  • Linux scp command issue

    Hello everyone, I am using scp command to copy file from a MacBook Pro OS X 10.5 to another Linux box (Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5). I am using the following command on Mac, sudo scp ~/.ssh/mykey.rsa [email protected], there is no output from Mac command line. I am not sure whether the scp is success or not. Where is the location the file mykey.rsa on remote computer 10.10.100.101? thanks in advance, George

  • Cable Internet connectivity Problem?

    I just got Internet cable from Time Warner/ EarthLink. For some reason I tried everything that Time Warner and Earthlink techs told me to do but nothing seems to work. I still can't connect to the Internet. For some reason they think it's the IPv4 address since it begins with 169. I did everything the told me to 8 times, but they both give me the run around tell me it's the other's fault. How can I fix this once and for all? I have no router. I use cable to connect to the Internet. Windows Vista Cable broadband.

  • What's the difference between the BitTorrent clients named "BitTorrent" and "µTorrent"?

    A similar question was asked but never really addressed the question, I think in part because of terminology confusion. So to be very clear: what's the difference between the two BitTorrent client, one named "BitTorrent" and the one named "µTorrent"? They look to have identical UIs, right down to the same checkboxes in the prefs dialogs. Why are there two programs with different names that appear to be identical? Is one superior to the other? (Are they different in any way?) Thanks.

  • Where are those crapware desktop icons located?

    My new Acer Aspire One netbook came pre-installed with Windows 7 Starter and lots of other promotional software. Some of them (like Norton and McAfee) I uninstalled immediately. Others (like the Barnes & Notble Desktop Reader and the Times Reader) I would like to keep until I see whether they can be useful). Regardless, I would like to remove their desktop icons (making them accessible through the Start menu only), in such a way that when I add another user account, these desktop icons will not appear on that user's desktop. But when I checked my desktop folder C:\Users\an00b\Desktop I noticed that it's empty! So my desktop's folder is empty, but the icons are still visible on the Desktop. How is this possible? Where are they stored in Windows 7? These applications fill my tiny netbook's desktop and when I wanted to delete

  • Wifi network undetectable on a Lenovo G470

    I have a WPA2 secured network with a visible SSID at home that works perfectly fine with a Dell laptop,a HP netbook and sundry mobile phones. When I try connecting my sister's Lenovo G470, it refuses to detect the wifi network no matter what, but shows up the neighbors' networks. The Lenovo also works correctly at her office. Both laptops run Windows 7. Already tried/checked the following: Manually configure wifi network settings (copied over from the Dell) Ensure there is no MAC address filtering on the router. Ensure router DHCP server is not running out of addresses to assign (I have set it to allocate upto 10). Reboot laptop, router etc. Is this a known problem, and is there anything else one could try? Update - The problematic Lenovo uses Windows 7 Home Basic while the Dell that works uses Home Premium and the HP netbook uses Starter edition - if that makes any difference. Further update - It is able to connect if I reboot into safe mode with networking. However in 'normal' mode it shows up the network sporadically, and then says there was an error connecting to it. All the network parameters, password, encryption, etc etc are EXACTLY the same as they are on the Dell.

    I've been scouring the internet and so far have only been able to find examples of how to grant calendar permissions from one user to another using the Add-MailboxFolderPermission command. This is great and it was okay for when they only had a handful of users. But going forward it's not realistic to have to set individual calendar permissions for all calendars for each new user. Layout of security groups already created. Each group has a few people assigned to it. Techs Managers Admin What I am trying to accomplish is set it up so that anyone that belongs to the Managers group can view the calendars of the Tech group. Admins can view and edit the Tech group.   • Skype keypad tones

    Hi, When I push a number on the Skype keypad (or use the number keys on the keyboard) no tone is emitted. This happens both when dialling a number and if I push a key during a call. This makes it impossible for me to use Skype with automated telephone systems that require you to use the keypad to enter data or choose between various options. I spoke to somebody who works in a call centre about this and they indicated that somebody had mentioned that it's possible to disable (DTMF) tones in Skype. I've looked through all the Skype options and can't find any way to enable/disable DTMF tones. If somebody knows how I can do this, or has another suggestion for fixing the problem, please let me know. I'm using version 4.2.0.152 of Skype. Thanks, Don

  • Issues with partitions WIN 7

    I was trying to make some space to install linux in my HP notebook. The computer had 4 partitions, I made space shrinking one and created a new one (facepalm) using the windows partitioning tool. It show me some warning message saying something about dynamic partitions, I ingored it, and went to the linux live CD. I installed linux in the new partition, after the installation completed it told me that GRUB cannot be installed I dont remember why. So now, it doesnt boot, neither windows nor linux.   • Windows Image Backup - renamed folder now restore cannot find any backups

    A while back I decide to create a couple of Windows Image Backups of my workstation at various points during installation from clean. While doing this I decided to rename the folders containing the VHDs from 'Backup <Date>' to something else of my choosing. I didn't bother testing at the time that the restore still worked. Now I come to use these backups for doing a bare metal restore to a different computer. The problem is restore cannot 'see' any of the backups. So I have deduced that maybe I need to rename them back to the 'Backup <Date>' pattern unfortunately I cannot determine the exact values that would have originally been used here. I have tried by best guest but the images still cannot be found. I have tried doing both a network and a usb hdd restore. No luck on either. P.S. I know I can retrieve files from within the VHDs, the problem is I am trying to save myself time of reinstalling lots of big applications... not trying to recover data.

  • Keyboard automatically disconnects and reconnects

    The problem i am facing is the keyboard (USB) automatically disconnects when there is a fluctuation in the power supply to the speaker. The speaker and the pc both draw power from a apc ups. The fluctuation occurs because the speaker plug is not tightly connected to the ups power outlet. It is okay for normal work, but a accidental jerk causes the fluctuation. However after some amount of time (usually within 5 seconds) the keyboard automatically reconnects and windows plays the sound of hardware connected. This problem will also occur if I manually take out the speaker power cable from the ups power outlet. My question is whether the problem I am facing is due to electrical issues, or due to software problems. PC config: OS : Windows 7 Ultimate UPS : APC 600 VA PSU : Corsair TX 650 Speaker : Realtek

  • Properties!Details (run-time length)

    When you take clips and turn them into computer playable files, whether .TS or .MOV or .MPG, .MP4, .VOB, etc., do you as the producer actually manually write into some field in a "Details" section of your video editor what the video length is, so that it can be read by the eventual user's video player? Or is this activity performed automatically by the video editor? I'm asking because: when a mouse is passed over a file line item in Windows 7 Shell (Windows Explorer) a little box is displayed where the mouse meets the file line item and provides simple name and size properties, one of which (if it's a media file) is run length. How does that figure get there into the file (later to be read be Windows or OS X)? Thanks for any info.

    I have a DVD of footage that I need to convert to FLV. I would rather not convert the whole disk as I only need specific segments. Is there a program that I can input start and end times and to get multiple files of these segments? Can you also advise on the best settings to use for best quality at the smallest file sizes.   • Fast user switching is logging users off instead of switching users

    I have a netbook running Windows 8.1 Pro that will no longer allow more than one user to be logged in at the same time. The steps necessary to reproduce this are as follows: The current user presses WIN to bring up the start screen. The user clicks his name in the corner and a list of other users appears. As soon as one of the other names is clicked, the user is unceremoniously logged off without any prompts. This behavior seems to have started some time after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. Before that point, everything worked fine and more than one user could be logged in at the same time. I've tried searching for others experiencing similar problems but this appears to be unique.     I keep a log of phone calls like the following where the F column is LVM = Left Voice Mail, U = Unsuccessful, S = Successful. A1 1 B1 Smith C1 John D1 11/21/2012 E1 8:00 AM F1 LVM A2 2 B2 Smith C2 John D2 11/22/2012 E1 8:15 AM F2 U A3 3 B3 Harvey C3 Luke D3 11/22/2012 E1 8:30 AM F3 S A4 4 B4 Smith C4 John D4 11/22/2012 E1 9:00 AM F4 S A5 5 B5 Smith C5 John D5 11/23/2012 E5 8:00 AM F5 LVM This is a small sample. I actually have over 700 entries. In my line of work, it is important to know how many unsuccessful (LVM or U) calls I have made since the last Successful one (S). Since values in the F column can repeat, I need to take into consideration both the B and C column. Also, since I can make a successful call with a client and then be trying to contact them again, I need to be able to count from the last successful call. My G column is completely open which is where I would like to put a running total for each client (G5 would = 1 ideally while G4 = 0, G3 = 0, G2 = 2, G1 = 1 but I want these values calculated automatically so that I do not have scroll through 700 names).

    Does anyone know how to remove/uninstall Oracle Developer Suite 10g from Windows XP (SP3) ? It's not appearing in the "Add or Remove Programs" list and it doesn't have a built-in uninstaller. I've googled around for how to do this, and basically, everyone says to run the Oracle Universal Installer shipped with every Oracle product. I've tried to run it from the Oracle Developer Suite 10g installation kit, but it crashes. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Why doesn't update-manager allow me to upgrade distribution?

    I have an Ubuntu 9.04 PC behind a corporate firewall and proxy server. This requires that in order to get update-manager to fetch and apply updates, I must set the proxy and authentication settings in the Synaptic network configuration. Once done, I can check for updates and things work smoothly (except I don't get popup notifications of new updates, must manually check periodically). However, distribution updates just don't show up in update-manager, such as the newly released 9.10 Karmic Koala. I had the same issue in upgrading 8.10 to 9.04 and solved it by downloading and upgrading from the 9.04 ISO. What do I need to do to upgrade to 9.10 using the standard update-manager UI?

When I first was using it 3 years ago, it would let you search a database of thousands of ready-made templates, which I think Microsoft hosted at their own website. Several months ago, these templates were no longer available. I'm looking for some kind of replacement for common computer architecture and digital circuits, as well as user interface mock-ups.   • Disk operations freeze Debian

    Hi, I have just installed Debian testing on my new desktop and I am not very happy with performance - when I perform a disk intensive operation, e.g. upgrade packages in the system, everything seems to freeze, e.g. changing tabs in Iceweasel takes 3 seconds. I run the Debian on my 3 year old Thinkpad X60 ultra-portable, and I don't have these issues. (every single parameter of the laptop is much worse than the desktop). I am using the default packaged kernel and scripts. I run hdparm -t /dev/sda1 And I got around 96GB/s, which is expected. What else can I try to make it work better?
