So a select on this single field from to rows will output 3 lines for first row and 2 lines for second row: Row1 designationer nye kolonier mindre byer Row2 udsteder bopladser I would like to do a select that select all these lines as if they had been rows in the table like: SELECT do_the_split(field) FROM table so the result would be more like: Row1 designationer Row2 nye kolonier Row3 mindre byer Row4 udsteder Row5 bopladser is there any way to do this in MySQL? • Optimal storage of data structure for fast lookup and persistence

  Scenario I have the following methods: public void AddItemSecurity(int itemId, int[] userIds) public int[] GetValidItemIds(int userId) Initially I'm thinking storage on the form: itemId -> userId, userId, userId and userId -> itemId, itemId, itemId AddItemSecurity is based on how I get data from a third party API, GetValidItemIds is how I want to use it at runtime. There are potentially 2000 users and 10 million items. Item id's are on the form: 2007123456, 2010001234 (10 digits where first four represent the year). AddItemSecurity does not have to perform super fast, but GetValidIds needs to be subsecond. Also, if there is an update on an existing itemId I need to remove that itemId for users no longer in the list. I'm trying to think about how I should store this in an optimal fashion. Preferably on disk (with caching), but I want the code maintainable and clean. If the item id's had started at 0, I thought about creating a byte array the length of MaxItemId / 8 for each user, and set a true/false bit if the item was present or not. That would limit the array length to little over 1mb per user and give fast lookups as well as an easy way to update the list per user. By persisting this as Memory Mapped Files with the .Net 4 framework I think I would get decent caching as well (if the machine has enough RAM) without implementing caching logic myself. Parsing the id, stripping out the year, and store an array per year could be a solution. The ItemId - UserId[] list can be serialized directly to disk and read/write with a normal FileStream in order to persist the list and diff it when there are changes. Each time a new user is added all the lists have to updated as well, but this can be done nightly. Question Should I continue to try out this approach, or are there other paths which should be explored as well? I'm thinking SQL server will not perform fast enough, and it would give an overhead (at least if it's hosted on a different server), but my assumptions might be wrong. Any thought or insights on the matter is appreciated. And I want to try to solve it without adding too much hardware :) [Update 2010-03-31] I have now tested with SQL server 2008 under the following conditions. Table with two columns (userid,itemid) both are Int Clustered index on the two columns Added ~800.000 items for 180 users - Total of 144 million rows Allocated 4gb ram for SQL server Dual Core 2.66ghz laptop SSD disk Use a SqlDataReader to read all itemid's into a List Loop over all users If I run one thread it averages on 0.2 seconds. When I add a second thread it goes up to 0.4 seconds, which is still ok. From there on the results are decreasing. Adding a third thread brings alot of the queries up to 2 seonds. A forth thread, up to 4 seconds, a fifth spikes some of the queries up to 50 seconds. The CPU is roofing while this is going on, even on one thread. My test app takes some due to the speedy loop, and sql the rest. Which leads me to the conclusion that it won't scale very well. At least not on my tested hardware. Are there ways to optimize the database, say storing an array of int's per user instead of one record per item. But this makes it harder to remove items.

• I need an abstract field !

  I know abstract fields do not exist in java. I also read this question but the solutions proposed won't solve my problem. Maybe there is no solution, but it's worth asking :) Problem I have an abstract class that does an operation in the constructor depending on the value of one of its fields. The problem is that the value of this field will change depending on the subclass. How can I do so that the operation is done on the value of the field redefined by the subclass ? If I just "override" the field in the subclass the operation is done on the value of the field in the abstract class. I'm open to any solution that would ensure that the operation will be done during the instantiation of the subclass (ie putting the operation in a method called by each subclass in the constructor is not a valid solution, because someone might extend the abstract class and forget to call the method). Also, I don't want to give the value of the field as an argument of the constructor. Is there any solution to do that, or should I just change my design ?

  Ok, I wanting to database a small library. I've only had limmited experience with databeses, and vnone with queerying a websever. I'm going to want to retrieve information like title, Publisher, maybe author, desciption the simplest way i can think of dooing this is looking them up via the isbn. I'm wondering how I should go about doing this. I've coma across isbndb.com before, but the api for accessing it seems rather complex.

  Hello, I would like to achive the same functinoanlity in the UUTextField control as Google search web site (which uses Ajax for this): as user start typing, list of suggestion searches is shown. Then more letteres you type, suggestion list changes. So imaging I have array of words: Apple Abc Aman As user types A, all thress suggesions are shown, if user type one more letter p, then Apple is suggested. How would I do something like this? Mail type of applicatins do it, when receipent name is typed in the To: edit control I guess I can use UITableView with the search, is it correct approach?

  I added a new query to a table adapter in a DataSet. This query adds another field to the query whcih is a sum from another table. Here is the full query: SELECT (SELECT COUNT(donationID) AS Expr1 FROM Donations AS da WHERE (dn.donorID = donorID)) AS Count, Solicitor, address1, address2, city, companyName, country, donorID, email, first, last, phoneHome, phoneMobile, phoneWork, state, webURL, zip, (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations FROM Donors AS dn order by last The new field is represented in the last part of the query: (select sum(amount) from Donations as dna where dna.donorID = dn.donorID) as SumDonations I can preview the data in the xsd but the last field "SumDonations" is not showing up as a field I can add to my gridview. I rebuilt the website but no luck. What am I missing?

  Hi everyone, is it possible to change external class field accesses in Java to getter / setter calls automatically, and also hide the exposed fields? I'm using Javabeans and I want change notifications when a field property changes (this is important). I've found cglib which can automatically insert the property change call to the PropertyChangeSupport field. I'd like this question to be a discussion of the issues posed and their solutions. I know about Project Lombok, but this appears to modify the source code, and additionally doesn't support field access modification. How can I make this text entry field to be uneditable. Actually I want to have only the possibility to choose the date from calendar and not to change it manually. TextItem textItem = new TextItem(); textItem.setAttribute("readOnly", true); date.setAttribute("textFieldProperties", textItem); Related link But I have now another issue: The date chooser won't show the date on the text field but Today's date. For example, enter 30/05/2009 on the text field, go to another field, then come back on click on the date chooser and the selected day will be Today's date instead on June 30th, 2009. Which is the reason for this? Can this be solved? Also let's say I let to the user to opportunity to manually modify the date - can I put some validators on it? Thank you.

  In the OpenSocial Data specificaiton 1.0 for a Person object (social profile data) it includes the use of a generic called Plural-Field. The spec can be found at: http://opensocial-resources.googlecode.com/svn/spec/1.0/Social-Data.xml#Person In the 1.0 data specification there is no XSD and no examples showing the use of this generic Plural-Field. After puzzeling the spec for some time I think I might understand the user of this generic. I was hoping that someone could confirm or correct my understanding. For example the accounts field is a generic Plural-Field<Account> while the activities field is Plural-Field <string>. • PDF Form Field Manipulation

  I'm making a web interface to autofill pdf forms with user data from a database. The admin needs to be able to upload a pdf (right now targeted at IRS pdf forms) and then associate the fields in the pdf with data fields in the database. I need a way to help the admin associate the field names (stuff like "topmostSubform[0].Page2[0].p2-t66[0]") with the the data fields in the database. I'm looking for a way to modify the PDF programatically to in some way provide this information. Basically I'm open to suggestions on how I might make the field names appear in an obvious manner on a modified version of the original pdf. The closest I've gotten is being able to insert Tooltips into the fields in the pdf by just editting the raw pdf line by line. However when editting the pdf in this manner the field names are gibberish, and so I can't just use them. An optimal solution would be anything that could automatically parse a pdf and set each field's tooltip to be the fields name. Anything that can be run from the command line, or any python tool, or just a basic how to correctly parse a field's name from a raw pdf file would be amazing.

I mean, for example, making j_username and j_password fields in the authentication form equal previous to the authentication. I read it was possible to define j_username field in Config.groovy with acegi plugin, in older versions of the plugin. This is the way I do it usually: unwanted_instance = Mymodel.objects.get(pk=bad_luck_number) uninteresting_stuff_happens() my_results = MyModel.objects.exclude(id=unwanted_instance.id) or, if I have more of them: my_results = MyModel.objects.exclude(id_in=[uw_in1.id, uw_in2.id, uw_in3.id]) This 'feels' a bit clunky, so I tried if I was lucky: my_ideally_obtained_results = MyModel.objects.exclude(unwanted_instance) Which doesn't work. But I read here on SO that a subquery can be used as parameter for exclude. Am I out of luck? Am I missing some functionality (checked the docs, but didn't find any useful pointer)

The problem here is if the user will paste on the text field with non numeric characters. Is there a way/method to disable pasting if the value is non-numeric? I'm looking for the list to be sorted by the first field and then if there are any duplicates in the first field to sort by the second field.   hello, I want to bind an input field to the jquery-ui slider handle. So whenever one value changes I want the other value to also change. Ex: if someone types 1000 into the minimum value input field I want the lower slider handle to move to the 1000 mark. Also if the user drags the lower slider handle to 1000 the input field should reflect that. In VFP 7 I can use: SELECT a.balance ,MAX(a.created) FROM MyTable a WHERE a.meternumber = '2743876' But, in the VFP v8.0 OleDb driver I am using in my ASP.NET page I must conform to VFP 8 which says you must have a GROUP BY listing each non aggregate field listed in the SELECT. This would return a record for each balance if I added GROUP BY a.balance to my query. Yes, I could issue a SET ENGINEBEHAVIOR 70 but I wanted to know if this could be done without having to revert to a previous version?

• Active Directory lookup works in IE but fails in FireFox

  I'm using IIS 5.1 on my local dev machine and I have changed IIS to run using my domain account and configured ASP.NET with impersonate = true. I am able to query my local AD to get information perfectly fine using IE (IE 7.0) but when I use FireFox (3.6.3) it fails with a really un-helpful COM error. I was wondering if anyone else had come across this and knows how to fix this?

  Hay, I'm working on a simple voting system, where users can vote on a poll. My model looks like this class Poll(models.Model): question = models.CharField() votes = models.IntegerField() usersVoted = models.ManyToManyField(User) Now, i want to scan through the usersVoted field to see if a User object is in there. This User object will then be matched against a logged in User (User obj saved in a session). If the User has voted i want to be able to set a 'has_voted' field. I then want to use this field in my view. I will be using the Property() thingy inside the model to work this 'has_voted' value out. Like so def _can_vote(self): return False can_vote = property(_can_vote) Obviously it'll return a Bool. Any ideas how to search through a related field to find a specific Object?
