    Hello, if I explicitly attempt to list the contents of a shared directory on a remote host using python on a windows machine, the operation succeeds, for example, the following snippet works fine: os.listdir("\\\\remotehost\\share") However, if I attempt to list the network drives/directories available on the remote host, python fails, an example of which is shown in the following code snippet: os.listdir("\\\\remotehost") Is anyone aware of why this doesn't work?, any help/workaround is appreciated.

  • Is there a work around for slow performance of do.call(cbind.xts,...) in R 2.15.2?

    I would expect cbind.xts and do.call(cbind.xts) to perform with similar elapsed time. That was true for R2.11, R2.14. For R2.15.2 and xts 0.8-8, the do.call(cbind.xts,...) variant performs drastically slower, which effectively breaks my previous codes. As Josh Ulrich notes in a comment below, the xts package maintainers are aware of this problem. In the meantime, is there a convenient work around?

I thought it would be worth asking a couple of questions though: 1) Are there any 'gotchas' with this conversion process that we should be aware of? 2) Same question goes for upgrading the .NET Framework from 1.1 to 3.5?     I am aware of: SELECT @@ERROR but it will give me only an ERROR CODE (a number) and I need a full text message like: Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.TABLE_NAME' with unique index 'IX_ID_unique'. The statement has been terminated. How can I do that in MS Sql Server 2005 ?

  • vagrant box add: where does .box file get downloaded to?

    What actually happens to the .box file (which according to the docs is simply a vbox image in tar form, in a particular format) after the first command vagrant box add lucid32 http://files.vagrantup.com/lucid32.box is executed? I can't seem to find the filesystem location of lucid32.box after the download has successfully completed... I am aware it doesn't really matter as vagrant init lucid32 vagrant up vagrant ssh will get me into the vm irregardless. But I am curious where .box is located.

    Hi Is there a simple way of tracking the change of an Mdi's children i.e. when they are created and closed, something like an event OnMdiChildListChanged (I realise this doesn't actually exist). I am also aware that I could have a method within my Mdi that handles the creation of child forms and logs the state of them or even create an Interface that defines that a child form has a "NotifyParent" method that is then called on close of the form, but i was wondering if there was any built in events that i could plumb into?   • How to add separator between items in a Spark List control

    I have a s:List where I've defined my own itemRenderer, and would like to insert a horizontal line separating items, similar to the way the mx:LinkBar works. I don't want to have a line at the top or bottom of the list, so I can't just include an upper or lower border in the itemRenderer. I was hoping the itemRenderer could be made aware of its index in the list, but I don't see how. Is there a way to do this?

I generally use CType (and CInt, CBool, CStr) for casts because it is less characters and was the first way of casting which I was exposed to, but I am aware of DirectCast and TryCast as well. Simply, are there any differences (effect of cast, performance, etc.) between DirectCast and CType? I understand the idea of TryCast.

    As a result of a conversation with a colleague today, I've been searching (unsuccessfully) for a large'ish list of what technology stacks are being used popular websites and standalone applications today. We're aware of the big ones like Facebook (php/ ), Twitter (scala/cassandra), Youtube (python/?), Digg (php/cassandra), stackoverflow (.net mvc/sqlserver), but we're looking for a more complete list. It would also be interesting to hear about any stats for desktop apps also? Can anyone help?

I have an application which loads a physicial XML document via the following method: jQuery.ajax( { type: "GET", url: fileName, dataType: "xml", success: function(data) { etc... I parse the XML and convert it into a string which is saved into a variable so that it can easily be stored in a database. How can I now convert the data in this variable back into an XML object so that it can be parsed as such?

    I'm looking for a simple way to forget that I'm using a WebView to have justified text in my TextView. Has someone made a custom view for this? I'm well aware that I can do something like this: WebView view = new WebView(this); view.loadData("my html with text justification","text/html","utf-8"); But it gets ugly when you want to set the size, the color or other common properties of the TextView, there must be a more convenient way of doing it.
