  Installing Oracle Event Processing 11g Earlier this month I was involved in organizing the Monument Family History Day.  It was certainly a complex event, with dozens of presenters, guides and 100s of visitors.  So with that experience of a complex event under my belt I decided to refresh my acquaintance with Oracle Event Processing (CEP). CEP has a developer side based on Eclipse and a runtime environment. Developer Install The developer install requires several steps (documentation) Download required software Eclipse  (Linux) – It is recommended to use version 3.6.2 (Helios) Install Eclipse Unzip the download into the desired directory Start Eclipse Add Oracle CEP Repository in Eclipse http://download.oracle.com/technology/software/cep-ide/11/ Install Oracle CEP Tools for Eclipse 3.6 You may need to set the proxy if behind a firewall. Modify eclipse.ini If using Windows edit with wordpad rather than notepad Point to 1.6 JVM Insert following lines before –vmargs -vm \PATH_TO_1.6_JDK\jre\bin\javaw.exe Increase PermGen Memory Insert following line at end of file -XX:MaxPermSize=256M Restart eclipse and verify that everything is installed as expected. Server install The server install is very straightforward (documentation).  It is recommended to use the JRockit JDK with CEP so the steps to set up a working CEP server environment are: Download required software JRockit – I used Oracle “JRockit 6 - R28.2.5” which includes “JRockit Mission Control 4.1” and “JRockit Real Time 4.1”. Oracle Event Processor – I used “Complex Event Processing Release 11gR1 (11.1.1.6.0)” Install JRockit Run the JRockit installer, the download is an executable binary that just needs to be marked as executable. Install CEP Unzip the downloaded file Run the CEP installer,  the unzipped file is an executable binary that may need to be marked as executable. Choose a custom install and add the examples if needed. It is not recommended to add the examples to a production environment but they can be helpful in development. Voila The Deed Is Done With CEP installed you are now ready to start a server, if you didn’t install the demoes then you will need to create a domain before starting the server. Once the server is up and running (using startwlevs.sh) you can verify that the visualizer is available on http://hostname:port/wlevs, the default port for the demo domain is 9002. With the server running you can test the IDE by creating a new “Oracle CEP Application Project” and creating a new target environment pointing at your CEP installation. Much easier than organizing a Family History Day!

  Hello all, I am just starting to learn JNI. I have been following a simple example, and I have created a Java app that calls a Hello World method in a native library. I'd like to target Win32 and Linux x86. My library resides in a DLL, and I can call it just fine using LoadLibrary when the DLL is added to the root of my Eclipse project. However, I can't figure out how to get Eclipse to export a runnable JAR that includes the DLL and the .SO file for Linux. So my question is basically; how would you go about creating a project in Eclipse and include several versions of the same native library? Thank you, Martin

• C# testing framework that works like JUnit in Eclipse?

  Hello all, I come from a Java/Eclipse background and I fear that I am spoiled by how easy it is to get JUnit and JMock running in Eclipse, and have that GUI with the bar and pass/fail information pop up. It just works with no hassle. I see a lot of great options for testing in C# with Visual Studio. NUnit looks really nice because it contains unit and mock testing all in one. The trouble is, I can't figure out how to get the IDE display my results. The NUnit documentation seems to show that it doesn't automatically show results through the VS IDE. I found http://testdriven.net/, which seems to trumpet that is makes VS display these stats and work with multiple frameworks, but it isn't open source. Is there anyway to get unit and mock testing working with the VS IDE like it does in Java with Eclipse?

  Using the trait \Knp\DoctrineBehaviors\Model\Translatable\Translation inside an Entity, I see that the property currentLocale is never setted , so we always obtain the default locale ('en') in all the calls to $this->translate(). If I change this getDefaultLocale, all the translations are made correctly, so I think that is no problem with the fallback. I tried debug the currentLocaleCallable. I see that if I put a "var_dump ($this-container-get('request'));" in the contructor of currentLocaleCallable, the request have a locale to null.   I am using Adobe Flash Builder 4. I've run into this issue with my latest project, but I was able to re-create it with an almost empty project. Here is what I've done. Created a new Flex Project Created a locale/en_US folder within this project. Added a class that extends SparkDownloadProgressBar. All this class does is attempt to create a Label. When I try to debug this application, I get the following error. • Which is the best free ide/plugin for struts2?

  Hello friends, I have just learnt struts 2 and now I have taken up a full fledged project in it. I learnt the basics of struts 2 in Netbeans with it's struts2 plugin. But I am not at all happy with it, as it is very basic and I end up doing most of the work. It is obviously better than plain-vanilla text editor, but still not at all near to what netbeans provides for springs and hibernate. I know because netbeans provides native support for springs and hibernate, it is meant to be better. I don't mind changing my IDE if i get better support for struts2! So my questions are Please list all the free IDEs where native support for struts2 is provided. And if possible please compare them. Please list all the plugins that are available for eclipse for struts2 development. I have heard there are better plugins in eclipse. Also, if there are better plugins in any other IDE (other than netbeans or eclipse of course), please list them giving links. Please give me some tips which I'll need before starting a full blown project in Struts2. I haven't worked on any project on Struts2. • Can I get a reference to an object created in a jQuery plugin?

  Perhaps my brain is fried, but I'm writing a plugin that created an tweaks an element, but also creates an object that i'd like access to. So the plugin looks like this (function ($) { $.fn.myPlugin = function () { return this.each(function () { // do some stuff to the element... this.objectInstance = new usefulObject(); }); }; })(jQuery); function usefulObject(){ // useful object properties and methods.... this.doSomething = function(){ alert("Don't google Google. You'll break the internet."); } } so when I call the plugin, I also want to be able to get access to that usefulObject that I created. I thought something like this might work.... tweakedElement = $("#someDiv").myPlugin(); tweakedElement.objectInstance.doSomething(); ... but that's not working. How can I achieve this? Can I achieve this? Answers on a postcard, or down below, whichever suits you.

  I have successfully set up this plugin before so I am curious as to what I am doing wrong here. I have built the ability for users to add tags to questions. I am not using tagging plugin here but that shouldn't matter for this. With respect to the auto complete, I am trying to have the form located in the /views/questions/show.html.erb file access the Tags table and display entries in the tags.tags_name column. When I begin to type in the field I get the following error message: Processing QuestionsController#show (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-05-31 15:22:20) [GET] Parameters: {"tag"=>{"tag_name"=>"a"}, "id"=>"auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name"} Question Load (0.1ms) SELECT * FROM "questions" WHERE ("questions"."id" = 0) ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound (Couldn't find Question with ID=auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name): app/controllers/application_controller.rb:15:in `init_data' For some reason I am actually passing the field name as the Question.id. The plugin set up is fairly simple as you add the following line to your controller: auto_complete_for :tag, :tag_name and the following line in your routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have added the controller line to both my tags and questions controller and also mapped resources for both tags and questions in my routes.rb file: map.resources :tags, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } map.resources :questions, :collection => {:auto_complete_for_tag_tag_name => :get } I have played around with removing either or of the above but can't seem to fix it.   I am trying to create a "dev" for my users. In that environment they would access to their own account of PHPMyAdmin, SQL, Subversion and FTP which is not a big problem, but I would like to emulate like if each one would be in their own server. I mean so that they could change the PHP configuration (for example) and would be done only in its own environment. Any idea how to do this? Do I have to make something "special" at the installations of my server or something like that?

• Why does Django's dev server use port 8000 by default?

  (My question isn't really about Django. It's about alternative http ports. I just happen to know Django is a relatively famous application that uses 8000 by default, so it's illustrative.) I have a dev server in the wild that we occasionally need to run multiple httpd services on on different ports. When I needed to stand a third service up and we were already using ports 80 and 8080, I discovered our security team has locked port 8000 access from the Internet. I recognize that port 80 is the standard http port, and 8080 is commonly http_alt, but I'd like to make the case to our security team to open 8000 as well. In order to make that case, I hope the answer to this question can provide me with a reasonable argument for using port 8000 over 8080 in some case. Or was it just a random choice with no meaning?

• Is there a Windows 7 equivalent to the *NIX ability to create a hard link to /dev/null?

  I saw another question here that the Windows equivalent to /dev/null is simply NUL. I also know that you can use the mklink command to make sym links (shortcuts) from the command line: MKLINK [[/D] | [/H] | [/J]] Link Target /D Creates a directory symbolic link. Default is a file symbolic link. /H Creates a hard link instead of a symbolic link. /J Creates a Directory Junction. Link specifies the new symbolic link name. Target specifies the path (relative or absolute) that the new link refers to. When I try to use the /j switch to make a hard link ("junction") instead of a simple shortcut to NUL, I get: C:\>mklink /j "C:\Program Files\MyNewHardlinkFolder" NUL Local volumes are required to complete the operation. I can create shortcuts to NUL all day long using the /d switch, but I would much prefer the hard link. Any ideas?

• Cheap machine with Xen to have more than one personal dev servers with RAID option?

  I do not have a lot of money so when I need a personal dev servers I decided I will use Xen on one machine to run various OS's. Although, I really like Dell Zino (http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/desktops/inspiron-zino-hd/pd.aspx?refid=inspiron-zino-hd&cs=19&s=dhs) as a very economical and compact PC which can be scaled to 8GB of RAM, I do not know how to have a RAID setup, for the backup. Is there an economical way to add a RAID setup to Dell Zino or I would have to invest in a proper box for that? • Can't execute java files on command prompts when they work perfectly in Eclipse IDE, what to do?

  I run the following code in Eclipse IDE: public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!" ) ; } } And it renders the expected output. When getting into the command prompt (DOS) already in the directory, I type this javac HelloWorld.java And then this java HelloWorld And the output reads Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: HelloWorld <wrong name:learning/HelloWorld> With a whole lot more errors, learning being the name of my general package. What's wrong? I have installed Eclipse x86 SDK 4.2.0 together bit with the latest JRE and JDK both in 64 bit as well.

I've heard of people taking down Apache in such away that it doesn't allow new connections and once all the existing connections are idle it simply brings down the web server. Then people manually copy the code and then manually update the config files of the PHP application to also point to the PROD instance. That seems terribly dangerous. Does a best practice exists?
