• Implementing Transparent Persistence

  Transparent persistence allows you to use regular objects instead of a database. The objects are automatically read from and written to disk. Examples of such systems are Gemstone and Rucksack (for common lisp). Simplified version of what they do: if you access foo.bar and bar is not in memory, it gets loaded from disk. If you do foo.bar = baz then the foo object gets updated on disk. Most systems also have some form of transactions, and they may have support for sharing objects across programs and even across a network. My question is what are the different techniques for implementing these kind of systems and what are the trade offs between these implementation approaches?

• Resources for memory management in embedded application

  How should I manage memory in my mission critical embedded application? I found some articles with google, but couldn't pinpoint a really useful practical guide. The DO-178b forbids dynamic memory allocations, but how will you manage the memory than? preallocate everything in advance and send a pointer to each function that needs allocation? Allocate it on the stack? Use a global static allocator (but then it's very similar to dynamic allocation)? Answers can be of the form of regular answer, reference to a resource, or reference to good opensource embedded system for example. clarification: The issue here is not whether or not memory management is availible for the embedded system. But what is a good design for an embedded system, to maximize reliability.

• Solr; What does this mean?

  At the end of the README.txt file which is located in the example directory under solr, I find this line: NOTE: This Solr example server references SolrCell jars outside of the server directory with statements in the solrconfig.xml. If you make a copy of this example server and wish to use the ExtractingRequestHandler (SolrCell), you will need to copy the required jars into solr/lib or update the paths to the jars in your solrconfig.xml What does this mean? Do I have to make some adjustment before uploading solr to my server? Also, if you know, what is Solr-nightly:s difference to regular solr? The tutorial states "solr-nightly.zip" but on their download section I cant find it.

• Getting data from sharepoint into drupal

  The problem: I am about to develop a Drupal site for a company that stores a lot of data in a sharepoint environment (products, recipes etc...). I need to get that information into my Drupal system somehow. Preferably saving it as drupal nodes. That information will also be edited/added in the sharepoint system, so on top of just saving the data to drupal it will also have to check for updates on a regular basis. One idea for a solution is using some sort of web-service to retrieve data, but i have no idea of how that would be done in drupal. So my question(s) is: Has anyone done anything like this, if so how, or does anyone have any suggestions to how one would go about doing this? Any answers would be highly appreciated. /Anders

• Submit jQuery UI dialog on <Enter>

  I have a jQuery UI dialog box with a form. I would like to simulate a click on one of the dialog's buttons so you don't have to use the mouse or tab over to it. In other words, I want it to act like a regular GUI dialog box where simulates hitting the "OK" button. I assume this might be a simple option with the dialog, but I can't find it in the jQuery UI documentation. I could bind each form input with keyup() but didn't know if there was a simpler/cleaner way. Thanks.

• How do I splice into a list outside of a macro in Common Lisp?

  Say I have a function foo: (defun foo (x y &rest args) ...) And I later want to wrap it with a function bar: (defun bar (x &rest args) (foo x 100 args)) Assume bar was then called like this: (bar 50 1 2 3) With this setup, args is a list within the body of bar that holds the trailing parameters, so when I pass it to foo, instead of getting the equivalent of (foo 50 100 1 2 3) I of course get (foo 50 100 '(1 2 3)). If these were macros, I would use `(foo ,x 100 ,@args) within the body of bar to splice args into the function call. ,@ only works inside a backtick-quoted list, however. How can I do this same sort of splicing within a regular function?

• Most efficient way to remove special characters from string

  I want to remove all special characters from a string. Allowed characters are A-Z (uppercase or lowercase), numbers (0-9), underscore (_), or the dot sign (.).   The IIS URL Rewrite Module ships with 3 built-in functions: * ToLower - returns the input string converted to lower case. * UrlEncode - returns the input string converted to URL-encoded format. This function can be used if the substitution URL in rewrite rule contains special characters (for example non-ASCII or URI-unsafe characters). * UrlDecode - decodes the URL-encoded input string. This function can be used to decode a condition input before matching it against a pattern. The functions can be invoked by using the following syntax: {function_name:any_string} The question is: can this list be extended by introducing a Replace function that's available for changing values within a rewrite rule action or condition? Another way to frame the question: is there any way to do a global replace on a URL coming in using this module? It seems that you're limited to using regular expressions and back-references to construct strings, without a search/replace functionality to replace every X with Y in {REQUEST_URI} before issuing a redirect.

• How to deal with the new line character in the Silverlight TextBox

  When using a multi-line TextBox (AcceptsReturn="True") in Silverlight, line feeds are recorded as \r rather than \r\n. This is causing problems when the data is persisted and later exported to another format to be read by a Windows application. I was thinking of using a regular expression to replace any single \r characters with a \r\n, but I suck at regex's and couldn't get it to work. Because there may be a mixture of line endings just blindy replacing all \r with \r\n doesn't cut it. So two questions really... If regex is the way to go what's the correct pattern? Is there a way to get Silverlight to respect it's own Environment.NewLine character in TextBox's and have it insert \r\n rather just a single \r?

• Detect if PCRE was built without the --enable-unicode-properties or --enable-utf8 configuration switches

  I've a PHP library that uses a number of regular expressions featuring the \P expressions for multibyte strings, e.g. ((((?:\P{M}\p{M}*)+?)|(\'[^\']*\')|(\"[^\"]*\"))!)?\$?([a-z]{1,3})\$?(\d+) While this works on most builds, I've had a few reports of the regexp returning an error. Depending on Operating platform, the error messages from PCRE are: Compilation failed: PCRE does not support \L, \l, \N, \P, \p, \U, \u, or \X at offset n or Compilation failed: support for \\P, \\p, and \\X has not been compiled at offset n I know that I can probably test a regexp at the beginning of my code that uses \P, and trap for a returned error, then use that response to set a compatibility flag and provide a degraded (non UTF-8) regexp without the \P within the main body of my code based on that compatibility flag; but I was wondering if there was any simpler way to identify whether PCRE had been built without the --enable-unicode-properties or --enable-utf8 configuration switches. PHP provides access to PCRE_VERSION constant, but that won't help identify whether \P support is enabled or not.

  I have an array created with this code: var widthRange = new Array(); widthRange[46] = { sel:46, min:0, max:52 }; widthRange[66] = { sel:66, min:52, max:70 }; widthRange[90] = { sel:90, min:70, max:94 }; I want to get each of the values 46, 66, 90 in a loop. I tried for (var key in widthRange) but this gives me a whole bunch of extra properties (I assume they are functions on the object). I can't use a regular for loop since the values are not sequential.

  I have a text that contains string of a following structure: text I do not care about, persons name followed by two IDs. I know that: a person's name is always preceded by XYZ code and that is always followed by two, space separated numbers. Name is not always just a last name and first name. It can be multiple last or first names (think Latin american names). So, I am looking to extract string that follows the constant XYZ code and that is always terminated by two separate numbers. You can say that my delimiter is XYZ and two numbers, but numbers need to be part of the extracted value as well. From blah, blah XYZ names, names 122322 344322 blah blah I want to extract: names, names 122322 344322 Would someone please advise on the regular expression for this that would work with Python's re package.

  hopefully the question doesn't sound stupid, but there are lots of examples out there of achieving certain things in javascript/dom using jQuery. Using jQuery is not always an option (or even a want) which can make understanding the examples of javascript solutions written in jQuery hard. Is there an easy way to convert jQuery code to regular javascript?   Assume I have a regular compressed fixed width file that is sorted on one of the fields. Given that I know the length of the records, I can use lseek to implement a binary search to records with fields that match a given value without having to read the entire file. Now the difficulty is that the file is gzipped. Is it possible to do this without completely inflating the file? If not with gzip. is there any compression that supports this kind of behavior?

• Using DataPager Control with AJAX and SEO

  I've just taken my first stab at making a ListView, ObjectDataSource, and DataPager run in an AJAX panel. I had trouble getting it to work until I removed the QueryStringField="page" attribute from the DataPager. This attribute causes the current page to be passed as a query argument in the URL. For obvious reasons, I guess that won't work when posting back using AJAX. Now my question is if this hurts my SEO. When I used QueryStringField, the page links appeared as regular links with various query arguments. But now the links are just javascript. Haven't I hurt a search engine's ability to scan related pages? Or is there another approach to this?

At first I was thinking, it registers it's instances to keep track of them, but regular constructors could do the same thing through the use of private static variables.   Hi, I am having a bit of an issue with the way CI is dealing with /. In a regular form i notice that the following form action didn't work action="mydomain.com/ci-controller/login/" but this one does work action="mydomain.com/ci-controller/login" Strange but he it worked. But now i need this from a iframe, i the iframe i have a login form which sets the parents url to mydomain.com/ci-controller/login, but i get the same error as it was calling mydomain.com/ci-controller/login/ Could my problem be that the call from the iframe adds a trailing / which is not visible?? Any thoughts

  According to Google, I must "Deactivate any calls to Log methods in the source code" before publishing my Android app (section 4 of the publication checklist). My open-source project is large and it is a pain to do it manually every time I release. Additionally, removing a Log line is potentially tricky, for instance: if(condition) Log.d(LOG_TAG, "Something"); data.load(); data.show(); If I comment the Log line, then the condition applies to the next line, and chances are load() is not called. Are such situations rare enough that I can decide it should exist? This is on the official checklist, so I guess many people do this on a regular basis. So, is there a tool that removes all Log lines? Preferably one that is not tricked by code like the above.

  if I've string like "{ partner_name = test_partner}" OR " { partner_name : test_partner } its an example string will be very complex with several special characters included like =, [ , ] , { , } what will be the best way to convert it into a python object - so I can process it I tried with eval but it requires " ' " for string, but how can we add this special character \' before starting and ending of every word, I tried regular express re.findal('\w+') but it fails when my string contains ' _ ' or like characters as it will separate the string by ' _ ' Object of this question is my application needs, user friendly language as input - and I thought Json Dict will be good - but user is lazzy to put " ' " before and after of each string... then I thought for yaml but its also complex, if anybody can suggest better user friendly input which I use as python object - then please help me out.

Something like this: <cfset s = "STARTDATE_2010-05-07 00:05:00.0_ENDDATE" /> <cfset s = reReplace(s, "STARTDATE_([\s-.:0-9]*)_ENDDATE", dateAdd("h", 1, "\1")) /> But that fails because "The value of parameter 3, which is currently \1, must be a class java.util.Date value." • Import small number of records from a very large CSV file in Biztalk 2006

  I have a Biztalk project that imports an incoming CSV file and dumps it to a database table. The import works fine, but I only need to keep about 200-300 records from a file with upwards of a million rows. My orchestration discards these rows, but the problem is that the flat file I'm importing is still 250MB, and when converted to XML using a regular flat file pipeline, it takes hours to process and sometimes causes the server to run out memory. Is there something I can do to have the Custom Pipeline itself discard rows I don't care about? The very first item in each CSV row is one of a few strings, and I only want to keep rows that start with a certain string. Thanks for any help you're able to provide.

  Hi, I am using Rackspace Cloud CDN (Limelight CDN) for my website. The URLs of the CDN are in the format http://cxxxxxx.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/something.jpg My domain is mydomain.com. Can I use IIS URL rewriting to show http://cxxxxxx.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/something.jpg as http://images.mydomain.com/something.jpg? Or is this impossible without the CDN setup accepting my CNAME? If so, can you please help create the URL rewrite rule? (Sorry, don't know how to use regular expressions) Thanks, WT
