  • Out-Of-Memory while doing Core Data migration

    - by Kamchatka
Hello, I'm migrating a CoreData model between two versions of an application. I was storing binary data as blobs in the previous version and I want to take them out of the blobs for performance. My issue is that during the migration it seems that Core Data loads everything into memory which leads to Low Memory Warnings and then to my app being killed. Apple documentation suggests the following : http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/CoreDataVersioning/Articles/vmCustomizingTheProcess.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40005510-SW9 However, it seems to rely on the fact that the large objects are applied different mapping. In my case, all the objects are basically the same and the same mapping has to be applied to each of them. I don't see in this case how I could apply their technique. How should I handle a migration with very large objects ?

  • Playing audio from a wav file in iPhone SpeakHere example

    - by Mo
I'm working with the iPhone SpeakHere example, and I would like to be able to play audio from either the mic (as in the example) or from a wav file. I have working code to play from a particular wav file, which looks like this: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"basketBall" ofType:@"wav"]; AVAudioPlayer* theAudio=[[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:path] error:NULL]; theAudio.delegate = self; [theAudio play]; So I'm fine with actually getting the wav to play in the application (I can hook it up to a button, etc.) but I would like it to also behave the same way pushing the "Play" button does after recorded speech, in that it should be connected to the same visualization (which I have modified quite a bit, but essentially shows the current volume, among other things). Thanks for your help!

  • Android Set ImageButton as Toggle

    - by GuyNoir
How can I have an imagebutton stay in the 'pressed' state when it is clicked? Basically I just want the background to be the depressed background, but I can't figure out how to set it. At the moment, I've just copied the selected button background into my res folder, but when I set it as the background, it becomes blurry (since the original image is bigger than the button itself). Normal Background: What I'm getting:

  • Prevent an Activity from being killed by the OS while starting a child activity

    - by Martin Marinov
I have a main activity which calls a child one via Intent I = new Intent(this, Child.class); startActivityForResult(I, 0); But as soon as Child becomes visible the main activity gets its onStop and immediately after that onDestroy method triggered. And as soon as I call finish() within the Child activity or press the back button, the Child activity closes and the home screen shows (instead of the main activity). How can I prevent the main activity from being destroyed? :\

  • Android WVGA800 and 854

    - by Droidy
Although my relativelayout looks very similar on WVGA800 and WVGA854 on the emulator, theres different spacing on some of the objects because I'm going off of marginleft or marginright. Since the 854 is a greater width, its pushing some objects differently. Is there any way I could target either one to adjust for the different margins?

  • MPMediaPickerController, MPMediaItems, and NSData

    - by ckrames1234
I was wondering if Apple allowed you to access the MPMediaItem's raw data as an NSData object. If you can, thats great and I would like to know how. If you cannot, then Apple is way too over-protective, and my app that i started is utterly useless. Also if you cannot, Is there any hacky workarounds? I don't care if Apple doesn't accept my app as it would still be cool if me and my friends all had it. Thanks, Conrad

  • How can I present a modal view controller after selecting a contact?

    - by barfoon
Hey everyone, I'm trying to present a modal view controller after selecting a contact and it doesnt seem to be working. In my - (BOOL)peoplePickerNavigationController:(ABPeoplePickerNavigationController *)peoplePicker shouldContinueAfterSelectingPerson:(ABRecordRef)person method, I dismiss peoplePicker, create an instance of my new view controller, then present it with [self.navigationController presentModalViewController:newController animated:YES]; and it doesnt work. However if i PUSH the view controller it works with this code: [self.navigationController pushViewController:newController animated:YES]; How can I accomplish this? Thank you,

  • Why didn't Apple initially implement copy and paste in the iPhone?

    - by Howiecamp
Why didn't Apple implement copy and paste prior to iPhone OS 3.0? The answers I don't think are correct (but I could certainly be wrong) are: They couldn't figure out how to do it and provide a good user experience Some crazy multi-tasking or battery limitation iPhone users didn't want or need it (this was Microsoft's argument and is totally specious) Thoughts?

  • webOS style view switching on iPhone app

    - by Taylor Satula
Hello, I have been working with a iPhone app that I would like to have switch views like the Palm Pre does for multitasking. I know the usual way of switching views by using the black bar at the bottom of the app but the app I am working on does not lend itself to having a big black bar in the way (see attached picture #1). I guess my question is, how do I shrink the current view (Current Location window) and show other views on the sides? (see attached picture #2) Then be able to swipe left and right to view other views. I have no idea how to do this and would be eternally grateful if someone could help me out with this. http://www.threepixeldrift.com/images/deep-storage/webOScardapp1.jpg http://www.threepixeldrift.com/images/deep-storage/webOScardapp2.jpg

  • How to use SMS content provider? Where are the docs?

    - by Mark
Hi, I'd like to be able to read the system's SMS content provider. Basically I wanted to make an SMS messaging app, but it would only be useful if I could see past threads etc. It seems like there's a content provider for this, but I can't find documentation for it - anyone know where that is? Thanks -------- edit ----------- Ok I found a way to get the sms inbox provider, and I just dumped all the column names in that provider, looks like this: Uri uriSms = Uri.parse("content://sms/inbox"); Cursor c = context.getContentResolver().query(uriSms, null, null, null, null); // column names for above provider: 0: _id 1: thread_id 2: address 3: person 4: date 5: protocol 6: read 7: status 8: type 9: reply_path_present 10: subject 11: body 12: service_center 13: locked I'm just piecing this together from random threads I find around the net, I'm really wondering where this is all documented (if at all)? Thanks again

  • Server-side technology for a game

    - by Soonts
We’re creating a massively-multiplayer social game. We expect up to 1 million concurrent users. The game is not real-time, instead it’s turn-based. We need reliable messaging between our clients and the server, preferably over HTTP protocol. Besides the multiplayer functionality, we’ll also need a content delivery service. Could you please recommend a server-side technology for us, so we’ll start searching for the right people to hire? Is it correct assumption that no single server will hold that amount of load so it must scale horizontally? Will Windows Azure do the job? Thanks in advance.

  • When my UIViewController accesses an NSArray in my AppDelegate from an IBAction it crashes the progr

    - by JasonClark
I have a couple UIViewControllers that I am trying to access an array inside my AppDelegate. When I use an IBAction UIButton and in that method I access my AppDelegate my program dies silently. Nothing in output or the debugger, it just stops. If I run it several times I can see that it is failing to access the array properly. To investigate this problem I created a very basic app. In my AppDelegate.h I declared and set properties for the array #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @class MyViewController; @interface MyAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; MyViewController *viewController; NSArray *images; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray *images; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet MyViewController *viewController;` In the AppDelegate.m I synthesised and initialized the NSArray (Also made sure the images were added to the Resources folder). @synthesize images; - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { images = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"bamboo_nw" ofType:@"jpg"], ..... nil]; NSLog(@"init images size:%i",[images count]); [window addSubview:viewController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } In my UIViewController.h I added class, imported header file, declared, and set properties for my AppDelegate pointer. #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "MyAppDelegate.h" @class MyAppDelegate; @interface MyViewController : UIViewController { MyAppDelegate *mainDelegate; IBOutlet UIButton mybutton; } @property (nonatomic, retain) MyAppDelegate mainDelegate; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIButton *mybutton; -(IBAction) doSomething;` In my UIViewController.m I synthesize and assign my AppDelegate. I set up an IBAction that will log the same count of the NSArray from the AppDelegate. #import "MyViewController.h" #import "MyAppDelegate.h" @implementation MyViewController @synthesize mybutton; - (void)viewDidLoad { mainDelegate = (MyAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSLog(@"vdl images size:%i",[mainDelegate.images count]); [super viewDidLoad]; } -(IBAction) doSomething { NSLog(@"ds images size:%i",[mainDelegate.images count]); } I print the size of the NSArray in the AppDelegate when I create it, in the ViewController when I first assign my AppDelegate pointer, and then as a result of my IBAction. I find that everytime I hit the button the program dies. On the third time I hit the button, I saw that it ran my IBAction but printed my array size as 1 instead of 8. Am I missing something? Also, why don't I get stack traces or anything, the debugger just dies silently? Thanks in advance for any help! • Does OpenGL ES support environment shaders?

    - by Soviut
I want to make metallic 3d object that appears to be reflective. I want to accomplish this using an environment shader that uses either a sphere or cube map that I can assign an image or texture as the "reflection" source. Does OpenGL ES on the iPhone support this in any versions?

  • Core Data and Relationships

    - by alku83
I have two objects, a Trip and a Place. A Trip represents a journey from one Place to another Place, ie. a Trip needs a fromPlace and a toPlace. So, this is a 1-to-2 relationship, but I need to know which is the "from" and which is the "to". I am not sure how to model this in Core Data. I have created two entities (Trip, Place), and now I want to setup the relationship(s) so I have a fromPlace and a toPlace. Do I need to add an extra field on the Place entity called isFrom, or similar? If this was in a database, I would just have a id column on the Place table, and then two columns in the Trip table - fromPlaceId and toPlaceId. How do I achieve something similar in Core Data?
