    I want to install Python 2.6, but as it's still experimental for Debian Linux, I'm wondering what my best course of action is. Is the right idea to install it into /usr/local for my system and then update the python sym link in /usr/bin to point to that version? Are there other considerations or ways to do it I should be thinking about?

  • Disable default Gnome Shell Super Key Mapping

    Gnome Shell by default uses the Super (Windows) key to display the activities overview. But I'd prefer to use the Super key to invoke Synapse. Right now I have to press Super+Super+Spacebar in order to invoke Synapse which is annoying (Super+Spacebar is the binding to invoke Synapse). Is there any way to remove the default Gnome Shell mapping? In the keyboard shortcuts system settings, only the Alt+F1 binding appears for the activities overview action.

    I want to use WHM/Cpanel's Host Access Control interface to change some settings in hosts.allow and hosts.deny. I want to block all access to our SSH exept from the IP we have from our office. Daemon Access List Action Comment sshd ALL EXCEPT x.x.x.x deny Deny access from all other IPs apart from ours But I am worried about what happens if our IP changes, which it does about twice a week. How would I get back in to edit the hosts.allow / hosts.deny files?

    My OS is Windows 7. I try to download Adobe® Acrobat 9 Pro for English and Windows (326.6MB) by its Akamai Download Manager and then click on "Install Now". But I meet some error: "Action center.lnk" is a file which was downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it? I click yes, but then: Launching File Failed: se_err_accessdenied Anyone has some idea why and how to fix it? Thanks and regards!

  • SQL Server 2008 - Error starting service - model.mdf not found?!

    my SQL server 2008 was running fine. About an hour ago, it suddenly stopped - the MSSQLSERVER service had stopped I right clicked, clicked start, and it said the service had started, and stopped I looked in the event log and saw these two errors: 17207 : udopen: Operating system error 3(error not found) during the creation/opening of physical device C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\model.mdf. 17204 : FCB::Open failed: Could not open device C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\model.mdf for virtual device number (VDN) 1. The model.mdf db has NEVER been in that location - i specified drive F: to use for data / log during install. I checked the SQL Configuration Manager, to try and set startup params, but SQL Server is not listed as one of the services..... EDIT: I've now moved the db to where it was looking for: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\ directory. Now if I start the service, it still does not work - i get this error message in the log: Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 3, object ID 1, index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes. Interestingly, i checked the error log - around the time users reported problems, there is this: 2010-01-08 17:11:26.44 spid51 Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 0 to 1. The Apache error log may have more information. myUser@myMachine:/etc $ sudo apachectl stop httpd (no pid file) not running I'm brand new to Ubuntu (and Linux) and downloaded Apache 2.2 (worker) through Synaptic. I found a httpd.conf flavor I liked and am using it.

    I wonder if there is an option (inside of Evernote or outside of it, manually with the help of 3rd party tools) to locate the biggest notes inside of Evernote? I want to remove those or put them into another system. Basically a "order after note(file) size" option is what I need. My EN database is now over 250 MB big due to my increased usage so I need to take some action. Thanks for your help in advance.

    the built in command line ftp client in server 2008 does not support passive mode so I've used these commands to allow outbound ftp (it stalls without this) 1) Open port 21 on the firewall netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="FTP (no SSL)" action=allow protocol=TCP dir=in localport=21 2) Activate firewall application filter for FTP (aka Stateful FTP) that will dynamically open ports for data connections netsh advfirewall set global StatefulFtp enable however in server 2008 r2, these commands seem to work, but it does not affect the outbound ftp, it stalls I do not want to use an alt client

    My laptop harddrive has developed some serious read errors in the windows partition. Windows 7 still boots but every single action takes an aeon, and it is definitely due to a harddisk error not due to any spyware. I'm using the Ubuntu partition now. I've ordered a new harddrive but my laptop didn't come with a Windows 7 install disk (I think I was meant to make one with the windows 7 tools). So how can I install Windows 7 on my new harddrive?

  • Windows: View "all" permissions of a specific user or group

    For a Windows domain, is there a way to see for a certain user or group, where the user/group has permissions? Primarily: List which files / folders the user can access on a certain network share. (Kind of a recursive "effective permissions") However, other permissions would be cool as well. I believe I've seen such a tool in action, but I can't remember anything beyond that - so this might be a false memory. Recommendations?

Currently when looking at the "Critical" count I find it difficult to decide if an internal service is affected (I should take immediate action) or an external service (I just acknowledge the problem). Is there a way to keep a problem acknowledgement for future down-times of the checked host/service? Is there some way to auto-acknowledge the state change of external hosts/services?

  • Scroll modifier for mouse/trackball in windows

    I have a trackball (Logitech Trackman Marble in this case, though this could apply to any mouse or pointing device) where I would like to use one of the buttons as a middle-click when I click it, but to trigger scrolling action when I hold it down and move the ball around. I could do this quite easily in Linux by setting scroll-modifier in the X config, but the driver that comes with the trackball (Logitech) only allows one or the other. Is there any way to set this up in Windows 8?

Here's a rule (broken down for readability): ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{busnum}=="1", ATTR{devpath}=="2", ATTR{idVendor}=="05e1", NAME="video97" It works. /dev/video97 is created But the original /dev/video1 node is STILL there. The even worse, when I try to view the /dev/video97 node in guvcview it doesn't work, while the original node DOES work.

    I'm constructing a backup script for Windows 7, and the last action I want it to perform is to safely "remove" the USB drive that it is backing up to. I am under the impression that plugging the drive into the SAME USB port all the time will keep the same DEV_ID, correct me if I'm wrong. With a Command Line (or PowerShell), how can I tell Windows to safely remove the hardware automatically without user input? Just as a place holder, other OSes that may have a way to do this would be great to know as well
