Hi,
I have installed Windows server 2008 on the latest version of Sun Virtual box. I have some web sites hosted in the Windows Server virtual machine. How can I access the websites hosted on the virtual machine from the host machine.
thanks in advance.
I have a Windows 7 machine and XP machine on the same router. If someone is using the XP machine, how can I see what they're doing from my Windows 7 machine?
What is the most common default computer name for Windows (Home, Pro, Vista, and 7)?
(Or a list of the most common.)
I tried Google, and read that Redhat linux defaults to "localhost," and Toshiba laptops (Windows) default to Toshiba, and some Dells default to DELL+some model number.
We bought some new PCs in my company with the new iCore 7 and 8GB memory and the following hard disk: WESTERN DIGITAL WD8000AARS 800GB CAVIAR GREEN SATA2
The problem we have is that after installing windows XP64 SP2 the write speed of the hard disk is extremely low!.
The windows system monitor shows that the Average Disk queue length is always at 100% and a winzip extract of 350mb takes about 8min.
Is there any idea on where to start looking for the cause of that?
Thanks
Any suggestions for a free or cheap app for managing window locations/placement in Windows 7?
I'm constantly remoting in and out of my workstation with a varying number of monitors and would like to setup profiles of windows placement that can be run to readjust my window locations depending on the number of screens I'm using.
We are planning to set up a branch server (windows 2008) which will be linked to the main active directory server (running windows 2003). What bandwidth do I need to keep the domain synchronized?
And is there anything else I need to take care of?
My friend created some .mov files with his mac. Now I'm trying to play them in my Windows 7 machine with Windows Media Player and I only see sound but not image. There must be an encoding issue. But how do I find out what encoder I need?
When I record a movie in Windows Media Center, it records it again every time it shows up in the Guide listings again - days, weeks, or months later. The movies are not listed as a Series (Recorded TV - Schedules - Series). I found many matches for this problem on Google, and no solutions.
Windows XP SP3 w/all current updates; MCE 2005 w/all current updates.
Hi there,
I have running a Windows XP SP3 Machine and I can't login after I have locked my Workstation. I changed my password and installed last Updates from Microsoft last Friday.
When Windows comes up, there is no problem to login. But after I locked it, it tells me that my password is wrong.
I pushed the client again into the domain, but doesn't help.
Thanks,
cyntaxx
I have a domain controller running on Windows 2008 Server R2 and users login to application servers on which Windows 2003 Server SP2 is installed. I have applied a Group Policy to clean temporary internet files on exit i.e to delete all temporary internet files when users close the browser. But the group policy doesn't seem to work as user profile size keeps on increasing and the major space is occupied by temporary internet files therefore increasing the disk usage. How can i enforce automatic deletion of temporary internet files?
I'm currently downloading a 4gb torrent file in a VirtualBox guest running Windows XP. The host is Windows 7. Where do I install Net Balancer for more effectiveness?
I don't keep up with hardware much, so would appreciate any tips on what would be a good touch-enabled laptop that I could use for both development and testing of Windows8 ("Metro"/Store) apps.
Is there even such an animal (a touch-centric laptop)? Or will I need to use a laptop for development (in which case I might be able to upgrade my RC version of Windows8 on my existing laptop to RTM) and purchase a tablet for testing?
I have a Belkin wireless router and all devices including my laptop can connect to the internet. However I can't get my laptop running on Windows XP to connect to my printer through my PC running on Windows Vista. I read all the posts but nothing works. I get an error message on my laptop saying 'The name of my network' doesn't give me permission. How do I change this?
Is it possible to have more than two active VPN connections on Windows XP?
I have a customer with three VPN client connections on Windows XP Professional. I can connect to any two sites at the same time, but the third connection always fails. Is this a limit within the operating system?
Let's say I have Windows installed on drive C, however I install all of my programs on the D drive, and I keep my user profile on the D drive as well (things like My Documents). How can I have Windows use those folders instead of the ones on the C drive?
I have 20 PCs (Windows XP) in remote locations connecting to the same server (Windows Server 2003) using Remote Desktop over a VPN. On just one of the PCs the remote desktop screen flashes (redraws) multiple times after connecting, the others don't. The screen resolution is the same: local is 800x600 32bit; RDP file is set to full screen, 256 color; remote when connected is 800x600 8bit color.
Any suggestions what the problem might be, or what to investigate next?

I'm having too many intermittent problems with my DLINK DIR 400 router:
Wireless connection is lost with no reason.
Perhaps the current router is incompatible with this Scientific Atlanta cable modem DPC 2100R2.
Scientific Atlanta is a Cisco company, but I'm really worried about this combination DLink - Cisco.
Could anyone recommend me a good wireless router for Windows Vista / Windows 7?
Thank you
Why do I get updates (in Windows Update) for Office components that are not installed?
E.g. I have not installed InfoPath or Publisher but Windows Update lists updates for them.
Should I ignore them (will it waste space?) or do I need to install them?
I have two Windows Server 2003 and both have DFS and it does replication between them.
I would like to migrate the primary win2k3 DFS server to win2k8. what is the best way to do that?
I found this article:
Migrate a Domain-based Namespace to Windows Server 2008 Mode
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753875.aspx
But I am interested only on migrating the DFS replication and not the namespace.
Thanks.
On a Windows 7, the working set memory usage plus private memory does not add up to the total used memory in Task Manager and Windows 7 Resource Monitor.
How do you find out where the used memory is coming from?
The cached memory can't be part of it because sometimes the total cache is greater than the total in use. The commit memory plus the working set also doesn't add up to the total in use - but even that shouldn't be significant if it did, since commit is virtual.

I get this error when installing any network adapter on my computer:
The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
I have tried many different adapters and many different drivers. Any ideas?
