• XForms and multiple inputs for same model tag

  Hi! I apologize ahead of time if I am not asking this properly.. it is hard to put into words what I am asking.. I have XForms model such as: <file> <criteria> <criterion></criterion> </criteria> </file> I want to have multiple input text boxes that create a new criterion tag. user interface such as: <xf:input ref="/file/criteria/criterion" model="select_data"> <xf:label>Select</xf:label> </xf:input> <xf:input ref="/file/criteria/criterion" model="select_data"> <xf:label>Select</xf:label> </xf:input> <xf:input ref="/file/criteria/criterion" model="select_data"> <xf:label>Select</xf:label> </xf:input> And I would like the XML output to look like this (once user has entered in info): <file> <criteria> <criterion>AAA</criterion> <criterion>BBB</criterion> <criterion>CCC</criterion> </criteria> </file> The way I have it doesn't work, as it sees the 3 input fields to be referring all to the same criterion tag. END FIRST EDIT BEGIN SECOND EDIT: For the listboxes (ie xf:select appearance="compact") I ended up allowing the spaces to occur in the same node and then just transformed that xml using xsl to generate a properly formatted new xml doc (with separate individual nodes). Unfortunately, I did not find a less cumbersome solution by inserting them originally into separate nodes. • Coming up with manageable game ideas as a hobbyist game developer

  I'm trying to come up with ideas for games to develop - as per the advice on this question I've started jotting down and brainstorming my ideas as I get them, and it has worked relatively well - I now have a growing collection of ideas that I think are relatively original. The trouble is that I'm a solo hobbyist developer so my time is limited (and I have short attention span!) I've decided to set myself a limit of 1 working week (i.e. 35-40 hours) to develop / prototype my game, but all of the ideas that really spark my imagination are far too complex to be achievable in that sort of time (e.g. RTS or RPG style gameplay), and none of my simpler ideas really strike me as being that good (and whenever I get a flash of inspiration I invariably end up making things more complicated!) Am I being too picky - should I just take one of my simpler ideas and have a go?

• Diagnose PC Hardware Problems with an Ubuntu Live CD

  So your PC randomly shuts down or gives you the blue screen of death, but you can’t figure out what’s wrong. The problem could be bad memory or hardware related, and thankfully the Ubuntu Live CD has some tools to help you figure it out. Test your RAM with memtest86+ RAM problems are difficult to diagnose—they can range from annoying program crashes, or crippling reboot loops. Even if you’re not having problems, when you install new RAM it’s a good idea to thoroughly test it. The Ubuntu Live CD includes a tool called Memtest86+ that will do just that—test your computer’s RAM! Unlike many of the Live CD tools that we’ve looked at so far, Memtest86+ has to be run outside of a graphical Ubuntu session. Fortunately, it only takes a few keystrokes. Note: If you used UNetbootin to create an Ubuntu flash drive, then memtest86+ will not be available. We recommend using the Universal USB Installer from Pendrivelinux instead (persistence is possible with Universal USB Installer, but not mandatory). Boot up your computer with a Ubuntu Live CD or USB drive. You will be greeted with this screen: Use the down arrow key to select the Test memory option and hit Enter. Memtest86+ will immediately start testing your RAM. If you suspect that a certain part of memory is the problem, you can select certain portions of memory by pressing “c” and changing that option. You can also select specific tests to run. However, the default settings of Memtest86+ will exhaustively test your memory, so we recommend leaving the settings alone. Memtest86+ will run a variety of tests that can take some time to complete, so start it running before you go to bed to give it adequate time. Test your CPU with cpuburn Random shutdowns – especially when doing computationally intensive tasks – can be a sign of a faulty CPU, power supply, or cooling system. A utility called cpuburn can help you determine if one of these pieces of hardware is the problem. Note: cpuburn is designed to stress test your computer – it will run it fast and cause the CPU to heat up, which may exacerbate small problems that otherwise would be minor. It is a powerful diagnostic tool, but should be used with caution. Boot up your computer with a Ubuntu Live CD or USB drive, and choose to run Ubuntu from the CD or USB drive. When the desktop environment loads up, open the Synaptic Package Manager by clicking on the System menu in the top-left of the screen, then selecting Administration, and then Synaptic Package Manager. Cpuburn is in the universe repository. To enable the universe repository, click on Settings in the menu at the top, and then Repositories. Add a checkmark in the box labeled “Community-maintained Open Source software (universe)”. Click close. In the main Synaptic window, click the Reload button. After the package list has reloaded and the search index has been rebuilt, enter “cpuburn” in the Quick search text box. Click the checkbox in the left column, and select Mark for Installation. Click the Apply button near the top of the window. As cpuburn installs, it will caution you about the possible dangers of its use. Assuming you wish to take the risk (and if your computer is randomly restarting constantly, it’s probably worth it), open a terminal window by clicking on the Applications menu in the top-left of the screen and then selection Applications > Terminal. Cpuburn includes a number of tools to test different types of CPUs. If your CPU is more than six years old, see the full list; for modern AMD CPUs, use the terminal command burnK7 and for modern Intel processors, use the terminal command burnP6 Our processor is an Intel, so we ran burnP6. Once it started up, it immediately pushed the CPU up to 99.7% total usage, according to the Linux utility “top”. If your computer is having a CPU, power supply, or cooling problem, then your computer is likely to shutdown within ten or fifteen minutes. Because of the strain this program puts on your computer, we don’t recommend leaving it running overnight – if there’s a problem, it should crop up relatively quickly. Cpuburn’s tools, including burnP6, have no interface; once they start running, they will start driving your CPU until you stop them. To stop a program like burnP6, press Ctrl+C in the terminal window that is running the program. Conclusion The Ubuntu Live CD provides two great testing tools to diagnose a tricky computer problem, or to stress test a new computer. While they are advanced tools that should be used with caution, they’re extremely useful and easy enough that anyone can use them. • Ubuntu Installation Help for an IBM R31 Thinkpad

  I recently acquired an old IBM R31 Thinkpad, and I'd figure I'd install Lubuntu on it. I've followed the quick steps for USB installation on the help wiki page, but I can't seem to get it to boot from my formatted flash drive. I've checked the boot priority on the BIOS page, but the option to boot from USB doesn't even seem to be there. The only bootable options are legacy and USB floppy drives. The CD drive is shot, so I can't install from there either. Do I have any other options for installation without having to pay for a floppy drive or a replacement CD drive? The wiki pages mentions something about installation from within Windows. Would it be possible to remove Windows using this option, or would it just create a partition? Thanks

  Hi! In Hungary, the biggest TV channel is RTL Klub, they has a video archive site. They use Silverlight instead of Flash :( What is annoying, they use the lastest version of Silverlight, about 4.x. But Moonlight doesn't support it yet. I've been tried in Google Chrome (last dev version), and in Firefox (last stable version), and I've been used the both versions of Moonlight, the lastest stable, and the prerelease. The player loader is displayed, and loaded, but no player displayed after 30 mins waiting. If I want to swith to Ubuntu completly, how can I manage to play these videos? Thanks for your anwsers.   Developers of Windows Mobile 6.x (and indeed Windows CE) applications still use the rich .NET Compact Framework 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008 for development. That is still a great platform and the Mobile Development Handbook is still a useful resource (if I may say so myself :-). The release of Windows Phone 7, changes the programming paradigm. The programming model has NETCF in its guts, but the developer uses the Silverlight or XNA APIs (and they can call from one into the other). I thought I'd gather here (for your reference and mine) the top 10 resources for getting started. Windows Phone Developer Home - get the official word and latest announcements. Windows Phone Developer Tools RTW - download the free developer tools (on my machine the installation took 30 minutes, over my existing vanilla Visual Studio 2010 install). Windows Phone 7 Jump Start video training - watch the 12 sessions by Wigley/Miles. Windows Phone 7 Developer Training Kit - work through the labs. Windows Phone RSS tag - channel9 has tons more WP7 videos, stay tuned. Windows Phone 7 in 7 Minutes - watch 20 7-minute videos. Programming Windows Phone 7 - read 11 free chapters from Petzold's eBook. The Windows Phone Developer Blog - subscribe to the official blog. • why must i uninstall libavcodec53 and libavutil51 to install ubuntu restricted extras

  When I try to install "ubuntu restricted extras" in "ubuntu software center", it displays a warning dialog that says the following items must be removed: libavcodec53 libavutil51 Why? And if I choose to install "ubuntu restricted extras", what will I lose? PS: I think I noticed libavcodec53 flash past as my daily build of codeblocks package was installing... so that's one possibility. Will I break my software development environment if I install "ubuntu restricted extras"? Or do these packages need to be removed because they are included in "ubuntu restricted extras"? If so, why doesn't the dialog mention that (and remove the worry and confusion)? PS: The output generated by "apt-get -s install ubuntu-restricted-extras" is HERE.
