• How To Adjust Properly Brightness And Contrast On Monitor

  This days, it seems that I either go worse with my eyes or some settings with contrast and brightness have been changed. However, I have been searching now for some tutorial on how to adjust contrast and brightness, and I have found already some, on how to use Microsoft Win7 Calibrate Display Color program, but some people don't recommend it.. My monitor control menu shows settings (which are by default) that contrast is set to 80, contrast to 90 and sharpnes to 45, for which I belive are pretty dam high. I'm usually every day in front of my PC about 6-10h. The biggest problem is, when the night comes, and I have to read some word document, after a 10-15m of reading, eyes starts hurting. I'm using ASUS VW198 and Nvidia 9800 GT graphic card. So please suggest me, what should I decrease, contrast or brightness or both?

• Applications starts very slowly from a network path

  Hi We have a windows 2008 server which hosts the network share \\srvcompany\lib. This share contains several applications needed for the daily business. Every client/user (all win xp) has shortcuts on the desktop to these apps. We have the problem that at several (but not all) clients the apps starts very slowly. If I copy the application's programm files to a local folder then they'll start fastly. When I watch the memory usage in the task manager on such a "slow" machine while an applications starts I notice that the memory usage grows much slowier than when I start the app from a "fast" machine. But when I copy files with Windows Explorer from this share, the speed is nearly the same. I've also checked the network driver, both tested clients have the same network card with the same driver version. Has anyone an idea where or what I should check next to solve this problem? • putty ssh client become not responding frequently in windows 7

  with celeron processor and 512 MB ram windows 7 takes too much time even to open a folder in windows explorer. I connect to internet with GPRS modem. When I tried to connect with remote linux machine with putty ssh client. The problem is the putty becomes Not responding in 2 or 3 minutes. I've to connect again and putty goes Not responding again. When i tried in Safe mode with networking, GPRS modem is not even detected. the modem is USB data card. Is it possible load USB drive in safe mode of windows 7 or any other possibility to connect with remote machine via ssh

• Detecting hardware and installing drivers in Windows XP

  I have on my desk a computer that I am reinstalling. I have just completed the Windows XP install , which is professional service pack 3. I have also installed an AV package. Now it is time to install the audio and display drivers. Windows Update does not detect the Display card, and neither the audio device. I really have no idea what devices are present in this system, and I am thinking of opening the case, and reading some IDs from the cards themselves. Before I do this, is there not some kind of tool that can automatically detect hardware and install drivers automatically. If not then at least tell me what devices are present, with some real descriptions, so I can search for drivers.

• Can the onborad LAN cause computer shutdown

  I have P4 processor with nvidia card. Now if i don't connect to internet then my computer stays on for as much i can like 4-5 days. But if i plug in the ethernet wire. Do some surfing and leave computer as it is. Then computer fails. I mean The display on screen gets off Looks like something stopping the power supply to Harddisk. But motherboard stays on , FAN is still running , i can eject CD drive as well. But no display on monitor. I have to turn off and then turn on again. I tried formatting windows XP but again same problem

• Moved VM doesnt work correctly on my Ubuntu machine

  Hi I have a Windows 7 VM that I have moved onto my Ubuntu 64bit host machine that is running VMware player 3.1.0. I think the VM was created on a Windows host. The problem I have is that when I login to this VM the screen goes blank and stays that way. The login screen is fine, but the desktop never correctly appears and sort of shows some strange pixelation that is all distorted. Seems like a virtual video card issue? If I boot into safe mode the desktop appears fine. Any ideas? Thanks

• Android: Associating Browser to File Type in App

  I'm attempting to write a simple app that associates a file type to the browser; this is assuming the browser will open the file locally... If this doesn't work, the local file - editor will be fine. I have an option of auto-mailing .ELC files from a custom app, they are basically html formatted TEXT or TXT only files; I would like to associate the .elc extension so that it will open direct from mail rather than just "Save to SD Card" as a mail option. • 3 Monitors on a Notebook

  I would like to use 3 screens on my Dell Inspiron 1720 So On the laptop built in screen have that as one, and then have 2 more screens. The catch is, that I want to play racing games with this set-up. So that my main screen is the focus area (the front window if you will) and the other 2 screens will be used for peripheral vision, on the side. The software that I use (LFS.net) does support multiple screens. However the notebook can have the main screen on, and another external screen. So I would need to split this "second" monitor output, to 2 screens, the one to the left of the main monitor, and the other one to the right. Is this possible? Is there perhaps a external card / docking station solution that could help with this? Any advice or ideas is greatly appreciated. Best Regards Rihan

• Win Server 2008 R2 - Mapped shared folder hanging?

  I have recently built a windows 2008 server R2 machine. This is purely for file server purposes and is very much a basic build. All windows updates installed and part of domain. I have setup a shared folder on the C:Drive and added permissions for domain users as co-owners. The client machines run XP SP3 and are part of the domain also. We have a few servers running the same setups on a few of our sites but this one is particular crashes users machines (explorer.exe hangs for at least a few mins) when attempting to access the shared folder. I have turned off the option on the network card for power save aswell still no change. Any help with this is very much appreciated and i look forward to hearing from you ;)

• Computer hangs on start-up, but re-start always works

  I press the power switch; the fans start whirring; then precisely nothing happens. The monitor lights (I have two monitors) blink to indicate that they aren't receiving any signal - no BIOS splash screen, nothing. This scenario occurs about 80 percent of the time, the other 20 percent being normal starts. Noticing that the computer has not started properly, I press the power switch for four seconds to turn the computer off, and then I press it again to start the computer for the second time. It always starts normally the second time. Always. The power supply is a 750W from SilverStone. The motherboard is a Gigabyte P55A-UD3P. The video card is an Asus EN9800GT. There's 8 GB of RAM. I don't know what other information might be pertinent. Help!

  Hi, this is an intermitent problem in my Sony Vaio model PCG-5K1L. I keep on getting a "No Audio Output Device is installed" when hovering my loudspeaker icon in Windows Vista. I have tried System Device Manager Sound Realtek High Definition Album Update Driver Software. The update process went through, but nothing happens. Still Vista does not seem to recognize my audio software. The strange part is that out of nothing my sound card can resume working to stop again hours later... If someone has any clues to solve this, please, help. Thanks a lot.

• Node.js/Express Partials problem: Can't be nested too deep?

  I'm learning Node.js, Express, haml.js and liking it. I've run into a prety annoying problem though. I'm pretty new to this but have been getting nice results so far. I'm writing a jquery heavy web app that relies on a table containing divs. The divs slide around, switch back and fourth and are resized etc to my hearts content. What I'm looking for a way to switch (template?) the divs. Since I've been building in express and mimicking the chat example it would make sense to use partials. The rub is that I've been using inexplicit divs in haml, held within a td. The divs are cunstructed as follows: %tr %td .class1.class2.class3.classetc Which has worked fine cross browser. Parsing the classes works great for the js code to pass arguments around, fetch values etc. What I'd like to be able to do is something like: %tr %td .class1.class2.class3.classetc %ul#messages != this.partial('message.html.haml', { collection: messages }) Any combination I've tried with this has failed however. And I might have tried them all. If I could put a partial into that div I'd probably be set. And you can nest them as long as you use #ids instead of .classes. But if you use more than one class it breaks! I think that's the most accurate way of summing it up. How do you do this? I've checked out various templating solutions like mu.js and micro template like by John Resig. I earlier checked out this thread on templating engines. It's very possible I'm making some fundamental mistake here, I'm new to this. What's a good way to do this?

• How to get monitor resolution of 1680x1050 using ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO in a dual monitor setup

  I have Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics card in my Windows Server 2008 x64 machine. It has two outputs a VGA and a DVI. I have connected the DVI to my Dell 24" monitor with 1900x1200 resolution and it works 100%. The VGA I have connected to my second monitor a Samsung 22" with native resolution of 1680x1050. But the ATI driver and Catalyst control centre doesn't show this resolution as an option. If I choose a lower resolution like 1280x1024 it looks really bad and fuzzy. I searched in google and downloaded the powerstrip tool that allowed me to create a custom resolution of 1680x1050 and then this option shows up in Catalyst control centre and my 2nd monitor works fine now. But I don't want to pay for an application to choose a display resolution. Why doesn't ATI show me that option by default even though it has no problem in actually supporting the display at resolution. Is there a way to get 1680x1050 resolution using ATI drivers only ?

• Windows 8.1 will not go back to sleep after waking up

  I have problems putting Windows to sleep and starting the screen saver on my new Windows 8.1 machine. Sleep mode and screen savers work only when the computer is first powered up (or restarted). But once it goes to sleep (manually or automatically) and I wake it up later, it wont go back to sleep again and I can't use screen savers either. I updated the chipset and graphics card drivers. • Problem with Win7 connecting to Internet

  Hello, I have had Windows 7 for about a year now and for the first four months it worked perfectly. But for the last 8 months it has been horrible. It will connect to the Internet for about 5 minutes and then just lose connection. It will reconnect in about 5 minues but then it just keeps disconnecting. I ran a virus scan about 2 weeks ago and I found a Trojan on my PC which I removed and dealt with. It was fine after that but now for these last couple days it has been just as bad as before. I think a virus is causing this but I will read any suggestions and tips to help me solve this problem. Thank you. • Deploying virtual machines - Windows Guest/Linux Host or vice versa?

  I'm looking to deploy several virtual machines for users. They need access to both Windows and Linux. They also need to use the computers graphics card (for Photoshop, modeling, etc) under Windows. My question is, will an Ubuntu host/Windows guest or a Windows host/Ubuntu guest be faster? I'm somewhat worried about Windows getting a cluttered registry and slow, but on the otherhand, a Windows host would have direct access to hardware (Unless I'm just unaware of how to grant hardware access to a guest). Does the choice of software (VMware or VirtualBox) effect the choice?

• Can a motherboard be faulty even if it's getting power and so are components hooked up to it?

  Sort of a followup to this question. The mobo's getting power, the lights are on. The GPU fan is spinning (it doesn't use auxiliary power, it's only connected to the mobo). I'm not getting any video signal, and it's not the video card (nor monitor) that's faulty, so I'm suspecting mobo or CPU (possibly RAM?) and I'm trying to pinpoint which part is at fault. Is the motherboard a candidate for being broken or is it not very likely if it's getting power and powering other components? The CPU fan is getting power as well.

  I have an ASUS N53S that I mainly bought for its RAM capacity. (I run a lot of VMs.) But as a bonus, it came with a fancy ATI video card. So I decided to install GTA 4 and plug it into a big monitor and settle down for some casual mayhem. But after about 5 minutes, it goes into hibernation! What gives? Since I was using an external monitor and didn't need the keyboard (using an XBox controller) I closed the lid on the laptop. Gaming is compute-intensive, so my GPU and CPU were both working hard and generating heat. Closing the lid interfered with cooling. Since I have the laptop configured to hibernate when I press the power button, the heat-triggered shutdown caused hibernation.

• Force Windows 8 Metro apps to run lower resolutions below 1024x768?

  I have installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Samsung NB30 netbook. I was very excited to try it on this little box cause it has a touchscreen and Windows 8 is supposed to be optimized for touchscreen devices. The installation was quick and smooth and all the drivers seem to work well including the one for the touchscreen. There is one major problem, though: when I try to tap one of the tiles on the Metro UI it displays This app can't open. The screen resolution is too low for this app to run. The machine has Intel Atom N450 processor and Intel GMA 3159 integrated graphics card and has maximum resolution 1024x600. I've read that Metro requires at least 1024x768. Is there a solution to this problem? Is there a way to force Windows 8 Metro apps to run in lower resolutions?

  We use StoneEdge Order Manager, which runs under Microsoft Access, on several Windows computers as well as through Terminal Services on Windows Server 2008. Terminal Services users are unable to process credit cards using the First Data Global Gateway on the server. We have followed the necessary setup instructions provided under the user account, which involves adding a certificate in the Internet Options control panel. The Windows XP desktops require this to be done, or a generic 'unable to connect' message is shown when attempting to charge a card. On the server, this message is shown regardless of whether the certificate has been installed. Is there anything else that needs to be done that is specific to Windows Server that is not mentioned in the workstation instructions? Setup Instructions

• Nvidia 8600 GT drivers Will not run setup

  I am attempting to upgrade my video card drivers with my nvidia 8600 gt. I downloaded the drivers from NVIDIA and when I run the setup, nothing happens. It does appear in the Processes, but never does anything. I've tried restarting, tried killing the process and re-running, I am an admin account... nothing works. What is wrong? [EDIT] The installer does run, it extracts the setup files to C:\NVIDIA as normal then when it tries to run that setup to do the actual install, nothing happens (the process does show up in Task Manager and just sits there). Attempting to run the installer manually via C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\296.10\WinXP\English\Setup.exe has the process open, but nothing happens. This machine is WinXP 32bit.

• How to copy files without slowing down my app?

  I have a bunch of little files in my assets which need to be copied to the SD-card on the first start of my App. The copy code i got from here placed in an IntentService works like a charm. However, when I start to copy many litte files, the whole app gets increddible slow (I'm not really sure why by the way), which is a really bad experience for the user on first start. As I realised other apps running normal in that time, I tried to start a child process for the service, which didn't work, as I can't acess my assets from another process as far as I understood. Has anybody out there an idea how a) to copy the files without blocking my app b) to get through to my assets from a private process (process=":myOtherProcess" in Manifest) or c) solve the problem in a complete different way Edit: To make this clearer: The copying allready takes place in a seperate thread (started automaticaly by IntentService). The problem is not to separate the task of copying but that the copying in a dedicated thread somehow affects the rest of the app (e.g. blocking to many app-specific resources?) but not other apps (so it's not blocking the whole CPU or someting) Edit2: Problem solved, it turns out, there wasn't really a problem. • Can DVI look different?

  I have a desktop with an nVidia GT 9500 which has two DVI slots. I have a 24" TN-Panel TFT on that and it looks pretty good. Then I hooked it onto the DisplayPort of my ThinkPad with the Intel HD 3000 card with an DP-DVI adapter and I think that the fonts look even clearer. Both computers run Kubuntu 12.04, although the ThinkPad is freshly set up, while the desktop is migrated from the previous release. Is this a hardware thing or is it just some setting in the anti-aliasing or sub-pixel-hinting?

• memtest86+ crashing on server

  we have a few DELL 1950 servers. 1 of this servers has CentOS6.3 and its randomly rebooting so I suspected it was hardware. (no log generated) the other 4 servers do not randomly reboot. We passed memtest86+ on the 5 servers, and on 3 of them memtest86+ crashes (displaying an odd and colorful screen, like if a video card failed) Although I tested old memtest86 (not +), and all servers did not crash. I also tested other RAM testers utilities, no tool failing. have any of you guys experience this? thanks
