  My application works just fine until, in some unidentified conditions, it begins throwing this errors: When these errors start appearing, they appear in all over the application, no matter the code is built using ObjectDataSource or SqlDataSource. However, apparently, if the code uses some "classic", code-behind data-binding, that code does not throw errors (they do not show in the application event log), the page is displayed but it does not contain any data.... Please HELP tracking these very strange errors !!!!!!   I am displaying a list of articles. I sort my articles by the param order, and i want, when displaying the list of article to be able to "move" them up or down. In php i do everything with a for browsing my array of results and inside the for i go to the next index to find where i am in the list, and with wich other article i must swap my order. I can do that in the script displaying the edit page and then in the script executing the update. In rails i have only my form_for in my erb. How can i : Know if my entry is the last one or the first one(display only V for the first, ^ for the last and V^ for the rest) Update my DB entry by switching the order value between the article that i want to lower, raise, and the one he is taking the place.

• Loading a Page into a jQuery Dialog

  I tend to follow a fairly "modular" approach to building applications and I recently started working with jQuery. The application I'm working on is going to be fairly large so I'm trying to break pieces out into separate files/modules when possible. One example of this is a "User Settings" dialog. This dialog has a form, a few tabs, and quite a good number of input fields so I want to develop it in a separate HTML file (PHP actually, but it can be considered HTML for the purposes of this example). It's an entire page in and of itself with all the tags you would expect such as: <html><head></head><body></body></html> So I can now develop, what I want to be, the dialog separate from the base application. This dialog has it's own Javascript (A LOT of Javascript, in fact) in the head as well, with jQuery $(document).ready(){} capturing, etc. Everything works flawlessly in isolation. However, when I attempt to load the jQuery modal dialog with the page (inside of the main application page), as one might expect, trouble ensues. Here's a brief, very simple, example of what it looks like: editUserDialog.load ("editUser.php", {id : $('#userList').val(), popup : "true"}, function () { editUserDialog.dialog ("option", "title" , "Edit User"); editUserDialog.dialog ('open'); }); (I'm passing in a "popup" flag to the page so that the page can determine its context -- i.e. as a page or inside of the jQuery dialog). Question 1: When I moved the code from the "head" into "body" (in the editUser.php page) it actually worked for the most part. It seemed that jQuery was calling the $(document).ready() function in the context of the body of the loaded file and not the head. Is this a bad idea? Question 2: Is my process for building this application just totally flawed to begin with? I've scoured the net to attempt to find a "best practices" sort of document to building reasonably large applications using jQuery/PHP without a lot of success so maybe there's something out there someone else is aware of that I've somehow missed.   I'm making a Custom SQLite Wrapper. This is meant to allow a presistent connection to a database. • Pair programming tools that are not remote

  I am currently in a job where we practice serious pair programming on windows machines. We both have a set of keyboards, mice, and we have two monitors, which works well for switching who's the driver really easy, but there are some points in the session that I would like to start writing tests at the same time that my pair is writing implementation. I am wondering if there is any program that would allow me to have effectively two cursors and keyboard focuses on the same computer. If they don't exist then I am willing to experiment with my own solution, but I would like input as to how to best accomplish this. I am most familiar with .Net 3.5 technologies, but I also know Java and am willing to learn C++ to solve this problem. If I was creating the solution myself I would go down the road of being able to grab the input of one hardware device (i.e. a specific mouse that's installed) and prevent Windows from moving the pointer, and instead move my own programs pointer independently.

• Middleware for MongoDB or CouchDB with jQuery Ajax/JSON frontend

  I've been using the following web development stack for a few years: java/spring/hibernate/mysql/jetty/wicket/jquery For certain requirements, I'm considering switching to a NoSQL datastore with an AJAX frontend. I would probably build the frontend with jQuery and communicate with the web application middleware using JSON. I'm leaning toward MongoDB because of more dynamic query capabilities, but am still considering CouchDB. I'm not sure what to use in the middle. Probably something RESTful? My preference is to stick with Java (or maybe Scala or Groovy) since I'm using tools like Drools for rules and Shiro for security. But then again, I want to pick something that is quick an easy to work with, so I'm open to other solutions. If you are building ajax/json/nosql solutions, I'd like to hear details about what tools you are using and any pros/cons you've found to using them. Thanks!

• Why Does .Hide()ing and .Show()ing Panels in wxPython Result in the Sizer Changing the Layout?

  As referenced in my previous question, I am trying to make something slightly wizard-like in function. I have settled on a single frame with a sizer added to it. I build panels for each of the screens I would like users to see, add them to the frame's sizer, then switch between panels by .Hide()ing one panel, then calling a custom .ShowYourself() on the next panel. Obviously, I would like the buttons to remain in the same place as the user progresses through the process. I have linked together two panels in an infinite loop by their "Back" and "Next" buttons so you can see what is going on. The first panel looks great; tom10's code worked on that level, as it eschewed my initial, over-fancy attempt with borders flying every which way. And then the second panel seems to have shrunk down to the bare minimum. As we return to the first panel, the shrinkage has occurred here as well. Why does it look fine on the first panel, but not after I return there? Why is calling .Fit() necessary if I do not want a 10 pixel by 10 pixel wad of grey? And if it is necessary, why does .Fit() give inconsistent results? This infinite loop seems to characterize my experience with this: I fix the layout on a panel, only to find that switching ruins the layout for other panels. I fix that problem, by using sizer_h.Add(self.panel1, 0) instead of sizer_h.Add(self.panel1, 1, wx.EXPAND), and now my layouts are off again. So far, my "solution" is to add a mastersizer.SetMinSize((475, 592)) to each panel's master sizer (commented out in the code below). This is a cruddy solution because 1) I have had to find the numbers that work by trial and error (-5 pixels for the width, -28 pixels for the height). 2) I don't understand why the underlying issue still happens. What's the correct, non-ugly solution? Instead of adding all of the panels to the frame's sizer at once, should switching panels involve .Detach()ing that panel from the frame's sizer and then .Add()ing the next panel to the frame's sizer? Is there a .JustMakeThisFillThePanel() method hiding somewhere I have missed in both the wxWidgets and the wxPython documents online? I'm obviously missing something in my mental model of layout. • Transition domain to new web host without waiting for DNS propagation

  I was considering switching to Amazon EC2 to host my website to handle more traffic. It seems like I would have to update DNS records to point to the new server but I was wondering if there was a way to avoid having to wait for the new DNS record to propagate. Putting the code on both hosts would not work for me since the app writes to a database pretty frequently. I thought about just using a meta redirect or php redirect on the old host to redirect to the new host ip but was wondering if there's a better more accepted way of doing this.

• Best method for Flex to PHP communication?

  What is the best method for communication between Flex and PHP? In the past, we used AMFPHP with AS2, and it worked great for the most part (advantage of AMFPHP is that it also has a JSON mode that can let you seamlessly use the same remote PHP with either Javascript or Actionscript frontends). However, it seems like AMFPHP isn't realy maintained anymore. So what do people recommend to replace it? So far, what I've found is: Zend_AMF (looks too complex for us, we're not using the Zend framework otherwise) AMFPHP (there were some updated made to support Flex, and it seems fairly stable, but not sure on long-term support) XML (AS3 has nice XML handling routines, but it's more of a pain on the PHP side) WebORB (I have no experience with this) Roll-our-own using JSON or some other data-to-text serialization system (php's serialize(), XML, etc etc) Mostly I'm leaning towards AMFPHP, even because of the downsides, since that's what I'm used to. Any reason I should consider switching to something else?

  I've created a custom binding in WCF for a custom MessageEncoder to allow messages to be written as XML using a wider range of encodings than WCF supports out of the box. The encoder appears to be working and I am able to send and receive messages, but I want to verify that the XML message being written is exactly as required by the service I am trying to consume. I've turned on message logging for WCF using the diagnostic trace listeners to output the messages sent and received over the wire to a log file. Unfortunately, for calls using my encoder, the message is displayed as ... stream ... EDIT: I don't think it's anything to do with my custom encoding. I have experimented with my custom binding a little, switching to using the built-in text encoding and http transport. I still don't get a message body logged in the message trace. Is there anything that needs to be specified within a custom binding to enable message logging?

However, now I need to do the same when the texts entered can be in any language (Russian now, Chinese in the future). How can I clean up the string while preserving "normal texts" in the original language? I though about switching to a blacklist (although I´d rather not...) but at this moment the regex just completely destroys all original input.

My imersonation code works properly if not passing the token back from a WCF service. I'm not sure why this is not working. • VS 2010 very slow

  I have just upgraded to VS 2010, and I have performance problems which I did not have before (in VS 2008). The most annoying thing is that it freezes while I work in the text editor. Sometimes when it freezes I see that it is saving auto recovery information, but not always. Almost anything I do gives an unacceptable long delay, like saving, starting to debug, ending debug session, switching between design and code view, and doing WinForms designing. I have some parts of my home directory on a mapped network drive. I suspect that that might be a part of the problem. Is it possible to configure VS 2010 to use exclusively local disk for its "internal" work perhaps? Any hints would be appreciated! Has anyone else experienced these kinds of problems?

Also, with the new API and an FBML app. How does this exactly work? The documentation is really poor so I am confused when looking at the old wiki, and the new developer site. Apologies for being pretty vague, but I'm just generally confused with the lack of clear direction with the new API and help would be greatly appreciated. I'm simply just trying to create a call that prompts for the new style user permission dialog, and oncomplete calls another JS function.
