  I have a bilingual site in Drupal. The problem is that I hate the language switch block taking up so much space (sometimes the only thing in the sidebar is the language switch block). So what I would love to have is language switch menu item, that would point to the other language (other then the current one). • Circular class dependency

  Is it bad design to have 2 classes which need each other? I'm writing a small game in which I have a GameEngine class which has got a few GameState objects. To access several rendering methods, these GameState objects also need to know the GameEngine class - so it's a circular dependency. Would you call this bad design? I am just asking, because I am not quite sure and at this time I am still able to refactor these things.

• Upgrading a live 8.04 LTS server to More uptodate version

  Running Apache, MySQL, PHP with Moodle 1.9.9 running as a school based CMS. All possible updates for 8.04 have been applied. Moodle 2.x from Versions 2.1 onwards needs Php version 5.3.2 which is included in more recent distribution version. Would I be better (safer) upgrading php & mysql or upgrading Ubuntu to a more recent version? - if upgrading Ubuntu is better, are there any caveats i should know before attempting this. I will be taking a Copy of the entire server before doing any upgrading. Hoping to run on a test version also. Bit green on Linux hence lack of confidence.

• Website Remodel Redirects

  We've recently built a site for a new client who has not inserted all the content that they had from their old site into their new one. Also a lot of content is dynamic with ID's not matching from the old site to the new one. We have added dynamic redirects for most of the patterns we could find in pages that were 404ing, but there are still a lot of pages that had content, or just jumbled urls that we cannot match up with content pages on the new site. Is it better to redirect these leftover pages to the homepage? Or leave them 404ing?

  i have a website with thousands of dynamic pages. I want to use the robots.txt file in order to dissalow certain url patterns corresponding to pages with duplicate content. For example i have a page for article itemA belonging to category catA/subcatA, with URL: /catA/subcatA/itemA this is the URL that i want to be indexed from google. this article is also visible via tagging in various other places in the web site. The URLs produced via tagging is like: /tagA1/itemA this URL i want NOT to be indexed from google. However i want to have indexed all tag listings: /tagA1 so how can i achieve this? dissalow URLs of including a specific string with a '/' at the end? /tagA1/ itemA - dissalow /tagA1 - allow

• How to incoporate Taiwan into ISO 3166-1?

  I received a rather heartfelt e-mail from a user on our site explaining that Taiwan wasn't a province of China and that they wouldn't register until this was changed. Our site is made from a dozen or so valued contributors so we are going to change it. See issue here: http://www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/iso_3166-faqs/iso_3166_faqs_specific.htm. I found the lines to edit in my CMS, but we have valued users from both China and Taiwan. I was wondering the most politically neutral way to amend my country codes. What should the entries for China and Taiwan say?

I think about this : I want to load texture (in pseudocode): Texture t = resMgr.GetTex("image.png"); and GetTex make something like this: load texture from disk to main memory create texture object (load it to gpu memory) unload texture from main memory I consider about 3 step, does game engines that you know unload meshes/textures after load them into gpu memory ?

  I have always kept an eye out for event systems when writing code in scripting languages. Web applications have a history of allowing the user to add plugins and modules whenever needed. In most PHP systems you have a global/singleton event object which all interested parties tie into and wait to be alerted to changes. Event::on('event_name', $callback); Recently more patterns like the observer have been used for things like jQuery. $(el).on('event', callback); Even PHP now has built in classes for it. class Blog extends SplSubject { public function save() { $this->notify(); } } Anyway, the Promises/A proposal has caught my eye. It is designed for asynchronous systems, but I'm wondering if it is also a good design to implement now that even synchronous languages like PHP are changing. Combining Dependency Injection with Promises/A seems it might be the best combination for handling events currently.

• Why would you use data structures (ie Binary Trees, Linked Lists) in your jobs/side projects? [closed]

  It seems to me that, for everyday use, more primitive data structures like arrays get the job done just as well as a binary tree would. My question is how common is to use these structures when writing code for projects at work or projects that you pursue in your free time? I understand the better insertion time/deletion time/sorting time for certain structures but would that really matter that much if you were working with a relatively small amount of data?

Summary Advisor then generates an aggregate creation script that can be run to create the recommended aggregate tables. Aggregate tables reduce query times by storing precomputed results for queries that include rolled-up data. This tutorial covers steps to set up, configure, and run Summary Advisor on an Exalytics machine using TimesTen database as a target for storing aggregates.   I am using WPF, Prism and Unity to develop the user interface for a .net application. The UI will run from a PC, but I also need to develop a separate complex server component that will provide services to the PC component via WCF. Prism and Unity have proved to be of great value in creating a modular application, at least as far as the user interface is concerned. I would also like to make the server component modular, but I cannot find anywhere what techniques, patterns and technologies are suitable. I have considered: Unity or one of the other DI containers Selected parts of Prism, such as modules and events Are these suitable for developing a modular server component? Or are these UI technologies only and should I be looking at something completely different?

• Using git (or any version control) regarding migration from one language to another [on hold]

  I'm polishing an old project that i released some years ago, and the main purpose on that, is to arrange some folder structures and port the entire code from actionscript to haxe. All the game features, assets and design will remain the same. I have some doubts regarding versioning the project in this circumstance. Assuming that the only thing that will be drastically changed is the code migration, is it correct maintaining the new project changes on the same repository ? I was thinking in tagging it something like V1.1 or Branch the entire project. But i'm afraid that i'm gonna deviate from the versioning patterns.
