    I'm familiar with how type affinity works in SQLite: You can declare column types as anything you want, and all that matters is whether the type name contains "INT", "CHAR", "FLOA", etc. But is there a commonly-used convention on what type names to use? For example, if you have an integer column, is it better to distinguish between TINYINT, SMALLINT, MEDIUMINT, and BIGINT, or just declare everything as INTEGER? So far, I've been using the following: INTEGER REAL CHAR(n) -- for strings with a known fixed with VARCHAR(n) -- for strings with a known maximum width TEXT -- for all other strings BLOB BOOLEAN DATE -- string in "YYYY-MM-DD" format TIME -- string in "HH:MM:SS" format TIMESTAMP -- string in "YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS" format (Note that the last three are contrary to the type affinity.)

    Hi, I am wondering how I could create a custom data type to use within the rake migration file. Example: if you would be creating a model, inside the migration file you can add columns. It could look like this: def self.up create_table :products do |t| t.column :name, :string t.timestamps end end I would like to know how to create something like this: t.column :name, :my_custom_data_type The reason for this to create for example a "currency" type, which is nothing more than a decimal with a precision of 8 and a scale of 2. Since I use only MySQL, the solution for this database is sufficient enough. Thank you for your feedback and comments!

    i have a sharepoint list called project . this list has column called hours worked. Then i also have a list called tasks. this list also has a column called hours worked. the task list also has a lookup field where we select project ID from project list. Thus for each project we can have many tasks. now tasks list items are created by individual users and i have to create such a mechanism that the hours worked in project list must always be the sum of hours worked in tasks of that project. How can I achieve this.

If I've got 2 tables that are joined in a 3rd table with a many-to-many relationship, is it possible to write an ICriteria with expressions in one of the tables and the join table? Lets say the mapping file looks something like: <bag name ="Bag" table="JoinTable" cascade ="none"> <key column="Data_ID"/> <many-to-many class="Data2" column="Data2_ID"/> </bag> Is it then possible to write an ICriteria like the following? ICriteria crit = session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Data)); crit.Add(Expression.Eq("Name", name)); crit.Add(Expression.Between("Date", startDate, endDate)); crit.Add(Expression.Eq("Bag", data2IDNumber)); When I try this, it tells me I the expected type is IList, whereas the actual type is Bag.   • Android - making a layout like Entourage/Outlook calendar

    Hi, I'm trying to build a layout / view like the Entourage/Outlook calendar view, where when I schedule a time block, a new view will popup overlaying the time block. Something like this one except it's daily and not monthly like in the image http://images.appleinsider.com/office-2008-entourage-10.png What is the best way to implement that? Right now I'm using TableLayout to create the time on the 1st column and supposedly overlay to schedule made on the 2nd column. However, things got very messy especially when the minutes go to 15 minutes and there are overlapping schdule. Wonder if using other layout might work better? Thanks, Tee

Is there a way to get the list delegates to 'pop out' of their cells?     i have come across fluent api while studying DSLs. i have searched alot on FLUENT API..the basic conclusion which i could draw out was that fluent api uses method chaining in order to make the code fluent. but i cannot understand that in object oriented languages we can always create an object and can call the methods related to it. then how is FLUENT api different from it? what other features does fluent api add?

If you create this window in XAML, you can see that when you don't specify a width for the window, it wraps the text in a single column, one letter at a time. Is there something I'm missing?     I've been playing around with Entity Framework v2 and added some code to insert new entity with many to many relationship , lets say this entity is called meeting. I add hours to meeting : meeting.Hours.Add(hour); and I get different errors on different occasions On Update : Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Meetings_Id', table 'Plan.dbo.MeetingHour'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated. On Inset : An item with the same key has already been added. But the tricky party is that if I add this manually trough SQL Server Management Studio , I can update the entity with the same value , clearing it first (meeting.Hour.Clear()) Can't see what could be the problem , maybe entity model isn't mapped correctly ?

I am not sure about the exact name of these entites, "API oriented OTD", JBI, JCA.   • How will a search engine read data from my Ajax-based webapp?

    OK, not entirely related to programming, so I'm sorry. But I'd like to know about this: So I've got a webapp. There's one column where a list of results are fetched from the database. When you click one, jQuery fetches the information associated with that result and puts it into the second column - all without a refresh and using Ajax. Is it possible for Google to still read it etc.? I understand it can follow links... but presumably not Javascript actions etc.? If this is the case, what do other Ajax-heavy websites do about search engine optimisation? Jack

    Hello Again my fellow programmers out there, I'm designing and programming from scratch a online shop. It has a Module to manage "Orders" that are recieved via the frontend. I'm needing to have a status to know whats happening with an order in s certain moment, let's say the statuses are: Pending Payment Confirmed - Awaiting shipment Shipped Cancelled My question is a simple one, but is very important to decide on the store design, and is: What would you do so store this status: Would you create a column for it in the Orders table or would you just "calculate" the status of each order depending if payments has been recieved or shipments has been made for every order? (except I suppose for a is_cancelled column) What would be the best approach to model this kind of problem? PD: I even wish in the future to have these statuses configurable buy other clientes using the same software..

    I have seen posts all over the internet that talk about how to fix the TransientObjectExceptions during save/update/delete but I am having this problem when calling list on my Criteria. I have two objects A and B. A has a field named b which is of type B. In my mapping b is mapped as a many-to-one. This all runs in a larger persistence framework (the framework is kind of like Core Data) and so I don't use any cascades in my hibernate mappings since cascades are handled at a higher level. This is the interesting code surrounding my criteria: A a = new A(); B b = new B(); a.setB(b); session.save("B", b); // Actually handled by the higher level session.save("A", a); // framework, this is just for clarity // transaction committed and session closed ... // new session opened Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(A.class); criteria.add(Restrictions.eq("b", b)); List<?> objects = criteria.list(); Basically I am looking for all objects of type A such that A.b equals a particular instance of b (I actually tried restructuring a query so that I was passing in the id of b just to make sure that b wasn't causing me problems).   • How to compare sqlite TIMESTAMP values

    I have an Sqlite database in which I want to select rows of which the value in a TIMESTAMP column is before a certain date. I would think this to be simple but I can't get it done. I have tried this: SELECT * FROM logged_event WHERE logged_event.CREATED_AT < '2010-05-28 16:20:55' and various variations on it, like with the date functions. I've read http://sqlite.org/lang_datefunc.html and http://www.sqlite.org/datatypes.html and I would expect that the column would be a numeric type, and that the comparison would be done on the unix timestamp value. Apparantly not. Anyone who can help? If it matters, I'm trying this out in Sqlite Expert Personal.

I see two school of thoughts - Those who use oo concepts a lot and stress on more object oriented approach Those who rely heavily on algorithms and say a particular problem should take o(n) etc. I am not sure where to spend more time ? . Should I spend more time learning OO stuff or learn new stuff like jquery etc or learn travelling sales man algorithm etc ?
