  • Do proxies really provide anonimity?

    Do web proxies really provide anonimity? I mean, without someone asking for logs in a web proxy server for who/when connected, is it impossible to know who was behind that ip? I'm asking this because I heard somewhere that some technologies (like "flash") bypass personal ip information for requests or something like that. (I'm a noob in server configuration and concepts like DNS and proxies. Thanks!)

    For Solaris 11 Express, what driver is supposed to be used? The M1015 is essentially a LSI 9240-8i From http://www.lsi.com/products/storagecomponents/Pages/MegaRAIDSAS9240-8i.aspx The only driver for Solaris is a old 32bit driver? I'd like to Flash it also, but can't seem to figure out which util to use.. The linux one from IBM screams for libraries that aren't included in the libraries section.

    So I am using the Uplodify plugin to allow users to upload multiple images at once. The problem is I need to set a minimum width and height for images. Let's say 150x150px is the smallest image users can upload. How can I set this limitation in the Uploadify plugin? When user tries to upload smaller picture, I would like to display some error message as well.     I am attempting to create an enrollment process similar to SO's: route to an OpenID provider provider returns the user's information to the UsersController (a guess) UsersController creates user, then routes to the ProfilesController's new or edit action. For now, I'm simply trying to create the user, then route to the ProfilesController's new or edit action (not sure which I should be using).     Hello stackoverflow, I'm working on an Ruby on Rails application (2.3.x) and i want to make a form that lets the user login or register. I want to do this in the same form. But i want to use the validates_presence_of methods and i don't want to slap the "conventions over configurations" in the face. So another thing i have tried is adding a hidden field to the form: #login form <%= f.hidden_field :login, :value => true %> # and ofcourse set it to false if we want to register. And login isn't a attribute for the user object. But i thought that in this way i could validate the email and password params if the user wants to login. And all the other attrs if the user want to register. So all i could think of doesn't work how i want it to work. So my main goal is this: 1 form for login/register with the use of the validation methods in the user model. So if we want to login but don't fill in any information = give validation errors. And if the user wants to login but the email/password combination doens't match give the "@user.errors.add(:email, "the combination wasn't found in the db...")". And the same goes for user register... Thanks in advance!

    I have troubles installing VC runtime libraries to be able to install SQL Server Compact Edition. The same problem causes also other apps to fail when installing, but I chose this one as a good representative example of my problem (and also it's provided by Microsoft, so "installation should work"). Allow the physical topology (which ports are connected together) to be gleaned from the switches, e.g., using SNMP traps. This is optional, but would be very useful. At least 5 ports on each switch, but only 3 will be used for connecting the switches together. Be as compact as possible. Ideally be in stock, in the UK. Only 100Mb/s is required.   • /lib/udev/net.agent causing high CPU usage

    We have a number of Soekris boxes running Debian Squeeze. They were installed through an automated process consisting of using deboostrap and copying it unto a Compact Flash card. We use puppet to manage the configuration of all these boxes. Before Debian Squeeze, they were running Voyage Linux which is just a "lighter" version of Debian. Since we have switched, we're seeing the /lib/udev/net.agent process take up an aweful lot of CPU. We have so far been unable to find any clue as to what this really does and why it's taking up some much CPU time. In htop we see the following : We are seeing absolutly no syslog messages related to this process so we're a bit lost... So, I am looking for pointers as to what this process does in general and what could be the potential cause of such CPU usage.

    I'd like a read only file system that runs almost entirely in RAM but the compact flash or hardrive can be mounted and made writeable to make persistent changes. How do I do this on Linux? I've looked at several tutorials but none really explain how to create such a system with the option of being able to mount the storage device and make persistent changes.   • How to Shrink large Hyper-V VM

    Using Disk2VHD utility I converted my bare-metal OS into Hyper-V VHD - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx And I could obtain a huge 190GB VHD file. Apart from performance issues, this VHD worked fine as guest when hosted on Windows Server 200 R2, Hyper-V. Having realized need to keeping only system files and application installations on VHD. I have deleted most of the junk data from this VHD and now it contains only 20-25 GB. But I am not able to shrink the VHD VM. Having done some research, I came to know, this as a limitation of .VHD files. Subsequently I followed these two step using Edit Virtual Hard Wizard on Windows 2012 Box. Convert from VHD to VHDX (took close to 3 hrs.) Compact (Another 4 hrs.) This did not ever shrink the VHDX either. Does Hyper-V does not provide proper support to handle large VHDs or VHDXs whose size are the range of 200GB.

    Hello, I have a strange cord that has a male 3.5mm headphone jack on one side, and some component video and audio ouputs on the other. When I plug the headphone side into my computer, and the other side into my TV, I get audio across the cable, but no video. How can I send some video over the headphone jack in OS X? I know you can, because this cable is actually for a Beyblade toy and it somehow transferred video over this cable. Thanks, Isaac I think I found some more information (from Wikipedia:) "A four conductor version (of a 3.5mm headphone jack) is becoming a de facto standard output connector for compact camcorders, providing stereo sound plus a video signal." So how can I do this on Mac?

  • A minimal Linux distribution for my ASUS EEE PC

    I recently bought myself a ASUS EEE 1000HE and I intend to use it for note-taking and light browsing at the University. The machine has a 10" screen so the interface needs to be very compact. I've already tried: EEEbuntu: Very nice driver support and out of the box experience. But I feel that it is too slow booting and the general experience is too heavy in my opinion. Moblin 2: Looks very cool, boots just fine but is way too unstable to use. Also find it annoying that I can't find hotkey documentation anywhere. Any Netbook OS recommendation welcome (although those specific to my model would be great). There is an entire jungle of distributions out there, so if you've been on a safari, please share your experience.

    Since two or three updates Skype insists taking up a taskbar slot for its main window (I set it to use the “Compact View”, but it applies to the default view as well). Since I don't need the main window most of the time since I have individual windows for the contacts I'm writing to this is ? a taskbar button wasted if no other Skype windows are open and ? still in the way when there are other windows open as it's a window I never need but still sometimes mis-click on when the thumbnails show up. Is there a way to send Skype to the Notification area again?

  • Boot Camp fails to create a Windows partition because it can't move files

    I'm running Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on a mac with a 320 GB drive, 167GB free space, and I can't get Boot Camp running. The wizard starts creating the Windows partition, but fails with a message claiming it cannot move some files. The message suggests to back up my hard disk, reformat it, restore my files, and re-run Boot Camp wizard. The problem is: Though I do have backups (Time Machine), I don't feel like formatting my hard disk right now :-) I found a thread in some forum discussing this problem. The suggestion was to defragment my volume with iDefrag, and lots of people claimed that solved the issue. So I went ahead and got iDefrag 1.7.1, created a bootable DVD and chose the "compact" setting recommended before partitioning - but still no luck with Boot Camp! So how do I get this working? Fun note: last year, I briefly set up Boot Camp with 10.5, and it worked perfectly. Probably I did not use that much hard disk space back then...

Although, I really like Dell Zino (http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/inspiron-zino-hd/pd.aspx?refid=inspiron-zino-hd&cs=19&s=dhs) as a very economical and compact PC which can be scaled to 8GB of RAM, I do not know how to have a RAID setup, for the backup. Is there an economical way to add a RAID setup to Dell Zino or I would have to invest in a proper box for that?     Recently, I started to get a large noise from my PC when switched on. After some time, it disappears. I discovered that the issue is with the Power Supply Unit. Does this mean I have a failing PSU? Will it harm the PC if I didn't replace it immediately? Several years ago I bought a new computer casing which is very weird. Its small and compact. Normally, we have the PSU in the top. But in here, the PSU is on the bottom and right below the hard drive. Recently, two of my hard drives started to show problems. Read errors and bad sectors.   • Unrecognized file format .mdb in Microsoft Access -- repair doesn't fix it

    So what I have is a file from a staff computer that I believe is an access file b/c its called .mdb, however it does not open! I even tried to follow the repair steps (create a new file and use the "compact and repair" tool. and all I keep getting is "unrecognized file format *.mdb" (replace the * with the filename). I am not even sure it is an access file. I have tried using Office 2007 and office 2010 but neither work. Is there a way to fix this that is not on the Microsoft website? Or to determine whether this is actually an access file and not some other file with the extension renamed? Any help would be appricated, thanks.

    I'd like to have a solution to batch convert video files to a format suitable for the AppleTV2, iPad2, iPhone4, while at the same time preserving as much quality as possible; I want a single output file that will play on both devices and also good for consumption by other Mac software (eg. Aperture, iMovie, iTunes). Batch processing is a requirement since I'm gonna convert many many files from different sources (mainly lots of videos captured by compact digital cameras, cell phones, and so on). I'm looking into ffmpeg and MEncoder (both installed via MacPorts), but I can't seem to find a suitable preset for libx264 even if everyone out there is talking about them. A different approach involving different software would be ok too as long as I can script it somehow and run it on a whole directory full of files to be converted.

    I'm trying to understand what an MBR is. I know it is used to boot the device, like a compact flash card. If you had five 1GB CF card from SanDisk for a camera, would there be any reason for the manufacturer to have different MBRs? It seems like to me, if for some reason one CF card wouldn't boot, you could copy the MBR from a working CF card and write it to the non-working CF card. Would this MBR for a SanDisk card work on the same size Western Digital card for the same use? Thanks!

    I am creating a model-first Entity Framework 4 app that uses SQL CE as its data store. All is well until I call ObjectContext.SaveChanges() to save changes to the entities in the model.   • using ajax to post comments in cakephp results in 404 error, but no errors locally?

    Using an ajax helper created for use with Jquery I've created a form that posts comments to "/comments/add", and this works as expected on my local wamp server but not on my production server. On my production server I get a '404 error, cannot find /comments/add'. I've spent quite a bit of time searching for a resolution with no luck so far. I've focused on trying to identify a gap but nothing jumps out at me. I should also point out that I'm using jquery, jquery.form and jquery.editable as well as a ajax helper created to be used with jquery.
