• Strategy to allow emergency access to colocation crew

  I'm setting up a server at a new colocation center half way around the world. They installed the OS for me and sent me the root password, so there's obviously a great amount of trust in them. However, I'm pretty sure I don't want them to have my root password on a regular basis. And anyway, I intend to only allow key-based login. On some cases, though, it might be useful to let their technical support log in through a physical terminal. For example, if I somehow mess up the firewall settings. Should I even bother worrying about that? Should I set up a sudoer account with a one-time password that will change if I ever use it? Is there a common strategy for handling something like this?

• How can I calculate the position of a DOM element from Google Chrome content scripts.

  Hi, I am writing a chrome extension and from the content script I want to calculate the absolute position of a DOM element. But from within content script, if i try to access offsetHeight, offsetWidth, offsetTop, offsetParent, etc, I get null. I guess content scripts don't have access to those DOM properties. Is there a way/workaround, i can find those properties?

• Disabling file permissions on NFS share

  I am trying to set up a nfs share for use by non-technical users, and really don't want file permissions messing things up. Everyone should be able to read/write anything on this share without even knowing what file permissions are, much less adjusting them. Is there a way I can just make the nfs server write everything as 770 or something? It seems like this should be easy, but the best I can come up with is a cronjob to periodically set them to that, which is far from ideal. The server is a Netgear ReadyNAS. Ideally I would like to stick to doing stuff from within the web interface on it, but I can just root it if needed.

• How to enlarge a .PDF document to better show it in a Kindle 6"?

  I have a kindle 6". The problem is that I often read pdf files that are technical, therefore, it doesn't get converted very well to kindle's native format (for example, code blocks get messed, and things like that). When I view the pdf page, it's very small to read easily, so I have to rotate the screen to a horizontal position in order to see it better, but my page get divided. But some documents would be easy to read in vertical position if I had the chance to enlarge the font size a little bit in a external pdf editor, therefore enabling the reading in the vertical orientation. Has anybody had the same situation? Is there a solution for that?

  I'm writing all sorts of multi lingual text to .txt files using AIR's fileStream.writeUTFBytes() For english characters everything works perfectly. But as soon as there are chinese, arabic or any other non-english characters the sentences are totally messed up. For example: ???????????.... becomes ÂØpÁùħßÂèîÊëÑÂO±Â?àÁöÑÁ°ÆÊ=°Áà±.... How can this be fixed?

  Considering the negative effects of document.write(), why are most tracking/marketing tags written using document.write()? I've thought about it quite a bit, and the only respectable idea I've come up with is that by writing it client side, we're guaranteed the browser won't try to cache the resource. Is that it?   How do you debug lua code embedded in a c++ application? From what I gather, either I need to buy a special IDE and link in their special lua runtime (ugh). Or I need to build a debug console in to the game engine, using the lua debug API calls. I am leaning toward writing my own debug console, but it seems like a lot of work. • Can a .csv file be used as a data source in Visual Studio 2008 (C#)?

  I'm pretty new to C# and Visual Studio. I'm writing a small program that will read a .csv file and then write the records read to a MS SQL database table. I can manually parse the .csv file, but I was wondering if it is possible to somehow "describe" the .csv file to Visual Studio so that I can use it as a data source? I should mention that the first two lines in the .csv file contain header information and the following lines are the actual comma-delimited data.

Just calling the command and "" redirecting it will not capture stderr, so there are two parts to this: calling a DOS command capturing both stderr and stdout to a file during that call I'd then like to open this file in Visual Studio after the command completes. • How do I stop jetty server in clojure?

  I am writing a web application using ring and clojure. I am using the jetty adapter for the development server and emacs/SLIME for IDE. While wrap-reload does help, run-jetty blocks my slime session and I would like to be able to start/stop it at will without having to run it in a separate terminal session. Ideally, I would like to define a server agent and functions start-server and stop-server that would start/stop the server inside the agent. Is this possible?

The program keeps crashing, and I've run it along with the Allocations performance tool and can see that it's eating up memory.   When writing up a codebehind in Visual Studio for ASP.NET web forms applications, I often use the dropdowns at the top of the window to autogenerate page event handlers (e.g. Page_Load, Page_PreRender). I've noticed that sometimes Visual Studio likes to add numbers to these function names like "Page_Load1" or "Page_PreRender2". Programatically speaking, this has no effect on the code. But stylistically, I find it a bit ugly. Is there any way to get rid of this behavior?

  In sharepoint 2007 sites, we can search for people or other contents. Is the search engine able to do fuzzy match so that "Micheal" can be corrected to "Michael"?
