• Migrate SVN repository from Google code to another repository server (keeping history)

  I read some question/answers here about how to do it using svnadmin/dump etc. Actually I did not understand properly what I'm supposed to do. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/939963/how-to-migrate-svn-to-another-repository I think I have to do some sort of dump from the Google code repository using svnadmin, but where do I get this svnadmin? I use TortoiseSVN 1.6.3 on WXP and there is no svnadmin.exe command in all my C folder, where am I supposed to download these applications? Thanks!

I am a fairly competent programmer and can turn my skills to a new language fairly quickly... what my question is, is... • What is the big deal with SSL?

  What is the big deal with SSL? My interenet website hosting provider has sold me an SSL line. All I know is that for what I want to do with PayPal, I need to have a folder that is denoted beginning with https:// and this is what an SSL line is. But it seems that they have a hard time setting it up. I wonder if I can just go ahead and do it for myself. I mean, some third party has send me confirmation and even what seems to be some sort of long numeric certificate.

• "Disabling" an HTML table with javascript

  I've seen this done in a lot of sites recently, but can't seem to track one down. Essentially I want to "disable" an entire panel (that's in the form on an HTML table) when a button is clicked. By disable I mean I don't want the form elements within the table to be usable and I want the table to sort of fade out. I've been able to accomplish this by putting a "veil" over the table with an absolutely positioned div that has a white background with a low opacity (so you can see the table behind it, but can't click anything because the div is in front of it). This also adds the faded effect that I want. However, when I set the height of the veil to 100% it only goes to the size of my screen (not including the scrolling), so if a user scrolls up or down, they see the edge of the veil and that's not pretty. I'm assuming this is typically done in a different fashion. Does anyone have some suggestions as a better way to accomplish this?

• LINQ Quicksort is Unstable Except When Cascading

  On page 64 of "LINQ To Objects Using C# 4.0" (Tony Magennis) he states that LINQ's quicksort ordering algorithm is unstable... ...although this is simply solved by cascading the result into a ThenBy or ThenByDescending operator. Huh? Why would cascading an unstable sortation into another sortation fix the result? In fact, I'd say that isn't possible. The original order, once passed through an unstable sort, is simply lost. What am I missing here?

• Excluding files from being deployed with Capistrano while still under version control with Git

  I want to start testing the JavaScript in my Rails apps with qUnit and I'm wondering how to keep the test JavaScript and test runner HTML page under version control (I'm using Git, of course) but keep them off the production server when I deploy the app with Capistrano. My first thought is to let Capistrano send all the code over as usual including the test files, and write a task to delete them at the end of the deployment process. This seems like sort of a hack, though. Is there a cleaner way to tell Capistrano to ignore certain parts of the repository when deploying?

• Jquery Table sorter and special characters

  Hi there, am using jquery tablesorter plugin and in my "country" column i got special characters like this: Índia. The fact is that when i hit the header of the column to sort it, it puts my "Índia" at the end of the column. I guess the nav sees the Í instead of the real "I" with an accent. Any clue on how to make it work even with accents ? • GEdit/Python execution plugin?

  Hi I'm just starting out learning python with GEdit plus various plugins as my IDE. Visual Studio/F# has a feature which permits the highlighting on a piece of text in the code window which then, on a keypress, gets executed in the F# console. Is there a similar facility/plugin which would enable this sort of behaviour for GEdit/Python? I do have various execution type plugins (Run In Python,Better Python Console) but they don't give me this particular behaviour - or at least I'm not sure how to configure them to give me this. I find it useful because in learning python, I have some test code I want to execute particular individual lines or small segments of code (rather then a complete file) to try and understand what they are doing (and the copy/paste can get a bit tiresome) ... or perhaps there is a better way to do code exploration? • Any way to trigger interface orientation check?

  My app is going from a flipside view (only one orientation) to its main view (can have any sort of orientation. When I go from flipside back to main view, the main view's orientation is not checked and changed immediately. I need a way to trigger the built in orientation check that happens in willRotateToInterfaceOrientation so that the orientation is correct when the user goes from flipside view to main view. Any help is appreciated. I saw another question about this but didn't see a definitive answer. Thanks!

• Why use Oracle Application Express for web app?

  Hi all. I believe we're moving to Oracle Apex for future development. I've read about Oracle Apex on wikipedia and it's pro and con. It seem to me the con outweigh the pro but maybe I'm wrong. I get the sense that Oracle Apex is for DBA with little or no programing knowledge to setup a web app quickly sort like MS Access for none programmer. If you have Oracle Apex working experience, can you share your though? From wikipedia's entry, it doesn't seem like you need to know any programming language at all but just the PL/SQL? edit: Is Oracle Apex scalable? Can it handle traffic like Facebook's size? Thank. • Safety of Amazon Community AMIs

  Hi, I am working for a scientific project and would like to use the Amazon EC2 to host the same. Now, I was going through the existing AMIs to create my own, but I found one AMI in the community list of AMIs - which fits perfectly. My question is the following - are the community AMIs safe? Is it possible for a malicious user to create an AMI in such a way that say the usernames/passwords etc can be sent to a remote server or something? Does Amazon do any sort of checking to make sure it cannot happen? I couldnt find the answers to these in Amazon site. I am pretty sure that you guys would have felt the same issues - could you please provide your answers? Regards K

• UITableView and keyboard scrolling problem

  after a lot of trial and error, I'm giving up and asking the question. I've seen a lot of people with similar problems but can't get all the answers to work right. I have a UITableView which is composed of custom cells. The cells are made of 5 text fields next to each other (sort of like a grid). When I try to scroll and edit the cells at the bottom of the UITableView, I can't manage to get my cells properly positioned above the keyboard. I have seen many answers talking about changing view sizes,etc... but none of them has worked nicely so far. Could anybody clarify the "right" way to do this with a concrete code example? • C#, WinForms: Which view type for periodically updated list?

  I'm having an application, that periodically polls a web service (about every 10 seconds). In my application logic I'm having a List<Message> holding the messages. All messages have an id, and might be received out of order. Therefore the class implements the Comparable Interface. What WinForm control would fit to be regurarly updated (with the items in order). I plan to hold the last 500 messages. Should I sort the list and then update the whole form? Or is data binding approriate (concerning performance)?

• removing duplicate strings from a massive array in java efficiently?

  I'm considering the best possible way to remove duplicates from an (Unsorted) array of strings - the array contains millions or tens of millions of stringz..The array is already prepopulated so the optimization goal is only on removing dups and not preventing dups from initially populating!! I was thinking along the lines of doing a sort and then binary search to get a log(n) search instead of n (linear) search. This would give me nlogn + n searches which althout is better than an unsorted (n^2) search = but this still seems slow. (Was also considering along the lines of hashing but not sure about the throughput) Please help! Looking for an efficient solution that addresses both speed and memory since there are millions of strings involved without using Collections API!

• Utilise Surv object in ggplot or lattice

  Anyone know how to take advantage of ggplot or lattice in doing survival analysis? It would be nice to do trellis/facet like survival graphs. So in the end I played around and sort of found a solution for a kaplan meier plot. Apologize for the messy code in taking the list elements into a dataframe, but I couldnt figure out another way. Note: It only works with two levels of stratum. • Is it possible to use IPC inside of a IE8 Browser Helper Object?

  I need to communicate with a Service using IPC from inside of a Browser Helper Object (registered with IE8). Unfortunately, all of this communication is done through an Assembly API that I have no control over. Whenever this API starts up I get the following error: ExceptionSystem.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified. I realize that it is difficult to discern what the issue is without source. However I am curious if anyone knows of anything sort of permissions or DLL issues that would prevent IPC from working in this case.

• Continuous Integration with Oracle Products

  Hi, I'm currently working on a Datawarehouse project using an Oracle Database, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Warehouse Builder and some Jython thrown in for good measure. All of which is held within TFS. My background is .net and prior to this project was seeing a lot of promise in CI. I'm not suggesting that the testing element of CI is feasible in this instance, but I would like to implement a stable deployment strategy. What I'm trying to understand is whether or not I can build some NANT scripts that will allow me to deploy ODI\OWB\Oracle DB code to any given environment at any point. Has anyone tried this before? Are there more appropriate tools out there that lends themselves better to this sort of toolset? Am I just a crazy horse to be evening contemplating this? Any view would be greatly appreciated. • JSON to Persistent Data Store (CoreData, etc.)

  All of the data on my application is pulled through an API via JSON. The nature of a good percentage of this data is that it doesn't change very often. So to go and make JSON requests to get a list of data that doesn't change much didn't seem all that appealing. I'm looking for the most sensible option to have this JSON saved onto the iPhone in some sort of persistent data store. Obviously one plus of persisting the data would be to provide it when the phone can't access the API. I've looked at a few examples of having JSON and CoreData interact, for example, but it seems that they only describe transforming NSManagedObjects into JSON. If I can transform JSON into CoreData, my only problem would be being able to change that data when the data from the API does change. (Or, maybe this is all just silly.)

• how do arguments work with dojo.connect?

  I've read the docs, but I must be missing something. I've got a grid, I want to connect to the event that fires when the column headers are clicked for sorting, thus: dojo.addOnLoad(function(){ var grid = dijit.byId("grid"); dojo.connect(grid, "setSortInfo", 'afterSort'); }); function afterSort() { console.info('after sort'); } That works fine as far as it goes. I know the setSortInfo method has an argument which is the column number. How do I get that value? I've tried putting a parameter in the sig for afterSort to no avail. The docs say "the method receives the same arguments as the event", but where are they???

  Hey guys, I have 3 tables with a column in each which relates to one ID per row. I am looking for an sql statement query which will check all 3 tables for any rows in the last 24 hours (86400 seconds) i have stored timestamps in each tables under column time. After I get this query I will be able to do the next step which is to then check to see how many of the ID's a reoccurring so I can then sort by most popular in the array and limit it to the top 5... • Computationally simple Pseudo-Gaussian Distribution with varying mean and standard deviation?

  This picture from wikipedia has a nice example of the sort of functions I'd ideally like to generate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Normal_Distribution_PDF.svg Right now I'm using the Irwin-Hall Distribution, which is more or less a Polynomial approximation of the Gaussian distribution...basically, you use uniform random number generator and iterate it x times, and take the average. The more iterations, the more like a Gaussian Distribution it is. It's pretty nice; however I'd like to be able to have one where I can vary the mean. For example, let's say I wanted a number between the range 0 and 10, but around 7. Like, the mean (if I repeated this function multiple times) would turn out to be 7, but the actual range is 0-10. Is there one I should look up, or should I work on doing some fancy maths with standard Gaussian Distributions?

What I am noticing is that the things that are supposed to happen in the ItemDataBound event happen after the Page_Load of the page hosting the control. Is there a way to use some sort of ItemDataBoundComplete trigger so I can do other things on my page after the events of the ItemDataBound have taken place? • Access variables from a number of sources

  I'm creating my first game, and I've currently set up a 'GameState' class, to store player health etc. inside. This class is currently instantiated from the AppDelegate as I need to access it from all over my game. This is fine. For each class I'm working in, I can access the app delegate, and then find the GameState object... however, it seems very messy. I'm tempted to find a way (I'm still a newbie) to define the GameState instance as being some sort of global variable so that I can access it from all over with ease... but my little bit of reading on variable scope makes me uneasy about doing this, even if I knew how. Any ideas of the best way to define and access this class? It'll be used for everything from player health, to items they've found, any personalisation etc. Thanks!
