• Nautilus menubar behind top panel ubuntu 11.10

  The nautilus menubar appears behind the top taskbar, I have tried to uninstall appmenu-gtk3 and restart nautilus as suggested but no joy. There is a duplicate but it is closed with no proper solution, disabling nautilus is not a solution! Thanks all Note: Not resolvable, it is a bug, wait for an official fix! A fresh install corrected the problem. The only work around is to disable Nautilus as your desktop manager. I suggest the easiest way is to use gnome-tweak-tool found in the repos. Thanks all

• How to calibrate Toshiba LED screen - the colours are over saturated

  I have purchased a new Toshiba Satellite C850-A812 laptop, with ATI Radeon HD 75xx series. When i first installed Ubuntu 12.04.1, the open source driver worked like a charm with the colors, i mean the colors were so vivid. However after installing the ATI proprietary driver from the repos, the colors went too "whity" and too bright. I even installed the updated driver, and went further to download the latest driver from ATI and install it in vain. I tried to use the ubuntu build in calibration tool, but it keeps on asking me to enter the ICC profile before i proceed to calibrate. I played with the catalyst control center, tried everything possible, but still the colors are still wayyyyyyyyy over exposed. Please advice :)

• How to shrink Windows partition with unmovable files in dual boot installation

  To install Ubuntu alongside Windows 7, I have to shrink Windows 7 partition C:. But due to some unmovable files, I cannot shrink as much as I plan by using Windows own shrinking tool. I guess many of you who have both OSes on the same hard drive must have similar experience. How to solve this problem? Any reference that can help is also appreciated! Thanks and regards! UPDATE: I have identified what unmovable file currently stop further shrinking: \ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\00010015.wid::$DATA If I understand correctly, the file belongs to Windows Search. Can I set up somewhere in Windows system settings to temperately eliminate the file and similar ones (because there are many similar files under the same directory which I guess will also stand in the way of shrinking and unmovable by defrag)?

  For years, I’ve been using the “Remote Desktops” mmc plugin to manage servers in our infrastructure.  I’ve upgraded to Windows 8 and Remote Desktops is nowhere to be found!  I search and searched and came across a forum listing saying “Why don’t you just use Remove Desktop Connection Manager?” I downloaded it and started using it and its WAY better than Remote Desktops!  I’m glad they took it out and I discovered this tool.  I wish I had discovered this two years ago!   I'm just about to start a new business which creates niche affiliate sites. I'm curious about the impacts to me from Google of all the urls being hosted with the same analytic tags, webmaster tool tags and server ip ranges. To benefit the most from google's serps should i have each domain within seperate analytic accounts and webmaster tools or is it ok for me to have all of my domains within one account. My issue is duplicate content and the fact that i am building a publisher network and i'm not sure how much google likes them. I'm notoriously bad at searching and as such havent found what i'm looking for yet. Any help would be very much appreciated.

The following changes have been integrated: Added LOD date of 30 NOV 2014 for ST25xx M2 (NEP LOD – other customers LOD is 31 MAY 2014) Moved 7420 to EOL HW due to met LOD Bug correction : X4-2 and X4-2L weren’t working. Bug correction : ES1-24 RU are now correctly shown (2 ES1-24 only takes 1 RU) The tool calculates all the data necessary (power requirements, BTU, number of rack units, needed power outlets etc.) while inserting the many different kind of HW equipment in aSun Rack II cabinet (version 1000 and 1200). It takes into consideration most of the available servers, storage devices, tapes, and Netra products. There are also a couple of third party products which are taken into account. • Stop myself from over-complicating applications

  Recently I worked on a fairly large project involving C# and MVVM. This application had around 160 projects in the solutions each seprarated into their own layers. As I have been working on this application for almost a year, building it from scratch as part of a team, I am now coming off that project and onto smaller more trivial projects. As I was beginning to develop a small in-house tool I found myself trying to mimic the larger applications structure and layering but in the end I just had a simple application with several DLLs which I know I wouldn't have done if I had not worked on that larger application before. I am just wondering if there are any techniques I can utilise to stop myself from turning a "code-behind" style trivial application into a full blown MVVM application? Or should I continue developing as I am and try to keep the unnecessary fluff out of the project?

• How to detect GLSL warnings?

  After compiling a shader with glCompileShader, I can call glGetShaderiv with GL_COMPILE_STATUS to check if the shader compiled successfully. I can also call glGetShaderInfoLog to get information about possible errors, warnings or other info. The information log returned by this function is unspecified. In a tool where users can write their own shaders, I would like to print all errors and warnings from the compilation, but nothing if no warnings or errors were found. The problem is that the GL_COMPILE_STATUS returns only false if the compilation failed and true otherwise. If no problems were found, some drivers return empty info log from glGetShaderInfoLog, but some drivers can return something else such as "No errors.", which I do not want to print to the user. How is this problem generally solved?

• Writing a dynamic achievement system without hardcoding rules into the application

  I really enjoyed the solution provided here for groundwork on writing an achievement framework. The problem I have is I have game designers that would like to be able to insert achievements into a CMS at runtime. In a way, it sounds insane and complex to do this, but is it really? I think the concept of having to do a hard push of the application for every new achievement is cumbersome. I would love to be able to give our designers the capability to put together new achievements by entering them into a database. It shouldn't matter what tool I'm using, but for those interested, my backend is being written in JRuby (Ruby on top of the JVM). What are some possible ways of going about abstracting the logic in the aforementioned link even further so that rules can be interpreted at runtime?

  Most of programming languages (Server-side languages for web development) needs a learning curve and requires some time to learn. However, I'm sure there is a difference between them. So, for example you can master the 'X' language in less time than the 'Y' language. I'm a beginner in web development, meaning that I just know HTML and CSS and now want to choose the right tool for building dynamic sites. What I'm looking for is a language that is easy to master in less time than other languages. So, is there a language that can suit my needs? If so, please let me know about what should I learn in it? (for example, which frameworks?, libraries?, IDEs?, databases?, etc). In the end, I don't want to regret my choice of the language and want to learn solid basics in it and in programming in general.
