• why am I stuck on "Initiating update" when deploying to google

  I've have not had any trouble deploying through eclipse until now. I'm guessing it might have to do with all the stuff I've added today a folder of .pdf and .tex files (in war/web-inf directory) a bit of JDO stuff and a servlet that reads the files in the directory and indexes them into the JDO Is there any way to find out what exactly is the problem? • How can one use the "Add view" dialog in Visual Studio efficiently when working with ASP.NET MVC?

  Does anyone else think that the add view dialog in VS is useless or is it just me? Why is there no search/filtering in there? I can not even paste the type name (without namespace) there to speed up the view creation. Plus, there are a lot of irrelevant classes there, including classes from all referenced libraries. Am I missing something or Microsoft never did any usability testing with that?? Is it possible to filter out types/assemblies in the dialog and/or better navigation compared to manually scrolling the combobox with all the types listed? Is it possible to include only types from a particular directory/assembly/namespace? (the ViewModels namespace for example) EDIT: As it seems from the answers that there is no usable workaround for this, I have filed a suggestion at Connect: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=507784 Please vote for the suggestion if you find this is an important issue.

• Sending email from Drupal contact form, but GMail marks it as "Forged"

  Hi, My Drupal site sends email to a GMail account, but the emails sent all go into the Spam folder, and GMail puts up a bar with the message "This message was likely forged and did not originate from your account." Although I can create a filter to prevent them going to Spam, I want to start sending newsletters, and I suspect they'll have the same problem. I suspect the problem is with the way I've set up either PHP or Drupal to send mail. As far as I know it's just using the sendmail function. I've set the from address to "info@..." where ... is the site domain. Any tips on how I can make set up my outgoing mail so it won't be refused by GMail (and presumably other major mail providers)? • Django: problem with merging querysets after annotation

  Hi I have a manager for "Dialog" looking like this: class AnnotationManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return super(AnnotationManager, self).get_query_set().annotate( num_votes=Count('vote', distinct=True), num_comments=Count('comment', distinct=True), num_commentators = Count('comment__user', distinct=True), ) Votes and Comments has a ForeignKey to Dialog. Comments has a ForeignKey to User. When I do this: dialogs_queryset = Dialog.public.filter(organization=organization) dialogs_popularity = dialogs_queryset.exclude(num_comments=0) | dialogs_queryset.exclude(num_votes=0) ...dialogs_popularity will never returned the combination, but only the dialogs with more than 0 comments, or if I change the order of the OR, the dialogs with more than 0 votes! To me, the expected behavior would be to get the dialogs with more than 0 votes AND the dialogs with more than 0 comments. What am I missing? Or is there a bug in the annotation behavior here?

• Spring-Security http-basic auth in addition to other authentication types

  I have a pretty standard existing webapp using spring security that requires a database-backed form login for user-specific paths (such as /user/**), and some completely open and public paths (such as /index.html). However, as this webapp is still under development, I'd like to add a http-basic popup across all paths (/**) to add some privacy. Therefore, I'm trying to add a http-basic popup that asks for a universal user/pass combo (ex admin/foo) that would be required to view any path, but then still keep intact all of the other underlying authentication mechanisms. I can't really do anything with the <http> tag, since that will confuse the "keep out the nosy crawlers" authentication with the "user login" authentication, and I'm not seeing any way to associate different paths with different authentication mechanisms. Is there some way to do this with spring security? Alternatively, is there some kind of a dead simple filter that I can apply independently of spring-security's authentication mechanisms?

• Do you know of a bleeding-edge HTML5 leveraging, legacy-ignoring JavaScript framework?

  What's the best framework (sort of jquery, extjs, etc like) to use if I'd like to intensively use all the freshest technologies of the HTML5 stack provided by modern browsers (Firefox 3.6+ (Minefield especially), Safari 4+, Chrome 4+) and have absolutely no need to support any legacy browsers (incl. no need in IE support at all, no need in Firefox prior to 3.5, etc.)? I'd like to get all the newest available goodness without having (even abstracted by a library layer) a line of code meant just fore legacy compatibility and keeping no legacy-induced things in mind. To soften the filter, taking very humble hope of such an ideally fresh framework to exist, the least (the maximum level of legacy support) I'd like to agree is not supporting IE versions older than IE8, or better just not supporting IE at all.

I'm now trying to accomplish this and is asking for a bit of advise: I'm basically trying to build a filter with 4 input elements, and 1 output. I have 4 select (drop down) elements in my page. As soon as one of them is changed, I need to build a href and get the partial view with the return values. My questionis now if I should try to build the href in the select element or if I can do it once in jquery, and don't have to have duplicated code. How would I accomplish this?

• Recursive function causing a stack overflow

  I am trying to write a simple sieve function to calculate prime numbers in clojure. I've seen this question about writing an efficient sieve function, but I am not to that point yet. Right now I am just trying to write a very simple (and slow) sieve. Here is what I have come up with: (defn sieve [potentials primes] (if-let [p (first potentials)] (recur (filter #(not= (mod % p) 0) potentials) (conj primes p)) primes)) For small ranges it works fine, but causes a stack overflow for large ranges: user=> (sieve (range 2 30) []) [2 3 5 7 11 13 17 19 23 29] user=> (sieve (range 2 15000) []) java.lang.StackOverflowError (NO_SOURCE_FILE:0) I thought that by using recur this would be a non-stack-consuming looping construct? What am I missing?

• How long do you keep session cookies around for?

  Hi, I'm implementing a web app, which uses sessions. I'm using GWT and app engine as my client/server, but I don't think they're doing anything really different than I would do with PHP and apache etc. When a user logs into my web app, I am using HttpSession to start a session for them. I get the session id like this: // From my login servlet: getThreadLocalRequest().getSession(false).getId(); I return the sessionId back to the client, and they store it in a cookie. The tutorial I'm using sets this cookie to 'expire' in two weeks: Cookie.write("sid", theSessionId, 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 14); // two weeks Here's where I'm confused: if the cookie expires in two weeks, then my user will go along using the webapp happily, only to one day browse to my site and be shown a login screen. What are my options? Can I just set no expiration time for this cookie? That way the user would have to explicitly log out, otherwise they could just use the app forever without having to log back in? Or is there a better way to do this? I can't remember sites like Twitter having ever asked me to log back in again. I seem to be permanently logged in. Do they just set no expiration? The webapp isn't protecting any sort of highly sensitive data, so I don't mind leaving a cookie that doesn't expire, but it seems like there must be a better way?   I need a way to collapse duplicate (defined in terms of a string field with an id) results in solr. I know that such a feature is comming in the next version (1.5), but I can't wait for that. What would be the best way to remove duplicates using the current stable version 1.4? Given that finding duplicates in my case is really easy (comparison of a string field), should it be a Filter, should I overwrite the existing SearchComponent or write a new Component, or use some external libraries like carrot2? The overall result count should reflect the shortened result.

  I know this has probably been asked before, but I can't find it with SO's search. Lets say i've TABLE1 and TABLE2, who should I expect the performance of a query such as this: SELECT * FROM TABLE1 WHERE id IN SUBQUERY_ON_TABLE2; as the number of rows in TABLE1 and TABLE2 grow and id is a primary key on TABLE1. Yes, I know using IN is such a n00b mistake, but TABLE2 has a generic relation (django generic relation) to multiple other tables so I can't think of another way to filter the data. At what (aproximate) ammount of rows in TABLE1 and TABLE2 should I expect to notice performance issues because of this? Will performance degrade linearly, exponentially etc. depending on the number of rows?

• Making a simple searchable directory of people and their skills in a day - Which technologies?

  Hi All, I am working with a small theatre company. Currently they have a list of people on paper with notes about their skills next to each one. I want to create a database / directory for them so that they can add, delete, update and search for people. It is a very simple and common scenario I know but the issue here is that I only have a day to build a working solution. The search has to be very simple At first I was thinking LAMP but I'd rather not have to create it all from scratch and host it myself. That lead me to Google Spreadsheet as a database, this has the advantage that they already use google docs for everything and if my front end goes tits up they can still get to the data. Presuming none of you can think of some existing software which does exactly what I want the next step is to make a front end for the database. You can create forms for Google Spreadsheets but they only let you add new entries, I can make a Google Gadget but that will only let me implement the search as the Google Visualisation API provides read only access. It's at this point I'm stuck, should I just create a Java Servlet front end for the Google Spreadsheet and use the Java API to add, search and update? I know this is a broad question but I'm just asking 'What would you do?' to implement this system with a day's development time? Gav

• Accessing HttpRequest from Global.asax via a page

  I'm trying to get a property (ImpersonatePersonId) from a page in global.asax but get a HttpException saying 'Request is not available in this context'. I've been searching for some documentation on where in the pipeline the request is accessible, but as far as I can see all Microsoft can produce of documentation is one-liners like "PostRequestHandlerExecute: Occurs when the ASP.NET event handler finishes execution." which really doesn't give me much... I've tried placing the call in both Pre and PostRequestHandlerExceute but with the same result. I wonder if anyone with experience in this would be so kind as to tell me where the Request object is available. My code from global asax is below. • animate() not working for opacity in IE

  I'm trying to animate a div from 100% opacity to 40% opacity WITHOUT using fadeTo(). I need to use animate(). It works fine in chrome/FF/safari, but in IE, the opacity doesn't animate, it simply changes to that after the animation is done. Happens in IE 7 and 8. I'm doing this: .animate({ width: new_width, top: new_top, left: new_left, padding: new_padding, opacity: 0.4, filter: "alpha(opacity=40)" }, ... it's just not animating the opacity. Any ideas?

• Combining regroup with get_foo_display in Django templates

  I'm using the regroup template tag to group queryset output on a Choices field. In the model: RESOURCE_TYPES = ( ('tut','External tutorial'), ('read','Additional reading'), ('org','Company or organization'), ) restype = models.CharField('Resource type',max_length=6,choices=RESOURCE_TYPES) in the view: resources = Resource.objects.filter(tutorial=tutorial) in the template: {% regroup resources by restype as resource_list %} {% for type in resource_list %} <h3>{{type.grouper}}</h3> So type.grouper renders as 'tut' or 'org' on the page, rather than the long form. Normally you would use the get_foo_display syntax to get at the value of the choice, rather than the key. But the value doesn't seem to be available after going through regroup. There's no way I can find to use get_foo_display on {{type.grouper}}. It makes sense when you think about it, but what's the workaround? Thanks.

  In my app, I have an external monitor that pings the app ever few minutes and measures its uptime / response time Every time the monitor connects, a new server session is created, so when I look at the number of sessions, it's always a minimum of 15, even during times where there are no actual users. I tried to address this with putting the session creation code into a filter, but that doesn't seem to do it - I guess session automatically gets created when the user opens the first page? all() { before = { if (actionName=='signin') { def session = request.session //creates session if not exists } } } I can configure the monitor to pass in a paramter if I need to (i.e. http://servername.com/?nosession, but not sure how to make sure the session isn't created.

This particular page I want to be accessible to only authenticated users, not visible to anonymous users. How can I achieve this? Can I set permissions for individual pages in drupal? Or is it possible to identify that an anonymous user is trying to access the current page through PHP code?

  im trying to create an image filter in OpenGL CE. currently I am trying to create a series of 4x4 matrices and multiply them together. then use glColorMask and glColor4f to adjust the image accordingly. I've been able to integrate hue rotation, saturation, and brightness. but i am having trouble adding contrast. thus far google hasn't been to helpful. I've found a few matrices but they don't seem to work. do you guys have any ideas?

  I can't seem to grasp the Rails routing just yet. I want to be able to link the site to, for example, ...com/store/xbox360/Mass Effect 2 (which is /store(my controller)/:system/:title). I have the database entries that include the :system and :title variables (?). How would I route these to show up and filter these entries? Or is this something I need to set up in the controller?   Say I wanted to customize an OpenFileDialog and change, for example, the way the filter for file extensions work, as in the case of this question. After I pointed out to the author of said question that the OpenFileDialog is not inheritable, I got a comment with the following: Even though the OpenFileDialog is sealed (not inheritable), you may use it as a nested type. For instance, using a property that will get the NativeDialog. Then, you write your method always using the NativeDialog property and you're done. My question is, can someone provide me with an example code on how would I proceed on doing something like that? I'm kind of new to the concept of nested types so I'm having a hard time figuring that out by myself, and I searched around the web and couldn't find anything too concrete about it. Thanks!

What is more flexible and "right" to work with one huge DataTable in Cache with whole data from all users and then loop thought DataTable to find certain user data or to cache each user ie. cacheObj + userID... User can filter his own results by dates and types which is why i need flexible and reliable solution thanks...
