  • handleOpenURL not called using a custom url schema in iPhone OS

    Hi, I have successfuly added my own url schemes to my App. The App correctly launches using the schemes. Now I want to handle the incoming data but the delegate is not called. It is an universal app and I have added the following function to both AppDelegates: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application handleOpenURL:(NSURL *)url { if (!url) { return NO; } NSString *URLString = [url absoluteString]; UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:NSLocalizedString(@"test message", nil) message:URLString delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:nil otherButtonTitles:@"OK", nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; return YES; } I am testing with a schema like: myapp://appalarm.com …and would expect to be appalarm.com in the URLString What is wrong with it?   • Problem deploying Rails with Passenger to Mac OS X Leopard Server

    I'm spinning my wheels... Apache is working and serving static html, png, etc. normally. Trying to get Passenger to serve a rails app out of www.mydomain.com/rails/ as it stands when i try to hit my app: www.mydomain.com/rails/myapp/railsclassname I get only an Apache 403 Errors. Nothing in myapp's Production Log. Apache2 access.log: "GET /rails/ HTTP/1.1" 403 1085 Apache2 error.log: [Fri Jun 11 22:44:01 2010] [error] [client 10.0.1.41] File does not exist: /Library/WebServer/wwwroot/rails/railsclassname i've even tried www.mydomain.com/myapp/classname Passenger, obviously, isn't routing requests made into my sub-folder rails/ to my rails app. not sure where i've screwed up. the most obvious thing is "Passenger doesn't seem to be running"... instructions I've followed just say to sudo apachectl graceful, which i've done (as well as stopped/started). new to this so go easy on me! Here's some info that might be helpful. happy to provide more as needed...   • Editing Mac OS X login items in Objective-C through AppleScript

    In my Cocoa program, I want to examine what programs are registered to run at startup and modify that list as I feel appropriate. In order to be compatible with Tiger it seems like I need to work through AppleScript. I currently have the following code: NSDictionary* errorDict; NSAppleEventDescriptor* returnDescriptor = NULL; NSString *appleSource = @"tell application \"System Events\"\n\ get every login item\n\ end tell"; NSAppleScript *appleScript = [[NSAppleScript alloc] initWithSource: appleSource]; returnDescriptor = [appleScript executeAndReturnError: &errorDict]; If I run that command in AppleScript, I get back an array of login items. However, I can't figure out how to iterate through this array in Objective-C. More specifically, I want to examine the names and paths of the programs registered to run at startup. Any ideas?

  • Ruby send mail with smtp

    I'm trying to send simple email via Ruby (no rails) on OS X, with XCode (which installs Ruby.) But I'm running into a problem with my smtp server which requires the email client to check mail before sending as a form of authentication. So with the script below I get an error: 500 Unrecognized command (Net::SMTPAuthenticationError). How can I get Ruby to authenticate with the smtp server in a "POP" fashion before I can send mail? Not download mail; I only want to send, but I have to check mail before I send. POP3 is not available at the smtp server. And I want to not have to install any other Ruby pieces and stay with using net/smtp, if at all possible. require 'net/smtp' message = <<MESSAGE_END From: A Test Sender <[email protected]> To: A Test User <[email protected]> Subject: e-mail test This is a test e-mail message.   • iPhone OS: Fetching a random entity instance using NSPredicate Nsfetchrequest and core data

    Working on an app where I have a large collections of managed objects against which I want to fetch a few random instances. My question is, is there any way I can use NSPredicate and NSFetchRequest to return several objects at random. I saw that you could actually add a NSFetchRequest into the entity using the data modeler, any way to do the random fetch using this? Also what would be the best method for determining the "count" of a table so I can set the bounds of the random number generator. let me know if you need more details. Thanks! Nick

  • Cufon delay in WordPress, Mac/Safari/FF...

    Using cufon 'manually' not the plugin.... I have a delay on many page loads in Safari and FF on the Cufon enabled headings.... http://www.budewebdesign.com/haf Tried moving Cufon higher up (eg before wp_head() and the plugin code that calls, without any real effect. Some pages no problem but others just a long enough delay to be annoying. I'm not really keen on hiding the headings before the page load completes as is suggested elsewhere. If it loads without delay some of the time, I wonder if it can be made to 'all' of the time :) My connection speed is good. Thanks for any ideas on this.

Searches of pretty much everywhere I could think of turn up little to explain why the rate is so low. I asked a few friends and they're seeing the same thing. What gives and how can I make it better?   • Flash video hiding the cursor on Mac OS X

    I found a Core Graphics function, CGCursorIsVisible, that one can use to determine whether the mouse cursor is shown on screen. I have a small app that uses a timer to call that function a few times a second to see if the cursor is shown or hidden (as I found no way to get my app notified when the mouse cursor shown/hidden status changes). The above works correctly except… when the Flash browser plugin plays a video: the mouse cursor gets hidden after a few seconds of mouse inactivity but CGCursorIsVisible() still keeps telling me that the cursor is indeed shown as if nothing happened. What I need is to be able to tell, at any given moment, whether the mouse cursor is shown to the end user on any screen. Is there any way to do that even in the case of playing a video using the Flash plugin?

    I am looking to create a web-project that is able to install with a program. The user should be able to download an archive file or tar file, run it (executable), and the setup script would ask for paths and configurable values and then unpack its 'payload' and sorting out the contents for deployment. This would be a Linux version of the MSI installer. Is there such a thing for Linux operating systems? This does not involve kernel level manipulations. All it needs to do is copy directories and files on the filesystem, which should cover about 80% if not more of all the *nix distributions.

  • Compiling Gearman extension for PHP on OS-X Snow Leopard with Zend Server Community Edition

    I was wondering if anyone else has figured out how to solve this problem. Whether I install the extension via PECL or compile it by hand, I get the same error: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/local/zend/lib/php_extensions/gearman.so' - dlopen(/usr/local/zend/lib/php_extensions/gearman.so, 9): no suitable image found. Did find: /usr/local/zend/lib/php_extensions/gearman.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture in Unknown on line 0 I have no idea how to fix this problem and I can only bang my head into my desk so many times.

    Hi Everyone. I had this issue, with the beta2 and I thought the beta3 was going to solve it, but I'm starting to think that I'm doing something wrong. I have a MPMoviePlayerViewController playing a video and when the video ends I'm trying to change the video for another like this: [moviePlayerViewController.moviePlayer setContentURL:newVideoURL]; The app crashes when it reaches this point.   • How to burn an Audio CD programmatically in Mac OS X

    All the info I can find about burning cd's is for Windows, or about full programs to burn cd's. I would however like to be able to burn an Audio CD directly from within my program. I don't mind using Cocoa or Carbon, or if there are no API's available to do this directly, using a command-line program that can use a wav/aiff file as input would be a possibility too if it can be distributed with my application. Because it will be used to burn dj mixes to cd, it would also be great if it is possible to create different tracks without a gap between them.

  • How do I make exchange forward email to a non-exchange mail server (postfix on mac)?

    Hi, I'm not sure what I'm doing. Exchange has been working a long time. I just installed a mac mail server postfix/dovecot. They both work but not together. If I send email directly to the new server with [email protected], I can send email to the Internet and I can receive email at the [email protected]. But, if I log onto my exchange account with OWA and I put in [email protected] I never receive it and I never get any errors back in OWA or on my mac server logs. It just disappears. On the mac, I thought that as long as I had mail running and had SMTP set to allow incoming email checked it would receive email from anywhere. How can I make my Exchange server send email to the mac box if the email doesn't exist in the exchange server? Is this where I would put a new SMTP connector and a bridgehead using DNS? Thank you for any help.

  • Programmatically talking to a Serial Port in OS X or Linux

    I have a Prolite LED sign that I like to set up to show scrolling search queries from a apache logs and other fun statistics. The problem is, my G5 does not have a serial port, so I have to use a usb to serial dongle. It shows up as /dev/cu.usbserial and /dev/tty.usbserial . When i do this everything seems to be hunky-dory: stty -f /dev/cu.usbserial speed 9600 baud; lflags: -icanon -isig -iexten -echo iflags: -icrnl -ixon -ixany -imaxbel -brkint oflags: -opost -onlcr -oxtabs cflags: cs8 -parenb Everything also works when I use the serial port tool to talk to it. If I run this piece of code while the above mentioned serial port tool, everthing also works. But as soon as I disconnect the tool the connection gets lost. #!/usr/bin/python import serial ser = serial.Serial('/dev/cu.usbserial', 9600, timeout=10) ser.write("<ID01><PA> \r\n") read_chars = ser.read(20) print read_chars ser.close() So the question is, what magicks do I need to perform to start talking to the serial port without the serial port tool? Is that a permissions problem? Also, what's the difference between /dev/cu.usbserial and /dev/tty.usbserial?

  • Looking for Light Time Management Software Suggestions (for Mac)

    I'm looking for a simple project management app that performs task scheduling, along the line of Merlin or MS Project, but no where near as robustly. I don't need to deal with other (human) resources, but I work on anything from 3 to 6 different projects at a time. What I'd like is to be able to input deadlines and tasks, and have a schedule suggested to complete them. I do technical work, but I don't think I need anything specifically for software development, especially considering I do plenty of other kinds of things, like graphic design and social media PR. I'd really like this to be dead simple, as simple as possible. Suggestions? OmniPlan, something web-based? Definitely cannot afford anything too extravagant, really looking for something under $200.   • C/C++/Assembly Programatically detect if hyper-threading is active on Windows, Mac and Linux

    I can already correctly detect the number of logical processors correctly on all three of these platforms. To be able to detect the number of physical processors/cores correctly I'll have to detect if hyperthreading is supported AND active (or enabled if you prefer) and if so divide the number of logical processors by 2 to determine the number of physical processors. Perphaps I should provide an example: A quad core Intel CPU's with hyperthreading enabled has 4 physical cores, yet 8 logical processors (hyperthreading creates 4 more logical processors). So my current function would detect 8 instead of the desired 4. My question therefore is if there is a way to detect whether hyperthreading is supported AND ENABLED?
