  • Skip "Sign in to your Microsoft account" (Windows 8.1 Setup)

    I have an RT tablet and updated it to Windows 8.1. The update basically performs the new PC setup. I can't get past the "Sign into your Microsoft Account". Clicking "Next" does not allow me to proceed (and prompts me for an email address). Clicking "Don't have an account" does nothing because its not linked. The other two options are "Create an account" a "Privacy statement". I don't want to create an account, and I'm not interested in their perverted terms of service for an account. In Windows 8.0, we were given the option to use local authentication. How do I bypass this feature?

  • Is there anyway to configure Google account for Windows 8 Sync?

    Recently upgraded to Windows 8. The problem is a lot of Sync features requires Microsoft account to linked. Even though I have one, I don't want to spare one for Sync purpose. Additionally, Google-Chrome's sync feature is absolutely charming. So I prefer Google for storing my data. So, 1) Is there anyway to replace Microsoft Sync with other accounts by patching or modifying any byte? 2) I want to replace Maps, Weather, and all possible apps with Google. I've see Mail can be done. What are the all other possible Metro apps?

  • HP UX can not boot from Ignite Tape

    We have hp rp2470 server running hp-ux 11.00, with LVM mirroring. As for redundancy we have second rp2470 same hw (same two processors, same ram, same two hdd’s, same number of lan cards). I want to clone first one to the second. For that purpose I am making ignite tape with the following command: make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 Ignite tape finishes without problems. When I boot second server from this ignate tape, server is starting to boot, and ignite restore finishes without any errors, only few notes, which are normal. However vmunix is not booting and when restore finishes, it boot to ISL prompt. From this I cannot boot /stand/vmunix. I tried to run recovery shell but no success. When recovery shell ask to do frecover to restore critical files, then I receive error: frecover(5405): unable to open /dev/rmt/0m At first I thought that the problem might be in the difference of the firmware version of the servers: fw version of production server is: Firmware Version 43.50 and fw version of backup server is: Firmware Version 42.19 So i did a fw upgrade of my backup server so that both servers are v43.50, and tried a recovery but again cant boot the system. Next I did another archive tape with -I (Interactive) flag: make_tape_recovery -I -x inc_entire=vg00 and tried recovery with it, again no good. I cannot find any error or warnings on ignite log, and I cannot boot hpux. I am only on ISL prompt.     I'm looking for a tool to monitor custom PHP Error logs/Apache and possibly Java logs on remote development servers. I'm not looking for a full production log system like Splunk, but something that's a little more flexible than an ssh terminal doing a "tail -f". Perhaps something that will: * Monitor multiple log files to my local machine for searching/analysis later * Allow "alerts" when certain strings appear in the log * Provide some kind of tabbed/dashboard view of the multiple logs being monitored (in total less than 10 logs).

  • TTL for PTR records on Windows 2003 Server DNS

    When I look at the TTL (Time to Live) for PTR records (Reverse Lookup Zone) on one of our Windows 2003 DNS servers I see some are at 15 minutes, others are at 20. They have "Delete this record when it becomes stale" checked. These PTR records are for workstations that get IPs from Windows DHCP, so I think that creates the PTR records dynamically? How is TTL for these records set?

  • Remove Excel data link in Visio Drawing

    I am creating a server topology for one of our SharePoint farms and thought it would be easy to just link the Excel spreadsheet with our server information to the Visio drawing to auto-populate some things. It didn't work out that well, but the drawing is finished without it now. I cannot remove the link between the Excel spreadsheet and the Visio diagram. Whenever the drawing is opened the linked excel server list opens in a pane at the very bottom of the window. How would I eliminate the data link? Or just the spreadsheet from view when being opened?

  • NFS robustness or weaknesses

    I have 2 web servers with a load balancer in front of them. They both have mounted a nfs share, so that they can share some common files, like images uploaded from the cms and some run time generated files. Is nfs robust? Are there any specific weaknesses I should now about? I know it does not support file locking but that does not matter to me. I use memcache to emulate file locking for the runtime generated files.   • Shares on Hyper-V Host or Guest?

    I'm about to deploy a Hyper-V Server, that will have 2 local drives: 250GB for VMs, 2TB for Shares. Does Hyper-V Server (standalone, not as a role) allow you to setup Network Shares? Or will I have to setup a VM with the 2TB drive allocated to it, for setting up the Shares? If Hyper-V supports Shares, would there be a performance benefit? The Shares will be used by both the VMs on the Hyper-V Server and other Servers within the Network.

  • ISC DHCP - Force clients to get a new IP address, instead of the being re-issued their previous lease's IP

    We are in the middle of a migration of our DHCP and DNS services from a Debian-based server to a Windows Server 2008 R2 implementation. The Debian server is running isc-dhcpd-V3.1.1. All of workstations are configured to have fixed-addresses between .3 and .40 (the motivation behind that choice is mostly management/political much like here). DHCP leases are given out in the range of .100 to .175. Statically configured servers live in the .200 block and above (which is mostly empty). When we move to the Windows platform, management/political considerations require me to move the IP ranges around again. We would like to keep .1 - .10 reserved for network appliances, switches, and other infrastructure. .200 will remain designated for servers. The addressing space in between should be available to clients and IPs should be dynamically allocated (Edit: instead of automatic as originally mentioned) by the server. My Address Pool on the Windows Server looks like this: 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.254 (Address range for distribution) 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.10 (IP addresses excluded from distribution) 192.168.0.200 192.168.0.254 (IP addresses excluded from distribution) Currently, we have all of our clients still on the .3 - .40 range, and a few machines still active in the .100 - .175 (although there are lots devices that are powered off that still have expired leases with IPs from that range). Since the lease "database" isn't shared between the old and new DHCP server how can I prevent clients from receiving a lease with an IP address that is currently being held by client with a non-expired lease from the old DHCP server? If I just expand the range on the Debian DHCP server to be 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.199 is there a way to force clients to not re-use their old IP address when they send their DHCPDISCOVER? Can I make the Windows DHCP server be authoritiative like the ISC implementation? The dhcpd.conf from the Debian server: ddns-update-style none; authoritative; default-lease-time 43200; #12 hours max-lease-time 86400; #24 hours subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { option routers 192.168.0.1; option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255; range 192.168.0.100 192.168.0.175; } host workstation-1 { hardware ethernet 00:11:22:33:44:55; fixed-address 192.168.0.3; } ... and so on until 192.168.0.40

  • Mail.app Bug -- Keeps Showing Messages

    Hi, I'm running Mail.app on my Mac (Snow Leopard). Two GMail accounts are linked to it using POP. There is an annoying bug which causes certain messages from one of the account to show up in my Inbox. They are always messages I sent to a certain account, and are 6-7 messages from one thread. If I delete them, they just show up again if I restart Mail.app or switch to a different mailbox and back, although the number of messages goes down, until it reaches one, and goes back to six-seven. The only solution I have found is to delete the offending thread from within GMail, except that then another thread takes its place and starts annoying me. Any solution?

  • Adding a jar file to CLASSPATH is still not executable

    Perhaps I just don't understand how the whole CLASSPATH environment variable works when trying to find .jar files on your system. I thought if you specified it, you could launch .jar files with java in much the same way that you can launch executables that are on your path. I have an executable java archive (.jar file) on my system, that I stuck in /usr/local/bin/gatk/. I added this to my CLASSPATH via: export CLASSPATH=/usr/local/bin/gatk/GenomeAnalysisTK.jar I thought this would make the .jar file visible to my JVM. When I try to invoke it with java -jar GenomeAnalysisTK.jar #Error: Unable to access jarfile .gatk/GenomeAnalysisTK.jar I can invoke it setting the absolute path, e.g. java -jar /usr/local/bin/gatk/GenomeAnalysisTK.jar, however I'd rather not type the full path each time. I have read many of the linked tutorials but somehow I don't seem to be getting this right and I can't understand what I am doing wrong.

  • Unable to start sql service when TCP/IP is enabled under SSCM - SS Network Configuration

    I get error 10048. and this in event history: The SQL server service terminated with server-specific error. Only one usage of each socket (protcol/network address/port) is normall permitted. Any idea howto fix this ? Port set is the default 1433... If this is turned off, which is default of course, SQL service starts like a champ. I have done this config many times on other servers with no problem.

    WSS 3.0:Windows2003 I have a content database that keeps growing for the name of simply, "WSS_Content" This database is aside from all the other content databases that are linked to an web application, but located in the same directory. I count 5 CONTENT databases on this directory, but only 4 web applications (excluding the centraladmin). Trouble is it keeps growing in size and I need to know what it is and why its growing. Is this a default database of some kind? Where and why would it grow? I recently found, through Central Administration, that one of my sites has a content database name of "WSS_Content_(random numbers and letters)" whereas, the other content databases would have a name like "WSS_Content_(WebApplicationName)" What gives?

  • Recommendations on managing dot files for users using Puppet

    Goal is to have a collection of dot files (.bashrc, .vimrc, etc.) in a central location. Once it's there, Puppet should push out the files to all managed servers. I initially was thinking of giving users FTP access where they could upload their dot files and then having an rsync cron job. However, it might not be the most elegant or robust solution. Wanted to see if anyone else had some recommendations.

  • E-mail sent with postfix are marked as spam.

    I am using gmail as my email provider, and I only have gmail servers for my mx records. I don't like the 500 message per day cap. To address this issue I would like to run postfix on my Linux machine to only send email, incoming port 25 blocked by my firewall. I can send email, however google marks all messages sent with postfix as SPAM. How do I make sure that people know email sent with postfix is valid?

  • SSH access from outside to a pc inside network

    I have a static IP and ADSL router linked to a linksys wireless router to which all my machines are connected. I would want to setup SVN on one of machines and provide SSH access which should be accessible by users outside my network. Would this be possible? Even just SVN access through web should be fine. Please let me know what all things should be done to achieve this ? I have Ubuntu VM running in a iMac Leopard machine and another 2 Win 7 32/64 bit machines.     Hi I need to control a Windows 7 PC via VNC from a Mac in an office LAN. Since the IPs are dynamically assigned, I'd like the PC to appear in my "Places" and in the automatically detected nearby servers in VNC client I'm using -- both of which require the PC to advertise its VNC server via Samba (right?). I tried installing ultravnc, which works when I access it directly by IP, but it doesn't seem to advertise itself in the network. Any ideas?

  • Can't get DHCPd to assign IPs to unknown clients

    I'm using Webmin to admin our DHCPd server. But I'm having a hard time getting it to assign IP addresses to unknown clients. The only way I can get it to assign an IP is to make sure a host is added to DHCPd as a host so that it gets a static-lease IP assigned to it. I thought "Allow Unknown Clients" was the key, but it still isn't assigning IPs to unknown clients. I have a pool setup so that the unknown clients should get an IP between 10.20.0.200 - 10.20.0.249. Here is the config file.   • Ping from specific network adapter on Windows

    Hey, I've been troubleshooting network issues on servers with 2 NICs and laptops with wired and wireless cards. How can I force the PING and TELNET to be sent from a specific adapter? I know it's a trouble with windows. Turning off one of the adapters is not an option, I am always connected through one of the adapters. There must be some command line option to prefer one adapter over the other. Thanks
