• Creating a Large Matrix in ff

  I am trying to create a huge matrix in ff, and I know that ff is good for this sort of thing. But, there is a major problem. The dimensions of the matrix exceed .Machine$max_integer! I am running on a 64 bit machine, using 64bit R and 64bit ff. Is there any way to get around this problem? It's been suggested that R is using the MAXINT value from stdint.h. • c printing string syntax

  Hello guys, Just stuck on c syntax regarding strings. Say I have a string like (name[5]="peter";) in c say if I just wanted to print the last character of string or check the last character of the string, which in this case would be 'r' how can I do this? The way I was thinking does not seem to work name[5]="peter"; if(name[5]=="r") printf("last character of name is r"); Question: is there some sort of function to do this that can check one character of array, is a certain value, like name[5] is 'r' in string peter or likewise name[1] is 'n' Also how do I use printf to print that certain char, having problems using printf("last character of name is %s",name[5]) ??? • In search of a packaged .Net security solution for web-forms.

  We are looking for a security solution for asp.net that has security down to the control level. This is not a necessity but, it would be nice. At the very least it needs to extend-able to allow for control level permissions. The solution should have an administration panel of some sort. It also needs to support roles, groups, and individual permissions. We haven't seen anything like this in the marketplace -- we are in the process of rolling our own solution. We'd rather use an off the shelf solution.

  Im using Microsoft SQL Server which I think is T-SQL or ANSI SQL. I want to search a database with a string. The matches that fit the begging of the string should come first then sort alphabetically. I.e. If the table contains FOO, BAR and RAP a search for the string 'R' should yield: RAP BAR In that order. Here is my attempt: SELECT Name FROM MyTable WHERE (Name LIKE '%' + @name + '%') ORDER BY (IF(Name LIKE @name + '%',1,0)) The error message is: "must declare scalar variable @name"

• MS Chart Control for ASP.NET 100% Stacked Bar Chart Question.

  Hello All, I am trying to display a chart with several different bars that represent a ratio of some values. For example, one bar may say that there are 25 items in three different groups (maybe dirty, clean, and broken) and of those 25 items x items from each category add up to the total. Later the data will dynamically change and be displayed accordingly. But for now all I want to do is be able to display three different values on the same bar. Unfortunately, whatever properties I need to bind the data to are buried somewhere in the menus and I cannot seem to find them. Do any of you guys have experience with this sort of chart?

• Need a list of all countries in the world, with a longitude and latitude coordinate

  I need a list of all the countries in the world, with one lat/long coordinate for the country. I had a look at GeoNames, but all I can seem to find are lists that have the countries as well as cities in the same list. I guess I can just parse it and filter out the countries, but I was hoping to avoid that. Basically, what I need; Country name - Lat/long coordinate (some sort of center of the country) It doesn't need to say anything about continent, but I wouldn't mind if it did. _L

• Remove certain keys from a dictionary in python

  I'm trying to construct a dictionary that contains a series of sets: {Field1:{Value1, Value2, Value3}, Field2{Value4}} The trouble is, I then wish to delete any fields from the dictionary that only have one value in the set. I have been writing code like this: for field in FieldSet: if len(FieldSet[field]) == 1: del(FieldSet[field]) But receive the error "RuntimeError: dictionary changed size during execution". (Not surprising, since that's what I'm doing.) It's not the be-all and end-all if I have to knock together some sort of workaround, but is it possible to do this?

  We are building an ecommerce app where we want our users to pick out a (any provider we can make compatible with our app) payment provider. Up to today, we only support paypal and we have implemented this rather manually. We are looking for some sort of a module (free or commercial) to easily plugin in more payment providers to let customers accept payments through them. Our customers would use this to accept payments for sales in their web shops. Any ideas on such "modules"? I know of the Zend_Payment module but that's not updated anymore or isn't out yet at all. We run PHP in the Zend Framework if that matters.

• How to schedule emails to send out

  Using PHP, I have a query that goes through my DB looking for pending tasks with reminder triggers at certain times of the day. I have a cronjob that runs every 10 mins and checks the DB for any rows that has "remind_me" field set to go off within the next 10 mins. If it does find something, what's the best way to queue an email with the task information? I guess I'll need some sort of message queue system, but how does the email part work? Will I need another cronjob that runs every minute to check the queue system?

• Tool to Verify Site URLs/SiteMap?

  I'm moving a site from one e-commerce software to another, and I've created URL Rewriter rules to do 301 redirects from the Old URLs to the new ones. I've tested them with a small sample of URLs, but I'm looking for some sort of tool that will let me test as many of the URLs as possible. Does anyone know of a tool that I can feed a list of URLs (or a sitemap.xml). This tool will attempt to retrieve each URL, and then report the status code for each. The result should be a list of URLs with the status code, something like this: www.site.com/oldurlformat1/ 301 Permanently Moved www.site.com/newurlformat1/ 200 OK www.site.com/oldurlformat2/ 301 Permanently Moved www.site.com/newurlformat2/ 200 OK I can almost do this with wget, but getting the summary/report at the end is where I'm stuck.

• Translating external api results in Drupal

  We're building a multi-language Drupal stack and one of the concerns we have is that our payment processor is going to have to send back some information to us. We've been able to narrow this down so that the strings they're sending back look like <country code>-<number of months> so we can easily translate that into any number of languages, except English. t('FR-12') is all well and good if we want to translate that into a french description, but because there's not an English language a similar string like t('EN-12') is not translatable. Similarly for the generic string: #API_Connection_Error This sort of generic string approach seemed really compelling to me at first but it seems to not work in Drupal. Do you have any suggestions about how to translate generic strings like this into both English and other languages? Thank you, I've been looking through Google all morning.

  Is there a simple way to detect when a file for writing is closed? I have a process that kicks out a new file every 5 seconds. I can not change the code for that process. I am writing another process to analyze the contents of each file immediately when it is created. Is there a simple way to watch a certain directory to see when a file is no longer opened for writing? I'm hoping for some sort of Linux command.

  Hi, I have a web application that I'm working on(ASP.NET2.0 with C#)[Using VS2005]. Everything was working fine, and all of a sudden I get the error: Error 1 The name 'Label1' does not exist in the current context and 43 others of the sort for each time that I used a control in my codebehind of the page. This is only happening for 1 page. And it's as if the codebehind isn't recognizing the controls. Another interesting thing is that the intellisense isn't picking up any of the controls either.. I have tried to clean the solution file, delete the obj file, exclude the files from the project then re-add them, close VS and restart it, and even restart my computer, but none of these have worked. Please Help. Thank you

I have two large vectors, I am trying to do some sort of element multiplication, where an even-numbered element in the first vector is multiplied by the next odd-numbered element in the second vector .... and where the odd-numbered element in the first vector is multiplied by the preceding even-numbered element in the second vector Ex. vector 1 is V1(1) V1(2) V1(3) V1(4) vector 2 is V2(1) V2(2) V2(3) V2(4) V1(1) * V2(2) V1(3) * V2(4) V1(2) * V2(1) V1(4) * V2(3) I have written a Cuda code to do this: (Pds has the elements of the first vector in shared memory, Nds the second Vector) //instead of using %2 .. i check for the first bit to decide if number is odd/even -- faster if ((tx & 0x0001) == 0x0000) Nds[tx+1] = Pds[tx] * Nds[tx+1]; else Nds[tx-1] = Pds[tx] * Nds[tx-1]; __syncthreads(); Is there anyway to further accelerate this code or avoid divergence .. • Reset form with jQuery

  I have a form with a standard reset button coded thusly: <input type="reset" class="button standard" value="Clear" /> Trouble is, said form is of the multi-stage sort, so if a user fills out a stage & then returns later, the 'remembered' values for the various fields won't reset when the Clear button is clicked. I'm thinking that attaching a jQuery function to loop over all the fields and clear them 'manually' would do the trick. I'm already using jQuery within the form, but am only just getting up to speed & so am not sure how to go about this, other than individually referencing each field by ID, which doesn't seem very efficient. TIA for any help.

• Spring: Inject static member (System.in) via constructor

  I wrote some sort of console client for a simple application. To be more flexible, I thought it would be nice to only depend on java.io.Input-/OutputStream, instead of accessing System.in/out directly. I renamed the class ConsoleClient to StreamClient, added setters and made sure that the instance fields are used instead of System.in/out. At the moment my client code looks like this: ApplicationContext appCtx = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("..."); StreamClient cc = (StreamClient) appCtx.getBean("streamClient"); cc.setInputStream(System.in); cc.setOutputStream(System.out); cc.run(); // start client Question: Is there a way to move lines 3 and 4 into the Spring configuration (preferably constructor injection)? • Sorting Table Cells based on data from NSArray

  Hi, I have an NSArray which contains information from an RSS feed on dogs, such as [dog types], [dog age] and [dog size]. At the moment my UITableView simply displays each cell on each dog and within the cell lists [dog types], [dog age] and [dog size]. I want to be able to allow users of my app to "sort" this data based on the dog name, dog size or dog age when they press a UIButton in the top nav-bar. I'm struggling to work out how to filter the UITableView based on these factors, so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  Hello, I learnt Hadoop a few months back and managed to do a very introductory programming project on it. I want to do a small - medium sized project or series of small programming assignments with Hadoop. I have seen lot of ideas around but I dont see anything that can be finished in about 60-70 hours of work so a pretty small scale project as I want to do that in my spare time along with other studies. Most project ideas I have seen sort of large to go on for 2-3 months. My main objective out of this exercise to develop good expertise in programming with Hadoop environment not to do any research or solve specific problems. • What is the fastest way to compare two list of items?

  I have two folders with approximately 10,000 files each. I'd like to write a script or program that can tell me if these folders are in sync and then tell me what files are missing from each to make them in sync. Therefore, after generating a list of files, what is the fastest algorithm to sort them for unique files? What I'm thinking right now is comparing the first file on each list then if they are different remove one until they are the same, then remove both from the list (because they are not unique.) Is there a faster algorithm then this?

• Programmatically adding a trusted cert in Java

  I use SSL to communicate between two components written in Java. I can't use a CA, so I have to self-sign everything. Unfortunately, this means that when I try to handshake, I get a SunCertPathBuilderException. I can create my own X509TrustManager that just trusts everything, but that sort of defeats the purpose of having a signed cert. I would like, when first making the connection, to prompt the user with "SSL handshake with invalid cert. Add cert to store?" or something so they could have it added for them to their certificate store, like web browsers do at sites with invalid certs. I can find plenty of examples online of adding a cert to the store through the commandline, but I can't figure out how to do it programmatically. Is there a way to do this?

• SQL latest/top items in category

  What is a scalable way to select latest 10 items from each category. I have a schema list this: item category updated so I want to select 10 last update items from each category. The current solution I can come up with is to query for categories first and then issue some sort of union query: query = none for cat in categories: query += select top 10 from table where category=cat order by updated I am not sure how efficient this will be for bigger databases (1 million rows). If there is a way to do this in one go - that would be nice. Any help appreciated.

• Integrating a C project in the iPhone SDK

  Hello, This is my first time doing this sort of project so apologies if the question is silly. I've got a question about using a C project with a project in the iPhone SDK. I've dragged and dropped the C project into the iPhone project in Xcode (so it appears in the screenshot below). sjeng.h is a file inside GameEngine.xcodeproj, but when I try to include the header file, I not only receive an error, but the file it is looking for seems to be capitalized whereas the import statement is not. (I would post a screenshot but this is my first time doing something on stack overflow and I need more reputation points. • JSF hiding exceptions?

  I have a managed bean for a JSF page which is doing JPA calls in the constructor to populate fields in the bean. I'm having a bit of trouble with another call to persist an entity (to populate data for testing). I'm expecting it to throw some sort of exception since it's not working, but I'm not getting anything. Just of the heck of it I tried the following: Query newQuery = em.createQuery("Bad Syntax"); List newList = newQuery.getResultList(); I'd expect an IllegalArgumentException here since the query string is completely invalid, but the page still loads and I don't see any exceptions anywhere. Am I right in expecting this exception? If so, why am I not seeing it?

  In formal specifications based on abstract algebraic types and equational theory you use formulas of equational theory to specify theory. System which will satisfy those constraints is called in formal logic a model. Modeling is process of creating a model, which abstracts of some aspects, which are unnecessary details for a specific case. So concrete system has to adhere to created model in observed aspects. Programming is a process of creating a program which will have specific behaviour - will perform specific algorithms - and programming languages through different paradigms enable us to think in a certain specific way, which abstracts of some details, usually machine specific ones. So could we be doing all those things at the same time, because they are principially the same? Is declarative programming the nearest attempt to do that? Could we use some sort f programming languages which will be good for programming as well as for modeling and specification?
