• Suggestion for creating custom sound recognition software to toggle audio

  I need to develop a program that toggles a particular audio track on or off when it recognizes a parrot scream or screech. The software would need to recognize a particular range of sounds and allow some variations in the range (as a parrot likely won't replicate its sreeches EXACTLY each time). Example: Bird screeches, no audio. Bird stops screeching for five seconds, audio track praising the bird plays. Regular chattering needs to be ignored completely, as it is not to be discouraged. I've heard of java libraries that have speech recognition with dictionaries built in, but the software would need to be taught the particular sounds that my particular parrot makes - not words or any random bird sound. In addition as I mentioned above, it would need to allow for slight variation in the sound, as the screech will likely never be 100% identical to the recorded version. What would be the best way to go about this/what language should I look into?

  Hi, I'm having problems with regular expressions that I got from regexlib. I am trying to do a preg_replace() on a some text and want to replace/remove email addresses and URLs (http/https/ftp).   Is there a class or set of functions built into the .NET Framework (3.5+) to parse raw emails (MIME documents)? I am not looking for anything fancy or a separate library, it needs to be built-in. I'm going to be using this in some unit tests and need only grab the main headers of interest (To, From, Subject) along with the body (which in this case will always be text and therefore no MIME trees or boundaries). I've written several MIME parsers in the past and if there isn't anything readily available, I'll just put together something from regular expressions.   How should one handle the situation where you may need to filter by a group of users. Here is the scenario. I have an administrator role in my company. I should be able to see all the data belonging to me plus all the other users who I have control over. A plain old user however should only be able to access their own data. If you are writing regular sql statements then you can have a security table with every user and who they have access too but i'm not sure how to handle this situation in the OO and ORM world. Any one dealt with this scenario in a web application using an ORM? Would love to hear your thoughts!

  Hi guys I need to build a functionality that involves searching through emails in an inbox for emails whose subjects match a certain user inputted keyword. SInce I'm using the zend framework I would like a solution that uses the zend framework libraries. Aside this I have noticed that the zend libraries are a bit limited with respect to my requirements for email handling. Parsing emails searching through emails SOrting emails etc - the stuff you would require if you wished to build a web client. EDIT ========= I'm looking for a generic solution here.   Hello All, I have an application built that hits a third party company's web service in order to create an email account after a customer clicks a button. However, sometimes the web service takes longer than 1 minute to respond, which is way to long for my customers to be sitting there waiting for a response. I need to devise a way to set up some sort of queuing service external from the web site. This way I can add the web service action to the queue and advise the customer it may take up to 2 minutes to create the account. I'm curious of the best way to achieve this. My initial thought is to request the actions via a database table which will be checked on a regular basis by a Console app which is run via Windows Scheduled tasks. Any issues with that method? Is there a better method you can think of?

• MVC - Same URL, multiple views

  Hi, Is it considered bad practice to have multiple views for same URL in MVC, based on different user roles? For example: http://www.domain.com/ViewProductID/123 will show a "normal" product page for a regular user and it will show an "enhanced" (product stats, ability to edit title etc..) version to someone logged in as admin. If it's bad practice, why? If it's ok, what's the best way to implement it? 2 separate templates or 1 template scattered with if..else? Thanks!

• TFS: Managing assembly version number?

  Hello, any good approach for managing assembly version numbers in TFS, possibly together with using the same number for the build number? I would be most interested in an approach that: Maintains the first three elements of the version Counts the rest upward for every "official" build (i.e. a build originating from certain templates only - no need to count up for something like a gated checkin, but the following regular integration build SHOULD count up. Labels the builds, so that a manual "release" build can be triggered. Any solution? How are other people handling this? Right now the (new) TFS is happily building with the same assembly version all around ;) Something coding the complete assembly version with date etc. is not acceptable - I want that number to "follow rules", and having the date in there is not one of them ;)

  Let's say I have an array of zeros: a = numpy.zeros(1000) I then introduce some repetitive 'events': a[range(0, 1000, 30)] = 1 Question is, how do I detect the 'signal' there? Because it's far from the ideal signal if I do the 'regular' FFT I don't get a clear indication of where my 'true' signal is: f = abs(numpy.fft.rfft(a)) Is there a method to detect these repetitions with some degree of certainty? Especially if I have few of those mixed in, for example here: a[range(0, 1000, 30)] = 1 a[range(0, 1000, 110)] = 1 a[range(0, 1000, 48)] = 1 I'd like to get three 'spikes' on the resulting data...

  I have created an Asynchronous version of Rails 3 that I would like to integrate with a WebSocket implementation. I am using EventMachine, Ruby 1.9, Fibers and various em-flavoured libraries as documented by the wickedly good Ilya Grigorik. I have been looking at em-websocket as the handler for WebSocket connections but unsure of the best approach for hooking this into a Rails app. Ideally, this would work in a similar fashion to node.js with Express and Socket.io - incoming connections should be detected and dispatched to the WebSocket handler or the regular rails stack as indicated by the HTTP headers & etc. TL;DR WebSocket handler that plugs into an existing Rails application Transparently dispatch incoming WebSocket requests to endpoints in the app

• How can I make my tableview enter editing mode?

  Hi, for some reason I can't get my tableview to enter editing mode. It's a little harder than it might seem because I'm using some open source code to make a calendar (iCal esque) with a tableview under it, and it's not quite as straightforward as just using a regular tableview. Basically, I have two classes. One (let's say Class A) is a UIViewController and the other (Class B) is that viewController's datasource and tableview delegate. In Class B, I've implemented -(void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath; which works fine, but if I put an edit nav bar item in Class A (the view controller), nothing happens. Am I forgetting certain protocols, or certain special methods that I need to write? Thanks for any help, and apologies if I'm missing something, I'm just learning to work with other people's code.

  I was trying to split a string on non-alphanumeric characters or simple put I want to split words. The approach that immediately came to my mind is to use regular expressions. Example: $string = 'php_php-php php'; $splitArr = preg_split('/[^a-z0-9]/i', $string); But there are two problems that I see with this approach. It is not a native php function, and is totally dependent on the PCRE Library running on server. An equally important problem is that what if I have punctuation in a word Example: $string = 'U.S.A-men's-vote'; $splitArr = preg_split('/[^a-z0-9]/i', $string); Now this will spilt the string as [{U}{S}{A}{men}{s}{vote}] But I want it as [{U.S.A}{men's}{vote}] So my question is that: How can we split them according to words? Is there a possibility to do it with php native function or in some other way where we are not dependent? Regards

The way I have envisioned this working is by a naming convention for branches that regular developers cannot check code into. Following the SVN recomended directory structure this translates into something like.   I have this file "file.txt" which I want to split into many smaller ones. Each line of the file has an id field which looks like "id:1" for a line belonging to id 1. For each id in the file, I like to create a file named idid.txt and put all lines that belong to this id in that file. My brute force bash script solution reads as follows. count=1 while [ $count -lt 19945 ] do cat file.txt | grep "id:$count " >> ./sets/id$count.txt count='expr $count + 1' done Now this is very inefficient as I have do read through the file about 20.000 times. Is there a way to do the same operation with only one pass through the file? - What I'm probably asking for is a way to use the value that matches for a regular expression to name the associated output file.

At first I was thinking, it registers it's instances to keep track of them, but regular constructors could do the same thing through the use of private static variables.   Hi. I have a .NET WebService (written in C#), that is supposed to serve people around the world. With each request I get the user's datetime in his own time zone with the format : "yyyy/MM/dd HH:mm ZZZZ". I have to convert the string to something representing the original date and time and specifying the time zone in GMT. I have to make some logical calculations and keep it in the database. The regular DateTime doe's not support this. it does not have a property specifying the time zone. When I try to convert my string into DateTime - it simply converts it to my local time. I do not want to keep my time in UTC, because I have some logic that has to run per user by his own time. Does anyone know a C# class that handles this? Thanks!

• Routing WCF Traffic Based on URI Domain Requested

  Is there a way to route traffic to a target WCF service file based on the URL domain requested? Basically, I have a single WCF RESTful services project with 3 service files offering different endpoints. It's hosted on a single IIS6 site looking for multiple host header values on port 80. I want to route traffic to different services files whether the requester is asking for www.site1.com, www.site2.com, or www.site3.com. Seems like the sort of thing I would use a global.asax or HTTP Handler for, but I am not sure since this is a regular WCF Service Application. Even though I am on IIS6 for this project, I don't mind using a URL re-writer and wildcard mapping, if I have to. I have admin rights on the balanced servers where this will reside, I just want to know if there is a common/best practice before I start hacking my way around this.

  A question related to Regular cast vs. static_cast vs. dynamic_cast: What cast syntax style do you prefer in C++? C-style cast syntax: (int)foo C++-style cast syntax: static_cast<int>(foo) constructor syntax: int(foo) They may not translate to exactly the same instructions (do they?) but their effect should be the same (right?). If you're just casting between the built-in numeric types, I find C++-style cast syntax too verbose. As a former Java coder I tend to use C-style cast syntax instead, but my local C++ guru insists on using constructor syntax. What do you think?
