  I have 2 entities, Task and List. Each task has a to-one relationship to a List object called "list", and there is an inverse relationship with List, which has a to-many relationship with Task called "tasks". I'm trying to use a fetch request with an NSPredicate to get all the Task objects that belong to a specified List: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"list=%@", theList]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:predicate]; (where "theParent" is a reference to a List object). However this returns no fetched objects. If I take out the predicate, then the objects are returned (so I do know they exist, and by NSLogging theList I know it has Task objects associated with it). • Stubbing ActiveRecord result arrays

  Using Ruby 1.8.6, stubbing a finder method to return an Array does not work when the code under test calls the 'count' method on the result: User.any_instance.stubs(:friends).returns([user1, user2]) That's because Array.count has only been added in Ruby 1.8.7. Rails also adds a count method dynamically, I believe through the ActiveRecord::Calculations module. Is there any way to turn this result array into something that behaves exactly as the special Array kind returned by a Rails finder method? When paginating results, it's easy: I can simply call [].paginate. But that doesn't work with normal finder results. I tried [].extend(ActiveRecord::Calculations) but that doesn't work either.

• Mibble MIB Parser - extracting comments from the mib.

  I am using the Mibble MIB Parser to extract all simple data types from an MIB file. I've been successful until my attempt to extract comment text. Take the following module as an example: invBookList OBJECT-TYPE SYNTAX INTEGER { mobydick(1), -- call me ishmael paradiselost(2), -- aComment 1984(3), -- aComment solaris(4) -- aComment } MAX-ACCESS read-only STATUS current DESCRIPTION "A few Books for an example." ::= { invMasterList 43 } According to Mibble's API, the OBJECT-TYPE can be accessed by extracting an SnmpObjectType and then calling the appropriate getter method. Which I have done, and can successfully extract all of the text except the comments in the INTEGER syntax. I have tried calling getSyntax().getComment() on the SnmpObjectType, but always returns null. getSyntax() will extract the INTEGER syntax, e.g.: mobydick(1),paradiselist(2),1984(3),solaris(4) but unfortunately strips out the comments. Any one out there have experience with Mibble Parser who knows how to extract the comments? Many Thanks.

• "Filtering" Cells in a UITableView. Multiple Views? Subviews?

  (First question related to iPhone development, so apologies for sounding off-track.) I'm creating a view that has a few things; a UITabBarController controlling 3 UITableViews. Two of these TableViews are filtered versions of the 3rd. All of them will be making a JSON call (still working on that) to retrieve a list of objects. So, because these views are related in some way, would there be a more "sane" way to display this data? With say, subviews? Or would I have to just create 1 view for each that returns the desired data and be done with it? If it helps at all, I have full control over the API I'm talking with, so changes to that that help with this don't really matter to me too much. Thanks in advance!

  So, I am learning Javascript while playing white Google Calendar APIs and I just can't figure how this piece of code is working this way: var entriesResult = []; var data = new Date(2010,3,22,17,0,0); var callback = function(result) { var entries = result.feed.getEntries(); if (entries.length != 0) { entriesResult = eventsManager(entries, 0, data); window.alert("inner entriesResult " + entriesResult.length); } } this.service.getEventsFeed(this.query, callback, handleGDError); window.alert("outer entriesResult " + entriesResult.length); eventsManager() is a function that returns an array of Objects. getEventsFeed() it's an API function: it queries the service and pass a "feed root" (a feed with selected items) to the callback function. Why the first alert (inner..) outputs a valid entriesResult.length while the second one (outer..) always outputs a 0? I tought javascript arrays are always passed by reference, what's wrong whit my code? Thank you :)

  I am trying to figure out just how "efficient" my server-side code is. Using start and end microtime(true) values, I am able to calculate the time it took my script to run. I am getting times from .3 - .5 seconds. These scripts do a number of database queries to return different values to the user. What is considered an efficient execution time for PHP scripts that will be run online for a website? Note: I know it depends on exactly what is being done, but just consider this a standard script that reads from a database and returns values to the user. Also, I look at Google and see them search the internet in .15 seconds and I feel like my script is crap. Thanks.

  I have a data structures homework, that in addition to the regular AVL tree functions, I have to add a function that returns the minimum gap between any two numbers in the AVL tree (the nodes in the AVL actually represent numbers.) Lets say we have the numbers (as nodes) 1 5 12 20 23 21 in the AVL tree, the function should return the minimum gap between any two numbers. In this situation it should return "1" which is |20-21| or |21-20|. It should be done in O(1). Tried to think alot about it, and I know there is a trick but just couldn't find it, I have spent hours on this. There was another task which is to find the maximum gap, which is easy, it is the difference between the minimal and maximal number.

  I have been experimenting with TMask in Delphi 2010 and it seems to work as expected except in one situation: when the mask name contains [ or ] the mask always seem to return false. For example: var MaskObj : TMask; begin MaskObj:= TMask.Create('c:\[test]\*'); try Result:= MaskObj.Matches('c:\[test]\text'); finally FreeAndNil(MaskObj); end; end; returns false. ... Yes, [ and ] are legal characters in file name. So if I want to exclude for example all files in c:[test]*, what could I do here? • Where are config files for class libraries physically located?

  My guess is that this question will fall under the category of "duh", but, nevertheless, I'm confused. When using config files in, for example, a Windows Forms Application, the config file can be found in C:\Program files\CompanyName\ProductName\Application.exe.config. However, with the class library I'm developing I do not see a "ClassLibrary.dll.config" file in the install folder after installing it (in tandem with another project) from Visual Studio. Even though I do not see the file anywhere, retrieving data from it works correctly. Plus, running the following code from a method within the class library returns the path you would expect: C:\Program files\CompanyName\ProductName\ClassLibrary.dll.config. • Incomplete results with Turkish characters in Indexing Service

  Finally I get to post my i's and I's as promised... I've found that MS Indexing Service returns incomplete results when searching for documents with Turkish content. It seems to choke especially regarding the (incorrectly-named) 4I problem. Apparently, MS has fixed this problem with a Windows 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325333 service pack, but the bug seems to be resurrected with Windows XP & 2003. Anybody uses Indexing Service in their line of work? Similar problems with other non-English locales? Any solutions?

• Python (windows) will open files from command line, but not from a script launched from eclipse

  I'm pretty new to writing python for windows (linux is no problem), and am having problems getting python to recognize files when running scripts, though it behaves fine in the command line What am I doing wrong here? def verifyFile(x): # return os.path.isfile(x) This will return true (with a valid file, of course) when called from the python command line, but when I run the script from eclipse, or launch it from windows, it ALWAYS returns false. Any thoughts on why this is? I've tried passing pathnames like this: D:\Documents and Settings\BDE\Desktop\cdburn.jpg and like this: D:/Documents and Settings/BDE/Desktop/cdburn.jpg I've changed sys,argv[0] to '' I've tried this: def verifyFile(x): # try: f = open(x, 'r') f.close() return True except: return False and am getting no love!   Wordpress provides a function called "the_permalink()" that returns, you guessed it!, the permalink to a given post while in a loop of posts.   What mercurial command can you use to see the changeset prior to changeset xyz? If you do hg log -r :xyz you see all the changesets prior to (and including) xyz - listed in ascending order. But I'd like to easily see just the prior changeset. Update: Really what I'm after is: If I do an hg fetch, what command can I use to see the changeset PRIOR to the the changesets that were pulled in by the fetch? hg log -r :xyz where xyz is the first changeset pulled in by the fetch works but it returns the entire list of prior changesets where I just want the most recent.

  I'm having trouble with the MyClass::function(); style of calling methods and can't figure out why. Here's an example (I'm using Kohana framework btw): class Test_Core { public $var1 = "lots of testing"; public function output() { $print_out = $this->var1; echo $print_out; } } I try to use the following to call it, but it returns $var1 as undefined: Test::output() However, this works fine: $test = new Test(); $test->output(); I generally use this style of calling objects as opposed to the "new Class" style, but I can't figure out why it doesn't want to work.

  Its great when you can return a null/empty object in most cases to avoid nulls, but what about Collection like objects? In Java, Map returns null if key in get(key) is not found in the map. The best way I can think of to avoid nulls in this situation is to return an Entry<T> object, which is either the EmptyEntry<T>, or contains the value T. Sure we avoid the null, but now you can have a class cast exception if you don't check if its an EmptyEntry<T>. Is there a better way to avoid nulls in Map's get(K)? And for argument sake, let's say this language don't even have null, so don't say just use nulls.

  Every night when I leave work, I lock the screen via ubuntu's "power" button in the top right hand panel. When I come to work in the morning, I'm greeted with the log-in screen. Is there any way to compress that block of code to something smaller?

  I'm trying to use ServletContext.getResource to retrieve a java.net.url reference to an image file (which I will then include in a PDF library using iText). When I use ServletContext.getRealPath("picture.jpg"), I get back a string URL. However, getResource always returns null. Example 1: String picture = ServletContext.getRealPath("picture.jpg"); // picture contains a non-null String with the correct path URL pictureURL = ServletContext.getResource(picture); // pictureURL is always null Example 2: URL pictureURL = ServletContext.getResource("picture.jpg"); // pictureURL is always null So what is the correct way to build a java.net.URL object pointing to a file in my webapps folder? Why does getRealPath work but not getResource? In case it helps at all, here is my folder structure webapps - mySite - picture.jpg Does my picture need to be stored in either WEB-INF or WEB-INF/classes to be read by getResource?

• OpenMP timer doesn't work on inline assembly code?

  I'm trying to compare some code samples for speed, and I decided to use the OpenMP timer since I'll eventually be multi threading the code. The timer works great on two of my four code snippets, but not on the other two start=omp_get_wtime(); /*code here*/ finish = omp_get_wtime() - start_time; The four code here sections are serial code, xmmintrin.h code, and two inline assembly codes. The serial and xmminstrin.h code are able to be timed, but the inline assembly codes returns -1.#IND00 for a time. I can't seem to figure out why this is? Thanks for any help or suggestions!

  I have a custom class extending NSObject. I am maintaining NSMutableArray of this class objects. Here is the situation, customObject { NSString *name; int ID; .....and many other properties; } customObjectsArray { customObject1, customObject2, ...etc } Now I am trying to use filterUsingPredicate to remove objects that has nil names, like below but it returns very few or none objects while I know that there are hundreds of objects that has name not nil or empty. Could someone please tell me what could be wrong here. [customObjectsArray filterUsingPredicate:[NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"name != nil]];
