• Slow filesystem access

  I'm trying to diagnose a slow filesystem issue on a server I look after. It's been ongoing for quite some time, and I've run out of ideas as to what I can try. Here's the thick of it. The server itself is a Dell Poweredge T310. It has 4 SAS hard drives in it, configured at RAID5, and is running Citrix XenServer 5.6. The VM is a (relatively) old Debian 5.0.6 installation. It's given 4 cores, and 4Gb's of RAM. It has 3 volumes. A 10Gb volume (ext3) for the system, 980Gb volume (xfs) for data (~94% full), and another 200Gb volume (xfs) for data (~13% full). Now here's the weird thing. Read/write access to the 980Gb volume is really slow. I might get 5Mb/s out of it if I'm lucky. At first I figured it was actually disk access in the system, or at a hypervisor level, but ruled that out entirely as other VMs on the same host are running perfectly fine (a good couple hundred Mb/s disk r/w access). So then I started to target this particular VM. I started thinking it was XFS, but to prove it I wasn't going to attempt to change the filesystem on the 980Gb drive, with years and years of billions of files on there. So I provisioned the 200Gb drive, and did the same read/write test (basically dd), and got a good couple hundred Mb/s r/w access to it. So that ruled out the VM, the hardware, and the filesystem type. • Printing from Firefox on different printers and setting the page details beforehand

  I´ve got an odd problem and I have not been able to fix this. I have a computer which is connected to two printers. One is a receipt printer (EPSON TM-U220), and the other one is an impact printer (Epson LX-300+). From Firefox, I need to print on both printers at different moments. So first I print on the receipt printer, then on the impact printer, etc. However, whenever I first print on the receipt printer, and then go back to the impact printer, the printout is only the width of the page of the receipt printer. That is, the page does not come out properly, just the left part of the page is used for printing and the right part is completely empty, as if I am just printing on the small receipt paper. And there is no way I can tell Firefox that I am printing on this larger printer. The second print on the impact printer goes fine. Firefox now knows it is printing on the impact printer, and it comes out properly on the full page width. But every first print on the impact printer is using the wrong paper size. How can I fix this? When I go to PAGE PREVIEW I can not set the printer UNTIL I actually print the page. If I go to PRINT PREVIEW CONFIGURE PAGE, I can not set the printer I will be using. I can only do so if I go to PRINT PREVIEW PRINT (here is the dropdown box to set the printer). But I can only set the printer and then click PRINT, or CANCEL. If I click PRINT, then the computer remembers the setting but that page will come our wrong, and when I click cancel it simply does not remember the printer I just set.

• Problem mirroring two monitors with different resolution

  Hello I am trying to put two monitors in mirror mode (Windows 7 Professional) with Ultramon 3.1.0. The two monitors: Main monitor: 24" Asus. 1680x1050 resolution (16/10). Secondary monitor: 19" LG. 1280x1024 resolution. The graphic card is a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT. I have installed the Ultramon 3.1.0 and I have created a mirror, with the "stretch mirror image to fill monitor" and the "disable video overlays and 3D acceleration". When I start the mirroring, there are two zones in the lateral edges that are not displayed in the second monitor. I think this is because the width of the main monitor is 1680 px. and the width of the secondary monitor is 1280 px., but I have indicated "stretch mirror image to fill monitor" in the options. The same occurs in the top and the bottom edges, but the diference is minimal (1050 vs 1024 pixels). I want the same image (distortioned in the secondary monitor if is neccesary), but I don't know what is failing. Someone can help me, please? I have read Mirrored monitors of different resolution. • Ubuntu 10.04 network manager issues

  I was using the default network manager to connect to my wi-fi network, but if the connection is dropped or router restarted the network manager wont reconnect automatically after i guess a couple of tries and just gives a pop-up to connect manually . To avoid this annoyance I installed WICD but though it does try to reconnect to the network after a drop in connection it is unable to resolve the ip address and i am left with an even bigger annoyance . 1. Is there a way to counter either of these issues ? 2. Something like a background process that will check network status periodically and then try to connect to a favored network ? • xen + debian network after upgrade squeeze to wheeze

  I've got a Debian + Xen server. After a system upgrade to the stable version the network doesn't come up after boot. Every time after reboot I need to bring it up manually. The network configuration was not changed during upgrade. • Can't connect to wi-fi hotspot in Ubuntu 11.10

  I'm new to Ubuntu. I'm having a wireless network problem in Ubuntu 11.10. I made a hotspot using Connectify from a computer which is running Windows 7. I can access it in Windows 7 but not in Ubuntu 11.10. Every time I access it,I get a message "disconnected". I'm using msi fx 400 notebook with Intel Centrino wireless -N 1000 wireless card. • What is wrong with my gtkrc file?

  I have written following gtkrc file from some other theme gtkrc file. This theme is normal theme with buttons using pixmap theme engine. I have also given background image to GtkEntry. Problem is that, When i use this theme my buttons doesn't show text one them and my entry box does not show cursor. My problem is the function "checkAvailability()" cannot see the variable "daysWithRecords".The firebug prompts me that "daysWithRecords" is "undefined". this is the first time I write my first plugin. • Compare images after canny edge detection in OpenCV (C++)

  Hi all, I am working on an OpenCV project and I need to compare some images after canny has been applied to both of them. Before the canny was applied I had the gray scale images populating a histogram and then I compared the histograms, but when canny is added to the images the histogram does not populate. I have read that a canny image can populate a histogram, but have not found a way to make it happen. I do not necessairly need to keep using the histograms, I just want to know the best way to compare two canny images. SSCCE below for you to chew on.   i am trying to get date from my implementation of jquery date picker, add it to a string and display the resulting image in my div. Something however is just not working.   Hi, I have a login control on my homepage (http://www.xyz.com) which makes a JSON login request over HTTPS (https://www.xyz.com/json.ashx). This seems to work fine in Firefox and IE7. But IE8 gives a 'permission denied' error for jquery.min.js I have verified that this call works fine if its solely over http or https. Is the call considered 'cross-domain' if it is between the http and https sections of the site? How can I resolve this problem? Thanks, Murali

• Zend Framework + Uplodify Flash Uploader Troubles

  I've been trying to get the Uploadify flash uploader (www.uploadify.com) to work with Zend Framework, with no success so far. I have placed all Uploadify files under /public/flash-uploader directory. In the controller I include all required files and libraries like this: $this->view->headScript()->appendFile('/js/jquery-1.3.2.min.js'); $this->view->headLink()->appendStylesheet('/flash-uploader/css/default.css'); $this->view->headLink()->appendStylesheet('/flash-uploader/css/uploadify.css'); $this->view->headScript()->appendFile('/flash-uploader/scripts/swfobject.js'); $this->view->headScript()->appendFile('/flash-uploader/scripts/jquery.uploadify.v2.1.0.min.js'); And then I activate the plugin like this (#photo is id of the input file field): $(document).ready(function() { $("#photo").uploadify({ 'uploader' : '/flash-uploader/scripts/uploadify.swf', 'script' : 'my-account/flash-upload', 'cancelImg' : '/flash-uploader/cancel.png', 'folder' : 'uploads/tmp', 'queueID' : 'fileQueue', 'auto' : true, 'multi' : true, 'sizeLimit' : 2097152 }); }); As you can see I am targeting the my-account/flash-upload script as a backend processing (my-account is a controller, flash-upload is an action). The browse button doesn't even show up as in the demo page, I get only a regular input file field. Any ideas where could the problem be? I've already been staring into the code for hours and I cannot see any mistake anywhere and I'm starting to be exhausted after going through the same 30 lines of code 30 times in a row.

• Silverlight 2.0 - Can't get the text wrapping behaviour that I want

  I am having trouble getting Silverlight 2.0 to lay out text exactly how I want. I want text with line breaks and embedded links, with wrapping, like HTML text in a web page. I want each text block to start where the previous one ends, on the same line. I want to put click event handlers on some of the text. I also want paragraph breaks. Essentially I'm trying to work around the lack of FlowDocument and Hyperlink controls in Silverlight 2.0's subset of XAML. To answer the questions posed in the answers: Why not use runs for the non-clickable text? If I just use individual TextBlocks only on the clickable text, then those bits of text will still suffer from the wrapping problem illustrated above. And the TextBlock just before the link, and the TextBlock just after. Essentially all of it. It doesn't look like I have many opportunities for putting multiple runs in the same TextBlock. Dividing the links from the other text with RegExs and loops is not the issue at all, the issue is display layout. Why not put each word in an individual TextBlock in a WrapPanel Aside from being an ugly hack, this does not play at all well with linebreaks - the layout is incorrect. It would also make the underline style of linked text into a broken line. Here's an example with each word in its own TextBlock. It has the same problems as the approach above, since it's much the same. Try running the sample, and make the link text longer and longer until it wraps. Note that the link starts on a new line, which it shouldn't. Make the link text even longer, so that the link text is longer than a line. Note that it doesn't wrap at all, it cuts off. This control doesn't handle line breaks and paragraph breaks either. Why not put the text all in runs, detect clicks on the containing TextBlock and work out which run was clicked Runs do not have mouse events, but the containing TextBlock does. I can't find a way to check if the run is under the mouse (IsMouseOver is not present in SilverLight) or to find the bounding geometry of the run (no clip property). There is VisualTreeHelper.FindElementsInHostCoordinates() The code below uses VisualTreeHelper.FindElementsInHostCoordinates to get the controls under the click. How do you calculate the right width for a line-breaking block to force following content onto the following line? Too short and the following content will still be on the same line, at the right. Too long and the "linebreak" will be on the following line, with content after it. You would have to resize the breaks when the control is resized.
