• ec2_bundle_vol fails with error LoadError

  Hi, I am a newbie in amazon ec2 setup. I have now setup a machine to my taste - and I now want to bundle it. I am running the following command from the launched instance - root@domU-21-34-67-26-ED-Z4:~# ec2-bundle-vol -r i386 -d /mnt \ -p ACT-VOL -u 8940-1355-4155 -k /tmp/pk-key.pem \ -c /tmp/cert.pem -s 10240 \ -e /mnt,/root/.ssh,/home/ubuntu/.ssh ruby: No such file or directory -- /home/ubuntu/ec2tools/ec2-api-tools-1.3-46266/lib/ec2/amitools/bundlevol.rb (LoadError) The ruby version is 1.8.7. I searched internet and installed libruby1.8-extras etc too, but to no avail. I also tried running it from site_ruby (/usr/local/lib/site_ruby) - but no use. I tried installing 1.8.6 version of ruby, but was unable to find a way to do so too. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, K

• Best way for programmers to edit XAML

  I was wondering how programmers chose to edit XAML. Most of the programmers I speak to seem to edit the raw XML, but that seems nuts to me since it is such a natural thing for a more visual editor (of course you often have to get down to the raw code ultimately, but isn't there a better way to lay out a grid, or edit a template, or add non c# triggers or manage commands? The one that really set me off was editing a menu -- Visual Studio 1.0 had a better menu editor for C++ than the raw XAML editing experience.) When I edit .aspx files I use a visual editor much of the time, and then for the raw stuff I get into the html code. I am aware of Expression Blend, but that seems far more focused on artistic types and GUI experts rather than programmers. Does anyone have recommendations for a better editor for XAML than VS? Especially so since VS seems to have real nasty problems with XAML editing too, like bugginess and poor performance? Appreciate your helping this XAML newbie.

• Django : proper way to use model, duplicates!

  Hello, I have a question about the proper, best way to manage the model. I am relative newbie to django, so I think I need to read more docs, tutorials,etc (suggestions for this would be cool!). Anyway, this is my question : I have a python web crawler, that is "connected" with django model. Crawling is done once a day, so its really common to find "duplicates". To avoid duplicates I do this : cars = Car.Objects.filter(name=crawledItem['name']) if len(cars) 0: #object already exists, update it car = cars[0] else: car = Car() #some non-relevant code here car.save() I want to know, if this is the proper/correct way to do it or its any "automatic" way to do it. Its possible to put the logic inside the Car() constructor also, should I do that? Thanks a lot!

  Hi, I have edited my form web part to look like this. I am a newbie to moss. As i understand, form web part allows only 1 column to be mapped to my list at a time. I need to configure to it have multiple columns mapped to my list view. Do I need to change any javascript function or use sharepoint designer. I have spent a week trying to accomplish this. • C# Class Design Question

  This is a super newbie question, I've been programming for a while, but am just learning OOP. I have a class that works with user input via the C# console. There are different methods in this class to gather different input sets. I have another class that takes these input sets and puts them in a database. What is the best way to pass the input from my input class to my database insert class? My guess would be: Array1[] = inputClass.GetParameterSet1(); DatabaseInsertClass.InsertIntoDatabase1(Array1[]); Is there anything wrong with this or is there a better way to do this? Should I even have two classes (The database class could also take the user input)?

  I'd like to control iTunes through Objective-C ( I just can't get Python appscript installed correctly on my OS/X 10.6.3 system ... that would have been my first choice ). From what I gather, the IPC on Cocoa is based on Apple Events : is there either: Online documentation on iTunes / Apple Events API ? Instrospection mechanism to get to iTunes API? I know about Applescript Editor / Open Dictionary functionality but I can't figure out how to translate the information I see into IPC calls. Note: I have already tried working out a solution through PyObjC but the main function I am after is track searching which I can't figure out. Disclaimer: OS/X super-newbie here.

• Windows 2008 File Share

  Hi, I have 3 Windows 2008 Standard servers in my system with no domain controller. Two of the servers are running a NLB cluster and the third server is a file server that the web servers connect to. I want to store my source code on the file server and point the IIS config to the network file share. The web sites also need access to a file share on the file server. I was able to share the network drive and access while logged into either of the web servers but my web apps are unable to access the file share - I assume due to permissions. Does anybody know the correct way to do this? Thanks, Chris

• Testing Django web app with Hudson and Selenium

  This might be a newbie question for Hudson. I am trying to setup Selenium testing for my Django website in my Hudson CI server. The question is, the Hudson will use subversion to checkout my Django code into its own path, how do I "deploy" the code into the same server for testing? This is not a question about deploying django, but instead how to access the source file in hudson workspace. Most tutorials/blogs is about building and running tests, but I couldn't find useful information about how to setup the web application on the server to run the test against. 1) Should I write some shell script to copy the source files from the hudson workspace? Is there an environment variable to use to access the workspace? 2) Is there a tutorial on how to grab web app files in hudson workspace and deploy them? I am sure this apply for other technologies like PHP as well. Thanks!

• Sharing a printer over the net from Windows 7 to Windows Server 2003

  Hi, I need to share a printer that is connected to a Windows 7 computer. The windows 7 computer is in another building about an hours drive away. The computer that needs to access the printer is running Windows Server 2008. Ive tried setting the printer as 'shared' for 'everyone' on the Windows 7 PC and accessing it from the server by adding a TCP/IP port to the IP address but the printer just wont add. From googling aparently it may need setting up as a printer server through IIS, but i'm just not sure on the best practice. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Grant Unwin

  Hello im a newbie at using Drupal, and have come across a block in my progress. I have been using CCK to add new content types to my forms. I was wondering if there was any way to add to the form that is generated so that i may contain the elements and also insert visual html code like head rules etc. I have dabbled with the hook_form_alter() and it does not seem to help me in my efforts. Ive been through adjusting tpl.php files and such and have made no progress. Please if there is any one there in the inter-webs who is knowledgeable on this matter your advice would be greatly appreciated. Here is just an example of what I would want to do within the form: 1. • How to set up an SSL Cert with Subject Alternative Name

  To test a specific embedded client, I need to set up a web server serving a couple of SSL (HTTPS) sites, say "main.mysite.com" and "alternate.mysite.com". These should be handled by the same certificate, with a Subject Name of "main.mysite.com" and a Subject Alternative Name of "alternate.mysite.com". This certificate needs to be in an authority chain back to a 'proper' CA (such as GoDaddy, to keep the cost down). My question is, are there any good tutorials on how to do this, or can someone explain the process? What sort of parent certificate do I need to purchase from the CA provider? My understanding of SSL certificates is limited, but as Manuel said in Fawlty Towers, "I learn...". I'm happy to work in Windows (IIS) or Linux (Apache) (or even OSX, for that matter).   .NET newbie alert Using Visual C# 2008 Express Edition I have accidentally created a click event for a button. I then deleted the automatically-created method code, which resulted in an error saying that the function, which had now been referenced in the form loading code, could no longer be found. Deleting the following line from the Form1.Designer.cs file's InitializeComponent() function... this.btnCopy.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.btnCopy_Click); ... seems to do the trick, however, it makes me feel very dirty because of the following warning at the beginning of the #region: /// Required method for Designer support - do not modify /// the contents of this method with the code editor. I haven't been able to find a way to do this using the form designer, which I assume is the means implied by this warning. What is the correct way to do this?

  My company is hosting a website in a server with IIS, SQL Server and a 3rd party windows service (written in C#, source code available for amendments). We bought a new identical server, composed by: 1x Quad Core, 12GB RAM, 4x160GB SATA Raid 5, Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, Public IP. We aim to put all webpages and the 3rd party windows service in an high-availability state. After some lab-testing on how to configure Failover Clustering and Hyper-V, we have deep doubts on what the "best" solution would be, by "best" meaning maintainable and able to correctly handle a physical server failure. Any suggestion on how we should configure the two servers? We don't need all the configuration's step, just an hint on the right direction to follow.

• How can I find a computer on my network that is doing mass mailings?

  I was notified by my isp that one of my machines is sending out spam. This happened about 3 months ago on windows machine running cygwin that was hacked due to an SSH vuln. The hackers setup IIS and SMTP. I cleared out the machine and all the services are disabled so I think that machine is okay I am wondering if there is any other way to identify which machine it could be coming from? The ISP has NO useful information such as source port, destination port, destination IP... nothing. I am running DD-WRT on my router, Windows 7 PC and a Windows XP PC.

  I am newbie to Android DBUS, recently I was informed that I need to use DBUS to implement Bluetooth in Android, from DBUS documentation I see DBUS is used for communication medium between two applications. In Android apps -apps communication is through intents, if so why do we need DBUS for Bluetooth ? Is that DBUS serves as communication medium for networking (IP) between two apps since it is built over sockets? Apparently found that while adding user using Admin login allows registration form to have fields like email address, username, password,confirm password, etc with validations. But when anonymous use wants to register, then only fields like email address and username are displayed. I tried with Profile module available. But now how could I add some fields (password, confirm password, terms & condition check and receive news letter check box)and behavior (password, confirm password validation etc.)? If I am adding such fields they are also get visible in AdminAdd user form resulting duplicate fields like Password,Confirm password. Could you please suggest me how can I do this? I tried googling but confused me a lot as I am beginner to Drupal.

• MacBook Pro - 72k vs 54k rpm drives - Heat and Noise

  I am looking at a new 15" MacBook Pro for development purposes. I am planning to run a Virtual Machine for about 50% of my work (Windows 7 x64, IIS, SQL Server, and VS 2010). The upgrade from a 54000 rpm drive to a 72000 rpm is only $45. From what I understand the faster rotational speed of the 72000 rpm drive will help virtual machine performance. However, I am concerned that additional heat and fan noise might be an issue. I will be running mostly on A/C power so decreased battery life is not a major concern for me. Since I would be running with a Core i7 processor which gives off a fair amount of heat already I was wondering if it might be best to stay at 54000 rpm for the hard drive. What do you all think? A lot business logic segmented over several dlls. What is an appropriate way for an MVC web application to sit on top of this (in terms of code and project structure)? In the example below, which of the objects I create do I need to delete? What happens to the instance variable myOtherClass when myClass is destroyed? • How to request device token on iphone

  Hello, I am able to use the didRegisterForRemoteNotificationWithDeviceToken callback method to get the device token of my iphone when subscribing to push notifications. My question is how can I get this token again a later time? When a user subscribes to something in my application, I want to send the device token and the id of the item they are subscribing to...but I can't figure out where to get the device token from. I tried using the uniqueIdentifer from the UIDevice class but this value is different than what the original token was. I supposed I could call registerForRemoteNotificationTypes each time my app starts to produce the token. But if I do that, I'm not sure how I can access this value from a different class (my didRegisterForRemoteNotificationWithDeviceToken callback is located in the main application delegate). Thanks for any help for an objective C newbie!
