  • smtp.gmail.com from bash gives "Error in certificate: Peer's certificate issuer is not recognized."

    - by ndasusers
I needed my script to email admin if there is a problem, and the company only uses Gmail. Following a few posts instructions I was able to set up mailx using a .mailrc file. there was first the error of nss-config-dir I solved that by copying some .db files from a firefox directory. to ./certs and aiming to it in mailrc. A mail was sent. However, the error above came up. By some miracle, there was a Google certificate in the .db. It showed up with this command: ~]$ certutil -L -d certs Certificate Nickname Trust Attributes SSL,S/MIME,JAR/XPI GeoTrust SSL CA ,, VeriSign Class 3 Secure Server CA - G3 ,, Microsoft Internet Authority ,, VeriSign Class 3 Extended Validation SSL CA ,, Akamai Subordinate CA 3 ,, MSIT Machine Auth CA 2 ,, Google Internet Authority ,, Most likely, it can be ignored, because the mail worked anyway. Finally, after pulling some hair and many googles, I found out how to rid myself of the annoyance. First, export the existing certificate to a ASSCII file: ~]$ certutil -L -n 'Google Internet Authority' -d certs -a > google.cert.asc Now re-import that file, and mark it as a trusted for SSL certificates, ala: ~]$ certutil -A -t "C,," -n 'Google Internet Authority' -d certs -i google.cert.asc After this, listing shows it trusted: ~]$ certutil -L -d certs Certificate Nickname Trust Attributes SSL,S/MIME,JAR/XPI ... Google Internet Authority C,, And mailx sends out with no hitch. ~]$ /bin/mailx -A gmail -s "Whadda ya no" [email protected] ho ho ho EOT ~]$ I hope it is helpful to someone looking to be done with the error. Also, I am curious about somethings. How could I get this certificate, if it were not in the mozilla database by chance? Is there for instance, something like this? ~]$ certutil -A -t "C,," \ -n 'gmail.com' \ -d certs \ -i 'http://google.com/cert/this...'

  • Configuring zend to use gmail smtp: Windows Apache dev-environment: "Could not open socket" error - repeatedly - going mad

    - by confused
My dev environment is Win XP SP2 / Apache 2.something PHP 5.something_or_other My prod env is Linux Ubuntu / Apache 2.something_else PHP 5.something_or_other_else The code is all Zend Framework Version: 1.11.1 I can telnet to: smtp.gmail.com 465 from the PC. I have Mercury configured on my PC to use gmail as it's smtp host and it works just fine. (MercuryC SMTP Client). Mercury is set to use port 465 and SSL on smtp.gmail.com -- No problem. Zend mail works just fine on my production environment using the production mail server to send out mail. It's the same basic application.ini but with different values in the mail variables. On my local PC dev setup, my application.ini contains: (same values as I use in Mercury) mail.templatePath = APPLICATION_PATH "/emails" mail.sender.name = "myAccount" mail.sender.email = "[email protected]" mail.host = smtp.gmail.com mail.smtp.auth = "login" mail.smtp.username = "[email protected]" mail.smtp.password = "myPassWord" mail.smtp.ssl = "ssl" mail.smtp.port = 465 I have been doing trial and error for hours trying to get a single email out with no success. In every case, regardless of server or port settings it throws an error and reports: Could not open socket. Both Apache and Mercury Core are exceptions in my Windows Firewall config. Mercury seems to be having no problem. I have searched stackoverflow before posting this and have been googling for hours -- with no success. I am slowly losing my mind I would be very much obliged for any tip as to what might be wrong. Thanks for reading. =================== BTW When I use the SAME application.ini values on my local PC as on the production host, I get the same "Could not open socket" error. Those values are: mail.templatePath = APPLICATION_PATH "/emails" mail.sender.name = "otherUser" mail.sender.email = "[email protected]" mail.host = smtp.otherServer.com mail.smtp.auth = "login" mail.smtp.username = "[email protected]" mail.smtp.password = "otherPAssWord" mail.smtp.ssl = "ssl" mail.smtp.port = 465 I know these work in the production (Ubuntu) environment. I'm utterly baffled.

  • sendmail on Snow Leopard

    - by Jay
    I'm trying to get sendmail working on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.4), so that I can send mail with PHP's mail() function. If you know how to do this without sendmail, I'd be interested in that also. The plan is to send mail through smtp.gmail.com using my gmail account, unless you have a better idea. I did this and that didn't work. In /etc/postfix/smtp_sasl_passwords I tried both:     smtp.yourisp.com username:password and     smtp.yourisp.com [email protected]:password The problem seems to be that google doesn't like me. I don't think my ISP is blocking it because Mail.app can send email through smtp.gmail.com just fine. $email is my gmail address. $ printf "Subject: TestMail" | sendmail -f $email $email $ tail /var/log/mail.log Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/master[8741]: daemon started -- version 2.5.5, configuration /etc/postfix Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/qmgr[8743]: CAACBFA905: from=<$email>, size=377, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/pickup[8742]: C2A68FA93A: uid=501 from=<$email> Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/cleanup[8744]: C2A68FA93A: message-id=<20101021233818.$mydomain> Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/qmgr[8743]: C2A68FA93A: from=<$email>, size=377, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8746]: initializing the client-side TLS engine Oct 21 19:38:18 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8748]: initializing the client-side TLS engine Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8746]: connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8748]: connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8746]: CAACBFA905: to=<$email>, relay=none, delay=1334, delays=1304/0.04/30/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out) Oct 21 19:38:49 Jays-MacBook-Pro postfix/smtp[8748]: C2A68FA93A: to=<$email>, relay=none, delay=30, delays=0.08/0.05/30/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to smtp.gmail.com[74.125.157.109]:25: Operation timed out) $ I also tried setting myhostname, mydomain, and myorigin in /etc/postfix/main.cf to $ nslookup myip (as displayed by http://www.whatismyip.com/) And still no luck.   • Is there an Outlook or Gmail plugin to manage multiple tasks in an email?

    - by Matthew Lock
I often get client emails containing 10 or more tasks written as text in the email. I know Outlook and Gmail let you turn an email into a single task, but this doesn't help too much when there are 10 tasks in that email. Are there any plugins for Outlook or Gmail that let put checkboxes into the email or something so I can check off each item as they are done? Ideally I'd like the checkboxes/to do items to be inside the email itself so I can see my progress by looking at the email, rather than just letting me copy text from the email into some other task list.

  • Cyrus: How Do I Configure saslauthd For Authentication?

    - by Nick
I'm trying to get Cyrus IMAP (v 2.2 on Ubuntu 9.04) setup and working, but I'm having a bit of trouble getting the login working correctly. I've created a mailbox for my test user "nrahl": cm user/nrahl and then created a password: $ saslpasswd2 nrahl I'm attempting to connect to the mailbox using Thunderbird. I'm using the machine's LAN IP address as the host, and "nrahl" as the username. It connects to the server and prompts me for the password. When I enter it, I get "Login to server failed." in Thunderbird, and /var/log/mail.log shows: Apr 15 19:20:01 IMAP cyrus/imap[1930]: accepted connection Apr 15 19:20:09 IMAP cyrus/imap[1930]: badlogin: [192.168.5.21] plaintext nrahl SASL(-13): authentication failure: checkpass failed Part of /etc/imapd.conf with comments removed: sieveusehomedir: false sievedir: /var/spool/sieve #mailnotifier: zephyr #sievenotifier: zephyr #dracinterval: 0 #drachost: localhost hashimapspool: true allowplaintext: yes sasl_mech_list: PLAIN #allowapop: no #sasl_maximum_layer: 256 #loginrealms: example.com #virtdomains: userid #defaultdomain: sasl_pwcheck_method: saslauthd #sasl_auxprop_plugin: sasldb sasl_auto_transition: no UPDATE: When setting: sasl_pwcheck_method: alwaystrue in /etc/imapd.conf, login works correctly. • Favicon on gmail has changed from the envelope to a black gun. How do i change it back and why did i

    - by Victoria
I think my gmail account might have been hacked because I've recently noticed a change in the favicon displayed in the url and the tab, when I logged onto my gmail account. It used to be the common red and white envelope and now it's a black gun. Can anyone tell if this is enough to conclude that my account has been hacked or tampered with? I know someone that would be capable and most probably willing to cause problems to my account among other things. This would be my opsessive ex who's best friend is a hacker. Can anyone help? I need to know if someone has reigns to my computer. And how do I change the favicon back to its orginial image? The black gun really bothers me. Thanks everyone!!!

  • Sendmail: external alias not receiving relayed mail under certain circumstances.

    - by ben
I have set up an alias in /etc/mail/aliases like this: user: [email protected] This relay DOES work when I telnet to example.com 25 and send mail to [email protected] (where example.com is my domain); it indeed turns up in [email protected] inbox. Also mail sent from my server at example.com is generally deliverable to this same email address, [email protected]. HOWEVER, the relay DOES NOT work when I send mail from [email protected] to [email protected], expecting it to be relayed back to [email protected]. The mail.log shows it being received and sent just fine, so I guess it is being blocked by gmail for some reason. Why though? As I said, gmail generally does except mail from this server.

  • How to 'move' mail from Inbox to custom mail folder? (Mac Mail client + Gmail account)

    - by user27779
I'm using Mail on Mac OS X with Gmail account. I can make a new mailbox folder, and mails can be dragged into there. But, the mails still remain in Inbox. It did not moved. It just copied. (well, it's 'label' feature of Gmail, I know.) This makes crazy. I can't separate mails for each purpose. Is there any way to make Mail application 'move' mails into my custom box (remove from Inbox)?

  • Is it possible to cause email to my domain to be handled by gmail?

    - by pitosalas
[This is a very narrow question, and I don't think it is covered in similar sounding questions] I want to configure my server's DNS so that when someone sends email to [email protected] it is actually deliver it to [email protected] Note: My question is whether this is possible to do ONLY with DNS not with myserver.com's own sendmail. I think the answer is "NO" it is not possible, because when I add an MX record to DNS the email that was delivered to gmail's SMPT server would be TO: [email protected] and it would not know that account. (But I hasten to add that I am just vaguely starting to grok how this all works.)

  • How to forward AIM to Gmail

    - by iamjames
Still have an old AIM email address lying around and would like to forward it to Gmail?  Here's how: 1.  Login to your AIM and click on Settings on the far right 2.  In the left menu click IMAP and POP  3.  This shows you your IMAP and POP setup information for AIM.  We're going to put this into your Gmail account so your Gmail account will check your AIM account and download all AIM emails. 4.  Login to your Gmail, click Settings and click Accounts and Import 5.  Click "Import mail and contacts".  A new window will pop up asking what account you want to import.  Enter your AIM Email Address and click Continue 6.  The next page asks for your password.  Enter your password and click Continue.  Step 2 asks your Import options.  I'd put a checkmark in "Leave a copy of retrieved message on server".  That way all your mail is still stored on AIM if you ever need it. 7.  Click Start import and you're done.  Next screen says it make take several hours up to 2 days before you start seeing imported messages and can check the status at Settings > Accounts and Import

  • Why won't Google Chrome open Google Docs, and why is it slow with GMail?

    - by Philip
OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard: Google Chrome works like a charm most of the time. I have many extensions installed, and I've tried disabling/re-enabling them one by one to find a culprit, with no luck. Here are the problems: (1) Chrome is slow to load GMail. I am fairly sure that clearing the cache alleviates this problem. But I can open Safari, type in the URL, and login to GMail in the time it sometimes takes Chrome to open the page. Shouldn't caching help the page load?!? And sometimes even after recent cache clears it still is slow to load..... Thoughts? (2) Chrome won't open Google Docs at all. Safari does. Again, I tried disabling extensions one-by-one, and I allow cookies and even third-party cookies. But I still am told it has a redirect loop. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• How can I filter then modify e-mails using IMAP?

    - by swolff1978
I have asked this question in a different post here on SO: How can a read receipt be suppressed? I have been doing some research of my own to try and solve this problem and accessing the e-mail account via IMAP seems like it is going to be a good solution. I have successfully been able to access my own Inbox and mark messages as read with no issue. I have been asked to preform the same task on an Inbox that contains over 23,000 emails. I would like to run the test on a small amount of e-mails from that inbox before letting the whole 23,000 get it. Here is the code I have been running via telnet: . LOGIN [email protected] password . SELECT Inbox . STORE 1:* flags \Seen 'this line marks all the e-mails as read So my question is how can i execute that store command on a specific group of e-mails... say emails that are going to / coming from a specific account? Is there a way to like concatenate the commands? like a FETCH then the STORE? Or is there a better way to go about getting a collection of e-mails based on certain criteria and then modifying ONLY those e-mails that can be accomplished through IMAP?
