• How can I speed up the rendering of my WPF ListBox?

  I have a WPF ListBox control (view code) and I am keeping maybe like 100-200 items in it. Every time the ObservableCollection it is bound to changes though it takes it a split second to update and it freezes the whole UI. Is there a way to add elements incrementally or something I can do to improve the performance of this control?

• Ruby on Rails: Accessing production database data for testing

  With Ruby on Rails, is there a way for me to dump my production database into a form that the test part of Rails can access? I'm thinking either a way to turn the production database into fixtures, or else a way to migrate data from the production database into the test database that will not get routinely cleared out by Rails. I'd like to use this data for a variety of tests, but foremost in my mind is using real data with the performance tests, so that I can get a realistic understanding of load times.

• Post ASP.Net Form data to another page

  I have an ASP.Net Page, aspx with its default form. I have a Submit Button for it. Upon clicking, it will post the data to itself. In other words, Button Click Event() from code behind will execute the necessary. After that, I would like to post the same data to another ASp.Net Page, aspx from another domain. So, how can I do it? I tried creating a Form in Button Click Event and a javascript to Submit the Form so that it will post. But the Form is not appearing hence there is already aForm` on the page. Is there anyway to do it?

• Show only Parent Forums on bbPress front page

  I want to show only the very top level forums on my front page. I have tried: <?php if ( bb_forums("depth=1") ) : ?> But that didn't work and all the forums still show up. I only want to show the very top level, so for example if I have the following forums: Main - Sub Forum 1 - Sub Forum 2 --- Sub Forum 2.1 --- Sub Forum 2.1 - Sub Forum 3 Community - Sub Forum 1 - Sub Forum 2 --- Sub Forum 2.1 --- Sub Forum 2.1 - Sub Forum 3 Only Main and Community would appear on the home page. I would seem I need to create a custom loop on the front page that will only show the very top level forums, but I need some help. Thanks.

• Core Animation performance on iphone

  I'm trying to do some animations using Core Animation on the iphone. I'm using CABasicAnimation on CALayer. It's a straight forward animation from a random place at the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen at random speed, I have 30 elements that doing the same animation continuously until another action happens. But the performance on the iPhone 3G is very sluggish when the animations start. The image is only 8k. Is this the right approach? • Update image in ASP.NET page from memory without refreshing the page.

  I have a command line C# server and an ASP.NET client, they both communicate via .NET Remoting. The server is sending the client still images grabbed from a webcam at say 2 frames a second. I can pass the images down to the client via a remote method call and the image ends up in this client method: public void Update(System.Drawing.Image currentFrame) { // I need to display the currentFrame on my page. } How do i display the image on the a page without saving the image to the hard disc? If it was a winForms app i could pass currentFrame to a picturebox ie. picturebox.Image = currentFrame. The above Update method gets fired at least 2 times a second. If the client was a winForms app i could simply put picturebox.Image = currentFrame and the current frame on the screen would automatically get updated. How do i achieve the same effect with ASP.NET? Will the whole page need to be reloaded etc?

I haven't tried deploying Rails on production with Postgres yet, but I am just afraid this generated queries would affect the performance.   When using a switch() statement, you add break; in between separate case: declarations. But what about the last one? Normally I just leave it off, but I'm wondering if this has some performance implication I'm not thinking about? I've been wondering about this for a while and don't see it asked elsewhere on Stack-O, but sorry if I missed it. I'm mainly asking this question regarding Javascript, although I'm guessing the answer will apply to all switch() statements.

• Reuse ASP.NET Control Multiple Times on Page

  I feel somewhat foolish asking such a simple question, but I can't seem to find an answer. I'm new to ASP.NET (C#), but I'm learning by building a simple set of web pages that display a report. I have a variable that represents a company name. I need to output this variable in multiple places on the web page. The only way I have found to output a variable this is with: company_name.Text = "Acme Windows"; then <asp:literal id="company_name" runat="server" /> My problem is that I want to use company_name in multiple places on the page. Do I really have to create a separate variable holding the the same value for each time it is placed on the page? If I just copy the above XML code to all the places I want to show the variable it obviously creates a compile error since that ID is already defined. I feel like I'm missing something very obvious.

So I am finding an optimum case for rendering iPhone resolution size background in OpenGL ES. How should I slice the background in this case to obtain the best possible performance? My main concern is speed. Should I go for 256 x 256 or other texture sizes here?

  I am trying to upgrade my iPhone app to use the new facebook graph api. One thing I cannot find is how to find out if the current user connected from my app to facebook is a fan of my facebook page - (i.e. in the new paradigm - whether the user likes my page) In the Rest Api there was a function isFan, but not in the Graph. I can get all items the user likes and search whether one of them is my page, but certainly there must be an easier way instead of going trough thousands of records each time I must check whether he is a fan, right? If someone already figured it out how to do that from their new docs, I'll really appreciate if you share it with me.

• Bottom of page gets cut off in Safari

  I can't figure out why this page: http://wohf.squarespace.com/newsletter/ gets cut off at the bottom in safari, seems to work fine in all other browsers (as far as I found so far)!! I am using some jquery and css for the sidebar and the content to match heights and for the canvas to run top to bottom with the footer always at the very bottom of the page. everything is working (as far as I can tell so far) on the rest of the site, the problem is only on this newsletter page and only in safari. Can anyone see the problem?

So in every page of the site I'm using my own custom class as the page base (which has been set in the web.config file) but I want to inherit from different class for the files in the "admin" folder... Is there any way to inherit different classes for pages in different folders using the web.config or some other equally as global method? (meaning some other way than inheriting on a per page basis.)

• ASP.net Literal or Page altering HTML string, causing formatting issues

  We have a service that generates a report (using word templates and a 3rd party library), and then returns a string in HTML. While this HTML isn't great - its formatted correctly in this string. We want this HTML to show up on a page - format intact. What we currently have done is set an ASP.net Literal's text element to this string. While this works, I have noticed that it has reformatted the HTML string slightly. For the most part, it looks like it generated a bunch of new CSS classes, and a new style element in the HTML. This HTML does not exist in the string thats being returned. I could filter all of this back out, but wonder if there is a better way. I assume that the Page itself is altering something. What is the best way to display this raw HTML back to the user? I can't directly use a Response.Write(string), because this page does have a few other controls on it.

  Hello, I'm having some problems with the module urlrewriter.net for ASP.NET. I have a multilingual site with a URL like this; ~/home.aspx To support languages I use this rewrite rule; <rewrite url="~/de-DE/(.*)" to="~/$1"></rewrite> Then in my code I get the de-DE part and set the right culture for the current thread. All of this works well. After I login on the website I get a message "Hello, user x" to show i'm logged in. When navigating to another page, it doesn't display this message anymore and it seems like the page comes from the cache or something with the old (not logged in) data. Also, when I attach the debugger, nothing is executed for this request. If I visit the page like ~/home.aspx instead of ~/de-DE/home.aspx, does problem does not occur. What could be the problem here?   Hello, I would like to be able to click on an achor element from a page inside a jQuery tab and have that new page load directly inside the original tab. I used sample code from the jQuery tutorial page but to no avail! When I click on the anchor tag, I get redirected to www.google.com but lose my tabs. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? would really appreciate it. • Missing 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time information in Firebug's Net Panel.

  Hello, Firebug is awesome in reporting the relative time when an HTTP request was made with respect to the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' time. However, once the 'load' event occurs (seen by the red line on the timeline), the requests thereafter do not have any information about how later they occurred with respect to the two events. To confuse things, these requests (usually at the bottom of the timeline) appear to have started right at the beginning of the page load. Could somebody shed some light on what should i infer when i see such entries in the timeline which do not have information about the 'DomContentLoaded' and 'load' event times and appear to have occurred after the page load event, still net panel shows that they started at the beginning? • ASP.NET and SQL server with huge data sets

  I am developing a web application in ASP.NET and on one page I am using a ListView with paging. As a test I populated the table it draws from with 6 million rows. The table and a schema-bound view based off it have all the necessary indexes and executing the query in SQL Server Management Studio with SELECT TOP 5 returned in < 1 second as expected. But on the ASP.NET page, with the same query, it seems to be selecting all 6 million rows without any limit. Shouldn't the paging control limit the query to return only N rows rather than the entire data set? How can I use these ASP.NET controls to handle huge data sets with millions of records? Does SELECT [columns] FROM [tablename] quite literally mean that for the ListView, and it doesn't actually inject a TOP <n> and does all the pagination at the application level rather than the database level?

  I am using a user control that I created (just a .cs file not an .ascx file), that does some magic and depending on a value generated by the control, I need it to do something on the parent page that is 'hosting' the control. It needs to call a method under certain circumstances (method is on the parent control). the control is placed on the parent page like so: <customtag:MyControl ID="something" runat="server" /> I'm dynamically creating buttons etc on the control itself but when a button is clicked, let's say for example that there's a text box on the control and if the value of the textbox is "bob" it needs to call a method on the page that's housing the control...how can I accomplish this?
