  • Converting to Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.5

    The process of converting from Visual Studio .NET 2003 to Visual Studio 2008 is satisfyingly start forward. I thought it would be worth asking a couple of questions though: 1) Are there any 'gotchas' with this conversion process that we should be aware of? 2) Same question goes for upgrading the .NET Framework from 1.1 to 3.5?   • Is there a work around for slow performance of do.call(cbind.xts,...) in R 2.15.2?

    I would expect cbind.xts and do.call(cbind.xts) to perform with similar elapsed time. That was true for R2.11, R2.14. For R2.15.2 and xts 0.8-8, the do.call(cbind.xts,...) variant performs drastically slower, which effectively breaks my previous codes. As Josh Ulrich notes in a comment below, the xts package maintainers are aware of this problem. In the meantime, is there a convenient work around?

  • vagrant box add: where does .box file get downloaded to?

    What actually happens to the .box file (which according to the docs is simply a vbox image in tar form, in a particular format) after the first command vagrant box add lucid32 http://files.vagrantup.com/lucid32.box is executed? I can't seem to find the filesystem location of lucid32.box after the download has successfully completed... I am aware it doesn't really matter as vagrant init lucid32 vagrant up vagrant ssh will get me into the vm irregardless. But I am curious where .box is located.

  • Mdi Children Changed in .Net

    Hi Is there a simple way of tracking the change of an Mdi's children i.e. when they are created and closed, something like an event OnMdiChildListChanged (I realise this doesn't actually exist). I am also aware that I could have a method within my Mdi that handles the creation of child forms and logs the state of them or even create an Interface that defines that a child form has a "NotifyParent" method that is then called on close of the form, but i was wondering if there was any built in events that i could plumb into? Thanks

  • How to add separator between items in a Spark List control

    I have a s:List where I've defined my own itemRenderer, and would like to insert a horizontal line separating items, similar to the way the mx:LinkBar works. I don't want to have a line at the top or bottom of the list, so I can't just include an upper or lower border in the itemRenderer. I was hoping the itemRenderer could be made aware of its index in the list, but I don't see how. Is there a way to do this?

    Hello, if I explicitly attempt to list the contents of a shared directory on a remote host using python on a windows machine, the operation succeeds, for example, the following snippet works fine: os.listdir("\\\\remotehost\\share") However, if I attempt to list the network drives/directories available on the remote host, python fails, an example of which is shown in the following code snippet: os.listdir("\\\\remotehost") Is anyone aware of why this doesn't work?, any help/workaround is appreciated.

    As a result of a conversation with a colleague today, I've been searching (unsuccessfully) for a large'ish list of what technology stacks are being used popular websites and standalone applications today. We're aware of the big ones like Facebook (php/ ), Twitter (scala/cassandra), Youtube (python/?), Digg (php/cassandra), stackoverflow (.net mvc/sqlserver), but we're looking for a more complete list. I generally use CType (and CInt, CBool, CStr) for casts because it is less characters and was the first way of casting which I was exposed to, but I am aware of DirectCast and TryCast as well. Simply, are there any differences (effect of cast, performance, etc.) between DirectCast and CType? I understand the idea of TryCast.

I have an application which loads a physicial XML document via the following method: jQuery.ajax( { type: "GET", url: fileName, dataType: "xml", success: function(data) { etc... I parse the XML and convert it into a string which is saved into a variable so that it can easily be stored in a database. How can I now convert the data in this variable back into an XML object so that it can be parsed as such?

I used subrepos to manage the dependencies between repositories. The problem is that pull is not suprepo aware so I have to go into each subrepo and pull changes in order to update a repository.   • Best Practices for Working with Multiple Monitors in Visual Studio 2010

    Now that Visual Studio 2010 has support for multiple monitors, I am curious how other people have their environments arranged. I have yet to come up with an arrangement that I am really satisfied with. The current best I have come up with for my 2 monitor system is to have all code windows detached. Then, on my primary monitor, I am able to have two code windows side by side (using the Windows 7 keyboard shortcuts WinKey+LeftArrow and WinKey+RightArrow.) On my secondary monitor I put the rest of the IDE with all of the tool windows that are normally on the bottom (errors list, find window, call stack, etc...) docked where the code windows normally go. I've also tried having all those things detached and having almost nothing in the IDE proper. The problems with this layout are: Newly opened code windows always open in the IDE, not on top of one of the detached windows. Detached code windows do not remember their exact placement from session to session (they are slightly off, having me to use the winkey + arrow key shortcut again and again for each window. There seems to be no way to have the code panes aware that they are on top of one another (IE -- multiple tabs.) The CTRL+TAB shortcut always displays on top of the IDE proper. The Code Panes are always "on top" of (children of) the IDE. So clicking on any code pane brings the IDE to the foreground, even when I care only about that code pane, and not the IDE. Other more minor issues... What would go a long way to making this better is having the code panes detach such that they are tab strips that can have other code panes docked within them. The new multi-monitor support in VS2010 is good, but it still seems really lacking. Can these issues be solved with an add-in? If so, is anyone aware of one? Is there a better way to work with the IDE on multiple monitors than what I am doing? NOTE: While this question is subjective (there is certainly no "this is the best way and that's final" answer) I'd really like to know possibly better methods of working with the IDE than what I have come up with. The intent is not to start a "mine's best" flame war.
