  I want keylogging software on my laptop for lifelogging purposes. But the software I can find is targeted towards stealth activity. Can anyone recommend a keylogging software targeted towards personal backup. Ideal Functionality Runs publicly (like in the task bar). Easy to turn off (via keyboard shortcut is best... at least via button click) Encrypted log Fast Free Cross platform ( windows at least ) The best I have found is pykeylogger which does not attempt to be stealthy, but does not attempt to be visible either. • Windows 2008 IIS 7 PHP Caching / Blank Page Problems?

  I don't even know how to explain this. The only thing I can think is 'why am I working with a windows server?' I am renting a dedicated 1and1 server - I installed PHP myself - with fast CGI and caching (pretty sure I checked OK on something about dynamic caching for PHP when I installed it.) Every few hours of intensive php processing - my pages start locking up - usually just showing blank pages - with no errors whatsoever. Just now, I checked a page - let's call it a.php - and it was showing the results of b.php - I thought I had been hacked! Simply restarting the IIS server however, fixes the problem. Any ideas / help / knowledge on similar problems with windows 2008?

• SharePoint Server Farm, what to do with an old server?

  Hi there, so we've procured a monster of a SQL Cluster and 4 screaming fast machines running the apps/WFE to start up our MOSS 2007 Enterprise Server farm, however I've got one server from the old server farm configuration that was just re-imaged and is still running decently, it's a 32 bit machine where the others are 64 bit machines so it really can't serve the same role as a 64 bit machine. I'd like to see if there's a role for it somewhere in the farm, a few thoughts: --Dedicated Search Query Server --Dedicated Excel Services Has anyone out there been in a similar situation? What did they do?

• Installing Sharepoint 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2

  we are using in our lab a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 which is running as Hyper-V instance. Today we wanted to install a clean installation of Sharepoint 2007 with SP1 on this machine and we explorer an error that we are not able to install it. The setup is comes up with an error which is described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962935 but this is not our szenario. Nobody is going be happy with this solution and I hope we find a fast way how customers can install Sharepoint direclty on 2008 R2. Anyway, thanks in advance for any further information how we should go on with this issue. • how insecure is my short password really?

  Using systems like TrueCrypt, when I have to define a new password I am often informed that using a short password is insecure and "very easy" to break by brute-force. I always use passwords of 8 characters in length, which are not based on dictionary words, which consists of characters from the set A-Z, a-z, 0-9 I.e. I use password like sDvE98f1 How easy is it to crack such a password by brute-force? I.e. how fast. I know it heavily depends on the hardware but maybe someone could give me an estimate how long it would take to do this on a dual core with 2GHZ or whatever to have a frame of reference for the hardware. To briute-force attack such a password one needs not only to cycle through all combinations but also try to de-crypt with each guessed password which also needs some time. Also, is there some software to brute-force hack truecrypt because I want to try to brute-force crack my own passsword to see how long it takes if it is really that "very easy".

• Tiny linux box with 2xGbLAN, WLAN and 10MB/s AES throughput?

  I'd like to find a small linux box with the following specifications: Small (mini-ITX size is OK) Fanless Runs Debian At least two gigabit network interfaces WLAN that supports "host ap" with hostapd + mac80211 in AP mode Can encrypt AES at least 10 megabytes per second Total cost $300 or less Solutions from multiple parts also accepted - I can buy an external network card etc. and build the box myself if the components are available. If you don't know about the "host ap" thing, just suggest your solution, I'll find out if I can get that resolved. If I can't get all that, I can possibly skip the "runs Debian" part, and I can definitely skip the hostapd part if the box can be a wireless access point with multiple ESSIDs out of the box. Something like Asus RT-N16 is close - doesn't run Debian easily, and probably doesn't encrypt AES fast enough. Something like Zotac ZBOX HD-ID11 is also close - no idea which WLAN card it has and it lacks second gigabit interface, but otherwise nice.

• Restore default ownership in CentOS after terrible chown

  Is there any way to restore the default ownership of a CentOS filesystem after an accidental chown -R user:group /* ? Before I go and reinstall, I thought I'd ask and perhaps save some time. I'm in the process of setting up a new dev machine (thankfully not prod) and typed too fast or missed the . key or something. I tried to cancel as soon as I caught it but all my /bin /boot /dev etc had already been changed. Is there hope, or just reinstall and be happy it wasn't a production machine?

Question What software meets the following criteria: Applies encrypted, invisible watermarks to a PDF Open Source Platform independent (Linux, Windows) Fast (marks a 200 page PDF in under 1 second) Batch processing (exclusively command-line driven) Collusion-attack resistant Non-fragile (e.g., PDF - EPS - PDF still contains the watermark) Well documented (shows example usages) Ideas & Resources Some thoughts and findings: Natural language processing (NLP) watermarks. Apply steganography on a randomly selected image. http://openstego.sourceforge.net/cmdline.html The problem with NLP is that grammatical errors can be introduced. The problem with steganography is that the images are sourced from an image cache, and so recreating that cache with watermarked images will impart a delay when generating the PDF (I could just delete one image from the cache, but that's not an elegant solution). • Benchmarks relevant for a Visual Studio .Net development workstation

  I am developing a system with Windows 7-64, Visual Studio and Sharepoint on a virtual workstation on some kind of VMWare server. The system is painfully slow, with VS lagging behind when entering code, Intellisense lagging, opening and saving files takes ages when compared to a normal budget laptop. As far as I can see the virtual machine has OK specs and does not seem to be swapping etc., and the IT dept also says that they can't see anything wrong when they're monitoring the system. As long as the problem is not well-documented, the IT dept and management does not want to throw money (=upgraded laptops) at us, so I need to show some sort of benchmark. It has been many years since I did any system benchmarking, and I don't know the current benchmark software, so my question is which benchmark will be most relevant for Visual Studio performance? Not just for compiling fast, but also to reflect the "responsiveness" of the system. Cheers, user30715

• IBM laptop remove access-connections

  I installed IBM Access Connections on my IBM t61 laptop to manage my wireless connections but it simply will not connect to my network. I want to uninstall it and try the Intel software which is capable to performing the same task. However, when I go into "Control Panel" - "Add/Remove Programs" and try to "Remove" this package, it simply opens up a screen and closes it immediately. This happens too fast for me to see whether its an error. Has anyone encountered this issue ? The event logs do not show any error.

• Limit disk I/O one program creates?

  Hardware: one virtualization server. Dual Nehalem, 24GB RAM, 2 TB mirrored HD. Software: Debian, KVM, virt-manager on the server with several virtual machines that use Linux too. 2 TB Disk is a big LVM, each VM gets a logical volume and makes its own partitions in that. Problem: One of the programs that runs on one of the VMs creates huge disk load. This never was an issue, because the program never ran on such a powerful hardware. Now the CPUs are fast, and lots of I/O is the result. We cant do much against that at the moment, because the tool is a black box. On the other hand, the speedy computation is welcome. The program creates about 5 GB of temp files which get overwritten during the next iteration. Question: How can we limit the disk I/O for the process?

• Perform action based on load avg

  I'm running some web applications on an debian server and have to struggle with ddos attacks sometimes. It's eating up all my resources and I can't ssh anymore into the server. An idea was to drop all connections if the load avg is too high, so there are still resources for me and accept new connections if the load avg is low enough. Since this has to work under heavy load I'm afraid a cronjob wouldn't be fast enough or take too much resources. tl;dr: Is there a way to configure the behavior if the load avg is above a specific threshold?

• Installing win xp media center 2005

  I have a Dell 710 XPS H2C running Vista Business, I wish to clean install Win XP media center 2005. I wiped my hard drive with Wipe Drive Pro and proceeded to install Win XP, the install starts and goes thru the various prompts but when it comes to 'installing windows' I get a blue screen that flashes briefly (to fast to get the error code) and then reboots. This happens with any XP system disk (iv'e tried 4), but it installs Vista, 7 or Linux with no problems. I contacted Dell Support who have yet to give me any solutions to resolve the problem. Is there anyone out there with any ideas please.

• Best Performing Remote Desktop Software for WAN

  I've been tasked with connecting a computer in one of our branches in the midlands to one in south wales. We have been using windows remote desktop but find it too slow. The ADSL on the computer were connecting to is about 6Mb Download and 470Kb Upload so not majorly fast. That connection is also shared with about 10 other internet users. I'm trying to find out if the is any remote desktopn connecting software that performs better than the microsoft remote desktop software. Or, would i be better using a KVM over IP? I've looked into connecting the offices through BT's fiber optic but at £21k a year rental were trying to find a cheaper solution! Any help would be great. Thanks, Dave,

• Automator won't change finder item names of photoshop automation exports

  I made a folder action that monitors a folder and changes the name of anything put in it. Then I automate a photoshop action that exports images to the folder. for some reason I have to move the images out of the folder and then back in for it to change. is there a way to have it change the images as they're saved there? is this a bug or am i doing something wrong? it works fine if i just move the images in and out of the folder. and sometimes it will change just a couple of them, which makes me think it's just because they're coming in so fast that it glitches.

• Clone Windows 7 to bootable USB disk

  I saw some posts here having a similar topic, but I haven't quite found what I am looking for. All I need to do is transfer my Windows 7 (Professional, 64bit) which is installed on an internal disk on my Dell Latitude laptop to an external USB disk in order to have my original system available for booting while installing a new system on the internal disk, which is essential since I need a working project environment for work in case the new system takes some days until fully completed. I already tried a disk clone with Acronis and Clonezilla, but in the 1st case it didn't even booted the clone and in the 2nd case it booted, but stopped with a bluescreen (and rebooted too fast to be able to see any error code). So has someone done successfully what I am trying to do and can help me out here?

• EEE PC 701/4G Surf Internal Drive: Is it really SSD?

  I have an old EEE PC with the 4 Gig internal drive. Everything I've read keeps saying it's an SSD drive; running lshw tells me that it's an ATA disk, Silicon Motion SM. The thing seems to be rather slow, though. I know it has a 900 Mhz Celeron processor and only 512 meg of RAM, but it seems like drive access is slow even for those specs. Does anyone know if it really has an SSD drive? I thought that compared to regular hard disks SSD's were blazing fast, and this feels like and acts like it's pulling from something more akin to an internal USB memory stick.

  Intel® Core™ i7-640M (2.8~3.46GHz, 35W) w/4MB Cache - 2 Cores, 4 Threads - 2.5 GT/s SO i'm buying a new laptop, which i have not done in 6 years. So i am not familiar with any of these cpu specs. It was the highest option for intel for this laptop. So i am assuming it is somewhat fast. But i'd like to learn what these specs mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated. i am not really a computer guy but would love to learn about what I am buying. Thanks!

• Drupal on IIS 7 (PHP FastCGI) produces blank every 1 hr

  Hi, I have Drupal running on IIS 7 with PHP Fast CGI installed. I think this has to do with PHP Process Recycling Behavior or other things that I'm not sure about. Can you show what's the cause of the problem?

• Under what circumstances can/will a 10BASE-T device slow down a 100BASE-T or faster network?

  Suppose I have a 10BASE-T device, but everything else on my network is 100BASE-T or faster. When I attach the 10Mbit device, one of two things could happen: It could be passed through as 10BASE-T, making whatever it's connected to slow down to 10BASE-T, or It could be converted to a higher speed. I'm looking for all the plausible examples where #1 could happen; where attaching this 10Mbit device will slow down other traffic. I sorta think it can't happen - that as soon as it comes into contact with other traffic it has to get retimed to be inserted into the higher rate traffic (so no slowdown aside from the extra bits from the connection), and that when it's not contacting other traffic, who cares if it's only 10Mbit? Basically I'd like a better understanding of any impact of inserting a slow device into a fast ethernet network.

• AutoKey - clipboard.get_selection() function fails on certain strings

  I've simplified my script so you can focus on the essence my problem. In AutoKey (not AutoHotKey), I made a Hot-Key (shift-alt-T) that performs this script on any string I have highlighted (like in gedit for example -- but any other gui editor too). strSelectedText = clipboard.get_selection() keyboard.send_keys(" " + strSelectedText) The script modifies the highlighted text and adds a space to the beginning of the string. It works for most strings I highlight, but not this one: * Copyright © 2008–2012 Lonnie Best. Licensed under the MIT License. It works for this string: * Add a Space 2.0.1 but not on this one: * Add a Space 2.0.1 – At the python command prompt, it has no problem any of those strings, yet the clipboard.get_selection() function seems to get corrupted by them. I'm rather new to python scripting, so I'm not sure if this is an AutoKey bug, or if I'm missing some knowledge I should know about encoding/preparing strings in python. Please help.   We have a Main application named "Trevor" installed in 2008R2 machine named "TEAMER12" which is slow now. One more application named "TVS" also running in and found there were many connections per second occurring to port 5009. netstat tool mentions that some fast connection open/close seen for port 5009 So first it will be listening mode like shown below TCP 0.0.0.0:5009 TEAMER12:0 LISTENING then establishes connection like TCP 127.0.0.1:5009 TEAMER12:49519 ESTABLISHED TCP 127.0.0.1:5009 TEAMER12:60903 ESTABLISHED After that iwill become TIME_WAIT and i could see several entries like shown below TCP 127.0.0.1:49156 TEAMER12:5009 TIME_WAIT after that it will establish connection like TCP 127.0.0.1:60903 TEAMER12:5009 ESTABLISHED TCP 127.0.0.1:64181 TEAMER12:microsoft-ds ESTABLISHED again it will go several entries like TIME_WAIT TCP 127.0.0.1:49156 TEAMER12:5009 TIME_WAIT Finally it will establish like this TCP 172.26.127.40:139 TEAMER12:0 LISTENING TCP 172.26.127.42:139 TEAMER12:0 LISTENING TCP 172.26.127.42:5009 TEAMER12:64445 ESTABLISHED TCP 172.26.127.42:64445 TEAMER12:5009 ESTABLISHED Can any body tell me whats the reason behind why many connections per second occurring to port 5009 and why application slow?

• Diagnosing extremely slow network operations.

  The network: * A windows 7 PC with 2 NICs - one connected to an old style ethernet hub - the other to the internet - with internet sharing enabled * An Apple iMac connected to the hub, successfully utilizing the ICS to access the internet. My problem: Using the Mac, copying from the internet is fast. However, if I connect to a SMB: share on the Windows 7 PC and try and copy anything a few kb the copy operation is appallingly slow with my network card using the Windows 7 control panel showing ~.1% utilization. The NICs are 100Mbs and show a 10x larger throughput (now ~1%) if I download large files over the internet using the Mac. WTF?

• Screen tearing with GeForce 550 Ti

  Recently I switched to the new monitor and graphic card - DELL U2312HM and GeForce GTX 550 Ti. I have problems with screen tearing (like in this picture from Wikipedia). Usually it is somewhere in upper part of the screen. Mainly happens in videos (in flash videos tearing heavier). In games all fine, except in-game videos (sometimes even videos built on game engine), but gameplay itself is clear, even in very fast actions. Connection with DVI. Problems both in Linux (Debian GNU/Linux, openSUSE 12.1, Linux Mint 13) and Windows (Windows XP, Windows 7), with various driver versions. 1920x1080, 60Mhz. How can I resolve this?
