore. I have to cut power and restart. If I remove everything (wireless mouse, external hdd, usb hub, etc.) it does enter sleep mode, but if there is something left, it does not, though every one of them has "Allow the computer to turn off this device..." checked and "Allow this device to wake the computer" unchecked. Why does it not work? It was working properly in the RC.

• Win XP Pro, IIS 5.1, PCI Compliance

  I have a client that was scanned and determined not to be PCI Compliant. I looked and they had IIS setup to allow a program from central office to push/pull info from their server. Many of the reasons they failed appeared to have been fixed in SPs (they were on SP2) or security updates. I fully patched the server to (Windows XP Pro) SP3 with all optional updates. I had them scan again and again they failed with only one less vulnerability that I manually corrected (server was showing debugging/error messages). The main issue I'm having is that when I research the CVE code for each error, they say they are fixed in SP2 and up. I'm wondering if I need to remove IIS and resetup since I have patched to SP3. Any ideas?

  I am trying to install a dual boot with windows 7 premium and windows 8 Pro on an XPS 8500 special edition. I created a new primary partition on my C: drive, inserted the windows 8 install disk, and rebooted my computer from DVD. I select custom install and the dialog box saying where do you want to install windows at? pops up but none of my drives are listed. Please help me determine what is going on? I don't understand why none of my drives are showing up on this menu. Not even the original drive. When I go to load driver and click on the partition I created it tells me "No signed device drivers were found. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."

UPDATE I've found this: "isohybrid" CD images (..) are special in that as well as the normal CD-based ISO9660 filesystem they also contain a valid-looking DOS-style partition table. Thus, if you simply copy one of these images raw to a USB stick a normal PC BIOS will boot the image directly. (...) • Equalizer for Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop (Windows 7) (has Realtek sound)

  Hi, I've been trying to find a way to have a real equalizer for my Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop. I don't know much about computers but the guys in the store seem to know less than I do! From what I've been able to glean through friends, Windows 7 no longer supports a real equalizer function with Realtek, and the result is a fake "equalizer" that does nothing. I have hearing issues so not being able properly adjust the higher frequencies is causing me physical pain and ringing in my ears. I've tried to decipher the threads I find online but am quite confused by them. Basically I need an equalizer that will work with Windows 7 (with everything, internet, skype, music, etc). The current drivers offered by Realtek do nothing except make the sound inaudible. The one that may possibly work and provide an actual equalizer is a few versions back and can't be found anywhere.   Steps: Open IE on the desktop. Observe that home page opened. Click around (or not) and observe IE works. Either type ctrl-t or click on the new tab area next to current tab. Observe no new tab opens and the current page is now blank. At this point IE is inoperable and requires a restart. It seems to work fine in the Metro interface.   I bought a Lenovo 430K with Windows 7 Home Premium and upgraded it to Windows 8 Pro. I created a DVD from which I installed the Windows 8 Pro upgrade. I'm underwhelmed with Windows 8, however. I want to install Linux as the host OS and run Windows 8 Pro as a guest OS. Will the Windows 8 Pro DVD that I created install Windows 8 Pro in a virtual machine, or would that virtual machine have to have Windows 7 installed first in order to install the upgrade?
