  • Newly installed Ruby gems not showing up in $LOAD_PATH

    I'm using MacPorts in order to manage my Ruby/Rails/Gems installations. Recently after doing a gem install wirble, wirble fails to load when I start an instance of irb.   • How to setup prawn on heroku when installed as a git submodule

    I have a rails app that I am trying to deploy to heroku. This app generates pdfs using prawn. I installed prawn as a git submodule rather than as a gem as this is what is recommended on the prawn website (here). This has not worked well with heroku so far though. As stated on heroku's application constraints page submodules are not supported so I followed their instructions to track the submodule in the main project and tried again. This has not worked and when I access my application I get the following error: App failed to start An error happened during the initialization of your app. This may be due to a typo, wrong number of arguments, or calling a function that doesn’t exists. Check the stack trace below for specific details. Make sure the app is working locally in production mode, by running it with RAILS_ENV (for Rails apps) or RACK_ENV (for Sinatra or other rack apps) set to production. e.g. RAILS_ENV=production script/server. Original Error /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require': /disk1/home/slugs/208590_03c9c22_67f5/mnt/app/controllers/invoices_controller.rb:37: syntax error, unexpected ')' (SyntaxError) ).to_pdf(@invoice) (and then a whole lot more that I'll spare you from) The .to_pdf function described in the last line is called in a controller in exactly the way described in the prawn how-to that I linked to above so my interpretation of the error message is that prawn is not being installed/detected. Does anyone know how I can address this? I'm new to heroku so have little idea how to approach this. Is the submodule approach for prawn dead in the water from the get-go? Do I need to install it as a gem instead. I'd rather keep it as a submodule just because that works for now and I don't want to break it.

  • How to check the information of current installed video drivers on Ubuntu?

    Hi guys, I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04. My CPU usage is high when I do trivial things such as scrolling through a PDF file. So I think my video driver is not properly installed. I want to confirm that by checking the information of my currently installed video driver, such as if there's a driver installed and what version it is. Then I could decide whether to install a new one if it is not up to date. On Windows, I could use the device manager, how to do that on Ubuntu Linux? I don't expect a GUI solution for this. Command line will be just good enough. Many thanks.

  • Assembly installed into the GAC not showing up in Visual Studio

    This sounds related to this question, but they aren't the same thing. That question had no assemblies showing up. Mine has everything except the specific one I installed. I'm hoping someone has a solution to this... am I doing something wrong? Or did I find some bug in VS? I am using Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 on Windows 7 Ultimate. I just downloaded Rhino Mocks and decided to install it into the GAC using the command-line utility GACUTIL. I then rebooted.   • Can I have a .desktop Launcher for both Python2 and Python3 depending on version installed?

    After very few issues only I moved my application from Python2 to Python3 making sure it will still run with Python 2.7, and hence has python = 2.7 as dependency only. This was mainly done because Python3, and some dependencies are not installed in a default 12.04 LTS, and I do not want my users to have to install all Python3 only to run my script. When I create an appname.desktop launcher I now need to decide if it starts my application using Python2, or Python3 like EXEC=python /path/app.py EXEC=python3 /path/app.py But what I would like it to do is to Launch the application with the Python3 interpreter if Python3 is installed. Otherwise use Python2 if Python3 is not installed. How can this be done? Do I need to tell it in my package installation script, or can I have a launcher which can handle both (in case people install Python3 after they had installed my script)?

    I'm trying to create a Celery worker node on an Amazon EC2 Windows2008 R2 instance. Due to a plugin we require for another Python module, we are required to user Python3. I've installed Python3.2 and necessary modules and run Celery, but for some reason it states that it can't import Exchange and Queue from Kombu, despite the face that Kombu is installed and can be imported by python.   • How do I remove the FGLRX drivers after I've installed them by hand?

    I installed ati-driver-installer-11-9-x86.x86_64.run downloaded from the ATI Website. However I installed the generic version instead of building a distribution specific installer. Now I have the gnome-shell graphic glitches that are associated with having the old Fglrx drivers installed. How can I remove these drivers? They do not show up in the additional drivers dialog, and I cannot install any other drivers till these are removed.

    I have a HP Envy 4 1025tx with Hybrid graphics. Although this is a 64bit system, I've installed 32bit Ubuntu on it for some reasons.(Hybrid graphics don't do well with 64bit Ubuntu.-"Some one on some forum") I had heating problems with the GPU but I've fixed them all with vgaswitcheroo. But now I wanted to use my Blender on my Ubuntu. To my surprise Blender didn't detect the dedicated 7670m card in my machine. I've confirmed with cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch Both IGD and DIS were up and running. I dont seem to have libopencl on my /usr/lib even though my synaptic manager says that I have installed it. I'm not quite sure what I've installed. It says that I've installed "ocl-icd-libopencl1". So my question is... Do I have opencl on my system? If not do I have to get propreitary ATI drivers for sake of opencl(fglrx wrecks up my unity totally on my system I need directions to fix it if this is the choice)? Should I get a 64bit Ubuntu installed on this system?

    I have a MBP with osx mountain lion installed, and I believe from what I read Mac's only ship with Java 6 by default. I'm not at my computer at the moment, but I am pretty sure I have installed Java 7 but it isn't my default java version (I think I installed it and I have to explicitly reference it to use it).   • Problems installing a package from PyPI: root files not installed

    After installing the BitTorrent-bencode package, either via easy_install BitTorrent-bencode or pip install BitTorrent-bencode, or by downloading the tarball and installing that via easy_install $tarball, I discover that /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/BitTorrent_bencode-5.0.8-py2.6.egg/ contains EGG-INFO/ and test/ directories. Although both of these subdirectories contain files, there are no files in the BitTorr* directory itself. The tarball does contain bencode.py, which is meant to be the actual source for this package, but it's not installed by either of those utils. I'm pretty new to all of this so I'm not sure if this is a problem with the package or with what I'm doing. The package was packaged a while ago (2007), so perhaps it's using some deprecated configuration aspect that I need to supply a command-line flag for. I'm more interested in learning what's wrong with either the package or my procedures than in getting this particular package installed; there is another package called hunnyb that seems to do a decent enough job of decoding bencoded data. Mostly I'd like to know how to deal with such problems in other packages.

  • "This program might not have installed correctly" message in Windows 7 RC

    I have an installer that works perfectly under NT 5.x, Vista, and Windows 7. It contains the proper manifest for UAC on NT 6.x. But starting with Windows 7 RC, every time the setup program closes, Windows produces an erroneous "This program might not have installed correctly" message, even though the program did install correctly with no problems whatsoever. I never got these spurious messages in Vista or in Windows 7 beta. I sent a bug report to Microsoft, but have not heard back. I thought that this might just be a glitch in the Windows 7 RC, but the problem is still there on a fresh install of one of the very recent RTM-escrow builds that was leaked. Microsoft has no documentation whatsoever about this--not even a hint to what might possibly be triggering it. Even more frustrating is that I get this "This program might not have installed correctly" message even if I cancel the install on the very first are-you-sure-you-want-to-proceed screen before any of the installation code (creating a temp dir, extracting files, copying, registry, etc.) is ever run. Has anyone figured this one out?

    I am working on a web project that uses MVC2. I decided to try out RazorEngine to do some e-mail templating. This appeared to work fine when I was protyping using an MVC2 project so I assumed that RazorEngine will work fine for my e-mail templating solution. What I had forgotten at the time was that I actually had MVC3 installed on my local development machine. The only difference I can think of between the deployment server and my local dev machine is that the deployment server does not have MVC3 installed but I may be mistaken because the deployment server is not something I normally control and as such I don't have a lot of information about it. It is meant to host this particular application so there have been previous deployments of this application to this server. This is the first time I'm making a deployment with RazorEngine as a dependency.
