  • Thousands of visits a day from untraceable traffic to website - Serious issue

    At the end of January we noticed a spike in traffic to what JetPack stats says was home/archive page and what Google was classifying as going to /gaming/ which is an archive list in WordPress. This started off as ~3,000 unique visitors and jumped up to 65,000 unique visitors in one day, again all to the "home" page. This happened over a course of a couple of weeks and we thought we were getting attacked. The traffic then dropped off for a few days but then came back but came back as only about ~15,000 uniques a day and has been like that every day since. We came to the conclusion that something wasn't tracking right somewhere and this is legitimate traffic and brushed it off. Now here comes the problem, Google AdSense has just disabled our account for "invalid clicks". We are trying to figure out where this traffic is coming from and stop it if it's not legitimate or figure out a way to track it correctly. Specs for the site: Dedicated server running CentOS 6 with nginx, php-fpm and MySQL. The site is built in WordPress and we use CloudFlare and W3 Total Cache. Analytics being used are Google Analytics, Quantcast, Alexa and Compete. Any kind of help would be awesome. UPDATE: I'm finding more people with the same type of problem and there doesn't seem to be a solution. http://netmeg.com/bot-attack/ http://stkywll.com/2012/03/02/annoying-cyborgs-attach-distort-analytics/ After looking at the access logs I noticed they were all CloudFlare IP's. I looked into that and found out CloudFlare acts as a proxy and there was a way to fix the logs in nginx. They are coming from many different ISP's in the US. They are going to /games/ or /gaming/ (/games/ redirects to /gaming/) and all seem to have the same user agent of Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/5.0).

    I have a problem that I have been trying to figure out and haven't been able to get past it because Chrome/FireFox/IE do not publicly publish their "rules" for pop up blocking when it comes to JavaScript, Flash, etc. I am trying to trigger a window.open() when a user clicks anywhere on page. I've tried this: document.onclick = window.open("http://msn.com"); But all 3 browsers are blocking the popup, even though it is a user interaction.

    Hello again. Im adding an image to my wordpress theme through dreamweaver cs4 and themedreamer. The image will go in the sidebar.php. When I inserted an image it doesnt shows in firefox and explorer. With safari, the image only shows an empty box with a question sign in the middle. Is there a special way to add image in a wordpress template?

    I'm trying to block requests from a certain bot. I've added a request filtering rule, but I know it is still hitting the site because it shows up in Google Analytics. Mozilla/5.0+(Windows+NT+6.1;+WOW64;+rv:13.0;+GomezAgent+3.0)+Gecko/20100101+Firefox/13.0.1 In some ways it seems to work. If I use Chrome to spoof my user agent, I get a 404, as expected. But the bot traffic is still showing up in my analytics. What am I missing?

  • getURL action script 2 and IE 7/8

    I have several flash movies that need to redirect to an external website at the end of the presentation. In any browser (firefox, opera, etc.), getURL("http://www.google.com"); works but in IE versions 7 and 8 it just hangs.   • Setting background-image with javascript

    In chrome, safari, and opera setting the background image to an absolute reference such as: "/images/image.png" changes it to "http://sitepath/images/image.png". It does not do this in firefox. Is there any way to avoid this behavior, or is it written into the browser's javascript engine? Using jquery to set the background-image also does this problem. The problem is that I am posting the HTML to a php script that needs the urls in this specific format. I know that setting the image path relative fixes this, but I can't do that. The only other alternative would be to use a regexp. to convert the urls. Thanks.     Hello everyone I have installed xampp 1.7.3. After starting apache and mysql service when I write http://localhost/ in the internet explorer address bar it shows 'The page cannot be displayed'. Maybe some on-the-fly convertion or something like that? The background: Firefox and Opera supports natively MathML when the code is embedded in a XHTML file.   • unwanted space before and after nested html table using Internet Explorer 8

    I have an html table nested in an html table cell. I want the nested table to use the full size of the cell it is nested in. When I use firefox or google chrome I get the result I want but when I use Internet Explorer 8 (even if I use td style="height="100%") the height of the nested cell depends on it's content. As a result I get whitespace before and after my nested table.
