  • C++ ulong to class method pointer and back

    - by Simone Margaritelli
    Hi guys, I'm using a hash table (source code by Google Inc) to store some method pointers defined as: typedef Object *(Executor::*expression_delegate_t)( vframe_t *, Node * ); Where obviously "Executor" is the class. The function prototype to insert some value to the hash table is: hash_item_t *ht_insert( hash_table_t *ht, ulong key, ulong data ); So basically i'm doing the insert double casting the method pointer: ht_insert( table, ASSIGN, reinterpret_cast<ulong>( (void *)&Executor::onAssign ) ); Where table is defined as a 'hash_table_t *' inside the declaration of the Executor class, ASSIGN is an unsigned long value, and 'onAssign' is the method I have to map. Now, Executor::onAssign is stored as an unsigned long value, its address in memory I think, and I need to cast back the ulong to a method pointer. But this code: hash_item_t* item = ht_find( table, ASSIGN ); expression_delegate_t delegate = reinterpret_cast < expression_delegate_t > (item->data); Gives me the following compilation error : src/executor.cpp:45: error: invalid cast from type ‘ulong’ to type ‘Object* (Executor::*)(vframe_t*, Node*)’ I'm using GCC v4.4.3 on a x86 GNU/Linux machine. Any hints?

  • static member specialization of templated child class and templated base class

    - by b3nj1
    I'm trying to have a templated class (here C) that inherits from another templated class (here A) and perform static member specialization (of int var here), but I cant get the right syntax to do so (if it's possible #include <iostream> template<typename derived> class A { public: static int var; }; //This one works fine class B :public A<B> { public: B() { std::cout << var << std::endl; } }; template<> int A<B>::var = 9; //This one doesn't works template<typename type> class C :public A<C<type> > { public: C() { std::cout << var << std::endl; } }; //template<> template<typename type> int A<C<type> >::a = 10; int main() { B b; C<int> c; return 0; } I put an example that works with a non templated class (here B) and i can get the static member specialization of var, but for C that just doesn't work. Here is what gcc tells me : test.cpp: In constructor ‘C<type>::C()’: test.cpp:29:26: error: ‘var’ was not declared in this scope test.cpp: At global scope: test.cpp:34:18: error: template definition of non-template ‘int A<C<type> >::a’ I'm using gcc version 4.6.3, thanks for any help

  • Tracking Votes and only allowing 1 vote per member

    - by MikeAdams
    What I'm trying to do is count the votes when someone votes on a "page". I think I lost myself trying to figure out how to track when a member votes or not. I can't seem to get the code to tell when a member has voted. //Generate code ID $useXID = intval($_GET['id']); $useXrank = $_GET['rank']; //if($useXrank!=null && $useXID!=null) { $rankcheck = mysql_query('SELECT member_id,code_id FROM code_votes WHERE member_id="'.$_MEMBERINFO_ID.'" AND WHERE code_id="'.$useXID.'"'); if(!mysql_fetch_array($rankcheck) && $useXrank=="up"){ $rankset = mysql_query('SELECT * FROM code_votes WHERE member_id="'.$_MEMBERINFO_ID.'"'); $ranksetfetch = mysql_fetch_array($rankset); $rankit = htmlentities($ranksetfetch['ranking']); $rankit+="1"; mysql_query("INSERT INTO code_votes (member_id,code_id) VALUES ('$_MEMBERINFO_ID','$useXID')") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_query("UPDATE code SET ranking = '".$rankit."' WHERE ID = '".$useXID."'"); } elseif(!mysql_fetch_array($rankcheck) && $useXrank=="down"){ $rankset = mysql_query('SELECT * FROM code_votes WHERE member_id="'.$_MEMBERINFO_ID.'"'); $ranksetfetch = mysql_fetch_array($rankset); $rankit = htmlentities($ranksetfetch['ranking']); $rankit-="1"; mysql_query("INSERT INTO code_votes (member_id,code_id) VALUES ('$_MEMBERINFO_ID','$useXID')") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_query("UPDATE code SET ranking = '".$rankit."' WHERE ID = '".$useXID."'"); } // hide vote links since already voted elseif(mysql_fetch_array($rankcheck)){$voted="true";} //}

  • Sharing class member data between sub components

    - by Tim Gradwell
    I have an aggregate 'main' class which contains some data which I wish to share. The main class also has other class members. I want to share the data with these other class members. What is the correct / neatest way to do this? The specific example I have is as follows. The main class is a .net Form. I have some controls (actually controls within controls) on the main form which need access to the shared data. Main Form - DataX - DataY - Control1 -- Subcontrol1 - Control2 -- SubControl2 SubControls 1 and 2 both wish to access DataX and DataY. The trouble is, I feel like better practice (to reduce coupling), would be that either subcontrols should not know about Main Form, or Main Form should not know about subcontrols - probably the former. For subcontrols not to know about Main Form, would probably mean Main Form passing references to both Controls 1 and 2, which in turn would pass the references on to SubControls 1 and 2. Lots of lines of code which just forward the references. If I later added DataZ and DataW, and Controls 3 and 4 and SubControls 3 and 4, I'd have to add lots more reference forwarding code. It seems simpler to me to give SubControls 1 and 2 member references to Main Form. That way, any sub control could just ask for MainForm.DataX or MainForm.DataY and if I ever added new data, I could just access it directly from the sub controls with no hassle. But it still involves setting the 'MainForm' member references every time I add a new Control or Subcontrol. And it gives me a gut feeling of 'wrong'. As you might be able to tell I'm not happy with either of my solutions. Is there a better way? Thanks

  • Access to and availability of private member functions in C++

    - by David
    I am wandering the desert of my brain. I'm trying to write something like the following: class MyClass { // Peripherally Related Stuff public: void TakeAnAction(int oneThing, int anotherThing) { switch(oneThing){ case THING_A: TakeThisActionWith(anotherThing); break; //cases THINGS_NOT_A: }; }; private: void TakeThisActionWith(int thing) { string outcome = new string; outcome = LookUpOutcome(thing); // Do some stuff based on outcome return; } string LookUpOutcome(int key) { string oc = new string; oc = MyPrivateMap[key]; return oc; } map<int, string> MyPrivateMap; Then in the .cc file where I am actually using these things, while compiling the TakeAnAction section, it [CC, the solaris compiler] throws an an error: 'The function LookUpOutcome must have a prototype' and bombs out. In my header file, I have declared 'string LookUpOutcome(int key);' in the private section of the class. I have tried all sorts of variations. I tried to use 'this' for a little while, and it gave me 'Can only use this in non-static member function.' Sadly, I haven't declared anything static and these are all, putatively, member functions. I tried it [on TakeAnAction and LookUp] when I got the error, but I got something like, 'Can't access MyPrivateMap from LookUp'. MyPrivateMap could be made public and I could refer to it directly, I guess, but my sensibility says that is not the right way to go about this [that means that namespace scoped helper functions are out, I think]. I also guess I could just inline the lookup and subsequent other stuff, but my line-o-meter goes on tilt. I'm trying desperately not to kludge it.

  • Calling member functions dynamically

    - by user652511
    I'm pretty sure it's possible to call a class and its member function dynamically in Delphi, but I can't quite seem to make it work. What am I missing? // Here's a list of classes (some code removed for clarity) moClassList : TList; moClassList.Add( TClassA ); moClassList.Add( TClassB ); // Here is where I want to call an object's member function if the // object's class is in the list: for i := 0 to moClassList.Count - 1 do if oObject is TClass(moClassList[i]) then with oObject as TClass(moClassList[i]) do Foo(); I get an undeclared identifier for Foo() at compile. Clarification/Additional Information: What I'm trying to accomplish is to create a Change Notification system between business classes. Class A registers to be notified of changes in Class B, and the system stores a mapping of Class A - Class B. Then, when a Class B object changes, the system will call a A.Foo() to process the change. I'd like the notification system to not require any hard-coded classes if possible. There will always be a Foo() for any class that registers for notification. Maybe this can't be done or there's a completely different and better approach to my problem. By the way, this is not exactly an "Observer" design pattern because it's not dealing with objects in memory. Managing changes between related persistent data seems like a standard problem to be solved, but I've not found very much discussion about it. Again, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. • How to get Ponter/Reference semantics in Scala.

    - by Lukasz Lew
    In C++ I would just take a pointer (or reference) to arr[idx]. In Scala I find myself creating this class to emulate a pointer semantic. class SetTo (val arr : Array[Double], val idx : Int) { def apply (d : Double) { arr(idx) = d } } Isn't there a simpler way? Doesn't Array class have a method to return some kind of reference to a particular field?

  • WebLogic Server JMS WLST Script – Who is Connected To My Server

    - by james.bayer
    Ever want to know who was connected to your WebLogic Server instance for troubleshooting?  An email exchange about this topic and JMS came up this week, and I’ve heard it come up once or twice before too.  Sometimes it’s interesting or helpful to know the list of JMS clients (IP Addresses, JMS Destinations, message counts) that are connected to a particular JMS server.  This can be helpful for troubleshooting.  Tom Barnes from the WebLogic Server JMS team provided some helpful advice: The JMS connection runtime mbean has “getHostAddress”, which returns the host address of the connecting client JVM as a string.  A connection runtime can contain session runtimes, which in turn can contain consumer runtimes.  The consumer runtime, in turn has a “getDestinationName” and “getMemberDestinationName”.  I think that this means you could write a WLST script, for example, to dump all consumers, their destinations, plus their parent session’s parent connection’s host addresses.    Note that the client runtime mbeans (connection, session, and consumer) won’t necessarily be hosted on the same JVM as a destination that’s in the same cluster (client messages route from their connection host to their ultimate destination in the same cluster). Writing the Script So armed with this information, I decided to take the challenge and see if I could write a WLST script to do this.  It’s always helpful to have the WebLogic Server MBean Reference handy for activities like this.  This one is focused on JMS Consumers and I only took a subset of the information available, but it could be modified easily to do Producers.  I haven’t tried this on a more complex environment, but it works in my simple sandbox case, so it should give you the general idea. # Better to use Secure Config File approach for login as shown here http://buttso.blogspot.com/2011/02/using-secure-config-files-with-weblogic.html connect('weblogic','welcome1','t3://localhost:7001')   # Navigate to the Server Runtime and get the Server Name serverRuntime() serverName = cmo.getName()   # Multiple JMS Servers could be hosted by a single WLS server cd('JMSRuntime/' + serverName + '.jms' ) jmsServers=cmo.getJMSServers()   # Find the list of all JMSServers for this server namesOfJMSServers = '' for jmsServer in jmsServers: namesOfJMSServers = jmsServer.getName() + ' '   # Count the number of connections jmsConnections=cmo.getConnections() print str(len(jmsConnections)) + ' JMS Connections found for ' + serverName + ' with JMSServers ' + namesOfJMSServers   # Recurse the MBean tree for each connection and pull out some information about consumers for jmsConnection in jmsConnections: try: print 'JMS Connection:' print ' Host Address = ' + jmsConnection.getHostAddress() print ' ClientID = ' + str( jmsConnection.getClientID() ) print ' Sessions Current = ' + str( jmsConnection.getSessionsCurrentCount() ) jmsSessions = jmsConnection.getSessions() for jmsSession in jmsSessions: jmsConsumers = jmsSession.getConsumers() for jmsConsumer in jmsConsumers: print ' Consumer:' print ' Name = ' + jmsConsumer.getName() print ' Messages Received = ' + str(jmsConsumer.getMessagesReceivedCount()) print ' Member Destination Name = ' + jmsConsumer.getMemberDestinationName() except: print 'Error retrieving JMS Consumer Information' dumpStack() # Cleanup disconnect() exit() Example Output I expect the output to look something like this and loop through all the connections, this is just the first one: 1 JMS Connections found for AdminServer with JMSServers myJMSServer JMS Connection:   Host Address = 127.0.0.1   ClientID = None   Sessions Current = 16    Consumer:      Name = consumer40      Messages Received = 1      Member Destination Name = myJMSModule!myQueue Notice that it has the IP Address of the client.  There are 16 Sessions open because I’m using an MDB, which defaults to 16 connections, so this matches what I expect.  Let’s see what the full output actually looks like: D:\Oracle\fmw11gr1ps3\user_projects\domains\offline_domain>java weblogic.WLST d:\temp\jms.py   Initializing WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) ...   Welcome to WebLogic Server Administration Scripting Shell   Type help() for help on available commands   Connecting to t3://localhost:7001 with userid weblogic ... • WPF ToolBar: how to customize appearance (remove dots and a pointer)

    - by Nike
    I use ToolBar for my WPF application. As I understand, there is no easy way to make it floating. I just want to remove elements which I don't want to be displayed: several dots in the left side, and a pointer (arrow) in right side of ToolBar. Is there any Properties to customize view of ToolBar? Or, maybe, it's possible to redefine a ToolBar Template?

  • SQLiteOpenHelper.getWriteableDatabase() null pointer exception on Android

    - by Drew Dara-Abrams
    I've had fine luck using SQLite with straight, direct SQL in Android, but this is the first time I'm wrapping a DB in a ContentProvider. I keep getting a null pointer exception when calling getWritableDatabase() or getReadableDatabase(). Is this just a stupid mistake I've made with initializations in my code or is there a bigger issue? public class DatabaseProvider extends ContentProvider { ... private DatabaseHelper databaseHelper; private SQLiteDatabase db; ... @Override public boolean onCreate() { databaseHelper = new DatabaseProvider.DatabaseHelper(getContext()); return (databaseHelper == null) ? false : true; } ... @Override public Uri insert(Uri uri, ContentValues values) { db = databaseHelper.getWritableDatabase(); // NULL POINTER EXCEPTION HERE ... } private static class DatabaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper { public static final String DATABASE_NAME = "cogsurv.db"; public static final int DATABASE_VERSION = 1; public static final String[] TABLES = { "people", "travel_logs", "travel_fixes", "landmarks", "landmark_visits", "direction_distance_estimates" }; // people._id does not AUTOINCREMENT, because it's set based on server's people.id public static final String[] CREATE_TABLE_SQL = { "CREATE TABLE people (_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY," + "server_id INTEGER," + "name VARCHAR(255)," + "email_address VARCHAR(255))", "CREATE TABLE travel_logs (_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT," + "server_id INTEGER," + "person_local_id INTEGER," + "person_server_id INTEGER," + "start DATE," + "stop DATE," + "type VARCHAR(15)," + "uploaded VARCHAR(1))", "CREATE TABLE travel_fixes (_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT," + "datetime DATE, " + "latitude DOUBLE, " + "longitude DOUBLE, " + "altitude DOUBLE," + "speed DOUBLE," + "accuracy DOUBLE," + "travel_mode VARCHAR(50), " + "person_local_id INTEGER," + "person_server_id INTEGER," + "travel_log_local_id INTEGER," + "travel_log_server_id INTEGER," + "uploaded VARCHAR(1))", "CREATE TABLE landmarks (_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT," + "server_id INTEGER," + "name VARCHAR(150)," + "latitude DOUBLE," + "longitude DOUBLE," + "person_local_id INTEGER," + "person_server_id INTEGER," + "uploaded VARCHAR(1))", "CREATE TABLE landmark_visits (_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT," + "server_id INTEGER," + "person_local_id INTEGER," + "person_server_id INTEGER," + "landmark_local_id INTEGER," + "landmark_server_id INTEGER," + "travel_log_local_id INTEGER," + "travel_log_server_id INTEGER," + "datetime DATE," + "number_of_questions_asked INTEGER," + "uploaded VARCHAR(1))", "CREATE TABLE direction_distance_estimates (_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT," + "server_id INTEGER," + "person_local_id INTEGER," + "person_server_id INTEGER," + "travel_log_local_id INTEGER," + "travel_log_server_id INTEGER," + "landmark_visit_local_id INTEGER," + "landmark_visit_server_id INTEGER," + "start_landmark_local_id INTEGER," + "start_landmark_server_id INTEGER," + "target_landmark_local_id INTEGER," + "target_landmark_server_id INTEGER," + "datetime DATE," + "direction_estimate DOUBLE," + "distance_estimate DOUBLE," + "uploaded VARCHAR(1))" }; public DatabaseHelper(Context context) { super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, DATABASE_VERSION); Log.v(Constants.TAG, "DatabaseHelper()"); } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { Log.v(Constants.TAG, "DatabaseHelper.onCreate() starting"); // create the tables int length = CREATE_TABLE_SQL.length; for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) { db.execSQL(CREATE_TABLE_SQL[i]); } Log.v(Constants.TAG, "DatabaseHelper.onCreate() finished"); } @Override public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) { for (String tableName : TABLES) { db.execSQL("DROP TABLE IF EXISTS" + tableName); } onCreate(db); } } } As always, thanks for the assistance! -- Not sure if this detail helps, but here's LogCat showing the exception:

  • "this" pointer changes in GDB backtrace

    - by Hans
    I am examining a core dump, and noticed that in one frame the 'this' pointer is different than in the next frame (in the same thread). Not just a little different, it went from 0x8167428 to 0x200. I am not that well-versed in using GDB, but this does not seem right to me. Is this problematic, and if so, what could be the cause?

  • passing argument 1 from incompatible pointer type

    Why does this code...: NSDictionary *testDictionary = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:kABOtherLabel, @"other", kABWorkLabel, @"work", nil]; throw this warning: warning: passing argument 1 of 'dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys' from incompatible pointer type Incidentally, the code works as expected, but I don't like leaving warnings un-delt-with. I assume it doesn't like that I'm storing a constant in a dictionary. Well, where can I store it then? Should I just place (void *) before every constant?

    Hi Folks, Is there any problem with keeping member variable pointer refernces to COM objects and reussing the reference through out the class in C++. Is anybody aware of a reason why you would want to call .CreateInstance every time you wanted a to use the COM object i.e. you were getting a fresh instance each time. I cannot see any reason who you would want to do this, Thanks, (No is an acceptable answer!!!)

  • Using a type parameter and a pointer to the same type parameter in a function template

    - by Darel
    Hello, I've written a template function to determine the median of any vector or array of any type that can be sorted with sort. The function and a small test program are below: #include <algorithm> #include <vector> #include <iostream> using namespace::std; template <class T, class X> void median(T vec, size_t size, X& ret) { sort(vec, vec + size); size_t mid = size/2; ret = size % 2 == 0 ? (vec[mid] + vec[mid-1]) / 2 : vec[mid]; } int main() { vector<double> v; v.push_back(2); v.push_back(8); v.push_back(7); v.push_back(4); v.push_back(9); double a[5] = {2, 8, 7, 4, 9}; double r; median(v.begin(), v.size(), r); cout << r << endl; median(a, 5, r); cout << r << endl; return 0; } As you can see, the median function takes a pointer as an argument, T vec. Also in the argument list is a reference variable X ret, which is modified by the function to store the computed median value. However I don't find this a very elegant solution. T vec will always be a pointer to the same type as X ret. My initial attempts to write median had a header like this: template<class T> T median(T *vec, size_t size) { sort(vec, vec + size); size_t mid = size/2; return size % 2 == 0 ? (vec[mid] + vec[mid-1]) / 2 : vec[mid]; } I also tried: template<class T, class X> X median(T vec, size_t size) { sort(vec, vec + size); size_t mid = size/2; return size % 2 == 0 ? (vec[mid] + vec[mid-1]) / 2 : vec[mid]; } I couldn't get either of these to work. My question is, can anyone show me a working implementation of either of my alternatives? Thanks for looking!
