  • IE8 developer tools missing some styles

    - by Craig Warren
    Hi, I'm having some problems with some CSS properties in IE8. I've tested my site in IE7, Chrome and Firefox and they work fine but IE8 is having some layout issues. I inspect the developer tool option on ie8 and I've noticed that some of the properties I set in CSS are being ignored by ie8. For example: #header { position: relative; padding: 20px; height: 100px; background:url(header.png); } In this header IE8 ignored the height property: If I inspect the element in developer tools it is missing that property and it's crushed into another line: background:url;HEIGHT: 100PX The same thing happens for floats too: #logon { float: left; text-align:right; width:20%; height: 40px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right:7px; border:0; margin:0; background: url(navgradient.gif); } This ignores the float value: background: url(navgradient.gif); FLOAT:left; What is happening here and how can I fix it?

  • Reset.css and then a Set.css

    - by Sixfoot Studio
    I have, for a while now been using a reset.css file to reset everything before I start laying out my html designs. The reset is great in that it allows one to better control attributes such as margins, padding, line-height etc for all browsers. In essence the flatliner of css files. Now to get the heart beating again, I need a "set.css" file. So what I have done is created an Html file with all the possible elements on the page to then go and set the padding, margins etc of the h1, h2, p, td etc. I need some help with this as I am not sure what the defaults normally are. I had a look at the Firefox default css file that's used to generate all these attributes on a raw html file but it doesn't cover all the scenarios I could come up with when developing a site. Here's an example of the set.html file (a work in progress) which can be used as a lorem ipsum filler to add to your first page in a cms and then to style with a "set.css" file http://www.sixfoot.co.za/labs/Html-Css/set.html I'd appreciate it if someone knows if something like a set.css file exists or if someone could tell me what the general padding and margins are in cases like this when you have reset the css. Cheers, James

  • CSS class not being used on list item with styling

    - by scatteredbomb
    I have a list item thats styled based on the div container it's in. I want to add a "selected" class to that item, but it's not changing the styling. Firebug doesn't show it inhereting any styles from that css style. You'll see I'm adding class="columnTabSelected" to the first tab, but that's not changing anything. Here's a screenshot from Firebug to show that style isn't being added to the element. http://i49.tinypic.com/oszfqh.jpg What am i missing? My html <div id="columnNewsTabs"> <ul> <li id="recentHeadlinesLink" onclick="columnNews('recentHeadlines')" class="columnTabSelected">Recent</li> <li id="recentCommentstLink" onclick="columnNews('recentComments')">Comments</li> <li id="popularHeadlinesLink" onclick="columnNews('popularHeadlines')">Popular</li> </ul> </div> My CSS #columnNewsTabs { overflow:auto; } #columnNewsTabs ul { list-style:none; margin:0px; padding-left:0px; } #columnNewsTabs li { float:left; margin-right:2px; font-family:Tahoma; font-weight:bold; padding: 5px; border:1px solid #ccc; border-bottom:none; } #columnNewsTabs li:hover { float:left; margin-right:2px; color:black; font-family:Tahoma; font-weight:bold; padding: 5px border:1px solid #ccc; border-bottom:none; background:#ccc; } #columnTabSelected { background: #CCCCCC !important; }

  • Table is centering by itself?

    - by user146780
    I have a page here: http://animactions.ca/Animactions/accueil.php and it has a right column. When the right column's content is longer than then the main content, the main content centers rather than start at the top despite I defining it in a style not to do so. From my style sheet: .tbsyles { margin: 0px; text-align: justify; width: 200px; border-left-style: solid; border-left-width: 1px; border-left-color: #A8CFE4; padding-left: 30px; height: 100%; line-height: 100%; vertical-align: top; padding-right: 0px; } .tablestylea { width: 900px; margin: 0px; text-align: justify; height: 100%; line-height: 100%; vertical-align: top; padding-right: 0px; } How can I make it so no matter what the length of my right col content the main content page resizes correctly and starts from the top rather than from the center? Thanks

  • Jquery insertAfter() doesn't seem to work for me...

    - by Pandiya Chendur
    I have created a parent div and inserted div's after the parent div using jquery insertAfter() method.... What happens is My first record goes to the bottom and next record gets inserted above it.... Here is my function... function Iteratejsondata(HfJsonValue) { var jsonObj = eval('(' + HfJsonValue + ')'); for (var i = 0, len = jsonObj.Table.length; i < len; ++i) { var employee = jsonObj.Table[i]; $('<div class="resultsdiv"><br /><span id="EmployeeName" style="font-size:125%;font-weight:bolder;">' + employee.Emp_Name + '</span><span style="font-size:100%;font-weight:bolder;padding-left:100px;">Category&nbsp;:</span>&nbsp;<span>' + employee.Desig_Name + '</span><br /><br /><span id="SalaryBasis" style="font-size:100%;font-weight:bolder;">Salary Basis&nbsp;:</span>&nbsp;<span>' + employee.SalaryBasis + '</span><span style="font-size:100%;font-weight:bolder;padding-left:25px;">Salary&nbsp;:</span>&nbsp;<span>' + employee.FixedSalary + '</span><span style="font-size:100%;font-weight:bolder;padding-left:25px;">Address&nbsp;:</span>&nbsp;<span>' + employee.Address + '</span></div>').insertAfter('#ResultsDiv'); } } And my result is, Palani must be next to my parent div but it is at the bottom... Because insertAfter() inserts every record next to the #ResultsDiv ... Any suggestion how to insertafter the newly generated div...

  • Absolute positioned div jumps outside containing div in IE7

    - by user367232
    Having trouble with a couple of display issues in IE7. Firstly, my large text headers display too far up in Internet Explorer (all pages) Secondly, my descriptions on my Portfolio pages end up outside their containing divs. Works great on FF/Chrome/Opera/Safari though! You'll see what I mean: http://bit.ly/a3hUD4 (I've used bitly so my dumb questions don't show up when someone googles my website). I've googled extensively. Not sure if problem number 2 is a overflow issue, or a absolute positioning bug in IE. Here's the CSS for the centre div with the jumbo-text titles .column1 { padding: 103px 10px 10px 10px; float: left; width: 500px; margin: 0; } And for the description div on the portfolio page .porttxtbox { text-align: right; background-image: url(images/porttxtBG.png); bottom: 0; position: absolute; width: 100%; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; } And it's container div .portimgbox { padding: 0px; margin: 0px; height: 250px; width: 480px; position: relative; border: 5px solid #EAEAEA; Thanks in advance!

    I can get a 100% height div, like this: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html lang="en"> <head> <title>T5</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> <style type="text/css"> * { padding: 0; margin: 0; } html, body { height: 100%; } body { font-family: "lucida sans", verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 75%; } h1 { font-size: 1.4em; padding: 10px 10px 0; } p { padding: 0 10px 1em; } #container { min-height: 100%; background-color: #DDD; border-left: 2px solid #666; border-right: 2px solid #666; width: 280px; margin: 0 auto; } * html #container { height: 100%; }</style> </head> <body> <div id="container"> <h1>100% Height Div</h1> <p>Lorem...</p> <p>Ut ...</p> </div> </body> </html> But is it possible to get a div with a height of "almost 100%" height?   • Can't find solution for CSS vertical align for Firefox

    - by Sergio
    I have a problem with DIV vertical align in Firefox The HTML code is: <div class="mess"><div class="rpl"><img src="img/16.png" width="16" height="16" border="0"></div><div class="pic"><img src="img/1.png" width="100" height="100" border="0"></div></div> The CSS looks like: .mess{ float:left; width:658px; border-top:1px solid #CCC;padding-top:5px; } .rpl{ position: relative;width:19px; float:left;top: 20%;display: table-cell; vertical- align: middle; padding-top:20px; } .pic{width:100px; float:left; padding-bottom:5px;margin-right:10px; } I'm trying to put "rpl" DIV at the vertical middle of the "mess" DIV. In IE it looks fine but I can't get it right in Firefox (always at the top of the "mess" div) I tried with display: inline,display: table-cell for "rpl" DIV but with no effect in FF. Is there any solution for vertical align for DIV in FF?

  • How to Use Images as Navigation with innerfade Slideshow?

    - by Katie
    I am very new to JavaScript and only have the most basic understanding of how it works, so please bear with me. :) I'm using the jquery.innerfade.js script to create a slideshow with fade transitions for a website I'm developing, and I have added navigation buttons (which are set as background-images) that navigate between the “slides”. The navigation buttons have three states: default/off, hover, and on (each state is a separate image). I created a separate JavaScript document to set the buttons to “on” when they are clicked. The “hover” state is achieved through the CSS. Both the slideshow and the navigation buttons work well. There is just one thing I want to add: I would like the appropriate navigation button to display as “on” while the related “slide” is “playing”. Here's the HTML: <div id="mainFeature"> <ul id="theFeature"> <li id="the1feature"><a href="#" name="#promo1"><img src="_images/carousel/promo1.jpg" /></a></li> <li id="the2feature"><a href="#" name="#promo2"><img src="_images/carousel/promo2.jpg" /></a></li> <li id="the3feature"><a href="#" name="#promo3"><img src="_images/carousel/promo3.jpg" /></a></li> </ul> <div id="promonav-con"> <div id="primarypromonav"> <ul class="links"> <li id="the1title" class="promotop"><a rel="1" href="#promo1" class="promo1" id="promo1" onMouseDown="promo1on()"><strong>Botox Cosmetic</strong></a></li> <li id="the2title" class="promotop"><a rel="2" href="#promo2" class="promo2" id="promo2" onMouseDown="promo2on()"><strong>Promo 2</strong></a></li> <li id="the3title" class="promotop"><a rel="3" href="#promo3" class="promo3" id="promo3" onMouseDown="promo3on()"><strong>Promo 3</strong></a></li> </ul> </div> </div> And here is the jquery.innerfade.js, with my changes: (function($) { $.fn.innerfade = function(options) { return this.each(function() { $.innerfade(this, options); }); }; $.innerfade = function(container, options) { var settings = { 'speed': 'normal', 'timeout': 2000, 'containerheight': 'auto', 'runningclass': 'innerfade', 'children': null }; if (options) $.extend(settings, options); if (settings.children === null) var elements = $(container).children(); else var elements = $(container).children(settings.children); if (elements.length > 1) { $(container).css('position', 'relative').css('height', settings.containerheight).addClass(settings.runningclass); for (var i = 0; i < elements.length; i++) { $(elements[i]).css('z-index', String(elements.length-i)).css('position', 'absolute').hide(); }; this.ifchanger = setTimeout(function() { $.innerfade.next(elements, settings, 1, 0); }, settings.timeout); $(elements[0]).show(); } }; $.innerfade.next = function(elements, settings, current, last) { $(elements[last]).fadeOut(settings.speed); $(elements[current]).fadeIn(settings.speed, function() { removeFilter($(this)[0]); }); if ((current + 1) < elements.length) { current = current + 1; last = current - 1; } else { current = 0; last = elements.length - 1; } this.ifchanger = setTimeout((function() { $.innerfade.next(elements, settings, current, last); }), settings.timeout); }; })(jQuery); // **** remove Opacity-Filter in ie **** function removeFilter(element) { if(element.style.removeAttribute){ element.style.removeAttribute('filter'); } } jQuery(document).ready(function() { jQuery('ul#theFeature').innerfade({ speed: 1000, timeout: 7000, containerheight: '291px' }); // jQuery('#mainFeature .links').children('li').children('a').attr('href', 'javascript:void(0);'); jQuery('#mainFeature .links').children('li').children('a').click(function() { clearTimeout(jQuery.innerfade.ifchanger); for(i=1;i<5;i++) { jQuery('#the'+i+'feature').css("display", "none"); //jQuery('#the'+i+'title').children('a').css("background-color","#226478"); } // if(the_widths[(jQuery(this).attr('rel')-1)]==960) { // jQuery("#vic").hide(); // } else { // jQuery("#vic").show(); // } // jQuery('#the'+(jQuery(this).attr('rel'))+'title').css("background-color", "#286a7f"); jQuery('#the'+(jQuery(this).attr('rel'))+'feature').css("display", "block"); clearTimeout(jQuery.innerfade.ifchanger); }); }); And the separate JavaScript that I created: function promo1on() {document.getElementById("promo1").className="promo1on"; document.getElementById("promo2").className="promo2"; document.getElementById("promo2").className="promo2"; } function promo2on() {document.getElementById("promo2").className="promo2on"; document.getElementById("promo1").className="promo1"; document.getElementById("promo3").className="promo3"; } function promo3on() {document.getElementById("promo3").className="promo3on"; document.getElementById("promo1").className="promo1"; document.getElementById("promo2").className="promo2"; } And, finally, the CSS: #mainFeature {float: left; width: 672px; height: 290px; margin: 0 0 9px 0; list-style: none;} #mainFeature li {list-style: none;} #mainFeature #theFeature {margin: 0; padding: 0; position: relative;} #mainFeature #theFeature li {position: absolute; margin: 0; list-style: none; position: relative; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; width: 463px; height: 26px;} #mainFeature .links li.promotop {list-style: none; display: block; float: left; display: inline;   • How do I read binary C++ protobuf data using Python protobuf?

    - by nbolton
    The Python version of Google protobuf gives us only: SerializeAsString() Where as the C++ version gives us both: SerializeToArray(...) SerializeAsString() We're writing to our C++ file in binary format, and we'd like to keep it this way. That said, is there a way of reading the binary data into Python and parsing it as if it were a string? Is this the correct way of doing it? binary = get_binary_data() binary_size = get_binary_size() string = None for i in range(len(binary_size)): string += i message = new MyMessage() message.ParseFromString(string) Update: Here's a new example, and a problem: message_length = 512 file = open('foobars.bin', 'rb') eof = False while not eof: data = file.read(message_length) eof = not data if not eof: foo_bar = FooBar() foo_bar.ParseFromString(data) When we get to the foo_bar.ParseFromString(data) line, I get this error: Exception Type: DecodeError Exception Value: Too many bytes when decoding varint. Update 2: It turns out, that the padding on the binary data was throwing protobuf off; too many bytes were being sent in, as the message suggests (in this case it was referring to the padding). This padding comes from using the C++ protobuf function, SerializeToArray on a fixed-length buffer. To eliminate this, I have used this temproary code: message_length = 512 file = open('foobars.bin', 'rb') eof = False while not eof: data = file.read(message_length) eof = not data string = '' for i in range(0, len(data)): byte = data[i] if byte != '\xcc': # yuck! string += data[i] if not eof: foo_bar = FooBar() foo_bar.ParseFromString(string) There is a design flaw here I think. I will re-implement my C++ code so that it writes variable length arrays to the binary file. As advised by the protobuf documentation, I will prefix each message with it's binary size so that I know how much to read when I'm opening the file with Python.

For part of a project I'm working on I am implementing a RTPpacket where I have to fill the header array of byte with RTP header fields. //size of the RTP header: static int HEADER_SIZE = 12; // bytes //Fields that compose the RTP header public int Version; // 2 bits public int Padding; // 1 bit public int Extension; // 1 bit public int CC; // 4 bits public int Marker; // 1 bit public int PayloadType; // 7 bits public int SequenceNumber; // 16 bits public int TimeStamp; // 32 bits public int Ssrc; // 32 bits //Bitstream of the RTP header public byte[] header = new byte[ HEADER_SIZE ]; This was my approach: /* * bits 0-1: Version * bit 2: Padding * bit 3: Extension * bits 4-7: CC */ header[0] = new Integer( (Version << 6)|(Padding << 5)|(Extension << 6)|CC ).byteValue(); /* * bit 0: Marker * bits 1-7: PayloadType */ header[1] = new Integer( (Marker << 7)|PayloadType ).byteValue(); /* SequenceNumber takes 2 bytes = 16 bits */ header[2] = new Integer( SequenceNumber >> 8 ).byteValue(); header[3] = new Integer( SequenceNumber ).byteValue(); /* TimeStamp takes 4 bytes = 32 bits */ for ( int i = 0; i < 4; i++ ) header[7-i] = new Integer( TimeStamp >> (8*i) ).byteValue(); /* Ssrc takes 4 bytes = 32 bits */ for ( int i = 0; i < 4; i++ ) header[11-i] = new Integer( Ssrc >> (8*i) ).byteValue(); Any other, maybe 'better' ways to do this?

  • Internet Explorer table 1 pixel spacing problem

    - by Dennis G.
    I've found a strange problem with Internet Explorer related to table spacing and cannot find a way to work around it. An empty table results in a single pixel white space with Internet Explorer (6 and 7, 8 not yet tested), while all other browsers ignore the empty table. Here's a picture of the problem: And here is the minimum HTML code to reproduce the issue (please note that there are more margin/padding css attributes and table attributes specified than really needed, I just tested if this fixes IE's behavior): <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <body> <div style="width: 200px; border: 1px black solid"> <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt; border-collapse: collapse;"> <tr> <td style="padding: 0; margin: 0"> </td> </tr> </table> <div style="background: red"> Test </div> </div> </body> </html> I'm not using an empty table as specified in the example above, but this was the minimum code that displays this behavior. Any ideas on how to fix this and remove the white space with IE?

  • Submit button not focused even though tabindex is properly set

    - by Nicsoft
    Hello, I have defined tabindex for the input fields in a form. When tabbing through the input fields the submit button is never getting the focus, some other input fields in a different form on the page gets the focus. Those are all having tabindexes higher than 3. How come? <form action="subscription.php" name="subscribe" method="post" onsubmit="return isValidEmailAndEqual()"> <p id="formlabel">E-mail</p> <input type="text" name="email1" tabindex=1> <br/> <p id="formlabel">Repeat e-mail</p> <input type="text" name="email2" tabindex=2> <br/> <input id="inputsubmit" type="submit" value="Subscribe" tabindex=3> </form> .css: input { background-color : #333; border: 1px solid #EEE; color: #EEE; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 4px; padding: 1px; width : 200px; } #inputsubmit { background-color : #d7e6f1; border: 1px solid #EEE; color: #0000ff; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 4px; padding: 1px; width : 200px; } #inputsubmit:hover { cursor: pointer; cursor: hand; background-color : #d7e6f1; border: 1px solid #0000ff; color: #0000ff; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 4px; padding: 1px; width : 200px; } p#formlabel{ width: 100; } Thanks in advance!

  • PHP image watermark only displaying image on page

    - by Satch3000
    I am testing a script where I watermark an image in my webpage. The script works fine and the image is watermark but my problem is that only the image is displayed on the page. As soon as I add the script to my page it's like the web page is converted to the image that I'm watermarking. I think it's because of header("content-type: image/jpeg"); from the code. I need to watermark the image on my webpage but I also need the rest of my webpage to be displayed too. How is this done? I'm quite confused on how this works. The script I'm using is from here Here's the code I'm using: <?php $main_img = "Porsche_911_996_Carrera_4S.jpg"; // main big photo / picture $watermark_img = "watermark.gif"; // use GIF or PNG, JPEG has no tranparency support $padding = 3; // distance to border in pixels for watermark image $opacity = 100; // image opacity for transparent watermark $watermark = imagecreatefromgif($watermark_img); // create watermark $image = imagecreatefromjpeg($main_img); // create main graphic if(!$image || !$watermark) die("Error: main image or watermark could not be loaded!"); $watermark_size = getimagesize($watermark_img); $watermark_width = $watermark_size[0]; $watermark_height = $watermark_size[1]; $image_size = getimagesize($main_img); $dest_x = $image_size[0] - $watermark_width - $padding; $dest_y = $image_size[1] - $watermark_height - $padding; // copy watermark on main image imagecopymerge($image, $watermark, $dest_x, $dest_y, 0, 0, $watermark_width, $watermark_height, $opacity); // print image to screen header("content-type: image/jpeg"); imagejpeg($image); imagedestroy($image); imagedestroy($watermark); ?> NOTE: I'm getting the image path from the database so I cannot hardcode the image filename as it's dynamic.

  • jQuery toggling div visibility

    - by Eef
    I have a HTML document with the below setup: <div class="main-div" style="padding: 5px; border: 1px solid green;"> <div class="first-div" style="width: 200px; height: 200px; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid purple"> First Div <a href="#" class="control">Control</a> </div> <div class="second-div hidden" style="width: 200px; height: 200px; padding: 5px; border: 1px solid red;"> Second Div <a href="#" class="control">Control</a> </div> </div> I also have a CSS class setup called hidden with display setup to none. I have jQuery setup like so: $('.control').click(function(){ var master = $(this).parent().parent(); var first_div = $(master).find(".first-div"); var second_div = $(master).find(".second-div"); $(first_div).toggleClass("hidden") $(second_div).toggleClass("hidden") }); This setup toggles the visibility of the divs, click the control button it hides one div and show the other. However this just hides and shows each div in a flash. I am looking to add some animation to the transitioning of the divs, maybe have one slide up and the other slide down when the 'control' is clicked and vice versa but I am unable to achieve this. Could anyone help out and give some advice on how to do this? Cheer Eef

  • css background image is being cut off..

    - by Ronedog
    I have an unordered list and the background image is being cut off when trying to place it next to the text. I'm using jquery to add the class to the anchor tag to display the image, and its working fine, the only problem is the image gets cut off. I've been playing around with the css, but can't seem to figure out how to make the image display properly...it seems like the < li is hiding the image behind it somehow...can I place the image in front of the < li to make it display...or am I missing something else? Can someone help me? Thanks. Here's the HTML: <ul id="nav> <li> <a class="folder_closed">Item 1</a> </li> </ul> Here's the CSS: ul#nav{ margin-left:0; margin-right:0; padding-left:0px; text-indent:15px; } #nav > li{ vertical-align: top; text-align:left; clear: both; margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px; padding-right:0px; padding-left:15px; } .folder_open{ position:relative; background-image: url(../images/maximize.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: -5px 1px; } .folder_closed{ position:relative; background-image: url(../images/minimize.png); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: -5px 1px; }

  • Prevent box shadow from showing on a specific side

    - by kaile
    Is there any way to create a css box-shadow in which regardless of the blur value, the shadow only appears on the desired sides? For example if I want to create a div with shadows on left and right sides and no shadow on the top or bottom. The div is not absolutely positioned and its height is determined by the content. -- Edit -- @ricebowl: I appreciate your answer. Maybe you can help with creating a complete solution to fix the problems stated in my reply to your solution... My page setup is as follows: <div id="container"> <div id="header"></div> <div id="content"></div> <div id="clearfooter"></div> </div> <div id="footer"></div> And CSS like this: #container {width:960px; min-height:100%; margin:0px auto -32px auto; position:relative; padding:0px; background-color:#e6e6e6; -moz-box-shadow: -3px 0px 5px rgba(0,0,0,.8), 3px 0px 5px rgba(0,0,0,.8);} #header {height:106px; position:relative;} #content {position:relative;} #clearFooter {height:32px; clear:both; display:block; padding:0px; margin:0px;} #footer {height:32px; padding:0px; position:relative; width:960px; margin:0px auto 0px auto;}

  • html doctype adds whitespace ??

    - by pstanton
    can someone please explain to me why having a doctype of <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> and <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"> render the following block differently under firefox? <table style="border-collapse:collapse; margin:0; padding:0;"> <tr> <td style="border:1px solid red; margin:0; padding:0;"><img src="http://images.smh.com.au/2010/06/01/1533814/th_park-90x60.jpg" style="border:none; padding:0; margin:0;" /></td> </tr> </table> using 'Transitional', there is no white space below the image, using 'Strict' there is! 2nd question, using strict, is it at all possible to remove this whitespace?
