    Does anyone know of a wordpress plugin which simplifies the registration process by allowing users to sign up on the spot without having to be sent an email? It would be good if you could also pass a redirect_to parameter in the url like you can for the login.

  • Mac OSX: Scroll half a page

    I am no longer using the trackpad on my macbook and using a separate wired apple keyboard instead. I miss the scrolling functionality on my trackpad, I'm having to make do with the keyboard (the mouse is too far away for efficient scrolling). Is there a way to map a key combination (such as cmd+pagedown) such that I scroll up/down half a page instead of a full page? Even better, is there a way to map key combinations to arbitrary scrolling distances? Thanks for your time

  • Referencing a specific figure in Microsoft Word 2003

    Referring to the screenshot below: I want to be able to reference the figure in the body of the text properly without having to change them manually every time I add a figure label before that body of text. However, I don't know how to do it aside from adding caption labels, which won't work for cases where I have more than one reference to the figure (at least I don't know how to do that properly anyway). How would you recommend accomplishing that?

    Having read through the docs and RabbitMQ in Action, creating a RabbitMQ cluster seems straightforward enough, but upgrading or patching an existing RabbitMQ cluster seems to require the whole cluster to be restarted. Is there a way to combine clustering, shovel, federation, and load balancing to make a rolling upgrade possible without losing queues or messages, or have I missed something slightly more obvious?

  • How to disable portmap on Mac OS X

    Hi, I notice the message: Firewall[313] portmap is listening from 0.0.0.0:111 proto=6 repeated on my logs ever 30 seconds. How can I disable portmap (not using NFS or anything like that so I assume I have no need for it). I already tried Lingon.app and disabled com.apple.portmap from there, but that didn't help at all as portmap is still running after i rebooted. What would be the proper way to disable portmap and stop the service without having to reboot on Mac OS X 10.6. peto

    Hello, I'm looking for a nice way to add / remote ips (and possibly interact with an asset inventory system to track where ips are), start / stop processes, download logs, and all around genearal system admin duties from one place. It's okay if I require more than 1 program. That would still be better than having 50 million terminals open and trying to trace ip assignments etc on whiteboards. Through variaous methods (login scripts, etc) I think that I had everyone migrated off of this server and connected to the new print server. Having said that, I'd like to make sure before taking the server down :-) Is there a script that I can run to query a remote workstations in my domain to see what printer shares it is connected to?

  • File/folder permissions and groups on Linux with Apache

    I'm trying to learn about permissions on linux webserver with apache. Some clues to the system: The server I have to play around with is Fedora based. Apache runs as apache:apache. To allow for e.g. php to write to a file the file needs to be chmod 777. 755 is not sufficiant. What I'm wondering is basically how set up permissions like they should be on e.g. a "shared web host". My main problem is that if I set a permission so that one user cannot access anothers home folder, then apache can't read from the public_html folder either. To keep the users out I need to set chmod 700. But to let apache to read I need to have at least execute on world, so a 701 basically works, but won't let some users in. So I'm really stuck on what to do. Have been concidering adding the apache user to the frous grours below to avoid having to add the world execute flag, but is that a bad thing? Should it be the other way around, the users in the groups below should also be in the apache group? I was aiming at having 4 groups: 1. webapp same as dev_int, but is the only one that can go inside the webapp/live folder to e.g. do an update from the repo. 2. dev_int can read,write and execute everything in the "web root", including the two below, but nothing outside of the web root 3. dev_ext can read write and execute in all client folders, but cannot access anything outside of the webapp root 4. clientsBasic ftp accounts. Has a home folder with a public_html, but cannot access any other home folders An example of folder structure: webroot    no users in the aforementioned groups can go outside of here some_project    :dev_int only webapp live    :webapp only staging    :dev_int and :dev_ext clients    :dev_int and :dev_ext client_1    :dev_int, :dev_ext and client1:clients public_html dev developer_1    developer_1:dev_int OR :dev_ext public_html

I can't open the table properties windows at the bottom of the screen when I double click on a table, and I can't right-click on the table and choose properties because the choice is not there... The Database tab is missing from the ribbon on top. What can cause this? Here is what I already tried: File/Options/Trust Center/ Trust Center Settings.../Add-ins/Disable all Application Add-ins is UNCHECKED

  • How does MySQL's ORDER BY RAND() work?

    Hi, I've been doing some research and testing on how to do fast random selection in MySQL. In the process I've faced some unexpected results and now I am not fully sure I know how ORDER BY RAND() really works. I always thought that when you do ORDER BY RAND() on the table, MySQL adds a new column to the table which is filled with random values, then it sorts data by that column and then e.g. you take the above value which got there randomly. I've done lots of googling and testing and finally found that the query Jay offers in his blog is indeed the fastest solution: SELECT * FROM Table T JOIN (SELECT CEIL(MAX(ID)*RAND()) AS ID FROM Table) AS x ON T.ID >= x.ID LIMIT 1; While common ORDER BY RAND() takes 30-40 seconds on my test table, his query does the work in 0.1 seconds. He explains how this functions in the blog so I'll just skip this and finally move to the odd thing. My table is a common table with a PRIMARY KEY id and other non-indexed stuff like username, age, etc. Here's the thing I am struggling to explain SELECT * FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; /*30-40 seconds*/ SELECT id FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; /*0.25 seconds*/ SELECT id, username FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; /*90 seconds*/ I was sort of expecting to see approximately the same time for all three queries since I am always sorting on a single column. But for some reason this didn't happen. Please let me know if you any ideas about this. I have a project where I need to do fast ORDER BY RAND() and personally I would prefer to use SELECT id FROM table ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1; SELECT * FROM table WHERE id=ID_FROM_PREVIOUS_QUERY LIMIT 1; which, yes, is slower than Jay's method, however it is smaller and easier to understand. My queries are rather big ones with several JOINs and with WHERE clause and while Jay's method still works, the query grows really big and complex because I need to use all the JOINs and WHERE in the JOINed (called x in his query) sub request.   • Unit finalization order for application, compiled with run-time packages?

    I need to execute my code after finalization of SysUtils unit. I've placed my code in separate unit and included it first in uses clause of dpr-file, like this: project Project1; uses MyUnit, // <- my separate unit SysUtils, Classes, SomeOtherUnits; procedure Test; begin // end; begin SetProc(Test); end. MyUnit looks like this: unit MyUnit; interface procedure SetProc(AProc: TProcedure); implementation var Test: TProcedure; procedure SetProc(AProc: TProcedure); begin Test := AProc; end; initialization finalization Test; end. Note that MyUnit doesn't have any uses. This is usual Windows exe, no console, without forms and compiled with default run-time packages. MyUnit is not part of any package (but I've tried to use it from package too). I expect that finalization section of MyUnit will be executed after finalization section of SysUtils. This is what Delphi's help tells me. However, this is not always the case. I have 2 test apps, which differs a bit by code in Test routine/dpr-file and units, listed in uses. MyUnit, however, is listed first in all cases. One application is run as expected: Halt0 - FinalizeUnits - ...other units... - SysUtils's finalization - MyUnit's finalization - ...other units... But the second is not. MyUnit's finalization is invoked before SysUtils's finalization. The actual call chain looks like this: Halt0 - FinalizeUnits - ...other units... - SysUtils's finalization (skipped) - MyUnit's finalization - ...other units... - SysUtils's finalization (executed) Both projects have very similar settings. I tried a lot to remove/minimize their differences, but I still do not see a reason for this behaviour. I've tried to debug this and found out that: it seems that every unit have some kind of reference counting. And it seems that InitTable contains multiply references to the same unit. When SysUtils's finalization section is called first time - it change reference counter and do nothing. Then MyUnit's finalization is executed.   • unable to upgrade VMWare tools in Ubuntu 8.10

    I'm having a rather odd issue with a VMWare Tools upgrade on Ubuntu 8.10. As the screenshot below demonstrates, it wants to remove the old version before installing the new version (ok, not a problem). When it attempts to do so, however, it tells me that it can't uninstall the previous version, because there isn't one (there is! problem!). Has anyone encountered this? Googling didn't turn up much.

  • How can I view locking on a file on a file?

    Hi all, We have a database file (foxpro) on a Windows share (2003 server), we're having some problems where the program that writes to this file has to retry as the file is locked, this all happens very quickly and within a few seconds the file is available but the problem is it shouldn't be locked. Does anyone know how we can view what's locking it? Any tools available? Thanks James
