• Design Patterns Recommendation for Filtering Option

  Hi people, I am thinking to create a filter object which filters and delete everything like html tags from a context. But I want it to be independent which means the design pattern I can apply will help me to add more filters in the future without effecting the current codes. I thought Abstract Factory but it seems it ain't gonna work out the way I want. So maybe builder but it looks same. I don't know I am kinda confused, some one please recommend me a design pattern which can solve my problem but before that let me elaborate the problem a little bit. Lets say I have a class which has Description field or property what ever. And I need filters which remove the things I want from this Description property. So whenever I apply the filter I can add more filter in underlying tier. So instead of re-touching the Description field, I can easily add more filters and all the filters will run for Description field and delete whatever they are supposed to delete from the Description context. I hope I could describe my problem. I think some of you ran into the same situation before. Thanks in advance...

• google maps api v3 - loop through overlays - overlayview methods

• Grails Mail port configuration

  Hello, I am trying to send mail through grails mail plugin. I configured according to the documentation, and also followed few blog posts (http://blog.lourish.com/2010/04/02/sending-asynchronous-html-email-in-grails-with-activemq-jms-and-gmail/). That post mention that the closure way of declaring the configuration overrides others, but not true. Anyway I tried both approach, but seems like the port is still use the smtp default one. I get the below exception. exception: org.springframework.mail.MailSendException: Mail server connection failed; nested exception is javax.mail.MessagingException: Could not connect to SMTP host: localhost, port: 25; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect Now, I wrote a small program directly using the java mail library, and I could send the mail with that. The configuration is shown below. tried additional config "mail.smtp.port":"465"", but no change.. used the parameters mentioned in the above blog post, result same grails { mail { host = "smtp.gmail.com" port = "465" username = "[email protected]" password = "mypwd" props = ["mail.smtp.auth":"true", // "mail.smtp.port":"465", "mail.smtp.socketFactory.port":"465", "mail.smtp.socketFactory.class":"javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory", "mail.smtp.socketFactory.fallback":"false"] } } thanks in advance.. Update: It is not port or firewall config, as when I made a grails application from scratch, and tried with the same config, everything works.   Hi everyone, i recently started on a project which is a puzzle slider game. This application will be using the Bluetooth, and i'm working on the mobile,Samsung omnia i900. This is how my application will work. Any user with this Samsung device plays the game and starts sliding the tiles. There is an option to search and connect to other users with the same device and application, so that they can solve the puzzle together. Right now, i'm working on the Bluetooth Part but am still new to the API. I'm using the 32feet.NET inthehandpersonal.net class library while encountering much difficulties. Next i went on to trying to sending a simple "testing.txt" file and i'm stucked at it. I think i will be using something like the OBEX and Obexwebrequest, obexwebresponse, Uri etc. Could anyone explain it in simple terms for me so that i could understand what they are so that i could continue pairing and etc on Bluetooth development. • UIView rotation, modal view lanscape and portrait, parent fails to render

  Hi everyone, I've hit a bit of a roadblock with something that I hope that someone in here can help me out with. I'll describe the 'state of play' first, and then what the issue is, so here goes; I have a series of view controllers that are chained together with a Navigation Controller (this works just fine), All of these view controllers support portrait mode only (by design), In one of the view controllers (the 'end' one actually) the user can click a table cell to pop up a modal view controller (using presentModalViewController(...) of course) This modal view controller supports portrait and landscape modes (and this works), When the user clicks the 'Done' button on this modal view controller we pop and pass control back to the parent view controller, however; If the user is in portrait mode when they click 'Done' then the parent displays itself just fine, If the user is in landscape mode when they click 'Done' then the parent displays a totally white, blank screen (that covers the whole screen). It is as if the controller does not know how to render in landscape and just doesn't bother. I'd like to be able to have this parent view render in portrait no matter what the orientation of the phone is when the user clicks the 'Done' button. Various forum posts suggest using the UIDevice method 'setOrientation' (but this is undocumented and will get our app rejected apparently). Another suggestion was to set the 'statusBarOrientation' to portrait in the 'viewWillAppear' method but that had no effect. So I am a bit stuck! Has any encountered anything like this before? If need be I can provide code, if that will help anyone diagnose the problem for me. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Ben

• Using Java PDFBox library to write Russian PDF

  I am using a Java library called PDFBox trying to write text to a PDF. It works perfect for English text, but when i tried to write Russian text inside the PDF the letters appeared so strange. It seems the problem is in the font used, but i am not so sure about that, so i hope if anyone could guide me through this. • Compile time Meta-programming, with string literals.

  I'm writing some code which could really do with some simple compile time metaprogramming. It is common practise to use empty-struct tags as compile time symbols. I need to decorate the tags with some run-time config elements. static variables seem the only way to go (to enable meta-programming), however static variables require global declarations. to side step this Scott Myers suggestion (from the third edition of Effective C++), about sequencing the initialization of static variables by declaring them inside a function instead of as class variables, came to mind. So I came up with the following code, my hypothesis is that it will let me have a compile-time symbols with string literals use-able at runtime. • Add a :filter param to the end of a url

  Hello, I am building an application that requires a search to go deeper than the initial level. I am using nested scopes to accomplish this and params in the URL For example, when a user searches for "handbag" it creates a query like the following. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go! I want to add a :filter param to the end of this url and reload the page with the new url. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go!&filter=lowest_price As shown above the &filter=lowest_price is added to the query. I have already written controller code to handle this and I know it works as long as the query is like the 2nd link above. my views code <div class = "filter_options"> <p> <strong>Filter by:</strong> <%= link_to_unless_current "Recent", :filter => 'recent' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Lowest Price", :filter => 'lowest_price' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Highest Price", :filter => 'highest_price' %> </p> </div> This is how I have it currently, which works if my URL does not have a search string attached to it. Unfortunately, this will go to a http://localhost:3000/junks?filter=lowest_price even if there is a search string. I would like to know how to create my links so that they add onto the search string shown in the 2nd code example. Additionally, if a search string with a filter is already present, it would only change that filter and resubmit the search string with the new filter. I hope I am being clear.

• Implementing Autocompletion in iPhone UITextField for contacts in address book

  Hi, I would like to have a UITextField or UITextView in where as I do some input, alternatives will appear something similar to when you type an address in Mail Application, alternatives appear down and is possible tap them so get a better input user interface.(since there is no need to type the complete word or address or phone number) I do know how to fetch data from Address Book framework, also how to input text in UITextField/UITextView and its delegates but I don't know what kind of structure to use for fetching and showing data as the user do his/her input. I know basic CoreData if this matters, I hope I can get some help. UPDATE (2010/3/10): I don't have problem make a native-like GUI but I am asking about the algorithm, does any body knows what kind algorithm is best for this thing? maybe some binary tree? Or should I just fetch data from coredata everytime? Thanks Ignacio UPDATE (2010/03/28): I've been very busy these days, so I have not tried UISearchResults but it seems fine to me. • WPF creating custom control - creating control like SpinBox extending TextBox

  Hi, What is the best way to extend a control? Lets choose for example SpinBox - we want to extend TextBox to SpinBox - just to add two buttons on the right side, which each one on click checks if Text property is a valid number and if it is increases or decreases the value by 1. Suposse that we have a lot of code using TextBox (Text, IsReadOnly properties and bindings etc.) so we want to replace TextBox by SpinBox without touching rest of the code. 1) we can inherit TextBox - so we have exactly the same interface, but how to add the buttons ?? 2) we can inherit from some layout control - eg. DockPanel - we can add buttons, but we lose TextBox interface. 3) after quick read about ControlTemplates I'm not sure, but I believe that we can add buttons and their logic using ControlTemplates 4) like about templates I'm not sure, but I hope we can inherit decorator class to create decorator with the buttons - we lose interface, but can add TextBox as a child I think that the best solutions is to combine 3) and 4) - create a decorator class and use it in a control template for TextBox. I would be grateful for your ideas and simple code how to implement 3 and 4, especially with code (c#), not xaml. Regards

  Hey All, I want something like this: http://cybernetnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/windows-7-wireless.jpg This window is not resizable, and aligns itself above the system tray icon which it is related to. I have this: http://i.imgur.com/79FZi.png Which is resizeable, and it goes wherever it feels like. If you click the volume control in Win 7, it always pops up directly above the icon. This is ideal. I've found this reference which I think is trying to solve the same problem (can't tell though as the images are dead), http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2169006/create-a-system-tray-styled-box-in-winforms-c but I'm using WPF and I'm not sure how to get these Form objects they refer to from my Window object. • Click in a ListView item changes status of elements inside the item?

  Hi, I don't know exactly how to explain this problem, but I'll try. I have a ListView with several items. Each item has inside a TextView and two ImageView. I want the ImageView change when I click on them, and I want to open a context menu when I press for a long time into the ListView item. For the ImageView, everything works properly. For the whole item, I can show the context menu after a long press, but my problem is that the ImageView changes as well when I am pressing the TextView, for example. • cascading combo box causing empty fields in next record

  Hi there, I'm having problems with a cascading combo box. Everything works fine with the combo boxes and the values get populated correctly. Everything works fine and dandy moving between records and the boxes show the correct fields for each record. When i use the first combo box, and then select the appropriate option in the second combo box, everything works great on the specific record. However when I move to the next record, the values in the second combo box are all empty. If i close the form and reopen it, and avoid using the cascading combo boxes all the values are all correct when i move between records. Somehow using the cascading combo boxes creates a conflict with the row source of the secondary combo box. Hope that is clear!   Hi. I want to use this plugin, but I don't know if it'll meet all of my requirements. I know I have to use JSON to fetch the data from the server and then use it at the client side, is that right?. For now, that's fine, because I only have very few records, but when I have thousands of ; will it be convenient to bring all the data at once? What I would like to know is : Is there any way to query the database every time I press the number of an specific page? I ask this cause I don't think is a good idea to load all the data in one go, is it?   For all my present Diff / Merge needs I'm using Beyond Compare; when I decided to buy a license for it I tried other similar tools, both payware and freeware. Now BC is at version 3, and I think it's a great tool... but what are your experience in this field? Do you think there is something better? And what are the feature you like best on your favorite Diff tool? • How to mock HTTPSession/FlexSession with TestNG and some Mocking Framework

  I'm developing a web application running on Tomcat 6, with Flex as Frontend. I'm testing my backend with TestNG. Currently, I'm trying to test the following method in my Java-Backend: public UserPE login(String mail, String password) { UserPE dbuser = findUserByMail(mail); if (dbuser == null || !dbuser.getPassword().equals(password)) throw new RuntimeException("Invalid username and/or password"); // Save logged in user FlexSession session = FlexContext.getFlexSession(); session.setAttribute("user", dbuser); return dbuser; } The method needs access to the FlexContext which only exists when i run it on the Servlet container (don't bother if you don't know Flex, it's more a Java-Mocking question in general). Otherwise i get a Nullpointer exception when calling session.setAttribute(). Unfortunately, I cannot set the FlexContext from outside, which would make me able to set it from my tests. It's just obtained inside the method. What would be the best way to test this method with a Mocking framework, without changing the method or the class which includes the method? And which framework would be the easiest for this use case (there are hardly other things i have to mock in my app, it's pretty simple)? Sorry I could try out all of them for myself and see how i could get this to work, but i hope that i'll get a quickstart with some good advices!

• Integrate Google Maps API into an iPhone app

  Update: iPhone SDk 3.0 now addresses the question here, however the NDA prevents any in depth discussion. Log in to the iPhone Dev Center if you need more info. Ok, I have to admit I'm a little lost here. I am fairly comfortable with Cocoa, but am having trouble picking up the bit of javascript needed to solve this problem. I am trying to send a request to Google for a reverse geo code. I have looked over the Google documentation I have viewed here: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/index.html http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/geocoding/ Even after a rough reading, I am missing a basic concept: How do I talk to google? In some examples, they show a url being sent to google (which seems easy enough), but in others they show javascript. It seems for reverse geocoding, the request might be be harder than sending the url with some parameters (but I hope I am wrong). Can someone point me to the correct way to make a request? (In objective-C, so I can wrap my head around it)

• LGPL and Dual Licensing Ajax Library

  Hi guys, I'm the previous founder of Gaiaware and Gaia Ajax Widgets and when I used to work there we had this rhetoric (which I have confirmed with some very smart FOSS people is correct) that when using a GPL Ajax library you're basically "distributing" the JavaScript which in turn makes the GPL viral clause kick in and forces people to purchase a proprietary license if they're going to build Closed Source stuff... So now I'm the the LGPL world here with Ra-Ajax which is an LGPL licensed library and I've got no intentions of creating a GPL licensed library since I believe strongly in that the LGPL is the "enabler" of the Open Web to prevail. But something interesting have happened which I think might still give me a "business model" here which is the Linking clause of the LGPL which I think goes something like this (pseudo); "If you link to an LGPL licensed thing you get no restrictions on your own derived works"... But so we started creating something we're calling Ajax Starter-Kits which effectively is a "Project Kickstarter" where you can download a finished project/solution which basically enables you to start out with some pre-done boiler plate code for problems such as Ajax DataGrids, Ajax Calendar Applications, Ajax TreeView Applications etc. And the funny thing is that our users would NOT "link" to these, they would effectively BE our users applications... So to wrap up my question. Would this force users of our LGPL licensed Ajax Starter-Kits to LGPL license their own work? Basically if it does we have a business model (and I get very happy) if not I'd just have to hope people would still like to pay us those $29 for our Starter-Kits to support the project... ;) Help rewarded with extreme gratitude...

• C# mvc2 client side form validation with xval, prevent post

  I'm using xval to use client side validation in my asp.net mvc2 webapplication. Despite the errors it's giving when i enter text in a nummeric field it still tries to post the form to the database. The incorrect values are being replaced by 0 and saved to the database. But instead it shouldn't even be possible to try and submit the form. Can anyone help me out here? I've set the attributes as below; [Property] [ShowColumnInCrud(true, label = "FromPriceInCents")] [Required] //[Range(1, Int32.MaxValue)] public virtual Int32 FromPriceInCents{ get; set; } The controller catching the request looks as below; I'm getting no errors in this part. [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [Transaction] [ValidateInput(false)] public override ActionResult Create() { //some foo happens } My view looks like below; <div class="label"><label for="Price">FromPrice</label></div> <div class="field"> <%= Html.TextBox("FromPriceInCents")%> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("product.FromPriceInCents")%></div> And at the end of the view i have the following rule which in html code generates the correct validation rules <%= Html.ClientSideValidation<Product>("Product") %> I hope someone can helps me out with this issue, thanks in advance!

• Does Google Maps API v3 allow larger zoom values ?

  If you use the satellite GMapType using this Google-provided example in v3 of the API, the maximum zoom level has a scale of 2m / 10ft , whereas using the v2 version of another Google-provided example (had to use another one since the control-simple doesn't have the scale control) yields the maximum scale of 20m / 50ft. Is this a new "feature" of v3 ? I have to mention that I've tested the examples in the same GLatLng regions - so my guess is that tile detail level doesn't influence it, am I mistaken ? As mentioned in another question, v3 is to be considered of very Labs-y/beta quality, so use in production should be discouraged for the time being. I've been drawn to the subject since I have to "increase the zoom level of a GMap", the answers here seem to suggest using GTileLayer, and I'm considering GMapCreator, although this will involve some effort. What I'm trying to achieve is to have a larger zoom level, a scale of 2m / 10ft would be perfect, I have a map where the tiles aren't that hi-res and quite a few markers. Seeing that the area doesn't have hi-res tiles, the distance between the markers is really tiny, creating some problematic overlapping. Or better yet, how can you create a custom Map which allows higher zoom levels, as by the Google Campus, where the 2m / 10ft scale is achieved, and not use your own tileserver ? I've seen an example on a fellow Stackoverflower's GMaps sandbox , where the tiles are manually created based on the zoom level. I don't think I'm making any more sense, so I'm just going to end this big question here, I've been wondering around trying to find a solution for hours now. Hope that someone comes to my aid though ! Thank you in advance !

• Why Does My Website Redirect me to my localhost?

  Alright, my website has some issues that I'm not sure what's causing them. Visit this page http://online-file-sharing.net/tos.html and click one of the bottom footer links... it redirects you to your localhost in the address bar. I have no idea why it does this. I'm hosting this website on my own server, which is this computer, and using Xampp. If this information helps. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm also using DYNDNS as my nameservers. I've already ask this question on superuser and webapps QnA sites neither could help. They said to come here. Another thing to note is that this website runs on one script and not multiple scripts (upload.cgi). However there are three files that aren't dynamic and aren't part of the upload.cgi file... these are about.html, browse.html and tos.html.
