• Sending OK Response over HTTP to a webpage request

  Hi, I am using an SMS Gateway to make my application receive SMSs. For this, the SMS Gateway sends a request to one of the pages in my application with the message as a querystring parameter. eg. http://myapplication/SMSReceiver.aspx?Message=PaulaIsHome. Now after my page gets invoked, I need to send an OK response to the SMS Gateway so that it doesn't keep retrying to send the same message to my application again and again. I cannot figure out how to send the OK response. I am using ASP .Net and C#. Thanks

• What's the deal with char.GetNumericValue?

  I was working on Project Euler 40, and was a bit bothered that there was no int.Parse(char). Not a big deal, but I did some asking around and someone suggested char.GetNumericValue. GetNumericValue seems like a very odd method to me: Takes in a char as a parameter and returns...a double? Returns -1.0 if the char is not '0' through '9' So what's the reasoning behind this method, and what purpose does returning a double serve? I even fired up Reflector and looked at InternalGetNumericValue, but it's just like watching Lost: every answer just leads to another question.

• Replacing backslashes in Python strings

  I have some code to encrypt some strings in Python. Encrypted text is used as a parameter in some urls, but after encrypting, there comes backslashes in string and I cannot use single backslash in urllib2.urlopen. I cannot replace single backslash with double. For example: print cipherText '\t3-@\xab7+\xc7\x93H\xdc\xd1\x13G\xe1\xfb' print cipherText.replace('\\','\\\\') '\t3-@\xab7+\xc7\x93H\xdc\xd1\x13G\xe1\xfb' Also putting r in front of \ in replace statement did not worked. All I want to do is calling that kind of url: http://awebsite.me/main?param="\t3-@\xab7+\xc7\x93H\xdc\xd1\x13G\xe1\xfb" And also this url can be successfully called: http://awebsite.me/main?param="\\t3-@\\xab7+\\xc7\\x93H\\xdc\\xd1\\x13G\\xe1\\xfb" Any idea will be appreciated.

• Access to an "upper" instance of a class from another instance of a different class

  Hello everyone! I have a tricky question and probably what I want to do is not even possible but... who knows... Python seems very flexible and powerful... I'd like to know if there's a way to access to the class (or its fields) where an object is instanciated. Let's say I have: def Class1: def __init__(self): self.title = "randomTitle" self.anotherField = float() self.class2Field = Class2() and the class whose type will be the class2Field: def Class2: def __init__(self): self.field1 = "" self.field2 = "" # . . . # I'd like to know if there's a way to access the instance of Class1 from the instance of Class2 that is declared in Class1 (meaning, accessing the fields of Class1 from the variable self.class2Field in that Class1 instance) I know I can always change the init in Class2 to accept a Class1 parameter, but I'd like to know if there's another way of "climbing" through the class hierachy...   I am developing a php/mysql driven facebook game. I am stuck on an element the table design. When a user completes a task I want to trigger any number of events. I was thinking of something like so: tbl_events *event_id - serogate primary ID *task_id - foreign ID of the task just completed *event_type - what type of event e.g is it a facebook stream publish or a message to the user or does it unlock a new element of the game? *event_param - this is where it gets tricky... the event parameter is a problem for two reasons, 1) it will contain different foreign ids... dependent on the event_type and thus it will not be possible to join to x table. Meaning I would have to call two queries. 2) Most events require a single id or text, however some events require multiple parameters - like the facebook stream publish.

  Dear experts, I am trying to assign an function within an function object property without actually invoking then function itself. for instance, I have the following function object class definition function objectOne(name, value, id){ this.name=name; this.value=value; this.id=id; this.methodOne=methodFunction(this); } the last line this.methodOne=methodFunction(this); I want to pass the current object to the function but at the same time i don't want to execute the function right now. But if I do it this way without the bracket this.methodOne=methodFunction then the argument of this object would not be passed as a parameter to the function. Is there a way to work through this. I can copy foo and objs into a new array and pass that array to WriteLine but is there a more elegant way to force objs to behave as params again? Kind of objs.ToParams()?

• How to set -Xbootclasspath for a JRE with a custom launcher?

  I have a Java application which is using a certain Java Runtime Environment. The application uses it's own launcher to startup the java virtual machine. No use of the java.exe, javaw.exe, javaws.exe binaries is being made -- as the application seems to have it's own launcher which is a different executable. This custom launcher is using the rest of the JRE files, such as bin/client/jvm.dll and rt.jar package etc. Now, the problem is that I want to set a boot class path for this custom launcher. The custom launcher does not support the -Xbootclasspath command line parameter, like the default java.exe does. Is there any way for me to set the boot class path now for this java runtime environment? Thanks in advance. • How do I stop setNeedsDisplayInRect / drawRect coalescence?

  When programming my app, I get to the point where I have to update two rectangles on the screen. So I call [self setNeedsDisplayInRect:rect1] and then [self setNeedsDisplayInRect:rect2]. When my drawRect method is called, the rectangle parameter is the smallest rectangle which contains both rect1 and rect2. I can handle this with no problem, but when the two rectangles are far apart, then I am updating a lot of real estate with no gain. In this case, I would just like to repaint my two small rectangles. So my question is how can I prevent the underlying system from coalescing my two calls into one?

• How to reliably specialize template with intptr_t in 32 and 64 bit environments?

  I have a template I want to specialize with two int types, one of them plain old int and another one is intptr_t. On 64 bit platform they have different sizes and I can do that with ease but on 32 bit both types are the same and compiler throws an error about redefinition. What can I do to fix it except for disabling one of definitions off with preprocessor? • What is the best way to expose a callback API - C++

  Hi, I have a C++ library that should expose some system\ resource calls as callbacks from the linked application. For example: the interfacing application (which uses this library) can send socket management callback functions - send, receive, open, close etc., and the library will use this implementation in stead of the library's implementation. (This way enables the application to manage the sockets by itself, can be useful). This library has to expose also more callbacks, like, for example, a password validation, so I wonder if there is a preferred method to expose the callback sending option in one API. Something like: int AddCallbackFunc (int functionCallbackType, <generic function prototype>, <generic way to pass some additional arguments>) Then within my library I will assign the callback to the appropriate function pointer according to the functionCallbackType parameter. Is there any way to implement it in a generic way which will fit ANY function prototype and ANY additional arguments? Your help will be more than appreciated... Thanks!

  Say I have a class where I overloaded the operator == as such: Class A { ... public: bool operator== (const A &rhs) const; ... }; ... bool A::operator== (const A &rhs) const { .. return isEqual; } I already have the operator == return the proper Boolean value. Now I want to extend this to the simple opposite (!=). I would like to call the overloaded == operator and return the opposite, i.e. something of the nature bool A::operator!= (const A &rhs) const { return !( this == A ); } Is this possible? I know this will not work, but it exemplifies what I would like to have. I would like to keep only one parameter for the call: rhs. Any help would be appreciated, because I could not come up with an answer after several search attempts.

• Routing fails when only category is supplied

  My website uses categories and sub-categories. I'd like the follow mapping: /Category/Fruit /Category/Fruit/Apples But if I use the below: routes.MapRoute( "Category", // Route name "Category/{category}/{subcategory}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Entity", action = "Category" } // Parameter defaults ); I get a 404 for /Category/Fruit however /Category/Fruit/Apples works ok. I'd like /Category/Fruit to work as well but I can't add another route with the same name. How do I get around this? Thanks in advance.

• What's the best way to replace the first letter of a string in Java?

  I'm trying to convert the first letter of a string to lowercase. I know there's a capitalize method, but I want to accomplish the opposite. This is the code I used: value.substring(0,1).toLowerCase() + value.substring(1) Effective, but feels a bit manual. Are there any other ways to do it? Any better ways? Any Java string functions that do it for you? I was thinking of using something like a replace function, but Java's replace doesn't accept an index as a parameter. You have to pass the actual character/substring. Another way I can think of doing it is something like: value.replaceFirst(value.charAt(0), value.charAt(0).toLowerCase()) Except that replaceFirst expects 2 strings, so the value.charAt(0)s would probably need to be replaced with value.substring(0,1)s. Is this any better? Does it matter? Is there any standard way to do this?

• Ampersand in JSON/PHP in POST

  I'm having a text field which is send via JSON and jQuery (wrapped with .toJSON function) to my server via AJAX and POST request. On PHP side I'm doing json_decode . Everything works but if I put ampersand (&) inside it splits up the POST parameter so its incomplete on PHP side (at least what var_dump($_POST) is writing out). Shouldn't the toJSON and json_decode do all the job (escaping)? I tried encodeURIComponent, & to &amp;, & to \u0026 and it's not working. What I'm doing wrong? • Controlling access to large files in Apache

  Hi there, I am looking to control access to some large files (we're talking many GB here) by the use of signed URLs. The files are currently restricted by LDAP Basic authentication (mod_auth_ldap), but I need to change this to verify the signature (passed as a query parameter in the URL). Basically, I just need to run a script to verify the signature, and allow the request to proceed as if authentication had succeeded. My initial thought to this was just to use a simple CGI script, but as the files are so large I'm concerned about performance. So, really, this question is (probably) more like "are there any performance implications of streaming large files from a CGI script via Apache?"… and if so, "is there a better way of doing this (short of writing a dedicated authentication module)?" If this makes any sense, help would be much appreciated :) P.S. I wasn't sure exactly what to search for for this (10 minutes of Googling were fruitless), so I may very well be duplicating someone else's post.

  Hi, I have a drop down list inside an update panel that is populated on postback from a sql data source. It has a parameter which is another control. I sometimes need multiple postbacks, but what happens is that each time the update panel refreshes, items are added to the dropdownlist. So the dropdown list ends up having data that is incorrect, or repeated data. I have the AppendDataboundItems property set to true because I need the first item to be blank. How can I overcome this problem? Is there another way to have a blank first item? (This dropdown is in an asp.net2.0 web app, and codebehind is in c#) Thank you.

  Hi, I'm making a custom search box Web Part, similar to the OOTB Web Part from SharePoint (SearchBoxEx class). I'm interested in modifying the search query with additional text before it is submitted, based on a custom checkbox added on the Web Part. Any help on how I can achieve this? UPDATE: I've used the AppendToQuery and AppQueryTerms properties, but this will rewrite the text in the search box as well. I'm interested in passing the values "in the background", maybe as an extra parameter. Point is that the query modification should happen without the user seeing it explicitly.

• Using a trigger to record audit information vs. stored procedure

  Suppose you have the following... An ASP.NET web application that calls a stored procedure to delete a record. The table has a trigger on it that will insert an audit entry each time a record is deleted. I want to be able to record in the audit entry the username of who deleted the record. What would be the best way to go about achieving this? I know I could remove the trigger and have the delete stored procedure insert the audit entry prior to deleting but are there any other recommeded alternative? If a username was passed as a parameter to the delete stored procedure, is there anyway to get this value in the trigger that's excuted when the record is deleted? I'm just throwing this out there...

• How can I output the fitted values?

  Sorry if this is a novice question, but I don't understand it. I am fitting a sigmoid curve to my data with glm(). This works, I can plot the output and I see a nice sigmoid curve. However, how do I get R to return the final values it has fit?
