  • Configuring capture card to get audio out to the speakers

    I have been using my capture card as a video in device so I can play my video game systems without having to go to the TV in another room. I have been trying to get the audio to play through line-in, to no avail. Would there be a way to make the audio from line-in to output the video game console audio from the computer? Also, I'm on Windows XP SP2.

  • Where does ubuntu store keyboard shortcut settings?

    I'm having trouble setting a keyboard shortcut in Ubuntu. Trying to use the win (super) key as a modifier, but as soon as I press the win key the keyboard shortcut UI just assumes I wanted to use just that key. I figure the easiest thing would be to modify the settings file itself, where I should be able to put in whatever I want. But I can't figure out where that's stored. Does anyone know?

    We are having trouble adding our batch scripts to the new Windows 7 taskar. Our batchfiles take some arguments and just execute other application based on those arguments . To keep it simple, we created some shortcuts for our customers which they just need to click in order to get everything running. The question here is: How can we pin those shortcuts or batch files to the taskbar? (The customers aren't supposed to access the file system and that's why they can only see the taskbar)

    Given a data sample like Prisoner 24601 0.50 Day 1 80 90 Day 2 81 89 Day 3 82 90 Day 4 81 91 What's the easiest way to tell Excel that 24601 and 0.50 are data series names rather than Y axis values when creating a line chart? Approaches I'm aware of: Turn Prisoner numbers into text by having ="24601" and ="0.50" Only select rows 2 onwards as data, and then add in the labels once the graph has been created? Approaches that don't appear to work: Ask Excel to format the first row's numbers as text.

    On Youtube.com the flash applet seems to suck the input focus. Shortcuts like CTRL+T or ALT don't seem to work. How can you make a new window without having to touch the mouse (keyboard only) when on youtube.com or other sites that have a flash app that traps keystrokes?

  • Is it possible to trick iTunes treating an external HD as an iPod?

    I keep my music collection on my iPod, but since I got my first iPhone two and a half years ago I have quit using the iPod as a portable music device. It's just an external HD. Benefit of having it as an external HD is that when it's connected to some other computer iTunes can play its music and update iTunes database. It would be nice if I could copy data from the iPod to an external USB HD and give away the iPod to somebody who doesn't have one.

    When working from Windows, I prefer to use RoyalTS instead of the default Microsoft RDP client, because it allows me to save multiple connections, the credentials of the connection, etc; as well has having more than 1 connection open at a time. Is there a similar (or any) alternative to the Microsoft RDP client for connecting from OSX to Windows? Aside from VNC, that is; at this point I'm hoping to continue using the RDP protocol.

For instance, from reading a couple technet articles I've learned that I can run the following: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group=”File and Printer Sharing” new enable=Yes The bit about 'group="File and Printer Sharing"' is the part I'm having trouble finding documentation for.     For a frequent task, I need a file manager window open with about 8 tabs, each a different location. I'd like to be able to open the tabs once and then save them as a "tab set", so that in future sessions, I can simply open a file manager and restore the saved tab set, without having to open each tab manually. I'm running Mint 16 with Thunar, but could use a different file manager if needed. Is there a way to do this?

    There are some badly implemented programs like iTunes that are very... difficult to close, and interpret a close command (alt-f4 or clicking the 'x') as "minimize". Is there any setting I can change so that when I close a program it forces it to close, without having to go through the trouble of opening the task manager, find the program, kill it or clicking "close/quit" in 1000 different places hoping that one will do the trick?

    As I understand, the Android phone can only sync with Google (GMail, Google Calendar, etc.) out of the box. I can imagine corporate users having a problem with their data residing on Google's servers — despite their "do no evil" credo. Is there any Android application that lets you sync with the desktop (either Linux or Windows) or corporate server applications (think Exchange)?

I noticed that my HDD is already having 13.51 GB partition which is labelled as "Recovery Partition" (not visible in My Computer but visible in Computer management tool in control panel). Now I'm trying to look into these archive files, using restore -i -A <archive>` However, this insists on asking what tape to use, and complains if I say none. What am I doing incorrectly? I was hoping that I can use these archive index files without having to insert the tape to use.

    Vim shows non-printable characters prefixed with a ^ (for instance ^@ for a NUL byte). I have a column based file containing both printable and non-printable characters which is difficult to read, since each non-printable character shifts all remaining columns one character to the right. Is there a way to hide non-printable characters or simply display a placeholder char instead? I also don't mind having every character be represented by two characters.
