  Hello, I'm no Java guy, so I ask myself what this means: public Button(Light light) { this.light = light; } Is Button a method? I ask myself, because it takes an input parameter light. But if it was a method, why would it begin with a capital letter and has no return data type? Here comes the full example: public class Button { private Light light; public Button(Light light) { this.light = light; } public void press() { light.turnOn(); } } I know, this question is really trivial. However, I have nothing to do with Java and haven't found a description for the Button thing above. I'm just interested.

• In Drupal, how to change the values passed to Pathauto?

  I have Pathauto configured to generate an alias based on the title of a node, for a specific content type. The problem is that I want to make small changes in this title before Pathauto uses it to generate the alias. The first comment in this post suggests the use of hook_token_values, but I couldn't really understand how to use it, even after reading the docs. In my tests, when I implement this hook, the alias generated is always "array", which means I'm missing something. Any help? Thanks.

• Do I assign different or the same class id to 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the same IFilter?

  I've implemented my own Microsoft Search IFilter. I need two versions of it - 32-bit and 64-bit for deploying them on corresponding systems. In case of IFilters for any file extension I can only register one IFilter class id. Which means I can only use one version on any system. So having two class ids seems useless - it only makes the automatic installer more complex. Do I reuse the same COM class id for both or do I use different class ids?

  I am trying to understand the best way of implementing a DropDownList in ASP.NET MVC 2 using the DropDownListFor helper. This is a multi-part question. First, what is the best way to pass the list data to the view? Pass the list in your model with a SelectList property that contains the data Pass the list in via ViewData How do I get a blank value in the DropDownList? Should I build it into the SelectList when I am creating it or is there some other means to tell the helper to auto create an empty value? Lastly, if for some reason there is a server side error and I need to redisplay the screen with the DropDownList, do I need to fetch the list values again to pass into the view model? This data is not maintained between posts (at least not when I pass it via my view model) so I was going to just fetch it again (it's cached). Am I going about this correctly?

• LAMP Stack with APC installed - WordPress Site - Is WP opcode being cached with APC?

  I have a LAMP stack with APC installed. I have a WordPress site on this server. Is WP taking advantage of the opcode caching? I have done no WP configurations. My understanding is that simply having APC installed means that all PHP code is being cached. If that is untrue, please point me to the direction where I can configure WP to take advantage of APC. Note: I thought about this as a ServerFault question, but since the solution to is code related I posted on Stackoverflow.

  Hi, im brand spanking new to WCF and Im trying to understand how to correctly expose my BLL to it. So I now need to access some information, I have created another .svc file called Project.svc and IProject.cs, this contains the same info as resource (apart from the type is Project) But this now means I have another webservice, surley this is not right!?

  So a FILE stream can have both input and output buffers. You can adjust the output stream using setvbuf (I am unaware of any method to play with the input buffer size and behavior). Also, by default the buffer is BUFSIZ (not sure if this is a POSIX or C thing). It is very clear what this means for stdin/stdout/stderr, but what are the defaults for newly opened files? Are they buffered for both input and output? Or perhaps just one? If it is buffered, does output default to block or line mode?

• C# "Could not find a part of the path" - Creating Local File

  I am trying to write to a folder that is located on my C:\ drive. I keep getting the error of : Could not find a part of the path .. etc My filepath looks basically like this : C:\WebRoot\ManagedFiles\folder\thumbs\5c27a312-343e-4bdf-b294-0d599330c42d\Image\lighthouse.jpg And I am writing to it like so : using (MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream()) { thumbImage.Save(memoryStream, ImageFormat.Jpeg); using (FileStream diskCacheStream = new FileStream(cachePath, FileMode.CreateNew)) { memoryStream.WriteTo(diskCacheStream); } memoryStream.WriteTo(context.Response.OutputStream); } Don't worry too much about the memory stream. It is just outputting it (After I save it). Since I am creating a file, I am a bit perplexed as to why it cannot find the file (Shouldn't it just write to where I tell it to, regardless?). The strange thing is, It has no issue when I'm testing it above using File.Exists. Obviously that is returning false, But it means that atleast my Filepath is semi legit. Any help is much appreciated.

• How can I calculate data for a boxplot (quartiles, median) in a Rails app on Heroku? (Heroku uses Po

  I'm trying to calculate the data needed to generate a box plot which means I need to figure out the 1st and 3rd Quartiles along with the median. I have found some solutions for doing it in Postgresql however they seem to depend on either PL/Python or PL/R which it seems like Heroku does not have either enabled for their postgresql databases. In fact I ran "select lanname from pg_language;" and only got back "internal". I also found some code to do it in pure ruby but that seems somewhat inefficient to me. I'm rather new to Box Plots, Postgresql, and Ruby on Rails so I'm open to suggestions on how I should handle this. There is a possibility to have a lot of data which is why I'm concerned with performance however if the solution ends up being too complex I may just do it in ruby and if my application gets big enough to warrant it get my own Postgresql I can host somewhere else. *note: since I was only able to post one link, cause I'm new, I decided to share a pastie with some relevant information

  My VB6 application which runs successfully on many machines is producing the above error on just 1 users machine. Machine has Vista SP1 which means the MDAC installer will not work since MDAC 2.8 is already included.   Im running a asp.net website on windows 2003 ii6. Every 24-28 hours im getting the following error: When the error occurres all users are disconnected from the website. Event Type: Warning Event Source: W3SVC Event Category: None Event ID: 1013 Date: 02/02/2010 Time: 19:29:38 User: N/A A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' exceeded time limits during shut down. Is this related to application pool recycle? if so , is it a must to recycle iis pool? thanks!

• .NET Application using a native DLL (build management)

  I have a .NET app that is dependent on a native DLL. I have the .NET app set as AnyCPU. In the post-build step, I plan to copy the correct native DLL from some directory (x86 or AMD64) and place it in the target path. However, this doesn't work. On a 64-bit machine, the environment variable PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE is "x86" in Visual Studio. My alternative right now is to create a small tool that outputs the processor architecture. This will be used by the post-build step. Is there a better alternative? (Side Note: when deploying/packaging the app, the right native DLL is copied to the right platform. But this means we have two separate release folders for x86 and AMD64, which is OK since this is for a device driver. The app is a utility tool for the driver).

  AJAX is a pain in the ass because it essentially means you'll have to write two sets of similarish code: one for browsers with JavaScript enabled and those without. Not only this, but you have to connect JavaScript events to hook into your models and display the results. And if all that weren't bad enough, you need to send an address change with the request, otherwise the user won't be able to "click back" correctly (if confused look at what happens to the address bar when you click links in GMail). We're searching for something that had the foresight and design goals with all these concerns in mind. Performance and security are also obvious major concerns. We love config-based systems as well, where you don't have to write a lot of code you just drop it into an easily read config format. It's like asking for the holy grail right?

  Hi to all, first i would like to say i am Newbie in C++. As part of my master thesis i am writing a program in C++ which also get as parameters the variables m and d (both integers). Were d is the power of 2 (this means 2^d elements). Parameter m define the number of possible interactions between one element and the total group (2^d elements). The number of possible interactions is computed as following: \kappa = \sum_{i=0}^m\binom{d}{i} (at present i generate vector of vectors for 2^d x \kappa, but my Prof. would like me to create different statistics to different m's. My first though was to to generate a dynamic array of m arrays of different sizes... Then i though of defining a 3-dim array with the biggest needed 2d array, but also program speed is important (e.g d = 20). i would like to ask for your advice how to define such kind of dynamic array that will also be fast. • Problem building PyGTK on CentOS

  I am trying to build PyGTK on CentOS for a non-standard Python (2.6, vs the out-of-the-box 2.4). It requires that I first build pygobject. pygobject-2.18.0 fails at the configure step. The error messages is as follows: checking for GLIB - version >= 2.14.0... no *** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why... *** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the *** exact error that occured. This usually means GLIB is incorrectly installed. configure: error: maybe you want the pygobject-2-4 branch? I have downloaded, built and successfully installed glib. The config.log file contains the following output: configure:6893: gcc -E conftest.c conftest.c:13:28: error: ac_nonexistent.h: No such file or directory What am I doing wrong?

• Test iPhone in-app purchases on a different bundle?

  We have a group of beta testers for iPhone app. Recently, we added in-app purchases to the app. Before this, we would send out ad hoc builds to beta testers using a separate bundle ID and name so that they could have the store build and the ad hoc build on their phones. However, it seems like we have to build the ad hoc copy with the same Bundle ID to test in-app purchases, and this means we can't send out a seperate beta copy - our beta file (annoyingly) overwrites the user's store-bought app. Is there any way to test in-app purchases in a different bundle ID? Do I need to set up fake, test in-app purchases for the test build too?

• firefox open local link to directory with explorer

  On a Website for our internal use i show links to local files and folders. the links are like this: href="file://C:/example/" href="file://C:/example/test.odt" The Problem is now that the link to the directory does open in firefox itself with a useless directory listing. Useless because you can just see the files or open them but not copy, insert, delete... The link to the file work normal and the file is opend by OpenOffice. By changing the configuration of firefox and setting the following key to false I can open the directory in with explorer.exe but for the file I have to choose the right application. network.protocol-handler.expose.file Does someone know a way to get both to work like i want? Means that the Directory is shown by explorer.exe and all files are opened by the right application. This can be by configuring Firefox or windows, changing the links, or even by writing a small program which opens all the file protocol correctly and will be used as protocol handler for the file protocol in firefox. • Parameters with dots on the URI

  In my application, there is a resource, machine, and a nested resource from machine: ip. I want to be able to access the URI of an Ip typing the ip address. The URI should be something like this: /machines/m123/ips/192.168.0.1.xml Where "m123" is the name of the machine and "192.168.0.1" is one of the ips of that machine. The problem here is that rails miss understand the dots from the ip and the format. When I try to access this page, i get: No route matches "/machines/m123/ips/192.168.0.1.xml" And if I replace the dots for any other character it works, witch means that rails isn't handling the dots on the URI. Is there any way to enter a more complex regexp on the routes to make sure rails can treat it the way I want? I'm using rails 2.3.5 and ruby 1.8.7. Thank you.

  Hi, I have created a coded ui test that checks something in my software. It worked fine, but now I keep getting null reference exception when I try to interact with the UITestControl. The starnge thing is, that the UITestControl's 'Exist' property returns true, which means that the control had been found. I've searched and found this topic: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vsautotest/thread/c2e6e5c3-2503-4506-9963-733fd84fbd25, But I have checked in my project, and the 'Copy Local' propert of these assemblies is set to false. I think that this execption first occurred after I have added an app.config file to my project. Maybe this might be the problem? If so, how can I fix this without deleting my app.config file? • How do I best run a search on Date when it is not a :has_many association?

  I have a number of activities that have a calculated scheduled date. The activities, for example, Email, have a email.days method which is the days from a Contact.start_date on which it should be sent. This means contact.start_date + email.days yields a date on which email is sent to contact. I would like to use link_to around the date, so I can see all the emails and associated contacts that are to be scheduled on that date. However, this "date" is not an attribute or an associate, so I'm not linking to a model's view. It's calculated. So: 1) What should the actual "format" of the date that gets passed in the URl be? What is the method to do the consistent conversion? 2) How do I (find) all instances, because this "date" is not an actual attribute, is it a calculated value which changes depending on the two associated models of Contact and Email. Even if it has the "m" (multiline) modifier...

  Once a member signs up a form they can download the pdf file. Currently, the pdf file is link with HTML which means that anyone with the url can download it. What's the best way to encrypt a page so that the user don't see the url to a pdf file. I tried creating a flash file and link the URL from flash using the following: var myPDF = new URLRequest("temp/test.pdf"); navigateToURL(myPDF); but it opens a new window and show's the URL !!! is there a way to make the browse forcefully download the file instead of opening in on a new browser.
