• How to Print reports in Silvelright 4

  I am wondering if there is anything built in to Silverlight, or possibly c# to allow for printing reports? I'd be happy with any number of methods: exporting files to a pdf format and printing from there, exporting as a text document of some sort and printing from there, or just simply showing the print dialog from the web application itself. I know there are ways to do this in C#, but the c# code-behind is different for many things in Silverlight applications and I can't seem to find anything that will work. So if anyone has any ideas on things I could try it would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

• How do I get a network printer installed in ubuntu 9.04?

  My girlfriend's work computer now has Linux on one of the partitions, and for the most part it's running fine--except that I can't seem to get the network printers configured right. There are two of them: a Lanier MP 7500/LD275 and a Lanier MP C3000/LD430c, and Linux seems to have found them both automatically. I'll go through the steps of what I did, and what exactly went wrong. I went to Administration Printing, and clicked the new printer button. It searched for printers and found them both, listed under "Network Printers." I added them as new printers in succession. However, when I clicked "Print a Test Page," it failed saying there was a broken pipe. The device URIs were saved as socket://[ip address]:9100. I changed these to lpd://[ip address] per some online tutorial, which at first looked like it might have worked (but didn't). Then when I tried to print a test page, it first said Processing (and sometimes even Processing - printing test page, 4%, but always subsequently displays Idle - /usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed. Help! What do I do? It seems like Linux can find these printers just fine, and the drivers seem to be in place, so what's going wrong?

• Windows Server 2012 Can't Print

  I know this may sound incredibly stupid and there is probably an easy solution but I can't seem to find it. Friends of mine recently upgraded their server for their small business from the POS old one. New hardware and a change from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012. I've got everything they need transfered over and running except for printing. They need to be able to print to printers in the vans their technicians use from the server via remote desktop. In other words the use a laptop to remote desktop into the server and need to print invoices out from the remote server to printers attached locally via usb. On the old server they just installed the identical driver and that was it, they could print as needed. On this server no matter what we seem to do we can't get it to print remotely, and in the process we also discovered that the server can't even print to the network printer. It sees the printer on it's network and it sees (through redirect) the printers in the vans but when you hit print it claims it did and nothing happens. There isn't an issue with the printers themselves as every other device we have can print to them without issues. Is there some setting that is inhibiting the server from printing? Is there something I need to install (print server?) to add the functionality? Thanks in advance for helping me out here

• What LPR arguments do I need to print a 1400x800 pixel image on a 4x6 label?

  This is driving me nuts. UPS sends our system a 1400x800 GIF image of a shipping label, which is supposed to fit nicely on a 4x6 page. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the command line options right to make it happen. We're using an Eltron/Zebra 2844 with a network adapter, and printing from our Ubuntu 8.04 server using CUPS. We're using the correct drivers, and test pages print correctly. No matter what I try though, it insists on printing the UPS labels accross 6 pages, with a little bit of the label on each page, or way too small. I've tried a bazillion different lpr settings, most of them producing garbage. The closest I've gotten is this: lpr -P Eltron2844 -o natural-scaling=55 -o page-right=0 -o page-left=0 -o landscape -o media="4x6" ./1ZY437560399620027.gif but it causes the image to be too small on the page. It's about an inch too short, and there's a 1/2" margin on both sides. If I bump the scale up to 56, it explodes the image onto two pages, and squashes it. Any ideas?

  I've seen laser printers with a resolutions of 1200x1200 dpi and, strangely, 2400x600 dpi. As the measure is dots per inch, not Kdots on a page or something (where a higher vertical resolution might make sense because paper is rectangular, not square), I'm wondering what the uneven resolution is good for. Why print one square inch with 2400 dots vertically but only 600 horizontally? Does this look more detailed than 1200 by 1200 dots? Or is it better for textile printing or some other special case?

Is there anyway to do this? System.Drawing.Printing and System.Printing seem like good candidates but they don't seem to be useful for PDFs (i may be wrong). The Adobe sdk doesn't at first glance seem to have that level of granularity either.

HP Deskjet F2235 - designated scanner (has printing issues) Brother HL-2040 - designated printer (doesn't have a scanner) Just by using those two both connected to the same computer, is there a way to perform a photocopy operation by scanning via the designated scanner then immediately it being printed from the designated printer? • Ruby on Rails script/console printing more than expected

  I have a simple model setup in my Ruby on Rails app. (User {name, username, lat, lon}) and am writing a basic extension to the model. I would like the method to return users within a certain distance. It all works just fine in the page view, but as I am debugging I would like to work through some testing using the script/console. My question: It seems to be printing to the screen the entire result set when I run it from the command line and script/console. I've heard that binary files (.dat) are smaller than .txt files. I have %.16Le up in my code but I think that %.15Le is right as I have 15 precision digits with long double. I have put a dot (.) in the width position as I believe that this allows expansion to an arbitrary field to hold the desired number. Am I right? As an example with %.16Le, I can have an output like 1.0047914240730432e-002 which gives me 16 precision digits and the width of the field has the right width to display the number correctly. Is placing a dot (.) in the width position instead of a width value a good practice? Thanks a lot...

• .NET Graphics.ScaleTransform converts print job to bitmap. Any other way to scale text?

  I'm using Graphics.ScaleTransform to stretch lines of text so they fit the width of the page, and then printing that page. However, this converts the print job to a bitmap - for a print with many pages this causes the size of the print job to rise to obscene proportions, and slows down printing immensely. If I don't scale like this, the print job remains very small as it is just sending text print commands to the printer. My question is, is there any way other than using Graphics.ScaleTransform to stretch the width of the text? • Converting Source ASCII Files to JPEGs

  I publish technical books, in print, PDF, and Kindle/MOBI, with EPUB on the way. The Kindle does not support monospace fonts, which are kinda useful for source code listings. The only way to do monospace fonts is to convert the text (Java source, HTML, XML, etc.) into JPEG images. More specifically, due to pagination issues, a given input ASCII file needs to be split into slices of ~6 lines each, with each slice turned into a JPEG, so listings can span a screen. This is a royal pain. My current mechanism to do that involves: Running expand to set a consistent 2-space tab size, which pipes to... a2ps, which pipes to... A small Perl snippet to add a "%%LanguageLevel: 3\n" line, which pipes to... ImageMagick's convert, to take the (E)PS and make a JPEG out it, with an appropriate background, cropped to 575x148+5+28, etc. That used to work 100% of the time. It now works 95% of the time. The rest of the time, I get convert: geometry does not contain image errors, which I cannot seem to get rid of, in part because I don't understand what the problem is. Before this process, I used to use a pretty-print engine (source-highlight) to get HTML out of the source code...but then the only thing I could find to convert the HTML into JPEGs was to automate screen-grabs from an embedded Gecko engine. Reliability stank, which is why I switched to my current mechanism. So, if you were you, and you needed to turn source listings into JPEG images, in an automated fashion, how would you do it? Bonus points if it offers some sort of pretty-print process (e.g., bolded keywords)! Or, if you know what typically causes convert: geometry does not contain image, that might help. My current process is ugly, but if I could get it back to 100% reliability, that'd be just fine for now. Thanks in advance!

• Perl - Reading .txt files line-by-line and using compare function (printing non-matches only once)

  I am really struggling and have spent about two full days on this banging my head against receiving the same result every time I run this perl script. I have a Perl script that connects to a vendor tool and stores data for ~26 different elements within @data. There is a foreach loop for @data that breaks the 26 elements into $e-{'element1'), $e-{'element2'), $e-{'element3'), $e-{'element4'), etc. etc. etc. I am also reading from the .txt files within a directory (line-by-line) and comparing the server names that exist within the text files with what exists in $e-{'element4'}. The Problem: Matches are working perfectly and only printing one line for each of the 26 elements when there is a match, however non-matches are producing one line for every entry within the .txt files (37 in all). So if there are 100 entries (each entry having 26 elements) stored within @data, then there are 100 x 37 entries being printed. So for every non-match in the: if ($e-{'element4'} eq '6' && $_ =~ /$e-{element7}/i) statement below, I am receiving a print out saying that there is not a match. 37 entries for the same identical 26 elements (because there are 37 total entries in all of the .txt files). The Goal: I need to print out only 1 line for each unique entry (a unique entry being $e-{element1} thru $e-{element26}). It is already printing one 1 line for matches, but it is printing out 37 entries when there is not a match. I need to treat matches and non-matches differently. • Splwow64 with TS Easy Print

  I have an application (Sage MIP Fund Accounting) which exports data to Excel. In this process it uses an internal print driver. Since we upgraded from 2008 to 2008 R2 this export process causes system hangs. This has been isolated down to the splwow64 executable hanging while the Excel document is building. If I kill the spwow64 executable things function properly (I just can't print it once completed). This only occurs while using printer redirection using the Remote Desktop Easy Print function - if I pull the printer redirection things work exactly as expected. I've spent the last couple hours looking at hotfixes or driver upgrades since this appears to be a problem specifically with how the Remote Desktop Easy Printer printer is functioning. Is anyone aware of a hotfix which would be applicable in this situation? I don't want to grab every hotfix for redirected printing and start throwing them out there.
