  Anybody got any any tutorials that cover these subjects ... the official MS 70-536 book covers this but I don't want to take any chances as I want additional reading materials problem is, its proving difficult to find anything on it. It's a fairly big subject so am hoping somone on here as here as got some good reading materials on that cover these subjects. At this very moment in time, im reading this; Tutorial01 Its not much, but its a good starting point. I'm not a big fan MSDN and the way its structured and layout, I mainly use it for framework related questions like classes and interfaces and etc. WHen it comes to tutorials, i prefer thrid party websites. Lastly, this extra reading which I am asking for is really revision for the 70-536 exam. TIA. Ibrar

• Silverlight layout Best Practices

  I'm writing a fairly big interface using Silverlight. As I progress, the xaml file is getting fairly big and is becoming proportionally uglier. Questions Are there any resources out there to make the xaml more readable? For example, how would I display the order of attributes (e.g. height and Width first) so that it looks the most tidy? Another issue is that there are multiple ways to implement an interface with grids and stack panels. Is there a preferred approach when using one or the other? I am looking for advice and links to other resources that can be used as examples.

  Are there any similar frameworks like Sinatra, Ramaze etc in .NET? I'm in theory after a framework that let's me create an entire webapp with just one classfile (conceptually) like Sinatra. I'm going to use it for something work-internal, where ASP.NET MVC is too "big" (and I get confused by it's usage) and I have WebForms up to my ears right now (doing a big webforms based project, currently hating it ;) ) Any suggestions? Oh, and I need to be able to host it in IIS. I would go for IronRuby with Sinatra, but I can't find a step-by-step tut for setting it up in IIS ;)

• OpenGL ES, UIView and Status Bar mess

  I have iPhone (iPhoneOS 3.x) OpenGL ES app that: can be in landscape/portrait orientation can be with/without status bar shown I do this by changing status bar orientation and hidden state, then updating OpenGL view frame so it won't overlap status bar and setting projection matrix appropriately. OpenGL view is in portrait orientation at all time. View controller's shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: method returns false always, so the status bar won't start autorotating when app is in landscape mode. The problem I have is that I want to use some other UIViews, like: UIWebView, MFMailComposeView, MPMediaPicker. I could show them as modals, but this this have some drawbacks: views will always show in portrait orientation, even if they support landscape orientation views will not autorotate, even if they support it What I do is I take OpenGL view of the window with removeFromSuperview, set transform to the other view so it will be in portrait/landscape orientation when it shows up and place the other view on the window with addSubview:. This works fine without the status bar, but with it there are some problems I cannot work out: MPMediaPicker is sized to fit under status bar, but it slides under it anyway MFMailComposeView does not show navigation bar until it autorotates on device orientation change Does anyone has an idea how can I get it to work?

  I have a grid and when a row is double clicked a form is loaded. However a lot of data must be loaded, so I'd like to display a simple form with the text 'loading, please wait..'. And when all loading is finished, the form must disappear.   Is there a tool that can let one browse relational data as a graph of connected nodes? For example, i'm faced with trying to cleanse some anomolous data. i can start with two offending rows. In this particular example, the TransactionID should, by business rules, be unique to the table, but i find a transaction that violates that rule: SELECT * FROM LCTTrans WHERE TransactionID = 1075048 LCTID TransactionID ========= ============= 4358 1075048 4359 1075048 2 row(s) affected But really what i want to begin to hunt down all the related data, to try to see which is right. So this hypothetical software would start by showing me these two rows: Next, i want to see that transaction that is linked into this table: Now that transaction points to an MAL, so show me that: Now lets add those two LCTs, that the transaction is "on". A transaction can be on only one LCT, yet this one is pointing to two: Okay computer, both of those LCTs point to an MAL and the transaction that created them, show me those: Those last two transactions, they also point at an MAL, and they themselves point to an LCT, show me those: Okay, now are there any entries in LCTTrans that point to LCTs 4358 or 4359?... And so on, and so on. Now i did all this manually, running single selects, copying and pasting uniqueidentifier keys and converting them into friendly id numbers so i could easily see the relationships. Is there software that can do this?

• phpmyadmin shows numbers or blob for mysql's utf8_bin callation columns?

  Hi ! I have a table with a varchar column. Its collation is set to utf8_bin. My software using this table and column works perfectly. But when I look at the content in phpmyadmin, I only see some hex values or [Blob xB]. Can I make phpmyadmin show the content correctly? Besides, when I set the collation to utf8_general_ci or utf8_unicode_ci, the phpmyadmin shows the content correctly. Thx Marc [edit]Hah, I found out, there is a small "+Options" link above every table in phpmyadmin. It opens several options including "Show BLOB contents" - which makes the [blob] to readable text when enabled and "Show binary contents as HEX" which shows the hex codes as text when disabled. No idea why there are two options though and why sometimes there is a [Blob] and sometimes hex values. Well. Now I'm still wondering: Setting these options get lost when I go to another table. I have to set them every time I go there. Is there a way to save those options? [/edit]

  I'm having a difficult time understanding how to get Rails to show explicitly the error messages that a child resource is failing on when I render an XML template. Hypothetically, I have the following classes: class School < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :students validates_associated :students end class Student < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :school validates_format_of :email, :with => /^([^@\s]+)@((?:[-a-z0-9]+\.)+[a-z]{2,})$/i, :message => "You must supply a valid email" end Now, in the controller, let's say we want to build a trivial API to allow us to add a new School with a student in it (again, I said, it's a terrible example, but plays its role for the purpose of the question) class SchoolsController < ApplicationController def create @school = School.new @student = school.students.build @student.email = "bad@email" respond_to do |format| if @school.save # some code else format.xml { render :xml => @school.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end end Now the validation is working just fine, things die because the email doesn't match the regex that's set in the validates_format_of method in the Student class. However the output I get is the following: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <errors> <error>Students is invalid</error> </errors> I want the more meaningful error message that I set above with validates_format_of to show up. Meaning, I want it to say: <error>You must supply a valid email</error> What am I doing wrong for that not to show up?

I have a coordinates where I need draw a picture, width and height of it For example: I have 2 billion jpeg's images. for each images I have a specific origin point and size. In 1 second I need draw on view 20-50 images in specific point.   Hi, This is karthik. I am developing an app using mapview in iphone. I have to use two different pins to show user locations. That two users are different type . One user is belong to some category and another one is some other category. I have to check that category and want to plot pin depend upon that category. When I try to do that, that pin is not showing properly. For a certain category it shows another pin, not what i set there. Can anyone help me? What i need is i want to load two different pins in map depend upon some category. For example , if that category is shopping mall then i have to show building image then if there is any garden i have to show some other image at a same time not one by one . I want to plot two pins with different category at the same time. For that,what could i do? I tried lot of solution , but its not showing properly. Help me?

  Hey gang, Bear with me as I try to learn more about .htaccess redirect rules - I'm a UI guy by profession and I'm doing my best to enhance my coding skills languages other than HTML/CSS/PHP, etc So, what I have is an index.php file that contains a menu - pretty simple. If Javascript is enabled on the users computer then forms are shown below the menu using simple jQuery goodies, with each link having a 'return false;' applied. What I am trying to do is make the page accessible with JS turned off, so instead of redirecting the user to a different page, I would like to use POST or GET variables from each link, to show the various forms.. within the same index.php file - but have the URL reflect the menu choice Here is an example using menu items named - Home, About, Form1 and Form2: With JS on, clicking on of the above example buttons simply slides the form or containing the data down onto the page. With JS off, if the user clicks the 'About' link, I would like to rewrite the URL to be http://domain.com/about - but keep the user on the index.php page (since it is the only page) and be able to use POST or GET variable to show the using PHP. So, accessing http://domain.com/index.php?page=about would show http://domain.com/about in the URL but pass the GET variable 'page' to the index.php file. Hope that makes sense.. and I'm sure there are many ways to accomplish this, so if you have ideas of how to improve on it, by all means, I'd love to hear it ! Thanks again Revive

  I've got a column in a database which contains company names, and customer names all in one field... what I'd like to do is keep the CompanyName column completely intact, but wherever there is a comma in the CompanyName I'd like to take that information and populate it into a FirstName and LastName field. So that basically... Before: CompanyName: Big Company Inc Smith, John Sue, Maggie After: CompanyName: Big Company Inc Smith, John Sue, Maggie LastName: Smith Sue FirstName: John Maggie This one is pretty dang tricky for me...   I'm still getting my feet wet in PHP (my 1st language) and I've reached the competency level where I can code one page that handles all sorts of different related requests. They generally have a structure like this: (psuedo code) <?php include 'include/functions.php'; IF authorized IF submit (add data) ELSE IF update (update data) ELSE IF list (show special data) ELSE IF tab switch (show new area) ELSE display vanilla (show default) ELSE "must be registered/logged-in" ?> <HTML> // snip <?php echo $output; ?> // snip </HTML> and it all works nicely, and quite quickly which is cool. But I'm still sorta feeling my way in the dark... and would like some input from the pros regarding this type of page design... is it a good long-term structure? (it seems easily expanded...) are there security risks particular to this design? are there corners I should avoid painting myself into? Just curious about what lies ahead, really...

  My iPhone application connects to facebook . After i log in ,then appear one button named "Add feed to your wall". If i click it , pop a UIAlertView which ask "Yes" or "no". If "Yes", show the FBStreamDialog. But the BFStreamDialog just flash, then disappear. I don't know why. this is my code.   Here is my function: private void btnSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { wO_FlangeMillBundlesTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_FlangeMillBundles); wO_HeadMillBundlesTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_HeadMillBundles); wO_WebMillBundlesTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_WebMillBundles); int rowsaffected = wO_MillTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_Mill); MessageBox.Show(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_Mill.Rows[0]["GasReading"].ToString()); MessageBox.Show(rowsaffected.ToString()); } You can see the fourth update in the function uses the same functionality as the rest, I just have some debugging stuff added. The first three tables are bound to DataGridViews and work fine. The fourth table has it's members bound to various text boxes. When I change the value in the text box bound to the GasReading column and click save the first MessageBox does in fact show the new value, so it's making it into the dataset correctly. However, the rowsaffected is always showing 0 and the value in the actual database is not being updated. Can anyone see my problem? I understand that the problem must be elsewhere in my code since the four update methods are the same, but I just don't know where to start.

• Autocomplete Error Question - Ruby on Rails

  I have built a very simple blog application using Ruby on Rails. New to both Ruby and Rails so excuse the stupid questions. I currently have two tables that relate to this question. I have a Post table and a Tag table. Basically I set it up such that Post has_many :tags and Tag belongs_to :post. I am using AJAX to process and display the tags in the show view of the post. I installed the auto_complete plugin and I am getting an error when I enter the letters in the text_field_with_auto_complete for tag creation. My suspicion is this is because the form is a remote_form_for or something I am doing wrong in the routes.rb. • ASP.NET MVC Page - Dropdown control doesn't function with Keyboard Arrow Keys

  Hi I have a page that has a Dropdown control (ddlDeliveryMethod). So that when the user selects particular option from the Dropdown(using MOUSE), the respective Div ID's are loaded. But instead of Mouse, if we simply use the arrow keys from Keyboard, the respective DIV ID's are not showing. Is there any workaround for this. Appreciate your responses. • Use modrewrite to redirect a url with querystring

  I am trying to redirect an old URL that uses a query string to the new url that does not.. /tripinfo.cfm?RiverNameID=1&AdventureID=6 Now needs to go to /trips/big-ass-river/overnight.html So I am trying.. RewriteRule ^tripinfo.cfm?RiverNameID=1&AdventureID=6$ /trips/big-ass-river/overnight.html [R=301] But this is not working. . I can redirect the main page no problem using RewriteRule ^tripinfo.cfm$ /trips.html [R=301] If any one could tell me what Im missing that would be great.
