• Can't load any applications

  After installing Eclipse, I wanted to try to enable the global unity menu for Eclipse. Following a guide on the web, I was to make a change to: sudo nano /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so by changing Eclipse to Xclipse. After making that change, and then running sudo ldconfig. and even restarting, I can no longer open any application. I just see the application appear on the screen for a split second and then it disappears. So far I have noticed that I can no longer load Eclipse and Chrome. Anyone know how to fix this? I have tried changing Xclipse back to Eclipse and running the command sudo ldconfig, but it makes no difference.

What I did: 1) Installed VLC player sudo apt-get install vlc. 2) Visit chrome://plugins, disabled VLC Multimedia Plug-in, enabled VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 3.0.1). able to play ogg video but not mp4 video 3) Visit chrome://plugins, disabled VLC Multimedia Plugin (compatible Totem 3.0.1), enabled VLC Multimedia Plugin plugin not found How do I get mp4 playback with VLC player for chrome, Firefox is running fine. Can someone give a clue on what's the different between these 2 plugins and why VLC Multimedia plugin without totem won't work on chrome?

• What variable dictates position of non-focused elements in the roundabout plugin?

  Part of the problem here is that i'm not sure what the best language to use in order to find the solution. I search and searched so please forgive if this is already a thread somewhere. I'm using the roundabout plugin to cycle through 3 divs. Each div is 794px wide, which makes the roundabout-in-focus element 794 and the two not in focus 315.218px wide, positioned so half of each is hidden by the in-focus div. This is all well and good, however the total width of the display needs to stay within 1000px (ideally 980px, but i can fudge if need be.) Basically I want to make the non-focused divs be 3/4 hidden by the in-focus div but for the life of me can't figure out what variables i need to edit in order to do it. Unfortunately it's not one of the many easily-changed options like z-index and minScale. i tried minScale but it's clear this isn't going to work. the plugin outputs this code: <li class="roundabout-moveable-item" style="position: absolute; left: -57px; top: 205px; width: 319.982px; height: 149.513px; opacity: 0.7; z-index: 146; font-size: 5.6px;"> i need to find out what changes the left positioning so it's shifted closer to the center of the stage, like this: <li class="roundabout-moveable-item" style="position: absolute; left: 5px; top: 205px; width: 319.982px; height: 149.513px; opacity: 0.7; z-index: 146; font-size: 5.6px;"> i tried playing with the positioning functions of the plugin but all that did was shift everything in tandem left or right. any help is greatly appreciated. this site is going to be awesome once i figure out all this jquery stuff! here is a link to my .js file: http://avalon.eaw.com/scripts/jquery.roundabout2.js i've got an overflow:hidden on the to help guide the positioning of those no-focused items.

  In the Lazy Load plugin's documentation (A jQuery plugin that loads images only when an event occurs) says: Event can be any jQuery event such as click or mouseover. You can also use your own custom events such as sporty or foobar. Default is to wait until user scrolls down and image appears on the window. To prevent all images to load until their grey placeholder image is clicked you could do: $("img").lazyload({ placeholder : "img/grey.gif", event : "click" }); In this case is clicking the image, but how can I trigger the image load by clicking other element rather than the image itself (say an anchor link/button)?

  Present day usable solution: Note that if you use an ide or an advanced editor, you could make a code template, or record a macro that inserts '->' when you press Ctrl and '.' or something. Netbeans has macros, and I have recorded a macro for this, and I like it a lot :) (just click the red circle toolbar button (start record macro),then type -> into the editor (thats all the macro will do, insert the arrow into the editor), then click the gray square (stop record macro) and assign the 'Ctrl dot' shortcut to it, or whatever shortcut you like) The php plugin: The php plugin, would also have to have a different string concatenation operator than the dot. Maybe a double dot ? Yea... why not. All it has to do is set an activation tag so that it doesnt replace / interpreter '.' as '->' for old scripts and scripts that dont intent do use this. Something like this: <php+ $obj.i = 5 ?> (notice the modified '<?php' tag to '<?php+' ) This way it wouldnt break old code. (and you can just add the '<?php+' code template to your editor and then type 'php tab' (for netbeans) and it would insert '<?php+' ) With the alternative syntax method you could even have old and new syntax cohabitating on the same page like this (I am illustrating this to show the great compatibility of this method, not because you would want to do this): <?php+ $obj.i = 5; ?> <?php $obj->str = 'a' . 'b'; ?> You could change the tag to something more explanatory, in case somebody who doesnt know about the plugin reads the script and thinks its a syntax error <?php-dot.com $obj.i = 5; ?> This is easy because most editors have code templates, so its easy to assign a shortcut to it. And whoever doesnt want the dot replacement, doesnt have to use it. These are NOT ultimate solutions, they are ONLY examples to show that solutions exist, and that arguments against replacing '->' with '.' are only excuses. (Just admit you like the arrow, its ok : ) With this potential method, nobody who doesnt want to use it would have to use it, and it wouldnt break old code. And if other problems (ahem... excuses) arise, they could be fixed too. So who can, and who will do such a thing ?

• How do I determine the cause of Qt's "*** is not a valid Qt plugin" error?

  When I print the value of errorString from my QPluginLoader object, I get this: The file 'C:/pyprojects/test/qsqlpsqld4.dll' is not a valid Qt plugin. I would like to avoid some days worth of doing the time consuming "guess-and-check" methodology that my current internet searches reveal (so far none of them seem relevant anyways). Is there a way for me to get the Qt library itself to tell me why it is refusing to load this plugin? I don't want to guess; I want to know. Context: I am on Windows 7 running Qt 4.8.5 (32-bit, MinGW) and the qsqlpsqld4.dll file is also 32-bit and compiled with MinGW. I am using PySide to interact with Qt.

• Hudson's FindBugs plugin reports line number "-1" for bugs. Ideas?

  Greetings, I have a simple test project set up in Hudson and the project's build process (a batch file) generates a findbugs.xml file. This is processed by Hudson's FindBugs plugin but it shows the line number of the bugs as "-1" instead of their actual line number. A coworker suggested I enable debug info for the compiler. I used the -g "Generate all debugging info" option for javac but nothing seemed to change. My build command is: javac -g -classpath C:\testWebApp1\src -d C:\testWebApp1\build C:\testWebApp1\src\*.java The only other thing in the build.bat file is a call to the FindBug tool (text UI). Here is what the FindBugs Plugin says about the first bug: File: GenerateHellos.java, Line: -1, Type: UUF_UNUSED_FIELD, Priority: Normal, Category: PERFORMANCE Any ideas? Thanks a ton!

I want to enable user to change generated text manually right in the sidebar and: Add code-folding (folding click: \n text: some text to a single line) Add highlighting of registered actions (click, fill and so on) and unregistered actions (syntax errors) How do I do that? Is placing an iframe to the sidebar and trying to do that with html/js the best solution (seen it in a similar one)? • What is the right way to modify a wordpress query in a plugin?

  Basically i am playing with a plugin that allows future-dated posts on archive pages. My question is broader than this specific functionality, but everyone likes some context. I have my head around many of the plugin development concepts, but must be missing something very basic. I can successfully rewrite a query that gives me the results i want like this: function modify_where( $where ) { global $wp_query; // define $year, $cat, etc if( is_archive() ) { $where = " AND YEAR(wp_posts.post_date)='".$year."' • WCF identity when moving from dev to prod. environment

  I have a web service developed with WCF. In the development environment the endpoint has the following identity section under the endpoint configuration. <identity> <dns value="myservice.devdomain.local" /> </identity> myservice.devdomain.local is the dns name used to reach the development version of the service. The binding used is: <basicHttpBinding> <binding name ="myBinding"> <security mode ="TransportCredentialOnly"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows"/> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> I am about to put this into production. The binding will be the same, but the address will be a new production address myservice.proddomain.local. I have planned to change the dns value in the configuration to myservice.proddomain.local in the production environment. However this MSDN article on WCF Identity makes me worried about the impact on the clients when I change the identity. There are two clients - one .NET and one Java using this service. Both of those have been developed against the dev instance of the service. The idea is to just reconfigure the endpoint used by the clients, without reloading the WSDL. But if the identity is somehow part of the WSDL and the identity changes when deploying to prod that might not work. Will the new identity in the prod version cause issues for the clients that were developed using the dev wsdl? Do the Java and the .NET clients handle this differently?

• Configuring zend to use gmail smtp: Windows Apache dev-environment: "Could not open socket" error - repeatedly - going mad

  My dev environment is Win XP SP2 / Apache 2.something PHP 5.something_or_other My prod env is Linux Ubuntu / Apache 2.something_else PHP 5.something_or_other_else The code is all Zend Framework Version: 1.11.1 I can telnet to: smtp.gmail.com 465 from the PC. I have Mercury configured on my PC to use gmail as it's smtp host and it works just fine. (MercuryC SMTP Client). Mercury is set to use port 465 and SSL on smtp.gmail.com -- No problem. Zend mail works just fine on my production environment using the production mail server to send out mail. It's the same basic application.ini but with different values in the mail variables. On my local PC dev setup, my application.ini contains: (same values as I use in Mercury) mail.templatePath = APPLICATION_PATH "/emails" mail.sender.name = "myAccount" mail.sender.email = "[email protected]" mail.host = smtp.gmail.com mail.smtp.auth = "login" mail.smtp.username = "[email protected]" mail.smtp.password = "myPassWord" mail.smtp.ssl = "ssl" mail.smtp.port = 465 I have been doing trial and error for hours trying to get a single email out with no success. In every case, regardless of server or port settings it throws an error and reports: Could not open socket. Both Apache and Mercury Core are exceptions in my Windows Firewall config. Mercury seems to be having no problem. I have searched stackoverflow before posting this and have been googling for hours -- with no success. I am slowly losing my mind I would be very much obliged for any tip as to what might be wrong.   I'm running some research on how people search the web for specific types of information. I'd like to be able to set them up with a laptop and browser and then record a history of what they search for and what sites they visit. A Firefox or Chrome plugin would be ideal, but a standalone program is fine too. It doesn't need to be free, just quick and reliable. It doesn't need to be a general PC monitoring program (though that would be OK too) - it's only Web usage I need to track. I've found a few on the Web but am not sure which ones to trust. Your recommendations would be much appreciated.

• Have an Input/output error when connecting to a server via ssh

  Hello I seem to be having a problem while connecting to a Ubuntu Server while connecting via ssh. When I login, I get this error. Could not chdir to home directory /home/username: Input/output error It seems like my home folder is corrupt or something. I cannot ls in the home folder directory, and in my usename directory, I can't cd into this. As root I cannot ls in the home directory as well or in any directory in Home. I notice as well when I save in vim or quit, it get this error at the bottom of the page E138: Cannot write viminfo file /home/root/.viminfo! Any ideas? • Is there a plugin for default file location in sublime text 2?

  Is there a plugin (or a setting) in Sublime Text 2 to set the default file location for saving files? As of now, when I open Sublime Text 2 for the first time, create a file and try to save it, the file location option defaults to: C:\Windows\System32 I would like to set the default save file location to my Desktop so that everytime I want to save a file, the File windows opens the Desktop view. (the same idea as what can be configured e.g. in MS Word / MS Excel). Thanks for any tips!

• Adobe Plugin in Firefox showing grey screen; something to do with range requests on Apache?

  I have a web page with a link to a PDF file (target="_blank"). If I click the link, the PDF reader just shows a grey screen within the Firefox browser. If I copy that link and manually open it in a new tab, the PDF will display correctly, and subsequent requests made by clicking the original link now work, suggesting that the problem occurs when loading the file into the cache. It appears as though the Adobe PDF reader plugin is making byte-range requests (I see lots of 206 responses) and I suspect that this may be the cause of the issue. I am running an Apache webserver. Has anyone had problems with Apache and Adobe's byte-range requests? Are there any workarounds?

• Successful login with iscsiadm on target still doesn't create block device

  I've set up an experiment to test iscsitarget and initiator, which at some point worked. Later, I turned the setup back on and much to my dismay, the initiator machine stopped making block devices for its successful logins. As far as I know, I haven't changed anything on either machine. I reall don't get this; it used to work. I found people with similar problems (here and here) but no solution. Initiator is Debian Sqeeuze (testing), target is Debian Lenny (stable). iscsitarget is 0.4.16+svn162-3.1+lenny1, open-iscsi (initiator) is 2.0.871.3-2squeeze1.
