  • Unicode filename to python subprocess.call()

    I'm trying to run subprocess.call() with unicode filename, and here is simplified problem: n = u'c:\\windows\\notepad.exe ' f = u'c:\\temp\\nèw.txt' subprocess.call(n + f) which raises famous error: UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xe8' Encoding to utf-8 produces wrong filename, and mbcs passes filename as new.txt without accent I just can't read any more on this confusing subject and spin in circle.   • How to launch Glassfish v3 without backgrounding

    Glassfish v3 is launched as follows: ./bin/asadmin start-domain <domain-name> This script eventually runs: exec "$JAVA" -jar "$AS_INSTALL_LIB/admin-cli.jar" "$@" admin-cli.jar eventually launches another process, effectively putting itself into the background. I would like to launch glassfish without putting itself in the background for the purpose of monitoring with daemontools (ie: svc). Is this possible? The documentation talks about using inittab here which seems like it would also require a way to launch it without forking or backgrounding so some other process (eg: inittab, evc, etc.) can watch the process id and restart it if it crashes. However, in this inittab example, is it using the same backgrounding cmd line, so I don't know how inittab can possibly respawn the process when it doesn't know what process id to watch. Am I missing something?

To remove this application, you can log on as an administrator, or contact your technical support group for assistance." Why this happens instead of asking for elevation with admin password? How can I avoid this stupid error?

    When run through javac on the cmd line Sun JVM 1.6.0_20, this code produces 6 .class files OuterClass.class OuterClass$1.class OuterClass$InnerClass.class OuterClass$InnerClass2.class OuterClass$InnerClass$InnerInnerClass.class OuterClass$PrivateInnerClass.class When run through JDT in eclipse, it produces only 5 classes. OuterClass.class OuterClass$1.class OuterClass$InnerClass.class OuterClass$InnerClass2.class OuterClass$InnerClass$InnerInnerClass.class OuterClass$PrivateInnerClass.class When decompiled, OuterClass$1.class contains nothing. I have changed the icon that shows when the program is run, but I want to change the icon in the environment (e.g. Windows XP), that is for the file itself. I googled, but the best I could find is converting the .JAR to a .EXE, which is not the best choice.

  • What is the representation of the mac command key in the terminal?

    Like control key is represented by a '^' in the terminal, what is the equivalent for the command key (mac)? I am trying to remap my bash shortcuts using stty For eg stty eof ^D But instead of control, I want to use the command key. EDIT: Okay so the issue I was trying to solve was that I wanted to interchange command and control keys because I work on osx and linux and the different key combinations cause me a lot of pain. So I interchanged the modifier keys using osx preferences. But now all the bash shortcuts like Ctrl+C etc had become equivalent of using the key sequences 'cmd+c' - which is not acceptable. Thankfully iTerm2, supports remapping of modifier keys as well, so for iterm2 I reversed them again which means iTerm2 recognizes command as command and control as control. So problem solved for now.

    Hi everyone, I want to make a C# app in Mono as it's the only programming language I'm mostly comfortable with. Anyway, ATI Drivers on Linux do not have a Fan control feature and therefore the cards to tend to heat up. For me I prefer to have a cooler card. What I want to do is run a command such as: aticonfig --pplib-cmd 'set fanspeed 0 70' In a application but I the thing is..How can I run that code so it works, I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04, and it does work in the terminal, but I want to implement it into an application. While it blocks the browser during the active request, what is the most efficient way to change the cursor to the hourglass or display a wait .gif?   • ANSI C as core of a C# project? Is this possible?

    I'm writing a NON-GUI app which I want to be cross platform between OS X and Windows. I'm looking at the following architecture, but I don't know if it will work on the windows side: (Platform specific entry point) - ANSI C main loop = ANSI C model code doing data processing / logic = (Platform specific helpers) So the core stuff I'm planning to write in regular ANSI C, because A) it should be platform independent, B) I'm extremely comfortable with C, C) It can do the job and do it well (Platform specific entry point) can be written in whatever necessary to get the job done, this is a small amount of code, doesn't matter to me. (Platform specific helpers) is the sticky thing. This is stuff like parsing XML, accessing databases, graphics toolkit stuff, whatever. Things that aren't easy in C. Things that modern languages/frameworks will give for free. On OS X this code will be written in Objective-C interfacing with Cocoa. On Windows I'm thinking my best bet is to use C# So on Windows my architecture (simplified) looks like (C# or C?) - ANSI C - C# Is this possible? Some thoughts/suggestions so far.. 1) Compile my C core as a .dll -- this is fine, but seems there's no way to call my C# helpers unless I can somehow get function pointers and pass them to my core, but that seems unlikely 2) Compile a C .exe and a C# .exe and have them talk via shared memory or some kind of IPC. I'm not entirely opposed to this but it obviously introduces a lot of complexity so it doesn't seem ideal 3) Instead of C# use C++, it gets me some nice data management stuff and nice helper code. And I can mix it pretty easily. And the work I do could probably easily port to Linux. But I really don't like C++, and I don't want this to turn in to a 3rd-party-library-fest. Not that it's a huge deal, but it's 2010.. anything for basic data management should be built in. And targetting Linux is really not a priority. Note that no "total" alternatives are OK as suggested in other similar questions on SO I've seen; java, RealBasic, mono.. this is an extremely performance intensive application doing soft realtime for game/simulation purposes, I need C & friends here to do it right (maybe you don't, but I do)

I've gotten the ActiveX installer to build and function properly using WiX and I'd really like to combine both into a single installer. I'm feeling just about dangerous enough with WiX to attempt it, but would be interested in any advice (particularly if it is inadvisable).

  • jquery trouble with getJSON call.

    Hi guys. Got some basic problem again. I need to modify a function that previously returned a in code written object. Im now trying to get the object from json through $.getJSON function getEventData() { var result = ''; $.getJSON("ajax.php?cmd=getbydate&fromdate=&todate=", function(data){ result = data; }); return result; } Problem is that result isn't set in the callback function for obvious reasons. Because In release time resources became part of project.exe file and if you make binding from file(Mean set Image.source with Image file address), you must always put image file in the same address(disaster programing) :)

  • Application doesn't start

    Hello, I am having a rather strange problem, I deployed 2 .NET applications on my machine. Both run on v2.0. Now, while one of it works smoothly, the other one doesn't even start! Moreover, it doesn't throw any error, I couldn't see any error listings in the Event Viewer. Becoming hard to debug. On every other machine, both the exe's work perfectly fine! Any known issues?
