  Hi, I am a novice to mysql DB. I am trying to run the MYSQL Server on Ubuntu 10.04. Through Synaptic Package Manager I am have installed the mysql version: mysql-client-5.1 I wonder that how was the database password set for the mysql-client software that I installed through the above way.It would be nice if you could enlighten me on this. • Prevent an Activity from being killed by the OS while starting a child activity

  I have a main activity which calls a child one via Intent I = new Intent(this, Child.class); startActivityForResult(I, 0); But as soon as Child becomes visible the main activity gets its onStop and immediately after that onDestroy method triggered. And as soon as I call finish() within the Child activity or press the back button, the Child activity closes and the home screen shows (instead of the main activity). How can I prevent the main activity from being destroyed? :\

• How to listen for file system changes MAC - kFSEventStreamCreateFlagWatchRoot

  Hi All, I am listening for Directory and disk changes in a COCOA project using FSEvents. I need to get events when a root folder is renamed or deleted. So, I passed kFSEventStreamCreateFlagWatchRoot while creating the FSEventStream.But even if I delete or rename the root folder I am not getting corresponding FSEventStreamEventFlags. Any idea what could possibly be the issue. I am listening for changes in a USB mounted device. I used both FSEventStreamCreate and FSEventStreamCreateRelativeToDevice. One thing I notices is when I try with FSEventStreamCreate I get the following error message while creating FSEventStream: (CarbonCore.framework) FSEventStreamCreate: watch_all_parents: error trying to add kqueue for fd 7 (/Volumes/NO NAME; Operation not supported) But with FSEventStreamCreateRelativeToDevice there are no errors but still not getting kFSEventStreamEventFlagRootChanged in event flags. Also, while creation using FSEventStreamCreateRelativeToDevice apple say's if I want to listen to root path changes pass emty string "". But I am not able to listen to root path changes by passing empty string. But when I pass "/" it works. But even for "/" I do not get any proper FSEventStreamEventFlags.   I need to check if I Filesystem exists, and if it does exist there is 300 MB of space in it. • iPhone OS: Posting an image + text "story" to a user's news feed through the facebook api

  So what I am trying to do is post an image that has been created by a user on an iphone into that users newsfeed. The functionality I am having a hard time understanding if it is possible: Can I pass a local NSURL (or URL?)(to a png file that lives in the documents folder) through a JSON string and onto Facebook? i want to mimic the action of a user going to his/her facebook page, clicking into the textfield for their newsfeeld, uploading an image by clicking the "photos" icon and selecting an image from a local disk and uploading it. I would also like to add some text into the post optionally. I'm just getting started with the Facebook api and it seems pretty tough right now, any help would be appreciated. code examples appreciated. Thanks, Nick

• OS X: Terminal output of javac is garbled.

  I've got my computer set up in Japanese (hey, it's good language practice), and everything is all fine and dandy... except javac. It displays localized error messages out to the console, but they're in Shift-JIS, not UTF8: $ javac this-file-doesnt-exist.java javac: ?t?@?C??????????????: this-file-doesnt-exist.java ?g????: javac <options> <source files> ?g?p?\??I?v?V?????~??X?g?????A-help ???g?p???? If I pipe the output through nkf -w, it's readable, but that's not really much of a solution: $ javac this-file-doesnt-exist.java 2>&1 | nkf -w javac: ????????????: this-file-doesnt-exist.java ???: javac <options> <source files> ????????????????????-help ?????? Everything else works fine (with UTF8) from the command-line; I can type filenames in Japanese, tab-completion works fine, vi can edit UTF-8 files, etc. Although java itself spits out all its messages in English (which is fine). Here's the relevant bits of my environment: LC_CTYPE=UTF-8 LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 From what it looks like, javac isn't picking up the encoding properly, and java isn't picking up the language at all. I've tried -Dfile.encoding=utf8 as well, but that does nada, and documentation on the localization of the JVM toolchain is pretty nonexistent, at least from Google.

  I have a rails environment which I set-up with macports. I recently updated macports which seems to have had the side effect of breaking rails. • WeakReferences are not freed in embedded OS

  I've got a strange behavior here: I get a massive memory leak in production running a WPF application that runs on a DLOG-Terminal (Windows Embedded Standard SP1) that behaves perfectly fine if I run it localy on a normal desktop (Win7 prof.) After many unsucessful attempts to find any problem I put one of those directly beside my monitor, installed the ANTs MemoryProfiler and did one hour test run simulating user operations on both the terminal and my development PC. Result is, that due to some strange reasons the embedded system piles up a huge amount of WeakReference and EffectiveValueEntry[] Objects. Here are are some pictures: Development (PC): And the terminal: Just look at the class list... Has anyone seen something like this before and are there known solutions to this? Where can I get help? (PS the terminals where installed with images prepared for .net4)

  Possible Duplicate: Mount ext2/ext3 in Mac OS X Snow Leopard I have a 1tb hard drive, I want it to have one partition that can serve as an interchange between linux (ubuntu) and mac (snow leopard). HFS+ scares me a bit, and I can't seem to get a clear picture on whether or not something like fuse can reliably write ext3 partitions in mac. Any good advice on this topic? Should I just pick HFS+ or ext3 and hope for the best (or just deal with only getting read-only on one OS)?

• iPhone OS: Rotate just the button images, not the views

  Hi, I am developing an iPad application which is basically a big drawing canvas with a couple of button at the side. (Doesn't sound very original, does it? :P) No matter how the user holds the device, the canvas should remain in place and should not be rotated. The simplest way to achieve this would be to support just one orientation. However, I would like the images on the buttons to rotate (like in the iPhone camera app) when the device is rotated. UIPopoverControllers should also use the users current orientation (and not appear sideways). What is the best way to achieve this? (I figured I could rotate the canvas back into place with an affineTransform, but I don't think it is ideal.) Thanks in advance!

• trouble accessing localhost from ie7 running on parallels (win xp) on mac os x

  I'm running the app engine devserver on localhost:8080, and want to access it from ie7 running on parallels. I've tried all of the tips here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/61449/how-do-i-access-the-host-from-vmware-fusion And they seem like they should work, particularly accessing via the gateway ip address. I've also sudo ipfw add allow tcp from 8080 to 8089 for good measure. Still no dice. I can access the external internet from ie7. The connection settings on parallels are set to 'Shared networking'. I'm out of ideas.

I have the ff. test code: javax.swing.JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Hello, world!"); Running it with or without, say, -Duser.language=zh and -Duser.country=TW makes no difference. I.e., the OK button is still labeled "OK". In Windows, for example, it is replaced with the Traditional Chinese equivalent.

I have gone through the entire stackoverflow.com and found some relevant answers but all of them are obsolete and doesn't work with iOS 4.0 anymore. The most famous solution for this problem is NSString *num = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] stringForKey:@"SBFormattedPhoneNumber"]; but as I mentioned this solution no more works with iOS 4.0 As my application is intended towards the jail broken phones and not intended the Apple app store so I am not worried about my app rejection, hence any private API will also work for me. Also please let me know if we can fetch IMSI number from SIM using any private APIs of iPhone

  So i'd like to do this: switch (keyPath) { case @"refreshCount": //do stuff case @"timesLaunched": //do other stuff } but apparently you can only use integers as the switch quantity. Is the only way to do this parse the string into an integer identifier and then run the switch statement? like this: nsinteger num = nil; if (keyPath isEqual:@"refreshCount") { num = 0 } if (keyPath isEqual:@"timesLaunched") { num = 1 } I'm trying to optimize this code to be as quick as possible because its going to get called quite often. thanks, Nick
